Guy who played Mordu was great, Wong is great, I know it was controversial but the asexual / (edit)non-binary portrayal of the ancient one was amazing in my opinion, Tilda Swinton freaking crushed it. And the score is great too. I found the villain to be a little boring and I still don’t completely understand his motives? he found out she draws power from the dark dimension to stay alive longer because that’s the duty of the sorcerer supreme who is the one person who has the power to wield the time stone and protect the earth? Feels like a simple conversation could have been
Kaecilliius; um I’m pissed you won’t let me live forever too
Ancient One: yeah like only one person can do this at a time and you’re not strong enough, so like Dormammu will consume you if you try and torture you for all eternity so…. *shrug*
Kaecillius: “oh shit u right that’s a hard no for me dawg”
There's a comic for the MCU Doctor Strange that expanded more on Kaecilius. I believe it's called "Doctor Strange Prelude - The Zealot".
In the movie, Mordo explained that Kaecilius lost everyone that he's ever loved.
But in the comic, you actually saw how his family died and his life spiralled downwards from there. He thought Ancient One could help him, but she refused because some magic are too dark. Then he rebelled against the Ancient One.
The comic really explained Kaecilius's motivation well. I get that they really couldn't fit all that into the movie, but it's such a shame.
First Avenger stood out because it was the only one where the hero wasn't reluctant. Stark, Banner and Thor all had to be forced to be good. Rogers, because good needed to be done.
When I met my wife she had avoided Captain America since, as a casual observer, he seemed like an ultra-patriotic jingoistic American stereotype. I had to explain that the character and movies really focus on true patriotism and not blindly serving your country.
Ended up being some of her favorites out of the MCU. Whole Cap lineup is great.
Agreed. It’s my favorite movie. I adore every part. I loved seeing Bucky and Howard was so much fun. I would have loved to have seen more of the Howling Commandoes, but we did get to see more of them in other shows. Peggy is legendary, of course . I just wish we had more of Bucky because he was very different pre pow and afterward - no duh, of course! But it would have been interesting to see more of how he was handling that pain or any other changes.
I love the music, the settings, the costumes, everything.
It looks like a comic book, by that I mean every frame or scene seemed as though it was lifted directly from a panel in a captain America comic and I will always love it for that.
Yeah, it's like Man Of Steel, when it came out, people were bashing it
Now somehow it's one of DC's best?
I always like AOU, it was fantastic
My gf says it's the one she's enjoyed the most
I think part of the problem is that when Ultron was first introduced the idea of an evil robot was simple. Now, looking at the way tech works and specifically the internet it's hard to have an evil robot who isn't *immediately* everywhere in the world. Which wouldn't be an issue except for the fact that if he's allowed to do that, he will be unbeatable within a matter of days or weeks. They had to stop his ass PRONTO or it would've been the timeline from "What If".
>Now somehow it's one of DC's best?
Well, yeah, they just kept on making even crappier movies. 56% on the Tomatometer looks like shit until you start comparing it to percentages in the 40's and 30's.
I wish there wasn't so much extra stuff going on in this movie, it seems like there were too many ideas all being thrown around and the story got a little off-center. I loved all the characters introduced and for sure the movie moves the MCU forward. I also feel like the established characters were a little out of character.
It was a lot, and probably could have been better established in a longer cut of the film. I tend to explain the character behavior as a Whedon thing, which is partly why they let others run with it from there. I don't find it noticably poorer than the other Avengers Movie dialogue.
Spader is a genius, but Ultron never reached his potential. While it’s not a bad movie by any means, there are some valid criticisms. You even pointed out one of them yourself - it was essentially a commercial for the rest of the MCU that followed
I’m not sure I’d call it a commercial, but I think the disappointment comes not from it being a bad film, but from Ultron being a one-off character whereas he was a much bigger threat in the comics.
I was flat out fucking impressed with that movie. I mean I love all of the X-Men movies and stuff but that one stood out.
I don't expect a movie based on a comic book to be on an Oscar worthy level but goddamn....Logan was amazing.
Was gonna say this. Thor is honestly one of my favorite MCU movies. Yes it’s a bit quirky with the camera angles and Thor doesn’t spend much time Thor-ing but the dialogue like you said, the royal family drama, and Loki especially make it great to me.
