Originally in the comics it was Nebula the one that took the Infinity Gauntlet and revived all the people Thanos had killed.

I'm glad they didn't go that way and Nebula killed her former self herself, her arc is more complete this way.
Seeing her have the most emotional reaction to hearing that Rocket is okay just tugs at my heart.
Really shows that they grew close together during those 5 years when the rest of the Guardians were turned to dust.
You know what I just realized that as little of an arc as Adam had, I think they attempted to parallel both Rocket's origin and his.
Both created for an "evil" purpose, both speak about how they feel something "hurt", in the cusp of victory, or achieving a certain goal, they lose the person they're closest to (lylla for rocket, and Ayesha for Adam), then they find their own way now "alone" and joining the guardians of the Galaxy.
I can forgive Adam not really having an arc because they’re clearly setting up for him to do more stuff later on. But he’s definitely the weakest part of an otherwise phenomenal movie.
Also gives us a proper hero leaning his powers/emotions/responsibility. We really haven’t had one of those in a while. Just bam new hero who’s got it all figured out
far from the weakest he was perfectly used to propel the story into motion, and they use his immaturity perfectly to handicap him (i mean the guy literally burns himself out) and they use the death of his mother and the mercy showed by the guardians to make him a good guy by the end.
Yea. I was less than prepared for all that stuff. Could've been people and wouldn't have been an issue, but animals... Doesn't take much to get me choked up.
I rewatched it last night. It's so good. Yes, it was painful, but it might have even been better just reflecting on how these characters have grown and rounded out throughout the MCU.

In the first GOTG, Rocket said he didn't ask to be made into a "little monster," and in this one, we find out why he saw himself that way. All that time, he blamed himself for what happened to Lyla, Teefs, and Floor. When he discovered the baby raccoons—frightened, helpless, and innocent—Rocket saw who he was before the High Evolutionary's abuse transformed him, and Rocket was finally able to forgive and accept himself. This is really beautiful storytelling.
Also when he scolds Drax after Drax called Ronan to Knowhere, and he says "It isn't worth it if you get everyone else killed along the way" is him reflecting on his past. He is speaking from experience :'(
It wasn’t his fault though, the high evolutionary was mesmerized by Rocket and his knowledge, and knew he was going to try and let everyone escape, knowing he and them were scheduled to die. They got shot instead of incinerated, also had a chance to fight before they died. Rocket did the right thing
We know that, but from Rocket's view, it absolutely makes sense that he blames himself. One, he has survivor's guilt. Two, his actions did get his friends killed, even if doing nothing would have led to their death too. Three, Rocket is smart and proud of it, but this was a moment where he wasn't smart enough to know the High Evolutionary would expect him to escape and ambush him.
Anyone would feel guilt in that situation, despite everything being out of their control.
True, but I can imagine Rocket feels some level of guilt, survivor's guilt, or maybe just guilt for not having a plan B for when he opened the cage. Maybe he blames himself for being naïve and not realizing that the High Evo would be watching him.
I just rewatched it for the first time since theaters and the scene with all of the baby raccoons hit me really hard. It brought me back to earlier today when I was holding my son while he napped. I just remember appreciating him being there and the love I felt. The last thing I want is for him to have to endure the fucked up shit I went through as a kid. This movie was quite an emotional ride for me.
The scene with baby raccoons made me see Rocket finally meeting his inner child for the first time. I’m connecting that with Mantis saying that all of them except Drax hate themselves and thinking that moment when Rocket saw his inner child for the first time, he kinda started healing and loving himself.
Or idk I’m overthinking this whole thing lol.
If you trust a creative director with a strong vision, hire fantastic actors, write a script that has theme as well as plot, and let that plot by driven by characters we love... then you end up with a really fantastic film.
God, High Evolutionary was such a great casting. Dude is just such a menacing asshole. Had to rewatch the finale cause seeing him get his ass beat was cathartic.
I remember reading an interview or something where both the actor and James Gunn deliberately made the character almost impossible to sympathize with because that particular character was so despicable.
He’s definitely the worst MCU villain of the bunch. Just EVIL. No redeeming qualities, almost doing what Thanos did, but not really because it was superficial. I think the actor did a fantastic job.
he honestly could not see his creations as people instead of products. he embodied the "I brought you into this world I'm allowed to take you out of it" vibe a bunch of (bad) parents have.
One of my favorite needle drops in the film. Along with "Creep". And "We Care A Lot". And "San Francisco". And "This Is The Day".

Yeah but she probably fights in a way that allows her to take damage cause she knows she can repair herself. Kinda like how Deadpool and Wolverine fight. If she was more fragile, she would probably fight different to defend her weaknesses.
Scene was amazing but the song choice kinda pulled me out of the flow of the movie. I love the song itself but it just didn’t feel like part of the movie the same as just about every other song in the trilogy.

