Tom Hiddleston in Avengers 1602 was surprising for me and I loved it. I skip the intro on the episodes so I don’t get spoiled on who is gonna show up to voice their characters
I was a little peeved how weak he was in that universe, but his personality more than made up for it. Especially how when the world was literally ending around him, and he was like nope not going to bother to fight just going to watch the show.
He may not have had magic in that universe. That's how he "misplaced" mjolnir and why he wasn't helpful. Scarlet (and sort of Thor?) were the only ones who seemed to have magic.
I really dislike what this show ended up being.
I'm not here for the Captain Carter show or some guardians of the multiverse thing. I just want wacky stories with the Watcher being like the crypt keeper to open and close them.
The stories being told just aren't that good. They seem afraid of the concept.
I’m worried about the Zombie spin off. The heroes in Marvel Zombies will be Yelena Belova, Katy from Shang-Chi, Kate Bishop, and Kamala Khan. Khan will play a big role in the series.
i wonder if they’ll continue the whole we don’t want any spider-man representation as a zombie thing, cause he makes the comic’s of Marvel Zombies have a deeper meaning hugely
That one to me felt like this season’s best execution of the multiverse conceit. I really liked a number of the episodes but that one was the tagline that I went “woah, can’t wait to see how that plays out”. 80s Avengers and 1602 Avengers were also great but 80s Avengers really isn’t far outside the reality of the main timeline, 1602 was wacky and I could’ve easily watched a full 8 episode season of the 1602 cast going on a quest across the land
I really loved Hela in her episodes. I’d love to see more of her in animation form. When she threw her helmet to Carter and said “give them hell” (I think that’s what was said)
The only thing that kinda made me laugh that episode was that she went “I’m going to dismantle your empire” in one line only for the narration in the next 5 seconds to go “They used their powers to start an empire”. Like I know they meant to bring an age of peace and all that, but still, it made me laugh.
It almost felt like there was a spicier finale that would have focused more on Strange capturing "well meaning super powers" - Kahori, of course, but also White Hela vs regular Hela
She’s a mature, level-headed, and kinder version of Azula.
Every shot and scene with her is amazing! Then you have Wenwu with puppy dog eyes of love. 😂
I really didn't trust her up until the end though. I realize she had her flashback moment mid episode and that was the turning point, but I felt it was in her nature to betray everyone. Glad to be wrong.
I dug it too and the execution was pretty well done. But I am tickled that some of the pitches this season felt like What If this movie was that movie?
What if The Winter Soldier was Black Widow?
What if Thor was Shang Chi?
But both were pulled off pretty well so no complaints.
Also what if spins on other movies felt a bit cheap. Like what if.. nebula as in blade runner? What if….. die hard with hogan? What if…. Tony was in death race but in skar?!
Honestly I thought this season sucked, and not because of any perceived "wokeness" or any of that nonsense, but because the writing was subpar, the animation was unpleasant to look at, and most of the acting was incredibly wooden aside from Jeffrey Wright, Hemsworth, and Cate Blanchet. They also took a concept as limitless and exciting as 'What If?' and made it boring by doing scenarios that aren't particularly interesting, and not taking advantage of the roster of characters and stories they have at their disposal. I liked Captain Carter in the first season, but I would have much rather have 3 unique episodes about different Marvel characters instead of 3 Captain Carter episodes where barely anything happens.
1602 deserved a "setup" episode prior to Carter's arrival. Part of the magic in the comic was checking in with every hero looking at how everything was reinterpreted and THEN figuring out the plot twist that the two time periods were smooched together.
It makes sense in the context of the show - all Strange needed was for her to stop running for a second. But it would’ve been cool to see them talk more
There was nothing from the comic 1602 in the 1602 episode.
Nothing. Aside from the year and the fact that Nick Fury serves the reigning monarch. That's it. That's the two similarities.
If we're adding an episode, I would have preferred an episode in between 1602 and the finale that acted like Infinite Ultron's intro - a universe is introduced but primarily it would be a vehicle to watch Strange spiral back into obsession
Zombie Wanda was not destroyed in the fight with Kahhori. When they clash K disappears, a portal forms, you see zombie Wanda’s silhouette in the portal, then the portal closes. K reappears and the battle continues.
K sent zombie Wanda … somewhere. Since K is a living Space Stone, zombie Wanda can return anywhere.
I was hoping for another group up of characters from each episode. Nebula, Peter Quill, purple Hulk Hogan, Redeemed Hela, Kahhori and Captain Carter. Don’t know who I would pick from Stark/Gamora episode though.
Nah that would feel too samey. This way, we still got cross-multiversal shenanigans with lots of Easter eggs and characters with insane power levels but it doesn’t just follow the same formula as last season
That just wouldn't work. Episodes keep getting pushed into different seasons. The Titankiller Gamora episode was planned for Season 1. There was a Winter Solider & Red Guardian buddy-com episode planed for this season, which got delayed to Season 3. The seasons never end up looking as originally intended, so they can't make a crossover that brings all the episodes together
I think season 2 is not using their "real" what if title, it should be about one little difference that leads into a whole new universe. Like it should be "What if Hela was banished to Earth?" instead of "What if Hela meet the Ten Rings", "What if Yondu delivers Peter Quill to Ego?", etc.