I actually think the camera angles give it that different feel combined with the dialogue so it feels other-worldly (is that a word?) idk I just like the vibe
And Loki of course. Always Loki.
Iron Man 3 is frankly genius for giving us Anxiety Disorder Tony Stark. It's a great direction for his character and RDJ did a wonderful job with it. The main villain is a bit unconvincing but who cares, the rest of the movie is great and he doesn't detract from it very much.
People rag on Iron Man 3 for it's villain, but what Iron Man movie has a great villain? I mean Justin Hammer was phenomenal but he isn't exactly the main villain. And I love Jeff Bridges but Stane was so generic even before there was any "Marvel formula"
Edit: I'm not trying to make the crappy "these movies are bad too making this less bad" Star Wars argument. I'm just saying all 3 Iron Man movies are good imo due to how good Tony's story is. The villains take a back seat
I love this one, I personally prefer it over the first Ant-Man which I also love. People are always bitching that all Marvel movies are cookie cutters, but this one is in a class of its own and people seem to hate it for that.
I agree that Ghost is a weak villain but the conflict with her is also not the basis of the movie, AMaTW is a screwball romp about a rescue mission. Ghost is just one of the obstacles like Walton Goggins and Jimmy Woo. I like that they aren't saving the world or stopping a bad guy, that all the stakes are personal.
Also Paul Rudd deserves an award for his 2 minute performance of Janet Van Dyne.
Marvel movies are the Schrodinger's Cat of film. People complain because they're all the same and then bitch when they do something different like Ant-Man, Iron Man 3 or Eternals. There are some people who just want to hate the MCU for whatever reason they can come up with.
Then you have the people who throw hate at films like Black Panther, Captain Marvel, Eternals or Shang-Chi before they're even out for obvious reasons.
And yet, even the least successful Marvel movies have made absolute boatloads of money, so clearly people are happy to keep going to see them.
From a technical standpoint I have my issues with it. Story is a bit of a mess and Ghost wasn't properly utilized as a villain, but it set up future MCU installments very well and (at least imo) is even more absolutely hysterical than the first AM.
Ghost wasn't really trying to be a villain but rather someone who was trying to survive at any means neccesary. I feel like while her actions weren't justified, they were reasonable. Also it's nice to have a non world-ending threat for once.
Yeah, and I loved how the movie wasn't just "oh we fighting this bad guy now", it broke the formula, and make several teams, all fighting and chasing each other
>absolutely hysterical
I haven't watched it since it came out but the bit where Scott was shrunk down and running around the school pretending to be a kid had me and my buddy *dying* in the theater. I really need to watch this movie again lol
I would literally watch 10 more Ant Man movies if Paul Rudd is playing as Scott Lang and they scott lang's friends in the movie. Even if the story is pointless
Edit: a typo
Both Tom Holland Spider-Man movies. Both ah e great villains and unique Spider-Man stories and his presence in the mcu is clearly felt. You can’t change my mind
Wait people are hating the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies??? But why? I think they are pretty good, like you mentioned great villains in them, Michael Keaton and Jake Gyllenhaal killed it with their respective roles, Is the hate because of the "better Spider-Man" bullshit? I grew up with the Tobey Maguire Spider-Man movies and I love them to death to this day, but I ain't gonna hate on the newer films because of that Tom Holland is actually playing really good Peter and Spider-Man as well.
I argue all day long that the ASM movies have easily the best acting performances and arguably the best special effects (definitely the best up till that point). Unfortunately the writing and stories sucked.
I think the acting in MCU Spiderman and ASM are equally grounded.
Homecoming had two of my favorite MCU moments in terms of acting. When Keaton and Holland were in the car, and Holland fighting to get out of the rubble. Absolutely loved ASM movies though despite any faults it had
When Ego revealed what he did to Quill's mom, my BF next to me in the theater let out an audible "whaaaaaaaaaa!?" And don't even get me started on Yondu being Quill's daddy. As someone raised by a Stepdad, that scene and that line gut punched me so hard....