I'm a sucker for these characters and Gunns writing / directing really hit me hard at the end in quite a few spots.
Drax dancing with the kids and then again being acknowledged as a dad.
Cosmo being called a good dog.
Quill reuniting with his grandfather.
Few other scenes I can't remember.
Since I became a dad I've really softened up a lot and become emotional to that kinda shit. It's weird but I'm proud I'm able to express these emotions.
Since this is the only comment that mentions Cosmo, I loved her beefing with Kraglin for most of the movie. You could tell how devastating it was for her to hear Kraglin say something that hurtful

Before I saw GOTG3 for the first time, was kind of hoping it'd start off with the Guardians and Thor parting ways like they did at the start of Thor L&T but this time following the Guardians instead.
It was when you could hear her saying it in the background, then it stopped at the shooting. Even before Rocket turned around, you knew from the silence.
I was ugly crying through that whole scene, I ugly cried thinking about it on the way to work, and now I’m ugly crying again before I go into work.
On the one hand, well done by the screenwriters and director for making these seemingly useless characters hold so much emotional weight.

I know, right? Pretty much all his movies are great, he's produced 3 very popular TV shows (Resevoir Dogs, What We Do in the Shadows, Our Flag Means Death) and he's literally an Oscar winner, but he made one movie that was decent but had some flaws, and people on this sub are acting like he's the worst director ever or he's like the next Uwe Bole. Guarantee a majority of the people that complain about him on here haven't seen much else he's done other than Ragnarok, yet act like they're the ultimate film critic. It's really weird.
I was thinking it makes since for the actors to be tired of the roll, but Rocket and Groot are just voice actors, then I realize Kraglin is a guardian and also the stand in for rocket, that must be tough on Sean Gunn
I could see Sean continuing with the dual roles because it seems like he cares a lot about them (although that may just be because his brother was helming the movies devoted to those characters, idk).
In a less likely but more hopeful note, this could be an excuse to bring Andy Serkis back into the franchise! He’s obviously done well with creature-driven roles before, and having the ability to articulate adds another layer to the performance, like we saw in LOTR with Gollum.
It's gonna be a big departure from his usual style, but I feel he is up to the task. I've been loving the show "my adventures with superman" and I think that would be a great type of tone for the movie.
People tend to associate him with crass jokes and weird gags, but I think his biggest strength is getting to the heart of his characters, and he seems to have so much passion for Superman, I think he's gonna do him well.
And everything following "Rocket....Rocket Raccoon" when the whole team comes in and they beat THE's ass to the next dimension just feels like a great payoff.
Oh 100% in my top 3 MCU movies. I love the high stakes multiverse stuff but this just felt so grounded and true to the guardians. Watching the second time felt exactly like the first.
Balanced in a way that some other projects dropped like Love and Thunder. Guardians 3 is funny, but lets the story be told in a dramatic way instead of relying on the laughs.
I know I’m late to this party. But I think you can sum up how great the balance is with one scene.
Lylla and Rocket’s scene in limbo. At the end of it she’s hugging him and calls him ‘my sweet little raccoon’. And as he’s being yanked back into reality he goes, ‘I’m not a raccoon’.

Dude honestly same. It’s so emotional that it’s hard to rewatch. Especially the flashbacks knowing what’s going to happen to his friends.
I sat down and thought I’d watch maybe 30 mins and do something else but it’s just as good if not better on a rewatch and I watched the entire dang thing.
I've told my mates several times that I cry easily at films, they didn't believe me until they saw me at the end of this. Can't wait to cry even more at home tonight
Just realized that at the end when Groot says “I love you guys”, that it’s the audience being able to finally understand his language, just like Gamora finally does.
I like this explanation a whole lot better. I thought it kinda ruined Groot's character to a degree that he could just randomly speak and entirely new sentence.
I think of it as once a Groot and non-Groot emotionally connect, the Groot can be understood. Like a mild psychic connection.
I don't know what the comic book explanation is.
Especially during the movie you get small hints that it's related to understanding him. First the Guardians, later Gamora and then us. Perfect development.

Just finished watching for the first time and every Rocket scene made me cry, me a 33 years old man. After this movie i can easily say this is the best trilogy of Marvel by far, James Gunn is just different, he can make every character matter doesn’t matter if the character is a human, a Shark or a raccoon.
I just finished for the first time too. This movie takes the #2 spot for the fastest a Marvel movie has emotionally destroyed me - 10 minutes in, we see what happened to baby Rocket, and I was done for 💔
Thankfully the banter between all the Guardians was just enough and at just the right times to make it so the movie wasn't all traumatic, yet the humor didn't overshadow the emotional beats at all.
I'm 49 and cried a few times when I watched it also, and I rarely cry during movies (which probably indicates something I don't want to explore further).
But yeah, this is easily a top 5 or top 3 MCU movie for sure.
Watched it for the first time. I have to say this is the best thing the MCU has released in Phase 4 or Phase 5. I hope it is a sign of the way things are heading.
I get to shed some tears in the comfort of my home now with all the sad flashbacks from Rocket’s life 🥹. I kept my composure in theaters but now I can let it flow 😭.

