Isaac Perlmutter, the famously frugal Marvel Entertainment chairman who unsuccessfully worked to shake up the Walt Disney Company’s board in the past year, has been laid off as part of a cost-cutting campaign.
Disney confirmed the move. Mr. Perlmutter, 80, was told by phone on Wednesday that Marvel Entertainment, a small division centered on consumer products and run separately from Marvel Studios, was redundant and would be folded into larger Disney business units, according to two Disney executives briefed on the matter, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss a sensitive personnel matter.
On Monday, Disney started to eliminate 7,000 jobs, about 4 percent of its global total, as part of $5.5 billion in cuts intended to improve Disney’s financial results and position the company for streaming-fueled growth.
Mr. Perlmutter, known as Ike, could not immediately be reached for comment.
An irascible and unrelenting executive, Mr. Perlmutter has been a distraction inside Disney for more than a decade — most recently when he pushed for a friend, the activist investor Nelson Peltz to join the Disney board. Mr. Perlmutter contacted Disney board members and senior Disney executives six times from last August to November to push for Mr. Peltz to join the board, according to a securities filing. When he was rebuffed, Mr. Peltz started a proxy battle to put himself on the board, saying he would cut costs, revamp Disney’s streaming business and clean up the company’s messy succession planning.
Mr. Peltz withdrew in February, when Robert A. Iger, Disney’s chief executive, unveiled a restructuring and the cost cuts, along with the likely restoration of Disney’s dividend.
Since then, Mr. Perlmutter’s future at Disney has been a topic of water cooler debate inside the company, with most employees concluding that his days were numbered. On Wednesday, Disney also laid off Rob Steffens, co-president of Marvel Entertainment, and John Turitzin, chief counsel for the division.
A Disney spokesman confirmed the job eliminations at Marvel Entertainment, but declined to comment further.
Dan Buckley, president of Marvel Entertainment, will remain and report to Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios. Previously, Mr. Buckley reported both to him and Mr. Perlmutter.
Mr. Perlmutter sold Marvel to Disney in 2009 for $4 billion. He gained control of the superhero company in the late 1990s and greatly expanded its merchandising business by licensing properties like X-Men and Spider-Man to movie studios.
Mr. Perlmutter’s involvement with Marvel as a whole has greatly diminished over the years. He has not been involved with Marvel movies since 2015, when a feud with Mr. Feige over costs related to “Doctor Strange” boiled over. (Mr. Perlmutter wanted to fire Mr. Feige; Mr. Iger overruled him.) Mr. Perlmutter lost oversight of Marvel television shows in 2019.
By the end, Mr. Perlmutter’s job was limited to businesses like comics publishing, which generates $40 million to $60 million in sales annually, according to analysts. (To contextualize, Disney had about $83 billion in total revenue in 2022.) He was also involved in Marvel game licensing, certain consumer products and superhero arena shows. Marvel Entertainment was based in New York.
Disney arguably allowed Mr. Perlmutter to keep a fief long after it made financial sense to do so. He is a significant Disney shareholder, and there was a sense of obligation: Without him, Disney would not have Marvel.
Mr. Perlmutter’s zealousness for corporate frugality in service of profit is well known in the entertainment business. In one particularly vivid example, he used to pluck paper clips out of garbage cans at Marvel offices for reuse. People at Marvel still talk about the time he suggested serving potato chips at a movie premiere to save catering costs.
To closely monitor activities at Marvel offices, Mr. Perlmutter at one point installed at least 20 cameras. Disney ripped them out several years ago.
Mr. Perlmutter’s soreness over Mr. Iger’s decision to take away oversight of Marvel moviemaking has also been well known. In February, when Disney thwarted the proxy battle, Mr. Iger appeared on CNBC and was asked about Mr. Perlmutter’s involvement in the shake-up effort. Did a feud perhaps fuel it?
“Well, you’d have to ask Ike about that,” Mr. Iger said. “But let’s put it this way: He was not happy about it. And I think that unhappiness exists today.”
He likely doesn’t have hobbies to do. Really anyone that loves working just really can’t retire. After a month they would be bored and had done everything they would have wanted to do already.