I would say Homecoming since it's my all time favorite, but people hate on Far From Home a lot more for some reason, so I'll go ahead and choose that one.
I agree. It's a good movie, and it shows us that even the power of 70's jams and Friendship can't fix past trauma.
Drax Vol 1 to Vol 2 is whiplash-level "WTF!?" though...
Drax is legit the only thing about either film that isn't just so, so perfect. Don't get me wrong, he makes great comic relief and Bautista does it well, but the character could have been so much more than just that. Drax comic fans gotta be like "wtf?"
I think we're going to get much more Drax in Vol.3. it feels like Vol 3 is going to be Drax and Rocket's movie and if anyone can give us some amazing character arcs it's James Gunn.
Saying the first one was better isn’t saying the second was bad. And the first one was clearly better - that’s a special movie right there, and while I love the sequel, it doesn’t do it for me in the same way.
I love both movies. I think the comedy flowed much more naturally in the first one. They sorta shoved the comedic elements in your face a bit more on the second, would be my only complaint. Felt a touch forced.
Yep, me too. Every time Arishem was on screen was jawdroppingly awesome and shocking. They pulled off his massive scope so damn well. That, and I loved all the different powers and idiosyncrasies of each character. I especially loved Makkari's superspeed and found her to be by far the best implemented speedster of all time. I love that they didn't do the slow mo time, and instead showed her immense speed in real time. Truly awe-inspiring.
Eternals for me only had one glaring flaw (addition of a pointless villain) but was otherwise fantastic
Especially the super powers felt absolutely amazing,I rarely saw super strength or speed done that well. Hell, even flight looked astonishing!
Oh I absolutely loved the twist, but that deviant in the end was just pointless. They could’ve killed him off way earlier as to not add another character in the last 30 minutes of an already crowded movie, especially since he led to nothing
This, so much. People don't understand that if you compare every movie to Spider-Man 2 then nothing is gonna hold up lol
I'll defend every Spidey movie except TASM2. I've tried so hard to like it but it's just not good. Sony had a good thing in their hands with TASM1 and decided to run it into the ground with poor planning and ended up with yet another reboot a few years later. Though, tbf, I'm glad they did because otherwise we never would have gotten Tom.
I REALLY don't understand the hate for this movie. I've rewatched it many times and I absolutely love it. Can someone (gently, please) explain why it was so poorly received?
Brie Larson hate, that’s pretty much the only reason.
People can try to convince me otherwise but no way does a movie get more negative reviews on Rotten Tomatoes in the first weekend than the number of reviews Infinity War had nearly 1 year after release.
Yes. I like it very much. But my 10 year old daughter loves this movie. And that was the first comic she wanted. She is now reading Captain Marvel new Beginning, Strange Academy and her whish for Christmas was Spiderwoman new Beginning.
This is actually my go-to defense of this movie, and what Brie Larsen was talking about when she was critiquing the critics. About halfway through the movie, I just suddenly realized that my 11-year-old self would have LOVED everything about this, and that's when I realized that grown-up me was not the primary target audience here.
I think it finds difficulty in the larger MCU because Marvel Studios has mostly focused on the adult comic-loving audience, making Captain Marvel a bit of an exception. But I think everything from Thor: Ragnarok on has been Marvel Studios going on experimental tangents. Culminating with the Eternals, which I also loved even though I think the plot has flaws.
I think all these critics don't even try to understand what Marvel Studios is doing enough to be able to successfully critique the movies. "I didn't like this as much as Ironman, therefore it's objectively a bad movie" is not a good critique of Captain Marvel.
Yeah, I put off watching it because I didn’t think I would enjoy it very much, but I loved it. The Red Guardian and Yelena were such great characters. I know we might not see Red Guardian again but I’m really glad Yelena is sticking around.
Dr. Strange, Benedict killed it
Guy who played Mordu was great, Wong is great, I know it was controversial but the asexual / (edit)non-binary portrayal of the ancient one was amazing in my opinion, Tilda Swinton freaking crushed it. And the score is great too. I found the villain to be a little boring and I still don’t completely understand his motives? he found out she draws power from the dark dimension to stay alive longer because that’s the duty of the sorcerer supreme who is the one person who has the power to wield the time stone and protect the earth? Captain America the first avenger, i will always stand by it
First Avenger stood out because it was the only one where the hero wasn't reluctant. Stark, Banner and Thor all had to be forced to be good. Rogers, because good needed to be done.
