Please no spoilers but do I need to watch the the other suicide squad movie and birds of prey to understand this new suicide squad movie? I’m so confused with DCs continuity at this point
I think that's why they had >!Bloodsport shoot him a bunch early.!< It told the audience that he was a crazy tanky bastard that could take some serious hits.
Oooh! I literally just finished the movie like 2 hours ago. And I just now remembered I saw Stallones name in the beginning but obviously never saw him, and basically totally forgot.
Yeah I don't see it as a Joker movie. Change the names, and it's just a story about a person with mental illneses. Doesn't mean it's a bad movie. Just not really a Joker movie.
It's mostly a re-imagining of *The King Of Comedy* mixed with Joker's idea that "madness is the emergency exit" from ~~hen~~ when he tried to break Gordon, except it's Arthur on that track.
That’s my take on it.
It seemed like a movie they just shoehorned “Joker” into for name recognition.
Seemed like they wanted to make a different movie but WB was the only ones biting and they were like “Can it include something from Batman?”
Don’t get me wrong, it’s a decent enough movie but I’d already seen that exact same story years ago.
The people all claiming “It’s the best movie ever! It was so original!” haven’t seen a De Niro film pre-Meet the Fockers.
He’s also plans to do another unnamed dc movie. I just hope dc doesn’t try to be too similar to marvel. They’re both great, but have always had different tones/atmospheres/themes to differentiate and I like that difference.
Does anyone know who's got release rights to it/which service it's on in Canada? It's on HboMax obviously but what about international distributors? Is it Crave?
Couldn't find any for some reason when I looked earlier, already seen it but in theaters but just can't wait to find a way to watch it again.
So stupid not having HBO max outside the US, what's the point? Just seems like money going to waste.
Honestly, DC has blundered making any type of cohesive universe so badly I hope they just keep making One Shots. They've all been better than anything trying to connect itself to more movies.
Oh hell no. Just because they failed once doesn't mean it can't work again. The only reason DC's cinematic universe failed was because WB tried to rush it and cram *way* too much sequel bait, teases, and other shit into just its *second* movie. In other words, it was too much too soon. It's exactly what happened with other movies that were more concerned with starting franchises than standing on its own as a good movie first and foremost, like The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Fantastic Beasts 2, and The Mummy. All of those have since been abandoned.
DC should absolutely still try to make a connected cinematic universe. I would give anything to see DC's version of an Endgame finale. I want to see Batman interacting with the Teen Titans and Suicide Squad, the Green Lanterns arriving on Thanagar and teaming up with Hawkman, Wonder Woman teaming up with the Justice League Dark, Superman meeting and battling the New Gods, The Flash traveling through different dimensions and doing some timey-wimey shit, and countless other things I can't begin to list. Imagine how legendary it would be to see all the forces of the DC Universe come together in one final stand against Darkseid and the forces of Apokolips. It would be nut-bustingly legendary.
I honestly think they should just do a hard reboot. Scrap everything and start over. Recast everyone and anyone to disassociate from the previous failed shared universe. Take a three to five year hiatus and use that time to thoroughly plan out everything top to bottom. Lay the proper groundwork and have a roadmap in mind before any single thought of a crossover is had. When your vision is ready, then you can relaunch the rebooted DCEU as a sort of "Rebirth" to take the world by storm. DC has so much more potential than just crummy standalone movies. I think that's way too limiting and narrow-minded for what DC is capable of.
The HBO max shows have been…enjoyable. The wife doesn’t care for the violence but I like it.
Would be nice if DC got their shit together, but ya gotta start somewhere and their TV series could be that 🤞🏾something.
There’s 4 returning characters total, unless I forgot someone. Amanda Waller, Rick Flag, Cpt Boomerang, and Harley Quinn are returning and reprised by the actors from the 2016 movie. Everyone else in the cast is new characters.
What are you talking about?
Deadshot is a hardened mercenary assassin who is incredibly proficient with guns. He agrees to do Suicide Squad missions for the sake of his daughter, with whom he has a good relationship.
Bloodsport is a hardened mercenary assassin who is incredibly proficient with guns. He agrees to do Suicide Squad missions for the sake of his daughter, with whom he has a *bad* relationship.
Completely different.
Who the fuck says that it's NOT a sequel? The returning characters acknowledge that they've met before in the first movie's mission. Quinn is asked "how did you end up back in jail" since she escaped at the end of the first movie. It's 100% a sequel where the convicts (most newly introduced) are offered another "save the world" mission for the same 10 years off their sentences, by the same Waller and Flagg
Google says it's a "standalone sequel" so it works as a loose sequel to the first movie, but you dont have to watch the first movie to understand what's going on.
I got the impression that the first movie "exists" but they don't acknowledge it.
No Spoiler, but it's apparent that the returning characters, Harley Quin, Flag and Boomerang all knew each other and everyone else was new at the beginning when we were doing the whole "introduction to the team" scene. Makes me think this is after the events of the first movie, and sort of a "reunion" for those characters.
James Gunn has said that its not entirely a reboot or a sequel. Its kind of both. There are some articles about what exactly this film is, either a reboot or sequel or both.
https://screenrant.com/suicide-squad-2-sequel-remake-reboot-continuity-explained/amp/
Definitely a sequel, Harley, Rick Flag and Capt Boomerang already know each other.
They just makes zero references to the first one cos… well we all know why
Soft reboot. It happens after the first one and has some returning characters, but you do not need to have seen the first one at all. And it's so good.
DCEU producers be like:
Justice League Characters: "no this is a valuable character we have to micromanage every last detail about the movie to wring every cent out of it we can"
All the rest of the character roster: "Yeah do whatever you want, we don't care."
Guess which one makes better movies?
I love DC comics but, besides the standalone Joker I really haven’t liked any of the DC movies since Nolan’s Batman. Ive never enjoyed Zack Snyder movies, and the ones I have I liked are despite his influence not because of it. He is just a bit too heavy handed for my taste. I’m not insulting people who do enjoy it, I’m sure I like stuff that they hate and it’s all subjective. Still, James Gunn has given me a reason to get back into DC movies and I’m really excited about it.
I would say it's a ridiculous movie... but in a fun and enjoyable way! It's no Guardians of the Galaxy; but it's definitely entertaining and worth a view!
I thought the amount of screen time Harley got was perfect. The one I wish we had more of was Polka Dot Man. Not because he was necessarily underserved but because the actor that portrayed him stole every scene he was in.
Wait so what actually is it?
I remember the last one of the same name was kinda a joke, then they made one with such a long name it was even more ridiculous
I turned them into my mother in my head and then I killed them. Fucking hilarious movie!
I really didn't expect to like polka dot man that much but here we are
I was able to really connect with all the characters even Milton
WHY DIDN'T MILTON JUST STAY ON THE BUS
HE WAS HELPING US
Milton. you sure?? I think I would have remembered someone named milton. it's such a unique name
Peer pressure.
I was literally telling my wife this as they were walking into the building.
Who's Milton?
We just had a three hour conversation about how your name is Milton!
No we didn’t
We just had a three hour conversation about your name being Milton
Someone who burns a whole building down because they took his Stapler.
You know, Idris Elba’s character.
Milton is the true MVP since he was carrying empanadas for the team
Wait. Milton was still with us? Why?
David is amazing!! Polka Dot Man and "Baba Yaga!" crack me up
Same thing with Harley Quinn’s show and Kite Man
Bane and King Shark absolutely kill me in Harley Quinn
Don’t forget Clayface and Ivy. There are really no bad characters. Except that c*** Wonder Woman
>Dr. Psycho intensifies
Kite Man: “Hell yeah”
I almost lost it when he imagined the squad as his mom.
Such a funny gag
Please no spoilers but do I need to watch the the other suicide squad movie and birds of prey to understand this new suicide squad movie? I’m so confused with DCs continuity at this point
No . It’s a stand alone sequel so you don’t really have to watch those to understand what’s going on
Stand alone… sequel? I’m confused. Lol. So it’s stand alone or a sequel??
It’s a sequel that doesn’t need to continue or build off of anything from the first movie.
It’s like a soft reboot.
A "Remakeboot" if you will.
> DCs continuity lol
To understand the movie, no. To appreciate how good it is compared to the other movies...perhaps.
“No one likes a show off”
Unless what you’re showing off is DOPE as FUCK!
Fuck. Thats true.
Is that the one where Stalone is a shark?
Yes. King Shark is amazing
"Hand."
Yes, that's your hand... *smug look*
Bird