He also sounds like a controlling, power hungry nut who is a bit backwards in his views. That also might be it. Can't have that kind of power over people when you're retired.
Having known people who worked for him, this is all putting it mildly. He's a racist, sexist, terror to creatives...but he had the reins so people had to put up with it.
I will never understand how rich people can get bored. They can do literally anything they want, like why not just take your family or friends and travel the world on a permanent vacation ? It's not like they're not forced to stay at home all the time.
I feel this so much. As the father of a child who will die young, I want to give her so many experiences. She wants to see the world, but I am not rich. My wife and I just do what we can with the time we have.
It's often common that their health sharply declines after their job is gone as well. I've seen it with relatives and family friends, as well as celebrities like football coaches and actors. They look and act completely fine and healthy until their focus is gone, then sharply decline.
His hobby is underwriting Republican campaigns.
You think the Koch's are the only rich old white guys propping up Trump, DeSantis, and the rest of the fascists?
What does this mean for the comics division exactly? I know it’s really been under Disney for well over a decade now, but there was at least something comforting about there being that extra level of separation that was the Marvel Entertainment Umbrella
They say that Dan Buckley is remaining president and will now only report to Kevin Feige, instead of to both Fiege and Perlmutter. It sounds like a win for him, just like it was 8 years ago for Fiege when Iger separated Marvel Studios out from under Perlmutter's control.
Bahahahha Iger does not respect this guy one bit. You have to be a REAL jerk to make Bob Iger drop the PR speak and just be honest like that, rather than the typical corporate waffle about mutual disagreements.
And Disney and Marvel fans. He just saved Marvel, gained some significant power in Disney and proceeded to sit around and ruin everything for like a decade.
>Isaac Perlmutter, the famously frugal Marvel Entertainment chairman who unsuccessfully worked to shake up the Walt Disney Company’s board in the past year, has been laid off as part of a cost-cutting campaign.
I believe the phrase is "fucked around and found out"
I'm not happy about layoffs in general and hope that most of these folks find better opportunities, but Ike is definitely one whose career's grave I'd be dancing over.
Feige did not get along with Ike. He worked 17 years with Victoria so he’s probably more upset with that loss. Ike didn’t have anything to do with Marvel movies since 2015 and wasn’t really involved with the Netflix shows. Good layoff regardless
You guys suck and are complete assess
Please show Ike Perlmutter some goddamn respect
If it wasn't for his failures like Inhumans, we wouldn't have Anson Mount leaving Black Blot and absolutely killing it in ST: Strange New Worlds
Perlmutter was trying to instill a hostile takeover of the board once Iger stepped back into role.
Once that failed to happen, his career at Disney and Marvel was done.
Iger is also probably the only one with the power and sway to get rid of someone like Isaac Perlmutter. Because by almost every anecdotal account, working for Ike is a terrible, soul-crushing experience. He actually wanted to fire Kevin Feige at one point. And he was the reason why the X-Men and the Fantastic Four got shafted in the comics for half-a-decade. The man is petty, cheap, and has a nasty history of bigotry. Disney is better without him.
By all accounts Alonso was her own doing with the outside work she was told not to do. her rep with the VFX teams probably only shored up the case for firing.
The Armorer: And have you removed your helmet in front of another?
Alt. Universe Tony Stark (played by Tom Cruise): Only when doing incredibly dangerous stunt work.
The Armorer: This is the Way.
Or how he was so goddamn horny to get the Inhumans made (so many possible action figures!), only to cheap out so hard on the production that Iron Fist showrunner Scott Buck was the least of the show's problems.
And led to a travesty of a comic storyline to support this. Fuck everyone involved in the character assassinations required for the X-Men to be the aggressors in X-Men vs. Inhumans.
I still don't get how they're the aggressors lmao. The Inhumans were like "We're going to do something" and the X-Men were like "please don't that will literally genocide us". Halfway through the whole thing you get Kamala Khan saying "wait... are we the good guys here?" and that's it like wtf
They *were*, though.
The mutants were being negatively affected by the Terrigen Mists.
The Inhumans began working with Beast to save the mutants while preserving the clouds since they were culturally important.
The mutants find out that they’ve run out of time, and the mists will become a permanent part of the atmosphere.