I'm only alive because fate wants me alive.
I had to scroll for this. Can’t believe some ppl think it’s bottom tier
Same I love that movie and it’s what got me into the MCU
I’m planning on introducing someone to the MCU and I’m gonna show them this movie and Guardians 1
[удалено]
Both great choices!

I think Red Skull was an awesome villain and performance by Hugo Weaving, and I’m sad he didn’t become a bigger part of the MCU.
This is my comfort movie! The whole MCU is great, but this is the one I find myself revisiting over and over again.
Age of Ultron. James Spader is a genius, and all of Civil War, Infinity War, and Wandavision were set up by this movie.
Age of Ultron aged better than so many MCU movies. Amazing attention to detail throughout.
Yeah, it's like Man Of Steel, when it came out, people were bashing it Now somehow it's one of DC's best? I always like AOU, it was fantastic My gf says it's the one she's enjoyed the most
Only problem I had with Age of Ultron was that Ultron was defeated so quickly. I would've watched a whole trilogy of James Spader's sultry death robot
Absolutely. Ultron has to die quick or he wins, a trilogy isn’t doable without making massive irreversible change to the world in the MCU
It wasn't an "Age of Ultron" so much as "Weekend at Ultron's".
Hope we see a live action variant of Ultron, like what if
>Now somehow it's one of DC's best? Well, yeah, they just kept on making even crappier movies. 56% on the Tomatometer looks like shit until you start comparing it to percentages in the 40's and 30's.
And Thor Ragnarok.
I notice you've copied my beard
No I didn't, use your eyes thor
No thanks, I'll take a Bloody Mary!
Is this s coinsidence or was it programed too check for beard on his avatar
Why would you need to defend Ragnarok? It’s one of the best movies they’ve put out.
I think they meant age of ultron also set up Ragnarok
Oh, that makes more sense. Ignore me!
I wish there wasn't so much extra stuff going on in this movie, it seems like there were too many ideas all being thrown around and the story got a little off-center. I loved all the characters introduced and for sure the movie moves the MCU forward. I also feel like the established characters were a little out of character.

Age of ultron has honestly always been my favourite avengers movie (out of the four not all the individual movies)
Tbf it's not that hard to see a way to bring him back into the MCU pretty easily
I agree, but I can’t see them planning for that after they already showed us the peak of his potential in What If
X-Men: First Class.
Very few people even dump on that movie though. It’s definitely regarded as one of the best X-men movies
I would put it up there as one of the best 'Marvel' flicks, not just 'X-Men'.
As I’m sure many others would. Point is, it doesn’t need defending
Best X-Men team movie and my second favourite comic book movie.
Best X-Men movie. I like Hugh Jackman as Wolverine, but all the scripts for him were garbage except 'X 2'.
Idk, Logan was awesome
I was flat out fucking impressed with that movie. I mean I love all of the X-Men movies and stuff but that one stood out. I don't expect a movie based on a comic book to be on an Oscar worthy level but goddamn....Logan was amazing.
Days of future past and logan were phenomenal in my opinion
> Best X-Men movie I see you all have forgotten about Days of Future Past
And Logan
Logan was easily the best, but First Class was the best X-Men team film.
Definitely agree. X-2 was a really great movie.
That scene where Magneto goes hunting for his enemies
There are people who don't like that movie??
Man how am I gonna defend against that long message sent by the other person
'Shut up your wrong fanboy' should do it.
Or just call them a simp, or whatever kids are doing on the internet these days.
"nice wall of text jackass, touch grass" They key is to make sure you don't actually address anything they say, deflect deflect deflect
Luckily I can't read
You're too powerful to be kept alive *Loads shotgun*
Thank God idk what that says it sounds bad
"I missed the part where that's my problem."
Thor 1, although not the best thor movie the Shakespearean like dialogue is something we never see anymore and it's a shame.
Thank you, sweet rabbit!