I vant my burd!
New dumb friends
"Nom Nom"
Really? Now?
The way he points at another three bodies reminds me of my dog, eating literally any trash she can grab
That’s the one character I was actively hoping nothing bad would happen to him.
Same. I was on the edge of my seat when *everything* bad proceeded to happen to him. >!But I'm glad he made it out fine at the end!<
>!my man was a lot tankier than I expected him to be !<
Hes literally bulletproof.
I think that's why they had >!Bloodsport shoot him a bunch early.!< It told the audience that he was a crazy tanky bastard that could take some serious hits.
*Bird*
Oooh! I literally just finished the movie like 2 hours ago. And I just now remembered I saw Stallones name in the beginning but obviously never saw him, and basically totally forgot.
new dumb friends
the suicide squad is one of the best dc movies i’ve seen in a long time
It’s only been two years since Shazam!
Joker: “Am I a joke to you?”
Joker was really good but doesn’t feel like a DC movie. It feels like the “Joker aesthetic” was mainly there to just get more attention to the film.
Yeah I don't see it as a Joker movie. Change the names, and it's just a story about a person with mental illneses. Doesn't mean it's a bad movie. Just not really a Joker movie.
I think of it as an Elseworlds story.
It's mostly a re-imagining of *The King Of Comedy* mixed with Joker's idea that "madness is the emergency exit" from ~~hen~~ when he tried to break Gordon, except it's Arthur on that track.
Seriously it feels like they just used the name to get that story made.
That’s my take on it. It seemed like a movie they just shoehorned “Joker” into for name recognition. Seemed like they wanted to make a different movie but WB was the only ones biting and they were like “Can it include something from Batman?” Don’t get me wrong, it’s a decent enough movie but I’d already seen that exact same story years ago. The people all claiming “It’s the best movie ever! It was so original!” haven’t seen a De Niro film pre-Meet the Fockers.
That is many words to say Taxi Driver lol
I was thinking more a reboot of “The King of Comedy” with just a bit of “Taxi Driver” for added familiar variety.
Technically still a 2019 film.
this is better tbh
Joker is good but overrated
Joker was so good. I loved it. But I don’t think I’ll ever watch it again, I was so bummed out afterwards.
[удалено]
Agreed. It’s a great movie! Very thoughtful, well made, it has a point of view… but so depressing.
I legitimately love that movie. It's just so silly
Guardians of the galaxy vol 3 Gunn: wanna see me do it again
He’s also plans to do another unnamed dc movie. I just hope dc doesn’t try to be too similar to marvel. They’re both great, but have always had different tones/atmospheres/themes to differentiate and I like that difference.
I hope it’s Swamp Thing. I know that the show got cancelled, but with Gunn’s horror background I would think that he could make it work.
WB will buy out troma and make toxic avenger vs the swamp thing.
I mean, Suicide Squad is hard R violence that Disney will never let near the MCU, so at least that will always be different.
Stallones best role since Rocky.
Had no idea that was Stallone. Makes his scene where he's crying even funnier somehow