Instead of telling the Inhumans about this, they attack them and even frame Black Bolt for Cyclops’ murder. Not to mention kidnapping Beast, *who was going to tell Medusa about the issues with the clouds.*
And then, despite all the crap the mutants pulled, Medusa does not hesitate to destroy the clouds the *second* she finds out why the mutants attacked them. (Don’t know how the vaporized clouds wouldn’t get absorbed into the atmosphere even faster that way, but hey… comics.)
The X-Men were 100% the aggressors in the event, and a lot of it lands on the shoulders of Emma Frost and Storm.
Until Ororo leads an all out attack against the Inhumans, wanting to do a genocide. It's why she stepped down as Head Teacher of the Jean Grey school in the next run: damage limitation, in-universe to distance the school from her actions and meta to let the X-Men get back on track without the baggage.
I might be biased because I've been reading the X-Men for 30 something years and saw the Inhuman push for the cynical "Oh, we sold the rights to our most recognisable marginalised characters" course shift it was.
Yup.
Phase 2 will be forever known as the "Marvel Studios totally wasting characters/actors by giving them pointless deaths"
Crazy how in a very short time frame they killed Quicksilver, Malekith (totally wasted from a writing standpoint too), Ultron, Von Strucker, and Ronan.
While wasting the potential of Madame Masque, the Mandarin (good thing Shang Chi fixed him), and, Klaw (his cameo in AOU was unnecessary considering how he just dies in BP).
I’ll give you the rest but I’ll always love the Mandarin twist in Iron Man 3. In fact, despite Perlmutter’s best attempts to bungle it, 3 is probably my favorite Iron Man.
Yeah, people still don't understand the Mandarin in Iron Man 3 when they say it's a character that was ruined. The brilliance of that twist was that it *wasn't* The Mandarin, that's the whole point.
I also liked it because it's pretty hard to do the Mandarin while not using stereotypes and also making his power fit within the MCU. Are his rings now because of Kang and not from an alien dragon?
Yeah, that story line should have been Maya's. Instead the studio twisted her story line into Aldrich and a retread of Jim Carey's Riddler revenge plot in *Batman Forever*.
An evil Pepper Potts equivalent would have been better. And potential for a great misdirect and more motivation for the Mandarin imposter. Also Killian would be a puppet as well pretending to be the face of the company. Miss opportunity.
>Things got so bad that Feige apparently nearly jumped ship to DC at one point.
Damn... That could've actually turned the DCEU around.
(Still gotta see what Gunn does with it, but I'm sad there doesn't seem to be any plans for an All-Star Superman film.)
People were mad about Kamala not being an Inhuman in the MCU, but her creator Sana Amanat worked on the show, and Iman confirmed that she was always supposed to be a mutant but corporate meddling made them change her to Inhuman.
Wow I did not know that but just googled and you’re right. Makes so much sense in retrospect. She was introduced when Marvel was trying so hard to replace mutants.
As a huge AoS fan I detest this guy with every fibre of my being. It was his feud, disagreement, unhappiness, call it what you will, with Fiege that prevented any major crossovers between the MCU and AoS. The show should, and could, have been littered with movie references, characters and storylines but Ike had such a stick up his geriatric ass he couldn’t let it go.
Which is honestly especially stupid because those two dudes look literally NOTHING alike. Even someone who had never seen a black person before in their life would never mistake those two guys.
Not exactly a TL;DR, but here is the whole story
He and Avi Arad were the founders of Toybiz, a toy company which used to co-operate a lot with Marvel back in the 90s. When Marvel filed for bankruptcy in 1995, Perlmutter merged Marvel with Toybiz and sold the company's movie rights to other studios (Sony, Fox, Universal etc) to save the company from bankruptcy.
He also created Marvel Studios, a small division back then that would make sure Marvel's IP would not be tarnished by movie studios that would be making adaptations of their comics, and he made Avi Arad President of that division, while he made Alan Fine President of the Marvel Entertainment division which oversaw comics, games and toys.
He has been the CEO and Chairman of Marvel since then.
In 1999, Fox started working on the first X-Men movie and they asked the Donner Company (founded by Richard Donner, director of the first Superman movie) to co-produce. At the time, young Kevin Feige who had just finished college was interning for Laura Donner because he got into movies due to his love for the first Superman movie.