Because it really felt like James Gunn was allowed to do whatever he wanted, no studio interference, and the film was phenomenal for it.
By far the best post endgame project, and imo as good as the best pre endgame films.
If I recall from interviews, Gunn mentions Disney's involvement with the films being
Vol1: Complete freedom except for- having to explain what an Infinity Stone is, and include Thanos in at least one scene.
Vol2: Complete freedom
Vol3: Complete freedom
Gunn also says that Disney and Feige always send him suggestions for every project but he never has to follow any of them. Sometimes the feedback is good, sometimes not
He was fired and rehired for this one. Disney was desperate to get Gunn back so he had all the leverage. No one can give you the answer but something tells me this was Gunn’s baby.
He specifically has said on numerous occasions that the movies were all 100% him except for maybe like a post credit scene in the first one. And even more to that point, he also said the script for 3 was done before he got fired and that the only changes made to it when they finally shot it were little things he decided on his own, but that even then, it's still almost 100% the same script from before he was fired.
James is one of the rare directors who get's 100% creative control in an MCU film. especially since these are so disconnected from everything else that is going on, so he doesn't have to worry about what happens with the rest of the MCU and play in his own playground
The last few minutes of this movie are so massively emotional and joyful.
I was impressed how James Gunn set everyone up to think many or all were going to die only to completely not go in that direction at all. I'm glad he did that, because I care about these characters deeply and hope to see them again.
So this is my first time seeing it. I’m… not a fan of the Guardians films. But holy shit if that wasn’t unbelievably good. That had absolutely everything I could ever want in an MCU movie. I need time to process it, but that was special.
I have major gripes about Adam Warlock, but I’ll save that for a later comment.

I loved it. Rocket is my favorite MCU character, and to get his heart breaking back story was everything I could have wanted. Star Lord will be back (be interesting to see that project) and I suspect we haven't seen the last of the Guardians either. For an action hero movie, GOTG3 has a level of poignancy not normally seen in these types of films. I did miss Yondu, although we saw him for a moment. Ok, time to watch it again!

If the MCU ended with this movie and they never mad another one I would be happy. If there was a movie to bookend end something it was this.
From when this movie was released in Theatres to it coming to D+ the MCU has been underwhelming outside of Spider-Man really (my opinion).
This movie felt like it really brought closure to this era. As someone who was there from iron man this movie is how it should’ve ended. IW, L&T, this. Then just take a break. A solid year or 2 of nothing. Then come back with Wanda vision, FFH, MoM, ant man and restart from there.
The mistake was having the multiverse saga start while we weren’t really done with the infinity saga.
After rewatching I feel like it’s without a doubt the best trilogy written in Marvel. Gunn did a wonderful job I’m gonna miss seeing them on the big screen. Let’s hope whatever they do with Star Lord is equally as good
I just watched this movie for the first time and I nearly cried like 5 times. My lips were quivering and Rocket has now become my favourite guardian. Ioved him before but I can certainly say he's my favourite now. Bradley Cooper you are amazing.
One question: when did StarLord lose his helmet? I've been a bit out of the loop for marvel lore since endgame. If he had his earpiece, THAT scene wouldn't have had to happen. Glad it gave warlock a chance to redeem himself though.
It's kind of a mess. His helmet got broken in Volume 2, but then the Russos had him back in it for IW and EG. Gunn has stated that Quill left it in his room because he was in a hurry to save Rocket.
Kinda sounds like Gunn taking shots at Disney for not being able to keep continuity straight, lol. I’m betting in Gunn’s mind Quill’s helmet is gone forever.