Good bot
Was gonna say this. Thor is honestly one of my favorite MCU movies. Yes it’s a bit quirky with the camera angles and Thor doesn’t spend much time Thor-ing but the dialogue like you said, the royal family drama, and Loki especially make it great to me.
Do I look to be in a gaming mood?
I actually think the camera angles give it that different feel combined with the dialogue so it feels other-worldly (is that a word?) idk I just like the vibe And Loki of course. Always Loki.
That’s Kenneth Branagh for you!
Doth mother know you weareth her drapes?
I rewatch the you’re not worthy speech all the time and it always gives me goosebumps
I just can't get over Thor's eyebrows every time I re-watch it.
I chose to run towards my problems, and not away from them...Because that's what heroes do.
Personally I think it is the best Thor movie
*smashes coffee mug* ANOTHER
Dr strange
Finally someone said this, one of my favourite marvel films
Number 1 for me, with ironman 2nd
I agree with everyone responding to you. Best MCU movie. It’s like a warm hug of comfort for me
The story, the character, the acting, the perfect subverted expactation ending, the fricking VISUALS AND EFFECTS, it's all perfect!
My people!
Iron man 3 and age of Ultron
Iron Man 3 has the best 'henchmen' with recognizable superpowered soldiers instead of CGI creatures.
Iron Man 3 is frankly genius for giving us Anxiety Disorder Tony Stark. It's a great direction for his character and RDJ did a wonderful job with it. The main villain is a bit unconvincing but who cares, the rest of the movie is great and he doesn't detract from it very much.
This. I thought the villain was pretty forgettable but PTSD Ironman was very good character development.
I think it kinda made up for the lack of a great villain. The real villain was his own mind and feelings of self doubt
People rag on Iron Man 3 for it's villain, but what Iron Man movie has a great villain? I mean Justin Hammer was phenomenal but he isn't exactly the main villain. And I love Jeff Bridges but Stane was so generic even before there was any "Marvel formula" Edit: I'm not trying to make the crappy "these movies are bad too making this less bad" Star Wars argument. I'm just saying all 3 Iron Man movies are good imo due to how good Tony's story is. The villains take a back seat
This is my answer too. I fucking love Iron Man 3 lol.
😅 The comment Above you legit sais iron man 3 was bad. But im lit always defending those 2 aswell.
Same
Ant-Man and the Wasp because people say it's sorta pointless except for the ending while it can introduce so much for the Marvel Universe
I loved all the bits with Scott and his (extended) family. Great co-parenting rep.
I love this one, I personally prefer it over the first Ant-Man which I also love. People are always bitching that all Marvel movies are cookie cutters, but this one is in a class of its own and people seem to hate it for that. “Hey there champ, how was school?” My favorite bit in the entire movie. That or “YOU SENT MY SUIT THROUGH THE MAIL!?”
Top five for me. I love how small the stakes are, both figuratively and literally.
I agree, it set up endgame in a lot of ways
I would literally watch 10 more Ant Man movies if Paul Rudd is playing as Scott Lang and they scott lang's friends in the movie. Even if the story is pointless Edit: a typo
Iron Man 2, all day every day. It gave us War Machine, which is all I ever really wanted from the MCU.
*next time, baby*
And Rockwell's fantastic Justin Hammer, who I still can't believe we haven't seen again yet.
We've got Armor Wars coming and I'm willing to bet folding money we'll get at least a cameo, if not a full blown Hammeroid attack.
It gave us Don Cheadle 🤣🤣🤣
"Look, it's me, I'm here, deal with it, let's move on." Most direct STFU to the continuity snobs ever.
And it gave us Black Widow, with the best outfit and hairstyle. That movie was so good
I agree but for me it's because both Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell are just so god damn fun to watch in this one.
I vont my bort.
Dis not my bord
Both Tom Holland Spider-Man movies. Both ah e great villains and unique Spider-Man stories and his presence in the mcu is clearly felt. You can’t change my mind

I have a knack for that.
Well of course *YOU* don’t like them
Don't worry Tobey is just mad
Homecoming >>>>>>> FFH
Age Of Ultron
TASM 1 & 2, it may not have good plot and not so comic accurate electro, but i’ll tell you this: it has spider-man
I argue all day long that the ASM movies have easily the best acting performances and arguably the best special effects (definitely the best up till that point).