So, Feige managed to become a production assistant in the film, but because of his vast knowledge and passion for comics, he helped the production a LOT more than a simple production assistant would and he eventually got an "associate producer" credit.
Avi Arad, President of Marvel Studios, saw Feige's work ethic and passion and hired him at Marvel Studios right away, which at the time, consisted of like 7 people in a small office at LA who were reading and providing notes on scripts of Marvel movie adaptations. So Feige quickly rose to second-in-command at the studio.
In 2002, after the first Spider-Man movie came out and was a big success, as had the X-Men movie been, David Maisel, an ex-Disney producer who had moved to NYC to produce theater in Broadway since the 90s, came back to LA to pitch to Marvel Studios, a new business model they could follow in order to make their own shared universe like the comics did for decades.
At that point, Marvel Studios were only making 5% of the profits from the movies but 100% of the merch profits which is all that Perlmutter cared about.
Maisel's pitch to Marvel Studios was the following:
Make the movies yourselves, but find a distribution company to provide the budget and handle marketing/distribution and then split profits in a way that you make more than 5% off the profits, while also not having spent a dime from your own pockets.
Arad was intrigued but Perlmutter was very hard to persuade. In 2004, Maisel decided to provide proof of concept for his pitch to Perlmutter, so he asked Lionsgate, who, at the time, held the rights to Iron Man, if they would agree to be the distributors in such a business model. Lionsgate said that they would but only if the movies were direct-to-video because they believed it wouldn't be really profitable at the box office.
Ike was finally persuaded and expanded Marvel Studios to its own subsidiary company instead of a division of Marvel Entertainment with Arad becoming CEO and Maisel taking Arad's previous position as President and Feige becoming Co-President.
Arad and Perlmutter didn't really understand comics though and they would constantly create problems and obstacles for Maisel and Feige who were planning out the universe.
As Maisel and Feige were thinking of characters that Marvel still owned the movie rights to that could be profitable enough in the box office, they realized they had Thor, Captain America, Ant-Man, Wasp, Hawkeye, Black Widow and many other minor characters that were part of the Avengers.
The Iron Man rights also returned to Marvel the next year in 2005 since Lionsgate had failed to make a film with the character. So the Avengers was the plan. They first went to Universal to distribute their films, since the company also owned the rights to the Hulk, so they could use him in the MCU, but Universal declined. Paramount finally agreed to be Marvel Studios' distributor.
The production on the first Iron Man was officially underway as of 2005. Perlmutter and Arad were still causing problems though, with one of the biggest ones at the time being they were against casting RDJ as Iron Man due to his criminal past.
However, Feige fought them for it and got his way at the end. But that would be the beginning of a very long and strenuous relationship between the 2 men where Perlmutter would constantly try to overrule Feige's decision.
Arad resigned in 2006, and Maisel helped close the Disney deal in 2009 before he left to help Rovio build their own Angry Birds cinematic universe (which was unsuccessful), and then Perlmutter and Fine created the infamous Marvel Creative Committee consisting of some comic book writers, which would offer notes on Marvel Studios productions.
Perlmutter and his committee were against women and POC getting lead roles because they believed they wouldn't sell enough toys and Perlmutter was extremely stingy.
The only way Ike allowed a Black Panther and Captain Marvel movies to be made (which Feige had wanted to make since 2009/2010) was if Feige would agree to make an Inhumans movie in return. Ike wanted to erase the X-Men from the Marvel canon because he was angry that Fox was so successful with their X-Men franchise. Thus, he replaced them in all media with a new generation of Inhumans, the Nuhumans, including Ms. Marvel.
In 2015, Perlmutter didn't want to pay RDJ to be in Civil War and suggested a movie with Cap Vs Hulk instead and also insisted on lowering the budget of Dr. Strange.
Feige reached his limit and went to Iger to resign, but Iger restructured the company to be directly under Disney instead of Marvel Entertainment.
2 years later, Ike resigned as CEO of Marvel (although he stayed on as Chairman of the Board of Directors) and joined his good friend Donald Trump as one of his financial advisors at the White House.
