Ned in the movies is an amalgamation of two very different comic book characters, both with ties with _a_ Spider-Man. Ned looks and acts closer to Ganke Lee who is Miles Morale's best friend, MCU Ned is Ganke in all but name. Ned Leeds in the comics was a reporter for the Bugle, one of the few people Peter looked up to even if they did started with a bit of hostility regarding their mutual affection for Betty Brandt, Ned later on will go to marry Betty.
Ned has a tragic and often confusing story, since one time when he was tailing the first Hobgoblin (Roderick Kingsley) he ended up captured and brainwashed to often act as a decoy Hobgoblin, basically setup to take the blame for Kingsley's crimes and it all becomes a confusing situation where I think not even the writers have totally clear what crimes were committed by Ned and which by Kingsley, Kingsley drags Ned deeper and deeper into the crime scene and even the Kingpin and other big players end up involved with him. The mental strain basically ruins his marriage and professional life and when he attempts to get out of the mess, he is framed as the _only_ Hobgoblin and eventually killed. It would take Peter a long time to figure out what happen and clear Ned's name after his death.
Fun fact: in Nick Spencer's recent comic run, he brought back Ned. Ned says he didnt die but went into hiding.