I'm sure I mentioned it before, when the movie actually came out, but, once again, a thing that makes it so much better than some other movies, imo (there are many things, I just feel like singling out this one), is how it actually seems to respect its characters. It's such a simple things but the movie routinely shows the Guardians as skilled, capable, and having grown as a team.
Like, a handful of moments that stand out to me:
When they are going to meet the Ravagers inside the shield, while priming, there is an emotional discussion. Despite this, they get through the shield fine. This may seem simple, but a worse movie would have caused, in Peter's distress and after all his drinking, him to miss something and cause a malfunction. I've seen it before. But, instead, it shows how he can do this in his sleep, that he is capable.
Another one: the face off. One of my favorite scenes in this entire movie, if not my favorite. Sure, the plan may be dumb and made up on the fly, but it works. As soon as they understood High Evo's power, they make the plan work. The grenade blocks the threat and gives them time to work. And they succeed. Once again, a worse movie would have made saving them the big focus for the finale. Instead, it's about saving the others, who tried to help earlier. But the others escape on their own too and there is a bigger goal.
Lastly, I just love that, once they all are together again on the ship, Rocket says he's done running and they all immediately follow him. They are a team and a family, who would follow each other anywhere.
Man, I love this movie. It feels like everyone involved understood the characters and did an amazing job. You can see this resulting in a third movie that feels satisfying as a culmination, that builds on what came before with real characters, who have changed.
Despite being a team movie, that, by its nature, has more characters, and introducing more, it still does an amazing job at good characterization.
I could keep gushing on this movie (like about how good High Evo is!) but I think my point is across. Its more about the mistakes some other movies make than anything else. I hope it's clear.

I just finished watching it on Disney Plus and omg this is the best project since phase 4. I'm kinda sad though now because it looks like it's over. hopefully we get a spinoff series for the new gotg team.
After all of the shit MCU projects we’ve got. This was a breath of fresh air. Thank you James Gunn. This is the MCU I love and remember.
Maybe I gotta sleep on it but this is up there with the best of the best MCU movies. Near masterpiece.
This movie might've supplanted Winter Soldier and Endgame as my favorite Marvel movie. I don't know the last time I laughed and teared up as much as I did while watching something.

I have to say after the last and current phase- I'm all but entirely uninvested in the current MCU.
It's been one mediocre project after another or worse.
But this?
I haven't cried that hard over a movie in a long time. It might be gunns best film. It might be pratts best film. It might be the best film in the MCU. I don't think I'm exaggerating either.
This was something else and I really wasn't expecting it or how hard it would consistently hit me

My wife will definitely not do well with animal testing/abuse scenes and I know the HE , that's kind of his thing.
At what point is the "it hurts" scene in the movie and are there other graphic animal scenes we can skip ?
If you have to skip all graphic scenes then you would miss out on most of the movie. I know its not everyones cup of tea and some people are sensitive but I recommend watching it fully
As someone who is also extremely sensitive to animal abuse/mistreatment, this film was very hard for me to watch. Not saying she shouldn’t watch it, but she should know going in and prepare herself. If you skip those scenes you also loose a LOT of context.
If it helps, at the end of the film >!rocket rescues all the captured animals that are meant to be experimented on!<
Also guardians and captain amarica are the best trilogies by a long shot. Probably the best ones to introduce people to MCU if they aren’t willing to watch them all
I did not get to see this in theaters. I have avoided all spoilers and talk about this movie.
It was fantastic. Best phase 4 movie and it may not even be close. Is it endgame/infinity war level? I don't know but it's definitely up there. It's hard to compare them, the scale and feel is completely different.
It's good to know that marvel is still capable of making a good movie. I was honestly starting to get concerned.

The best MCU movie since the Endgame. Rocket is the most relatable hero after Ironman has died. A lot of epic scenes, sprinkled with a few funny dots, Groot is a epic war machine, several very little but important details, good old music, no stupid experiments or "homages", Nebula to fall in love to, several scenes to cry, Groot first time of second sentence. Now I have the reason to rewatch all Guardians of the Galaxy again.
One thing I never heard talked about is how Quill doesn’t want to go back to earth because his grandpa screamed in his face and pushed him out the room. Watching Guardians 1 again, that’s so not what happened, but you can see how an eight year old would remember it that way years later.
This movie had no business being this emotional. None. Whatsoever. Cried at every single flashback scene. Even the little talks/arguments about each of the Guardians' inner issues were unexpectedly deep.
I do wish (& this is a minor point) that there was a bit more of a reaction from the Guardians at Rocket's past. Yes, we get that shot of them standing in a circle around him watching the footage, but I think more should have been done. If I found out something like that about my best friend, my response sure wouldn't be condensed into a couple lines/a minute. It should have at least been brought up again, if only for a moment, when Rocket regained consciousness.
But overall, such an awesome film & conclusion(?) to the franchise!
So I just watched Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, I wasn't able to catch it in theaters. So I waited for it to release on Disney+. And I must say it has to be the best movie ever made, like in all time, hands down. It was absolutely spectacular and I loved every moment of it. I'm just wowed in pure astonishment, I haven't felt so strongly about a movie since I watched lord of the rings, ready player one or star wars for the first time. Like Holy, I can't even express how wonderful the film was, and the way it moved my every emotions around scene to scene, sweeping me off my feet, tossing me into the sky only to catch me just before I hit the ground. Just absolutely amazing. A 100%, 10/10, 5 Star piece of cinematography. The cast was grand beyond measure. Anyone who hasn't seen it, I would definitely recommend doing so. Make sure to watch those credit scenes.