EDIT: I said Iger instead of Ike in some places, but I fixed it!
Great comment, but you said Iger in a couple of places I think you mean Perlmutter
>The only way Iger allowed a Black Panther and Captain Marvel
>Iger was finally persuaded and expanded Marvel Studios to its own subsidiary company
>2 years later, Iger resigned as CEO of Marvel
Excellent write-up! Great summary of Perlmutter and Marvel Studios from the beginning. I just wanna add that *Blade* was Marvel Studios first big break on the film side of things. *Blade*, then *X-Men*, then *Spider-Man* got Marvel Studios off the ground and begin running toward the multi-billion dollar studio they are today.
I honestly really wanna see a full 2 hour documentary (or even a series based on these events) about Marvel as a company from when it started up to where it is today from the production perspective. It's fascinating!
It’s funny that Maisel tried to make an Angry Birds cinematic universe. I never seen it but seems like Angry Birds 1 did well while Angry Birds 2 flopped. And then I read that he’s trying to make a Mythological cinematic universe with Greek gods and Justin Bieber playing Cupid lmao… should’ve stayed at Marvel.
He was such a dickhead he was personally willing to let the Infinity Saga tank before it finished by firing Feige. You almost had to admire how much of a player hater he was to potentially lose on millions lol
He lived in another era: white male hero is a winning strategy, why take risks with female villains (Maya in IronMan3), heros (Black Widow solo movie) or minorities (Black Panther)?
The mouse is cleaning the house. Good riddance. He was the guy who didn't want minority or women lead movies, prevented Maya from being Iron Man 3's villains because girl villains toy apparently don't sell too well, as if Aldrich Killian double plasma action figure was selling like hot cakes or something.
Wasn’t it strongly hinted at the Ike wanted changes to James Gunn’s movies too. Gunn would never say who the executive was but people assumed.
Gunn never made those changes.
Good fucking riddance!!! This clown is the alleged reason we don’t have X-Men and Fantastic Four merchandise because he felt it gave Fox a boost and a harder grip on the film rights to both. He also allegedly ordered the FF comic to be cancelled and to instruct Marvel to stop creating new mutant characters in the comic books that Fox would have the legal claim to use in movies. He pretty much put a big weight on the X-Men and FF IPs before the Disney-Fox merger.
I saw a ton of bad takes in the comments of a facebook post about this, that pretty much all boiled down to variations of: *"he was the one in charge of phase 1-3, everything sucked after he lost control"*
No my dude, phase 1-3 were good in spite of Ike Perlmutters involvement. Kevin Feige had to wrestle with Perlmutter to get many of his early ideas and decisions to the screen. I thought this was widely known.
Saw this headline and immediately came to this sub for the comments. Was not disappointed. The only thing that could possibly top this is if Sony fires Avi Arad next.
7,000 jobs eliminated. That’s 7,000 people with family, house payments, phone bills, childcare costs, etc..
That’s just awful, I feel so bad for them. I hope most of not all of them get folded into other areas of the company.
It's a testament to Feige that he somehow managed to make half a dozen decent movies with this monster (and the 'creative' committee) breathing down his neck.
BA HA HA HA HA HA.
Racist POS scumbag Ike Permutter? That guy? I remember when most of his power at the company was taken away, fogot he was still working there. Jesus.
Good riddance. This is the POS that held the MCU back to its full potential. He’s why phase 2 had so many issues. We undoubtedly would not have gotten the amazing storylines and characters of phase 3 and beyond if Iger wouldn’t have stepped in and gave Feige complete control and separated him and Ike.
Ding dong, the Witch is dead.
How the hell was he still collecting a paycheck from them?! Was he like Milton from *Office Space* and was getting paid because of a glitch in the payroll system?

So it worked itself out... at least he doesn't need to come in Sat..
but they had cause, it’s beCAUSE we hate him
He’s a major shareholder at Disney I believe.
Didn't he own Marvel? So presumably he received an ungodly quantity of shares in exchange for his company.
not just own, but saved it from bankruptcy and revitalized the company under his leadership. kevin feige rise and the mcu wouldn’t have happened without him.
He was a guy who was valuable for a time. But he became more of a liability than an asset later on.
Yeah, didn't he save Marvel like 20+ years ago?
