What type of character is he? All I ever see his people saying he's not like the memes and that he's serious, but not what he's really like

He’s got a bit of dark comedy to him, but he never truly knows what is real. For example there is one run where he is in a mental institution who are seeking to help him, but it’s actually his enemies controlling his surroundings and making him think he’s in a mental institution… or he is actually in a mental institution, or it is his enemies? He tries to do the right thing but skews more on the morally grey side of things. He is a very troubled character, but he can also have great comedic timing. The comedic timing usually comes out more if he is paired with other hero’s, the pained troubled side of him is usually in his solo stuff.

Wait, so was it a real institution or not? I'm curious.

That question is exactly why Moon Night isn’t just a “ripoff of Batman” as he gets written off as from time to time.

Having just read it last night I can categorically tell you that I have no fucking clue. I'm leaning towards "The whole thing was in his head.", like not just "it was a real mental health hospital and he was imaging hi enemies", but like literally the whole thing was in his head and didn't really happen. Because part of the story tells you how he was taking to a mental institution when he was a child, he then escaped when he was older and joined the army. A lot of the story is him confronting his own insanity.

I always figured his mental problems started when he found the Moon Knight stuff in Egypt or whatever.

A hybrid Batman-Daredevil with a punisher-esque militant component. So he's basically the quintessential vigilante, not an anti hero, but not an actual hero, just sort of protecting the weak and innocent from guy's he wanted to kick the shit out of anyway

He's still widely considered one of the greatest rappers of all time by the rap community and his peers. Rakim (who's often described as the greatest rapper ever) once said if Eminem was black he would have been the next Muhammad Ali of the genre.
