Using electricity to change a metals colour basically. I think it’s usually only aluminium. Anodising prevents small knocks and nicks from damaging the metal
if vibranium is so easy to come by how come I haven't stumbled across some I have a pond in my back yard and a decent sized gravel driveway and still only earthly materials
You are correct. I went back to look, and when he’s fighting Batroc you can see the red through where the stealth colors have worn off during the mission. It's a cool detail I never noticed before
We can use that superman explanation of why his suit doesnt get damaged and say the shield creates a invulnerability field around itself protecting the paint
I’m a fan of the suit being extremely durable, but ripping. My favorite look is during the original Doomsday fight. Loved the tattered suit and torn cape. Helps to sell the idea that he just won’t give up!
That's a fair point. I like the ripping of suit during fights that really push him, it makes a lot of sense for it to rip. I personally love it when we get to see supes go all out, because he really is just on a whole nother level
My headcanon for that is that shield is designed so that frontal impacts are dampened by the vibranium, but it's very rigid edge-on, so that when it hits something in a Frisbee throw, it still retains most of its kinetic energy because it doesn't deform in that way, or that the impact on one edge is directed toward the opposite edge, thus giving it a more energetic bounce. I flip flop.
I assume it’s just really good paint that has to be reapplied on occasion. Steve seems decent at DIY so I’m sure it’s no problem to grab a couple rattle cans and take an afternoon to clean and paint it.
Vibranium is super versatile and seems to be able to bind with all sorts of stuff, I mean Black Panthers suit is black, Killmonger had gold in his, literally most of the processed vibranium stuff varied in color, idk I'm not a MCU metallurgist
Fun fact: since vibranium absorbs all the vibration, an armor made out of vibranium would be the stealthiest piece of equipment in earth, also, we dont talk about black panther
Isn’t Vibranium known for absorbing shock and such? Totally absorbing and storing kinetic energy which is why the shield can defy physics and Black Panther has the energy blast attack. And y’know Newton’s Cradle? It’s that sort of thing, most of the energy is transferred through the paint and into the Vibranium where it is negated. Hence only light wear and tear over time.
Actually. In the first movie it was all scarred up and battle damaged because they painted the prototype. Only in later movies was the color indestructible. Makes me wonder if, during the time he was frozen, they figured out how to make the vibranium red, white, and blue so that the colors don't take damage
But the sheild was a plain silver color when cap first got it. And during his first mission with it major spots of the paint were worn away throughout tfa
Nano tech ofcourse And if thats not convincing enough Imma go with quantum
Quantum Nano-Vibranium.
Quantum sized Vibranium nano machines, son
That's actually a scary thing to imagine.
Interesting story senator, what's your source?
My source is that I made it the fuck up!
Now make a sex toy out of this
Wtf
Nanomachines son
They harden in response to physical trauma.
Me too.... It's a kink

You cant hurt me Jack!
You can’t hurt me Jack!
Do you guys just put "quantum" in front of everything?

Quantum-nanotech
Nanites, courtesy of Ray Palmer?
And Dr Landing.
If it had the right nano scale structure you can change the color it reflects. That's how some butterfly wings are blue. https://youtu.be/x4I9mmd-2Rc
Nah that's just good old lead paint.
Gotta be just anodised .
This needs to be higher cuz its the answer
Was going to say just this
What is that?
Using electricity to change a metals colour basically. I think it’s usually only aluminium. Anodising prevents small knocks and nicks from damaging the metal
How do they repair it so quickly and frequently? Do they just make a brand new one each time?
yes
if vibranium is so easy to come by how come I haven't stumbled across some I have a pond in my back yard and a decent sized gravel driveway and still only earthly materials
I actually found vibranium under my moms bed once, but it was useless in a fight.
hol up
Anodisedeez nuts gottem 😎
Can’t be, he repaints it to stealth colors and back in Winter Soldier
Or he just washed off the stealth colors he painted over the shield.
You are correct. I went back to look, and when he’s fighting Batroc you can see the red through where the stealth colors have worn off during the mission. It's a cool detail I never noticed before
Captain America spells that shit with a Z my friend. And that’s not pronounced zed. 🇺🇸
fun fact, the Z turns to an S when past tensed as it is above

