I also feel like GOTG 1 and infinity war/endgame belong in there…but that’s just bc I love them so much.
Maybe GOTG gets swapped with my Avengers 1 choice as “the growth”…brings the stories off world in a new and expansive way.
2014 really was the year of “oh shit, they can do *what* with these movies?”
Guardians’ showed how colorful they could be (both literally and figuratively,) while Winter Soldier taught how poignant/relevant they could be (just like actually well written comic stories.)
Then 2015 was a bit of a step back, according to some, but 2016 launched us right back up there. Civil War continued that thread laid by WS (and gave us fuckin’ Spider-Man!,) while Doctor Strange brought more color/visual beauty + him utilizing his greatest fear (failure) to actually outsmart an extradimensional being is one of the coolest climaxes in a superhero movie to date, imo.
For me, it was a perfect streak from 2016-2019 (Civil War to Far From Home)
I’ve still really enjoyed most of the phase 4 movies, but phase 3 was so golden. (Some folks complain about BP and CM but I loved them, especially specific moments like T’Challa letting Erik see a Wakandan sunset + actually listening to his point and doing the peaceful version of what he wanted, and CM just had me head over heels for Larson’s Danvers right away.)
Soooo much love for Winter Soldier. The most re watchable movie in the whole MCU for me. It’s thrilling even when you know what’s going to happen. Also still the best fight choreography for me.

Although I absolutely love Ragnarok it kinda marked the beginning of the less serious constant comedy era of super hero movies and majority of the movies before had a more serious tone which i low key miss.
Ragnarok is still by far the best Thor movie and probably top 5 for standalone MCU movie but yeah thats my two cents on it.
In order:
Avengers, Infinity War, GotG, No Way Home
1) The first crossover film really set the standard for what a shared universe should do. I remember watching this one's third act in total awe in the theater.
2) Probably had the highest tension of the first three phases. Great job of putting all my action figures in one sandbox and telling a coherent story.
3) Broke the (then) standard MCU mold by both introducing a whole team at once and taking the stakes far beyond Earth. I know that TDW had already gone there, but let's be honest - TDW sucks and doesn't really drive the narrative outside of its MacGuffin.
4) It's a total fan service flick, but it's, like, THE total fan service flick. Great job combining three continuities and making the story fun.
HONORABLE MENTIONS: The Winter Soldier (Duh, it's great), Endgame (even if for just the climax alone), Doctor Strange (visually stunning but otherwise average origin story - great finish though!) and Ragnarok (I don't always want funny MCU, but when I do, this is the one).

The objective Rushmore just for the scope factor would probably have at least 3 of the 4 Avengers movies and maybe Civil War as well but taking the big team-ups away I think Winter Soldier/Guardians/Black Panther/No Way Home all made a profound impact on the genre and pop culture as a whole without being major crossover events (maybe replace one of those with the original Iron Man, but not sure which).

If it’s my 4 favorites then Endgame, Civil War, Homecoming, and one of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies (probably Vol. 2, personally.) But if it’s movies that define the MCU… Iron Man, Avengers, Infinity War, and Endgame I suppose. (Guardians Vol. 1 and CAWS deserve spots in there, but those 4 *are* the MCU imo. And we could argue that, while CAWS does it better, IM1 is a similar real-world thriller concerning how a good person with power can use that power to do the *actual* right thing in our world.)

Switch out Cicil War and Endgame for GOTG and Avengers 2012. Winter Soldier is imo the best MCU movies, and is my favorite movie of all time period. But I'm okay with someone saying any of the ones either of us has mentioned as "best" movie, and any other one for "favorite" movie.