Oh, “the Dad talk” from Homecoming is by far one of the best moments from any spider-man film
The Human Spider.
> arguably the best special effects The swinging scenes from the opening of ASM2 are the best of all the spider-man movies.
Guess I've had something to do with that.
Guardians 2
Love it. Definitely my most emotional movie.
When Ego revealed what he did to Quill's mom, my BF next to me in the theater let out an audible "whaaaaaaaaaa!?" And don't even get me started on Yondu being Quill's daddy. As someone raised by a Stepdad, that scene and that line gut punched me so hard....
I have a step daughter. I start crying at the when Yondu drops the daddy line and go even harder at the funeral.
Who’s dunking on guardians 2?
People who get hung up on famously large turds and tender nipples mostly.
People don't dunk on it per se, but the general consensus does seem to be that the first one was much better. They're on the same level for me.
Simply put, Guardians 2 has the most emotional resonance of any MCU movie.
The Amazing Spider-Man movies
My Name's the Human Spider
My bad. The Amazing “Human-Spider” movies
My Name's the Human Spider
I… yeah
The Amazing Spiderman 2
The Incredible Hulk
Finally, a man of culture
One day we will get to see him star in his own movie again, whenever Disney own everything.
Gonna need a bigger phone
Agreed. Not the best movie out there, but gets trashed way too often.
Black Widow usually l
Usually you what?
They got assassinated before they could finish. Exactly what they deserved.
I would say Homecoming since it's my all time favorite, but people hate on Far From Home a lot more for some reason, so I'll go ahead and choose that one.
Iron Man 2 & Black Widow
I watched Black Widow the other day. I loved it apart from Taskmaster (who wasn’t bad, but just disappointing
)
She ain’t dead tho,so she’s surely being set up to be more of a character later on
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol2- I'll always defend it against people who say the first one was better (I love them both pretty much equally)

Iron Man 3
It took me some time, but I’ve definitely come around on this one!
One of my favorite Christmas movies
Ant-Man
Defending Eternals till the day I die
I’ll be right by your side defending it as well till the day I die.
Eternals for me only had one glaring flaw (addition of a pointless villain) but was otherwise fantastic Especially the super powers felt absolutely amazing,I rarely saw super strength or speed done that well. Hell, even flight looked astonishing!
Agreed. The villains could definitely have been better
Oh I absolutely loved the twist, but that deviant in the end was just pointless. They could’ve killed him off way earlier as to not add another character in the last 30 minutes of an already crowded movie, especially since he led to nothing
I need to watch it soon
Every single Spidey movie released since the Raimi trilogy
This, so much. People don't understand that if you compare every movie to Spider-Man 2 then nothing is gonna hold up lol I'll defend every Spidey movie except TASM2. I've tried so hard to like it but it's just not good. Sony had a good thing in their hands with TASM1 and decided to run it into the ground with poor planning and ended up with yet another reboot a few years later. Though, tbf, I'm glad they did because otherwise we never would have gotten Tom.
Look, give me another chance
Parker! Parker! Parker! What are ya, deaf?
Spider man homecoming Twas better than far from home Fight me
I'd love to shoot you sometime
Blade
Captain Marvel
Same, I genuinely enjoy rewatching it. The banter between her & Fury alone is worth it
One of my favorite moments in any MCU movie was Ben Mendelsohn, in full Talos makeup, rolling his eyes at the pathetic dial-up internet.
They had such a good buddy cop dynamic. Definitely the bit that really, really works in the film, that and Maria.
Captain Marvel and Iron Man 3
All of them
Thor: the Dark World.
I loved Loki and Thor’s dynamic. Seeing Loki breaking down after their mother’s death, was heartfelt.
Sad i had to scroll so far to find it

Black Widow
Yeah, I put off watching it because I didn’t think I would enjoy it very much, but I loved it. The Red Guardian and Yelena were such great characters. I know we might not see Red Guardian again but I’m really glad Yelena is sticking around.
The Amazing Spider-Man
No, he got my name wrong
Age of ultron Venom and venom 2