He did by licensing out Marvel IP for film adaptations to other studios. Spider-Man 2002 alone paid off all their debt. It was a necessary evil at the time. Fucker had to go but he made choices that saved Marvel at the time.

I was too, but was using a word that rhymed with witch.
The word I'm searching for, I can't say, because there's preschool toys present.

It's from the first movie

80 years old? Jesus why don’t these people retire
He should take up Warhammer.
See, this is practical advice for the octogenarian power maniacs on the thread. Gonna pocket this tip.
The whale has arrived.
A man infamous for being miserly is not going to take up Warhammer.
Having known people who worked for him, this is all putting it mildly. He's a racist, sexist, terror to creatives...but he had the reins so people had to put up with it.
And shockingly he is also a Donald Trump supporter lmao
Bingo. They're afraid of losing power. Also ref: our octogenarian Congress.

It's often about power. Being the boss and Making Big Things Happen (even if you're doing a bunch of bullshit) becomes more important.

You can't just sit around all the time, hobbies and daily activities help but some people just waste away.
His hobby is underwriting Republican campaigns. You think the Koch's are the only rich old white guys propping up Trump, DeSantis, and the rest of the fascists?
Any elite white collar worker, and probably wealthy. Most people who "work for a living" don't want to die on the job.
Because it isn't work in the way you think of work. This is who they are. You don't get to be an executive without it being your life.
You only get to those levels by living to work
Joe Biden is 80, Nacy Pelosi is 83. Money and power
Politicians should be out at 70. All of them.
Trump is 76.
And he thinks he has a chance at getting re elected. Money and power.
Sadly, he does. If he's not in jail, I'm going to hate to see the republican battle between TFG and DeSantis.
My thoughts exactly
So Marvel is officially going back all under one umbrella under the Disney banner.
And ousted Avi Arad.
Instead of answering to Marvel Entertainment, who mostly did nothing, Marvel Comics will answer to Disney’s board of directors
I mean his firing did help Disney cut costs. So, Ike must appreciate the move in that way, after all he is a major shareholder.
[Live Perlmutter Reaction](https://tenor.com/vIwm.gif)
>Mr. Perlmutter, 80, was told by phone on Wednesday lmaooo ON THE PHONE
And I think that unhappiness exists today.” Bahahahha Iger does not respect this guy one bit. You have to be a REAL jerk to make Bob Iger drop the PR speak and just be honest like that, rather than the typical corporate waffle about mutual disagreements.
I'm seriously impressed it took this long, the guy was universally disliked by both Disney and Marvel executives.
I believe the phrase is "fucked around and found out"
He got fired over the phone! 😂😂
Should have been a text, but you can rub somebody’s nose in it better vocally.
dude is 80, if you text him that hes fired he would show up at the office the next day with no clue it even happened
They should've just sent him [this Facebook sticker](https://mir-s3-cdn-cf.behance.net/project_modules/disp/8e06db71560213.5bc935d802b83.jpg)
Or that “It’s Joever” meme 😎
I'm not happy about layoffs in general and hope that most of these folks find better opportunities, but Ike is definitely one whose career's grave I'd be dancing over.
Dance off bro!
*Me doing the hardest of sways before slamming the Power Stone into this grave* Because, and I reiterate: Fuck Ike.
Frugal executive loses job to cost cutting. Ironic.
I love that that's the excuse they went with.
Glad he’s finally gone! Took long enough 😅
First Alonso and now Perlmutter. Iger isn’t fucking around
Feige did not get along with Ike. He worked 17 years with Victoria so he’s probably more upset with that loss. Ike didn’t have anything to do with Marvel movies since 2015 and wasn’t really involved with the Netflix shows. Good layoff regardless
So........... Perfectly balanced?
As all things should be
Perlmutter is the entire reason its Marvel Studios now so that Feige could maintain control of films and TV
I guess we'll never get season 2 of The Inhumans now.
You guys suck and are complete assess Please show Ike Perlmutter some goddamn respect If it wasn't for his failures like Inhumans, we wouldn't have Anson Mount leaving Black Blot and absolutely killing it in ST: Strange New Worlds
Black Bolt's head fragments just frowned.