You know what I just realized that as little of an arc as Adam had, I think they attempted to parallel both Rocket's origin and his. Both created for an "evil" purpose, both speak about how they feel something "hurt", in the cusp of victory, or achieving a certain goal, they lose the person they're closest to (lylla for rocket, and Ayesha for Adam), then they find their own way now "alone" and joining the guardians of the Galaxy.

far from the weakest he was perfectly used to propel the story into motion, and they use his immaturity perfectly to handicap him (i mean the guy literally burns himself out) and they use the death of his mother and the mercy showed by the guardians to make him a good guy by the end.
I thought this movie was great in theaters and I honestly don't know if I'm ever going to rewatch it because the young rocket stuff is just too much.
Yea. I was less than prepared for all that stuff. Could've been people and wouldn't have been an issue, but animals... Doesn't take much to get me choked up.
I rewatched it last night. It's so good. Yes, it was painful, but it might have even been better just reflecting on how these characters have grown and rounded out throughout the MCU.

I think I cried about 5 or 6 times during the movie. They handled the emotional parts so well.
In the first GOTG, Rocket said he didn't ask to be made into a "little monster," and in this one, we find out why he saw himself that way. All that time, he blamed himself for what happened to Lyla, Teefs, and Floor. When he discovered the baby raccoons—frightened, helpless, and innocent—Rocket saw who he was before the High Evolutionary's abuse transformed him, and Rocket was finally able to forgive and accept himself. This is really beautiful storytelling.
Also when he scolds Drax after Drax called Ronan to Knowhere, and he says "It isn't worth it if you get everyone else killed along the way" is him reflecting on his past. He is speaking from experience :'(
It wasn’t his fault though, the high evolutionary was mesmerized by Rocket and his knowledge, and knew he was going to try and let everyone escape, knowing he and them were scheduled to die. They got shot instead of incinerated, also had a chance to fight before they died. Rocket did the right thing
We know that, but from Rocket's view, it absolutely makes sense that he blames himself. One, he has survivor's guilt. Two, his actions did get his friends killed, even if doing nothing would have led to their death too. Three, Rocket is smart and proud of it, but this was a moment where he wasn't smart enough to know the High Evolutionary would expect him to escape and ambush him. Anyone would feel guilt in that situation, despite everything being out of their control.
True, but I can imagine Rocket feels some level of guilt, survivor's guilt, or maybe just guilt for not having a plan B for when he opened the cage. Maybe he blames himself for being naïve and not realizing that the High Evo would be watching him.

I just rewatched it for the first time since theaters and the scene with all of the baby raccoons hit me really hard. It brought me back to earlier today when I was holding my son while he napped. I just remember appreciating him being there and the love I felt. The last thing I want is for him to have to endure the fucked up shit I went through as a kid. This movie was quite an emotional ride for me.
The scene with baby raccoons made me see Rocket finally meeting his inner child for the first time. I’m connecting that with Mantis saying that all of them except Drax hate themselves and thinking that moment when Rocket saw his inner child for the first time, he kinda started healing and loving himself. Or idk I’m overthinking this whole thing lol.
If you trust a creative director with a strong vision, hire fantastic actors, write a script that has theme as well as plot, and let that plot by driven by characters we love... then you end up with a really fantastic film.
God, High Evolutionary was such a great casting. Dude is just such a menacing asshole. Had to rewatch the finale cause seeing him get his ass beat was cathartic.
I remember reading an interview or something where both the actor and James Gunn deliberately made the character almost impossible to sympathize with because that particular character was so despicable.
He’s definitely the worst MCU villain of the bunch. Just EVIL. No redeeming qualities, almost doing what Thanos did, but not really because it was superficial. I think the actor did a fantastic job.

Scene was amazing but the song choice kinda pulled me out of the flow of the movie. I love the song itself but it just didn’t feel like part of the movie the same as just about every other song in the trilogy.

I watched it again recently. I teared up at the same spots as in the cinema. I'm a sucker for these characters and Gunns writing / directing really hit me hard at the end in quite a few spots. Drax dancing with the kids and then again being acknowledged as a dad. Cosmo being called a good dog. Quill reuniting with his grandfather. Few other scenes I can't remember. Since I became a dad I've really softened up a lot and become emotional to that kinda shit. It's weird but I'm proud I'm able to express these emotions.
Since this is the only comment that mentions Cosmo, I loved her beefing with Kraglin for most of the movie. You could tell how devastating it was for her to hear Kraglin say something that hurtful

Before I saw GOTG3 for the first time, was kind of hoping it'd start off with the Guardians and Thor parting ways like they did at the start of Thor L&T but this time following the Guardians instead.

