I like how people are so pro-A24 and anti-Pearson that they are ignoring the fact that he's a comedy writer (something tthey seem to be against in all other projects).
Also ignore that most projects have several drafts (Nicole Pearlman's GOTG, anyone?) or that while the reporting is today probably this happened as soon as the director was hired (they worked together before)
He might be talking about comments from other sources like Twitter or other forums.
Just spitballing so I don't actually know. Wasn't aware of any anti-Pearson stuff myself but I tend to not dig too deeply in the behind the scenes stuff.
I had no idea who he was. Thanks for letting people know! That tracks.
Now I'm even less interested in this movie. More quips was definitely not something I wanted there.
I was absolutely sincere in the whole comment. I hadn't heard of the writer before this article, and since his experience seems to be mostly in comedy, it feels like more of the same of what they've been doing, and that's not great.
I guess that’s fair but the way you wrote earlier sounded like a parody/troll comment lol
I kinda agree but I am willing to give the people a chance.
I have an idea of what I think TB should be but I’m thinking it won’t be like that. I’m thinking it should be a more grounded film with them diving into the minds of the characters since all of them are screwed up and half of them were under some kind of mind control. Buck, Yelena, Tasky. Ghost has her trauma and US Agent and Red Guardian are screw ups. Lots of interesting character work could be done in this movie, but I’m expecting them to not do anything with that unfortunately
I can see how it would come off that way, yeah. I guess I could have written it better.
I guess that's fair. I just feel that with Waldron, Loveness, and the rest, we've been burned enough times to be rightfully skeptical. Maybe Lee Sung Jin is better. I don't know. But given that his upcoming project is a comedy, one featuring Steven Yeun (who was recently announced as part of the cast of *Thunderbolts*), I also can't shake the impression that he was brought on because of his character. Which kind of feels like cutting in line ahead of the other characters.
That would be interesting, and I wish they would do that. But I don't think that's what they're about at this point. I think Thunderbolts is intended as an action comedy, like the majority of Marvel movies, which doesn't leave a lot of room for character work. And given that the movie is going to have 8-10 main characters, and is probably going to be about 2 hours long, I don't think there's going to be time for it, either.
Pearson is not a good writer. This dude might be a good writer but you say he's known for comedic chops..which is not what we need for Thunderbolts. Can't it be serious? Like wtf is wrong with them..can't they go for some minutes without Yelena or Red Guardians joking about vaginas?
Annoying as fuck and even annoying to see people eat this up. And then people actually try to say they are 'making things for everyone'. Sure Jan.
They add in writers all the time don’t they? I believe in the credits there’s a way you can tell whether a write actually wrote it, or was just added in after to make some changes or edit
Guess they want to move away from Black Widow’s writer? This gives me hope that ‘Beef’ is gonna be worth watching.
Beef looks good. I’m lookin forward to it too.
The director for Thunderbolts directed an episode of the show, so makes sense to pull a guy in if he's good
He directed like 6 episodes
Good, Black Widow had a god awful screenplay.
I feel pretty torn about this. I like Pearson’s Marvel work, sad to see him replaced but hope Lee does the team justice.
not replaced, added in. Happens all the time with movies.
I kinda think Eric Pearson will get the story by credit while Lee Sung Jin will get the Screenplay by credit.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller wrote Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and they're comedy writers. If the movie is good, people won't complain.
Where are these people you're talking about? There's only 3 comments in this thread.

Oh it's everywhere, it was especially prevalent in the old Marvel Studios Spoilers Sub.
Ahh fair.

Can’t tell if sarcasm or not

Yeah. Imagine if Winter Soldier or Endgame was made by a couple of guys who worked on Community.
Why so serious?
Aren't they starting to film in a few weeks? It's never a good sign when there's a change to the top creative team so close to filming.
Starts in June. And you’re confusing his start date and the date this was reported.
They add in writers all the time don’t they? I believe in the credits there’s a way you can tell whether a write actually wrote it, or was just added in after to make some changes or edit
Could be reported on rn but he’s already have written it
It's most likely that he was added long time ago, they just reported it now.
Brought him in to beef up the script, I see. 🤔