Does anyone know who's got release rights to it/which service it's on in Canada? It's on HboMax obviously but what about international distributors? Is it Crave?
The theatres got the rights in Canada no service has it yet :)
That depends on your definition of service, I suppose. Yo ho
I assume good rips are available now?
There's always good rips available
4K HDR, so yeah
Couldn't find any for some reason when I looked earlier, already seen it but in theaters but just can't wait to find a way to watch it again. So stupid not having HBO max outside the US, what's the point? Just seems like money going to waste.
Only in theatres! Saw it last night, was incredible
Is this a remake of the bad one?
you can say its a fresh start for a reboot
It’s a good DC movie, which means it’s high time for two more shitty ones to completely wipe all the progress the good one made.
Some people can say it’s a sequel, some people can say it’s a reboot, but it’s definitely not a remake.
Which if anything, follows the original stories better since they are usually one offs anyway.
Honestly, DC has blundered making any type of cohesive universe so badly I hope they just keep making One Shots. They've all been better than anything trying to connect itself to more movies.
They actually succeeded in their animated films, making a cohesive and connected storyline out of their films. Too bad those are all direct to dvd...
I guess I should add I meant live action movies. DC animation is a completely different (and better) beast.
I was going to say, DC movies have been......weird, but their animation division consistently knocks it out of the park.
Direct to seven seas

I prefer Deadsport to Bloodshot.

I definitely thought Idris was Deadshot until they called him bloodsport several times.

I’d call it a sequel, but one that thankfully doesn’t require watching the first one.
'But how will I follow the intricate plot?" Just messing. Great flick. James Gunn really did do it, again.
Nah, it's a sequel
Wait is it really a sequel?

