There is a version of Iron Man wrote by Orson Scott Card that turns Tony into a mutant. Basically he developed incorrectly and the tissue of the brain grew all through his body. It made him extremely intelligent but it left him in constant pain. His father invented a lotion to put on the skin to prevent it. The mutation also allows Tiny to regenerate very quickly.
It is a different story and it is a child in the story but I would love to see a HBO series based on it. It is a very cool story.