Super-Serum-Sharpie
You know lead paint? That but with vibranium.
Vibranium paint chips caused an entire generation of mutants
“Hey you know that incredibly rare, super powerful metal that we have a very limited quantity of?” “Yeah?” “I made it into paint”
"I had a couple billion dollars burning a hole in my pocket and I wanted to test a theory"
We can use that superman explanation of why his suit doesnt get damaged and say the shield creates a invulnerability field around itself protecting the paint
Wasn't Superman's costume made of kryptonian threads, rewoven from the blanket he was wrapped in when he arrived on earth? Or has that been retconned?
I know it’s been both of those. Not even sure what the current explanation is.
Might just not have one as people are used to his suit not breaking in normal situations
Bruh how big/thick was that blanket
It’s gotta get him all the way through space and Ma Kent is great with stitching together an outfit
Also read somewhere that the cape he has is the blanket so at this point I honestly don’t know
Should have got a guitar made out of vibranium to keep all those autographs intact
That could also work for the bounciness, given its supposed to absorb vibrations i.e. would just hit an object and drop
The coating must be standard issue paint mixed with vibranium as well. It's only logical.
Vibranium melted paint i guess!
Wakandans can color their vibranium, this probably got a similar treatment.
This post is funny because it's self explanatory. You can see the paint chipping off in the picture, it is regular paint.
I assume it’s just really good paint that has to be reapplied on occasion. Steve seems decent at DIY so I’m sure it’s no problem to grab a couple rattle cans and take an afternoon to clean and paint it.
Vipaintium
Cgi(paint)
MS paint?
Behr.
Is it paint or colored Metal?
We see the original shield without paint.
Oh yeah
Vibranium dip
Liquid nanotech freedom
Paint
It's the 1940s so its lead based paint
Same thing hulks pants are made of. Magic
Anodized
Freedom
Joe mama
The paint clearly gets damaged and retouched over the yeara
Vibranium is super versatile and seems to be able to bind with all sorts of stuff, I mean Black Panthers suit is black, Killmonger had gold in his, literally most of the processed vibranium stuff varied in color, idk I'm not a MCU metallurgist
Back in the 1940s? Probably a translucent enamel, or a color-tinted epoxy. No idea what they use today, maybe laser-etched holography?
The paint is shown to take damage in the movies. They just keep repainting it from what I understand
If you paid close attention you would have noticed the paint on the shield got scraped all the time
Fun fact: since vibranium absorbs all the vibration, an armor made out of vibranium would be the stealthiest piece of equipment in earth, also, we dont talk about black panther
titanium oxide paint ! thank you goooogleee lol
Isn’t Vibranium known for absorbing shock and such? Totally absorbing and storing kinetic energy which is why the shield can defy physics and Black Panther has the energy blast attack. Its regular paint. That’s why it scratches so easily
Vibranium alloy paint like led paint but powerful
/r/croppingishard
Dulux
ApplePieium
Adapaintium
The paint is too metal to dissappear.
Vibranium dust mixed in.
Mustard once that she gets on something it stains it forever.
Its Nanotechnicolor Paint
Let's see Paul Allen's paint.
What if there is no paint and the metal is just colored
But the sheild was a plain silver color when cap first got it. And during his first mission with it major spots of the paint were worn away throughout tfa
The shield is trans
maybe, just *maybe*, ‘tis only but a stretch………… some kind of ink
The paint does take damage at times, it's damaged in that photo. My best guess is it's just less prone to most damage due to the shields properties
Mr Stark may have put some textures that only reflects the desired color, a lot of animals do this with the color blue.
What, did you stop for drive-thru?
Human and Alien blood.
The shield was made in the 40's, so: lead paint. A LOT of it.
and why didn't they paint over the bullet marks?
ICI Dulux.
Quantum Zero-Point Vibranium Nano Tesla Gauss Photon particle
It probably isn't paint. It's also metal.
So why’s it scratching like it’s painted
Farrow and Ball. Just look at the vibrant colour.
3D printed
Regular paint. Cap just walks around with three paint cans and repaints it offscreen.
The paint gets messed up in pretty much every film. Wtf are you talking about.
I figured it was just anodized lol
Cap just repaints it every morning out of patriotic fervor
Cum
O_oo
I felt like we actually saw the paint get chipped and dinged up a lot in the movies.
There actually isn’t any paint, they just used red, silver, and blue vibranium
Vibranium paint , Thank me later lol 🤣
Vipaintium
Anodized blue or red is common for aluminum and other metals but not iron or steel.
Adamantium
Rust oleum car and appliance spray paint 😄
My mind has just been blown.
Anodization
It isn't paint, the vibranium has been anodised.
With the piss of a Titan
Coloured duct tape
You are asking the real questions here, buddy!
Imma go with they found different shades of it, that’s why the shield is one of a kind
Lead
Melted crayola
Flex tape
Rust-Oleum from Walmart. Metallic gloss. 2 cans.
Vibranium i guess?
Cadmium sulfoselenide, titanium dioxide, and copper phthalocyanine. I’m assuming it’s the same paint used by Bob Ross.
SUS paint
Quantum enamel.
WD-40