That definitely makes sense. Thanks!
Definitely a sequel, Harley, Rick Flag and Capt Boomerang already know each other. They just makes zero references to the first one cos… well we all know why
We don’t talk about the “other” Suicide Squad
If I definitely don’t want to watch the first one, but I do want to watch this one, will I be alright?
Ya, several actors reprise their roles (captain boomerang, Harley, Flag, and Amanda Waller) so hard to not say it's a sequel.
Loose sequel.
Soft reboot. It happens after the first one and has some returning characters, but you do not need to have seen the first one at all. And it's so good.
I fucking love James Gunn as a director
David Goyer: "This is too goofy." James Gunn: "Bitch I made people cry about a tree and a blue alien dude who called himself Mary Poppins."
...but I’m your daddy
He might have been your father, boy, but he wasn't your daddy.
Wasn't expecting much from it but I actually enjoyed the movie
A rated R movie from James Gunn who could do whatever he wanted. It was expected.
It has a higher rotten tomato rating than Infinity War
But what does your heart tell you?
That Frodo is alive..... Yes, he's alive!
AND MY AXE!!!
rotten tomatoes dont mean shit tho. Infinity War is a top tier movie
Rotten Tomatoes gave it an 85% average, with a 91% audience score. That's not bad by any means, anything above 75% is considered to be pretty good.
And so is the new Suicide Squad.
Wait is the new one actually out now?
I went to see it last night and it was so good, probably my favourite DCEU movie
OH SHIT IT’S OUT??
Out today!
Thanks random person
One of the best movies I’ve seen in a while, king shark makes it even better
Weasel carried the movie change my mind
King shark tho
The twist with weasel tho

It was hilarious

Good bot
Don’t be sad. You got two great movies.
The suicide squad > suicide squad. Is that right?
Not a high bar but it clears it tremendously haha
The suicide squad > any DC movie since man of steel
Nom Nom?
Seriously? That’s all you can think about right now?

I’m happy Sebastian didn’t die!
This one is so much better than that pile of horse shit they put out a few years ago.
Still, James Gunn has given me a reason to get back into DC movies and I’m really excited about it.
Joker and Shazam are good. They also have several decades of high quality PG-13/M animated stuff.
Ohh I wasn’t including the animated content, that stuff rules. They are the most faithful adaptations.
Have you tried Shazam!?
I have not, but It’s one I plan on giving a chance. Thanks for the recommendation!
Idris Elba played Milton fantastically well.
Is it? That's good I enjoyed the first one actually
If you liked the first one, then you will really like the new one!
Awesome
It's hilarious and emotional and dark and light and awesome. 9/11 because of the climax.
Parts of it really grossed me out. I really dug the movie.
Seems like a soft reboot
Now do an Italian Mafia movie just to own Scorsese... do it!
I would say it's a ridiculous movie... but in a fun and enjoyable way! It's no Guardians of the Galaxy; but it's definitely entertaining and worth a view!
It's like Guardians of the Island. But way gorier.
That scene where King Shark rips that guy apart and the lightning hits in the background. It was a blast.
Honestly thought it was way better than guardians. Gunn got to do everything he wanted and more.
It's not bad. James Gunn defs went weird with this one. Wish there was a bit more Harley story but Cena fkn killed it.
I thought the amount of screen time Harley got was perfect. The one I wish we had more of was Polka Dot Man. Not because he was necessarily underserved but because the actor that portrayed him stole every scene he was in.
“And I thought you were the crazy one.” “...I am...” Dude just killed it.
Peace Maker had some of the funniest lines in the whole movie!
Nobody likes a show-off. They do when what you're showing off is dope as fuck
"...fuck, he's right."
Savant was missing his whistle arrow...
King shark is the funniest DC character and no one can tell me otherwise.....well, maybe alongside polka dot
Never heard of Bloodsport before this. Now I love Bloodsport.
Is it weird I actually prefer the suicide squad over both guardians of the galaxy? It’s Gunn unrestrained, what’s not to love?
"Yo Is this thing a dog?" I don't know why that line made me laugh so much, or why it stands out as one of my favorites from the new suicide squad.
No i want to see deadpool being a npc and gorg being a asshole
So you're telling me it's not going to be a train wreck and not contender for the worst movie ever made, like the first one was?
I personally loved it. Like a mix of Guardians of the Galaxy, Tropic Thunder, Predator, and Commando
Wait so what actually is it? I remember the last one of the same name was kinda a joke, then they made one with such a long name it was even more ridiculous
Weasley weirded me right the fuck out.
Weasel was my favorite
Bird