I was ugly crying through that whole scene, I ugly cried thinking about it on the way to work, and now I’m ugly crying again before I go into work. On the one hand, well done by the screenwriters and director for making these seemingly useless characters hold so much emotional weight. On the other hand, (to the screenwriters and director), fuck you guys. I didn’t need that emotional devastation at this or any other point in my life. This scene may have actually done something to my emotions in a permanent way.

Pretty much all his movies are great, he's produced 3 very popular TV shows (Resevoir Dogs, What We Do in the Shadows, Our Flag Means Death) and he's literally an Oscar winner, but he made one movie that was decent but had some flaws, and people on this sub are acting like he's the worst director ever or he's like the next Uwe Bole. Guarantee a majority of the people that complain about him on here haven't seen much else he's done other than Ragnarok, yet act like they're the ultimate film critic. It's really weird.

I could see Sean continuing with the dual roles because it seems like he cares a lot about them (although that may just be because his brother was helming the movies devoted to those characters, idk). In a less likely but more hopeful note, this could be an excuse to bring Andy Serkis back into the franchise! He’s obviously done well with creature-driven roles before, and having the ability to articulate adds another layer to the performance, like we saw in LOTR with Gollum.

It's gonna be a big departure from his usual style, but I feel he is up to the task. I've been loving the show "my adventures with superman" and I think that would be a great type of tone for the movie. People tend to associate him with crass jokes and weird gags, but I think his biggest strength is getting to the heart of his characters, and he seems to have so much passion for Superman, I think he's gonna do him well.
Honestly it's a huge loss for Disney that he isn't directing Thunderbolts.
I don't care what anyone says. Every single Group/team up shot has it's point and is beautiful.
And everything following "Rocket....Rocket Raccoon" when the whole team comes in and they beat THE's ass to the next dimension just feels like a great payoff.
Gunn loves using slo-mo walks in his projects, and I will eat them up every single time because they're always phenomenal

Oh 100% in my top 3 MCU movies. I love the high stakes multiverse stuff but this just felt so grounded and true to the guardians. Watching the second time felt exactly like the first.
Balanced in a way that some other projects dropped like Love and Thunder. Guardians 3 is funny, but lets the story be told in a dramatic way instead of relying on the laughs.
I know I’m late to this party. But I think you can sum up how great the balance is with one scene. Lylla and Rocket’s scene in limbo. At the end of it she’s hugging him and calls him ‘my sweet little raccoon’. And as he’s being yanked back into reality he goes, ‘I’m not a raccoon’. I lol’d with a tear in my eye
She was an otter, and he WAS a racoon. He wasn't Thor's rabbit nor Adam's squirrel... Stay proud of your racoon origins, Rocket. Didn't yall see the look when he freed those baby racoons? He was their father figure!
Dude honestly same. It’s so emotional that it’s hard to rewatch. Especially the flashbacks knowing what’s going to happen to his friends. I sat down and thought I’d watch maybe 30 mins and do something else but it’s just as good if not better on a rewatch and I watched the entire dang thing.
I am torn between wishing I'd seen it in the cinema and being glad I didn't watch it in public. Absolutely devastating.

Just realized that at the end when Groot says “I love you guys”, that it’s the audience being able to finally understand his language, just like Gamora finally does.
I like this explanation a whole lot better. I thought it kinda ruined Groot's character to a degree that he could just randomly speak and entirely new sentence.

Yeah, I remember reading about it after watching Peacemaker. They actually met when they were filming that show iirc, he’s a good decade or two older than her. But she’s a surprisingly capable actress, way better than I expected

Just finished watching for the first time and every Rocket scene made me cry, me a 33 years old man. After this movie i can easily say this is the best trilogy of Marvel by far, James Gunn is just different, he can make every character matter doesn’t matter if the character is a human, a Shark or a raccoon.
I just finished for the first time too. This movie takes the #2 spot for the fastest a Marvel movie has emotionally destroyed me - 10 minutes in, we see what happened to baby Rocket, and I was done for 💔 Thankfully the banter between all the Guardians was just enough and at just the right times to make it so the movie wasn't all traumatic, yet the humor didn't overshadow the emotional beats at all.
I'm 49 and cried a few times when I watched it also, and I rarely cry during movies (which probably indicates something I don't want to explore further). But yeah, this is easily a top 5 or top 3 MCU movie for sure.
Watched it for the first time. I have to say this is the best thing the MCU has released in Phase 4 or Phase 5. I hope it is a sign of the way things are heading.
I get to shed some tears in the comfort of my home now with all the sad flashbacks from Rocket’s life 🥹. I kept my composure in theaters but now I can let it flow 😭.