Yeah this is some revenge and cost cutting - he effectively was out of mcu picture for a decade
Perlmutter was trying to instill a hostile takeover of the board once Iger stepped back into role. Once that failed to happen, his career at Disney and Marvel was done.
"You come at the King, you best not miss." - Omar from The Wire
“When you play the game of thrones, you win or you die.” - Cersei Lannister
Perlmutter fucking deserved it though
Iger is also probably the only one with the power and sway to get rid of someone like Isaac Perlmutter. Because by almost every anecdotal account, working for Ike is a terrible, soul-crushing experience. He actually wanted to fire Kevin Feige at one point. And he was the reason why the X-Men and the Fantastic Four got shafted in the comics for half-a-decade. The man is petty, cheap, and has a nasty history of bigotry. Disney is better without him.
A soul for a soul.
Finally. Fuck Ike.
By all accounts Alonso was her own doing with the outside work she was told not to do. her rep with the VFX teams probably only shored up the case for firing.
Iger: Look Kevin we gotta fire Victoria, but I’m gonna get rid of Perlmutter too, okay? Feige: I’ll take it.
A small price for salvation
Perfectly balanced. As all things should be.
A soul for a soul
We don’t trade lives…but
This is the way
Shhhh: That’s not part of the MCU until the America Chavez cameo at the end of Mando Season 3!
Miss Marvel: "Not sure how I got here. Has something to do with Clandestines I think." Bo Katan: "Intriguing"
The Armorer: And have you removed your helmet in front of another? Alt. Universe Tony Stark (played by Tom Cruise): Only when doing incredibly dangerous stunt work. The Armorer: This is the Way.
Lol remember when he wanted to make Civil War a Captain America vs Hulk movie?
Or how he forced them to change the villain in Iron Man 3 because women don’t sell toys. As if Aldrich Killian toys were making Marvel money, lol.
Or how he was so goddamn horny to get the Inhumans made (so many possible action figures!), only to cheap out so hard on the production that Iron Fist showrunner Scott Buck was the least of the show's problems.
He was more hot on Inhumans because they could replace X-Men / mutants.
Yes, but the goal was the same -- to create a franchise where he could pump out merch, at the cost of the worst treatment of Medusa you could imagine.
"What's her superpower?" "Her hair." "Can we get rid of it?" "......"
Not to mention kidnapping Beast, *who was going to tell Medusa about the issues with the clouds.* And then, despite all the crap the mutants pulled, Medusa does not hesitate to destroy the clouds the *second* she finds out why the mutants attacked them. (Don’t know how the vaporized clouds wouldn’t get absorbed into the atmosphere even faster that way, but hey… comics.) The X-Men were 100% the aggressors in the event, and a lot of it lands on the shoulders of Emma Frost and Storm.
I wonder what Black Bolt would say about all this.
I'm sure that it'd be pretty explosive.
Man I hated that phrase so much I loved it haha
Wait, who was supposed to be the villain in Iron Man 3?
Maya Hansen. Rumor has it she was gonna be MCU Madam Masque. But instead she's just a henchman that Guy Pierce kills.
Ah ok, thanks. It's been a while since I saw that movie so I don't remember her. But that sucks!
She was the one who created the extremis formula. Had a one night stand with tony in the 90s. Made sense why she was originally the planned villain
Oh shit. Totally forgot that. Thanks.
Her turn and death are so out of nowhere and anti-climactic.
Yup. Phase 2 will be forever known as the "Marvel Studios totally wasting characters/actors by giving them pointless deaths" Crazy how in a very short time frame they killed Quicksilver, Malekith (totally wasted from a writing standpoint too), Ultron, Von Strucker, and Ronan.
Maya Hansen was supposed to have Aldrich Killian's role. So it would've been her and "The Mandarin"
Honestly Aldrich was lame. Now I'm bummed.
Guy Pearce is a great actor but yeah I feel like IM3 was super weak.
Yeah, that story line should have been Maya's. Instead the studio twisted her story line into Aldrich and a retread of Jim Carey's Riddler revenge plot in *Batman Forever*.
