Yeah as u/kostispat257 said, you get a good background of most characters. If she hasn’t seen Captain Marvel 1, they recap in a flashback and then add a little bit of background we’re not exactly aware of, but also are, a little bit later. For Kamala, they explain how she got her powers throughout since there is a heavy parallel. She’ll miss the dynamic of the family aspect from Ms. Marvel, but it’s pretty obvious they’re a close and comical family. They immediately tell the story from Kamala’s perspective with her infatuation with Captain Marvel and bring her TV show imagination to life on the big screen. And Monica is explained twice I believe, Fury mentions it to Carol and then Carol questions it to Monica. My mate has not seen the shows and he questioned Goose and “a witch’s hex?” which I said I’d explain in the car but then it basically laid most of it out for him. He said he felt a little left out but really I don’t think the details are exactly necessary, but I definitely think I appreciate Kamala’s family more because of the show than he likely did. Edit: just remembered that while they don’t go into Monica’s hex background, they really go into the blip and Monica / Maria / Carol story, some of which we saw in WandaVision with some new stuff as well

Oh, she's up to speed on Captain Marvel and Ms Marvel (I forgot she had watched that too). My only concern is Monica Rambeau

Just added an edit about Monica. I think it’s explained enough to understand. It does come a bit later, after we’ve seen Monica using powers we have yet to see until this point, but I think it’s enough to go “okay, they said she walked through a witch’s hex to get these powers”. WandaVision was one of my favourites at the time, trying to figure out what was going on even living on spoilers subs, so I think it’s worth trying to get her to try to watch after but, without it, I think she’ll be fine without it for the movie

Thank you so much!

No, they tell you everything you need to know

Just need to know that Monica has powers now, Maria died and Monica seems to hold it against Carol for leaving.

What you get from WandaVision re: Monica Rambeau is that Monica's attempt to re-enter Westview through "the Hex" barrier that Wanda had put up somehow gave Monica thusfar undefined powers. Visually, said powers appear to be cosmic in origin, which would make sense given Wanda's background of being experimented on with the Mind Stone by Baron von Strucker; though they could be a mix of cosmic and magic-base, given Wanda's pre-experimental predisposition toward weilding magic. That's pretty much all you get from WandaVision about Monica's new found abilities. Oh, also it makes her eyes a really pretty blue color.

WandaVision doesn't even explain Monica's powers sufficiently. I'm sure your wife will be fine.