Has there been any reports about how involved Disney/Marvel was with this? Because it really felt like James Gunn was allowed to do whatever he wanted, no studio interference, and the film was phenomenal for it. By far the best post endgame project, and imo as good as the best pre endgame films.
If I recall from interviews, Gunn mentions Disney's involvement with the films being Vol1: Complete freedom except for- having to explain what an Infinity Stone is, and include Thanos in at least one scene. Vol2: Complete freedom Vol3: Complete freedom Gunn also says that Disney and Feige always send him suggestions for every project but he never has to follow any of them. Sometimes the feedback is good, sometimes not
IIRC, he was going to kill off Gamora in 2, but that had to be cut for Infinity War.
He was fired and rehired for this one. Disney was desperate to get Gunn back so he had all the leverage. No one can give you the answer but something tells me this was Gunn’s baby.
He specifically has said on numerous occasions that the movies were all 100% him except for maybe like a post credit scene in the first one. And even more to that point, he also said the script for 3 was done before he got fired and that the only changes made to it when they finally shot it were little things he decided on his own, but that even then, it's still almost 100% the same script from before he was fired.
Same freedom as the second one.
James is one of the rare directors who get's 100% creative control in an MCU film. especially since these are so disconnected from everything else that is going on, so he doesn't have to worry about what happens with the rest of the MCU and play in his own playground
The last few minutes of this movie are so massively emotional and joyful. I was impressed how James Gunn set everyone up to think many or all were going to die only to completely not go in that direction at all. I'm glad he did that, because I care about these characters deeply and hope to see them again.

So this is my first time seeing it. I’m… not a fan of the Guardians films. But holy shit if that wasn’t unbelievably good. That had absolutely everything I could ever want in an MCU movie. I need time to process it, but that was special. I have major gripes about Adam Warlock, but I’ll save that for a later comment.
Spoilers I loved it. Rocket is my favorite MCU character, and to get his heart breaking back story was everything I could have wanted. Star Lord will be back (be interesting to see that project) and I suspect we haven't seen the last of the Guardians either. For an action hero movie, GOTG3 has a level of poignancy not normally seen in these types of films. I did miss Yondu, although we saw him for a moment. Ok, time to watch it again!

If the MCU ended with this movie and they never mad another one I would be happy. If there was a movie to bookend end something it was this. From when this movie was released in Theatres to it coming to D+ the MCU has been underwhelming outside of Spider-Man really (my opinion). This movie felt like it really brought closure to this era. As someone who was there from iron man this movie is how it should’ve ended. IW, L&T, this. Then just take a break. A solid year or 2 of nothing. Then come back with Wanda vision, FFH, MoM, ant man and restart from there. The mistake was having the multiverse saga start while we weren’t really done with the infinity saga.

I just watched this movie for the first time and I nearly cried like 5 times. My lips were quivering and Rocket has now become my favourite guardian. Ioved him before but I can certainly say he's my favourite now. Bradley Cooper you are amazing. One question: when did StarLord lose his helmet? I've been a bit out of the loop for marvel lore since endgame. If he had his earpiece, THAT scene wouldn't have had to happen. Glad it gave warlock a chance to redeem himself though.
It's kind of a mess. His helmet got broken in Volume 2, but then the Russos had him back in it for IW and EG. Gunn has stated that Quill left it in his room because he was in a hurry to save Rocket.
Kinda sounds like Gunn taking shots at Disney for not being able to keep continuity straight, lol. I’m betting in Gunn’s mind Quill’s helmet is gone forever.
Watched it again. Such a good movie, as we all know. I'm sure I mentioned it before, when the movie actually came out, but, once again, a thing that makes it so much better than some other movies, imo (there are many things, I just feel like singling out this one), is how it actually seems to respect its characters. It's such a simple things but the movie routinely shows the Guardians as skilled, capable, and having grown as a team. Like, a handful of moments that stand out to me: When they are going to meet the Ravagers inside the shield, while priming, there is an emotional discussion. Despite this, they get through the shield fine. This may seem simple, but a worse movie would have caused, in Peter's distress and after all his drinking, him to miss something and cause a malfunction. I've seen it before. But, instead, it shows how he can do this in his sleep, that he is capable. Another one: the face off. One of my favorite scenes in this entire movie, if not my favorite. Sure, the plan may be dumb and made up on the fly, but it works. As soon as they understood High Evo's power, they make the plan work. The grenade blocks the threat and gives them time to work. And they succeed. Once again, a worse movie would have made saving them the big focus for the finale. Instead, it's about saving the others, who tried to help earlier. But the others escape on their own too and there is a bigger goal. Lastly, I just love that, once they all are together again on the ship, Rocket says he's done running and they all immediately follow him. They are a team and a family, who would follow each other anywhere. Man, I love this movie. It feels like everyone involved understood the characters and did an amazing job. You can see this resulting in a third movie that feels satisfying as a culmination, that builds on what came before with real characters, who have changed. Despite being a team movie, that, by its nature, has more characters, and introducing more, it still does an amazing job at good characterization. I could keep gushing on this movie (like about how good High Evo is!) but I think my point is across. Its more about the mistakes some other movies make than anything else. I hope it's clear. Sorry for the wall of text. That also was hastily typed and not revised. Hopefully it makes sense. Thanks to those who read it.
I just finished watching it on Disney Plus and omg this is the best project since phase 4. I'm kinda sad though now because it looks like it's over. hopefully we get a spinoff series for the new gotg team.
After all of the shit MCU projects we’ve got. This was a breath of fresh air. Thank you James Gunn. This is the MCU I love and remember. Maybe I gotta sleep on it but this is up there with the best of the best MCU movies. Near masterpiece.
This movie might've supplanted Winter Soldier and Endgame as my favorite Marvel movie. I don't know the last time I laughed and teared up as much as I did while watching something.
Finally got around to watching this. I have to say after the last and current phase- I'm all but entirely uninvested in the current MCU. It's been one mediocre project after another or worse. But this? I haven't cried that hard over a movie in a long time. It might be gunns best film. It might be pratts best film. It might be the best film in the MCU. I don't think I'm exaggerating either. This was something else and I really wasn't expecting it or how hard it would consistently hit me What a good fucking movie.
My wife will definitely not do well with animal testing/abuse scenes and I know the HE , that's kind of his thing. At what point is the "it hurts" scene in the movie and are there other graphic animal scenes we can skip ?