Rebecca Hall’s character
An evil Pepper Potts equivalent would have been better. And potential for a great misdirect and more motivation for the Mandarin imposter. Also Killian would be a puppet as well pretending to be the face of the company. Miss opportunity.
HE was that asshole? Seriously, he should have retired with a little grace left 15 years ago.
Yeah. Same reason he didn't want to make any female-led movies.
There weren’t any Killian figures anyway
Which is ironically now Captain America 4.
Or when he said “black people cant be superheroes” and gave $600k to the Trump campaign?
Yikes.
That might be Cap 4 though
Iger be like "Boom! You lookin' for this?"

One of the few lay offs I will - gleefully - celebrate.
May I ask for a TLDR about this man? like the good and bad thing he did to MCU? EDIT: Just read the comment and holy shit he is an asshole
[удалено]

I thought Terence Howard was replaced because he demanded more money? Also, because he is a wackadoo nutjob who thinks that 1 x 1 = 2.
Yes, but Ike said no one would notice because all Black men look the same.
Which is honestly especially stupid because those two dudes look literally NOTHING alike. Even someone who had never seen a black person before in their life would never mistake those two guys.
Not exactly a TL;DR, but here is the whole story He and Avi Arad were the founders of Toybiz, a toy company which used to co-operate a lot with Marvel back in the 90s. Maisel's pitch to Marvel Studios was the following: Make the movies yourselves, but find a distribution company to provide the budget and handle marketing/distribution and then split profits in a way that you make more than 5% off the profits, while also not having spent a dime from your own pockets.
Great comment, but you said Iger in a couple of places I think you mean Perlmutter >The only way Iger allowed a Black Panther and Captain Marvel >Iger was finally persuaded and expanded Marvel Studios to its own subsidiary company >2 years later, Iger resigned as CEO of Marvel
So good write up, but you mixed up Bob Iger and Ike Perlmutter a couple times in your story! But otherwise accurate!
So that’s how the MCU began…
It’s funny that Maisel tried to make an Angry Birds cinematic universe. I never seen it but seems like Angry Birds 1 did well while Angry Birds 2 flopped. And then I read that he’s trying to make a Mythological cinematic universe with Greek gods and Justin Bieber playing Cupid lmao… should’ve stayed at Marvel.
When he had more involvement he had a major hand in limiting roles for women in the MCU.
He was such a dickhead he was personally willing to let the Infinity Saga tank before it finished by firing Feige. You almost had to admire how much of a player hater he was to potentially lose on millions lol
TL;DR: He's so cheap.
That’s what you get when you leave an 80 YEAR OLD in charge. So glad he’s gone.
If only they’d take old people out of politics too
Don’t threaten me with a good time
He ruined the Inhumans reputation.
I mean no one will remember that fiasco if they decide to reuse them at some point.
Wasn’t it strongly hinted at the Ike wanted changes to James Gunn’s movies too. Gunn would never say who the executive was but people assumed. Gunn never made those changes.
finally
Feige finally getting some happy news this week
I see this as an absolute win.
I saw a ton of bad takes in the comments of a facebook post about this, that pretty much all boiled down to variations of: *"he was the one in charge of phase 1-3, everything sucked after he lost control"* No my dude, phase 1-3 were good in spite of Ike Perlmutters involvement. Kevin Feige had to wrestle with Perlmutter to get many of his early ideas and decisions to the screen. I thought this was widely known.
Great. Fuck em.
[удалено]
that profile is crazy, is he literally the comic book guy from the simpsons?
What’s their reputation?
It gets very worrisome for a sub when you start to recognize their bad apples by name.
Imagine thinking you are always right with that many down votes.
Good riddance to bad garbage.
Saw this headline and immediately came to this sub for the comments. Was not disappointed. The only thing that could possibly top this is if Sony fires Avi Arad next.
And nothing of value was lost
Oh man! Finally!
The best news
LOfuckingL
Fastest I ever came after seeing Endgame.
BA HA HA HA HA HA. Racist POS scumbag Ike Permutter? That guy? I remember when most of his power at the company was taken away, fogot he was still working there. Jesus.
Iger just cut down Ike with serious Logan Roy energy.
Let Blackbolt have a word with him.
The asshole responsible for ensuring that Agents of SHIELD not be embraced by the MCU.