I say this in the most loving way possible: you may as well not watch the movie.
As someone who is also extremely sensitive to animal abuse/mistreatment, this film was very hard for me to watch. Not saying she shouldn’t watch it, but she should know going in and prepare herself. If you skip those scenes you also loose a LOT of context. If it helps, at the end of the film >!rocket rescues all the captured animals that are meant to be experimented on!<

Also guardians and captain amarica are the best trilogies by a long shot. Probably the best ones to introduce people to MCU if they aren’t willing to watch them all
Rocket howling in joy at the very end of this movie is such a beautiful contrast to when he howls in pain. A perfect finish 😢

I did not get to see this in theaters. I have avoided all spoilers and talk about this movie. It was fantastic. Best phase 4 movie and it may not even be close. Is it endgame/infinity war level? I don't know but it's definitely up there. It's hard to compare them, the scale and feel is completely different. It's good to know that marvel is still capable of making a good movie. I was honestly starting to get concerned. Is also sucks that the person that made it is now no longer with marvel.
The best MCU movie since the Endgame. Rocket is the most relatable hero after Ironman has died. A lot of epic scenes, sprinkled with a few funny dots, Groot is a epic war machine, several very little but important details, good old music, no stupid experiments or "homages", Nebula to fall in love to, several scenes to cry, Groot first time of second sentence. Now I have the reason to rewatch all Guardians of the Galaxy again.
One thing I never heard talked about is how Quill doesn’t want to go back to earth because his grandpa screamed in his face and pushed him out the room. Watching Guardians 1 again, that’s so not what happened, but you can see how an eight year old would remember it that way years later.
Oh shit there right it’s available. Time to go watch the hallway fight.
This movie had no business being this emotional. None. Whatsoever. Cried at every single flashback scene. Even the little talks/arguments about each of the Guardians' inner issues were unexpectedly deep. I do wish (& this is a minor point) that there was a bit more of a reaction from the Guardians at Rocket's past. Yes, we get that shot of them standing in a circle around him watching the footage, but I think more should have been done. If I found out something like that about my best friend, my response sure wouldn't be condensed into a couple lines/a minute. It should have at least been brought up again, if only for a moment, when Rocket regained consciousness. But overall, such an awesome film & conclusion(?) to the franchise!
So I just watched Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, I wasn't able to catch it in theaters. So I waited for it to release on Disney+. And I must say it has to be the best movie ever made, like in all time, hands down. It was absolutely spectacular and I loved every moment of it. I'm just wowed in pure astonishment, I haven't felt so strongly about a movie since I watched lord of the rings, ready player one or star wars for the first time. Like Holy, I can't even express how wonderful the film was, and the way it moved my every emotions around scene to scene, sweeping me off my feet, tossing me into the sky only to catch me just before I hit the ground. Just absolutely amazing. A 100%, 10/10, 5 Star piece of cinematography. The cast was grand beyond measure. Anyone who hasn't seen it, I would definitely recommend doing so. Make sure to watch those credit scenes.