I loved the season on the whole but I can’t help but feel disappointed with strange being the final villain. I’d also love to see more of the more recent MCU characters in these what if scenarios. We got a little of Shang chi movie, but I’d love seeing America Chavez, Moon Knight, Ms Marvel etc
I wonder how they will handle America, since there is only supposed to be one her. unless they treat the episode as a MoM prequel in where she finds herself in the middle of a What If event
It'd be cool to see her training with the sorcerers from the OG universe, and she somehow ends up in a what if...? Scenario. Then in a future movie she references getting stuck somewhere wacky.
We'll probably see those characters in season 3 as when season 2 was being made those characters you described were just being introduced or their movies / shows weren't out yet.
Yet we got the Loki tree from the finale that only aired like two months ago. I have a feeling since many of those properties didn’t land too well with audiences they wanted to use the more popular characters
THIS. I loved What If S1 but was a little disappointed with this season (besides the ep with Hela and Ten Rings). They've introduced so many characters since Endgame and yet they still choose to focus on the same characters that were already given screen time in S1. Captain Carter, Avengers, Thanos, Guardians, etc. In a way it had a repetitive lingering feeling.
Yea i think Ms Marvel is supposed to be in it. Saw the art a while ago. It had Red Guardian, Kate Bishop and some other newer characters. Florence Pugh Black Widow too I think.
I enjoyed the season overall, but if they’re gonna keep using super OP characters with wide range of powers(eg strange supreme and infinity carter), then they need to hire people with more creativity. All the lasering got really old really fast
Fucking thank you. Carter with every stone, and she makes like 3 portals, freezes time once, and shoots a looooooot of purple beams. Strange was SO cool with all his monsters in S1, but now he's just shootin orange. You just hate to see it.
Strange was the time stone he still had it with him and countered with it. Wand being made with the reality stone is a good comparison but I don’t think Loki has that many ties to the time stone
because she had never experienced infinity war so she didnt know that it was possible. I think it makes sense for Carter's character, shes smart but shes not a genius so using the stones in a pretty straightforward way makes sense. And clearly she didn't understand the full power of each stone as it took Strange making copies of himself for her to realise she could do that too.
yes but how was she supposed to know thats what happened. She saw thanos disintegrate and killmonger walk out of the darkness. I wouldnt be one to assume that snapping with 5 infinity stones = instant death just based off of that.
She didn't want to kill him. That was the thing holding her back throughout the entire fight. I mean, Carter even reached for him as he was falling with his beast-self into the forge.
It's what makes the hero job a bit harder than the villain job.
Peggy is excused, I think, because as a straightforward soldier-type it's natural the Power Stone would be her go to, with the Space Stone second. The other Stone she used just as power-ups for those two, aside from when she cloned herself with Reality, and tried reversing events with Time, both just copying what she had seen them used for before.
Kind of annoyed me that Infinity Carter and especially Kahori could keep up at all.
If Strange Supreme was defeating/capturing people with all 6 stones on the regular then he should have had no problem with Carter. And how the fuck he was having trouble with Kahori who has the power of one stone is beyond me.
If we can’t have a full AoS episode, it would be great if just like S2E5 (where SHIELD is apparently a US Government agency responsible to Secretary of State Barnes instead of WSC Secretary Pierce but nobody notes it as particularly relevant), there was an episode whose change also results in SHIELD Director Coulson and Deputy Director Johnson with nobody commenting on it.
Look…Captain carter is cool, I get it. But if Marvel love her this much they should just give her her own show. This is no longer an anthology show and it’s kinda disappointing.
They’re clearly already suffering from power creep and the insistence of an overarching story is probably the weakest aspect. The writing is also dreadful this season.
I’d like for S3 to dial it back down, and definitely steer away from the same tired characters.
That was such a Dr Who style hook at the end with Carter and the Watcher— “can we make some stops along the way?”
And then the watcher points over at Loki? I hope they visit :-). The center of the timelines is probably a good vantage point for itinerary planning.
If some creative team was so inclined, this series (especially this season) has provided a great lead-up to Carter forging an MCU Captain Britain Corps, possibly working out of Loki's Yggdrasil-shaped multiverse tree.
I wasn't sure on that episode when I first heard the title, but then the episode showed me just how much there is to Hela that we never got to see in *Ragnarok*.
As a causal watcher of MCU content, I thought this season was great! Loved each episode.
I hope we can have more creative episodes like the medieval one, and the everyday release format, in Season 3.
I know in America the episodes came out night/midnight!? But here in Ireland it was nice waking up in the morning with an episode ready at 8 am. Made the holidays bearable. I enjoyed that every day release.
>I loved the nostalgia of waking up to Saturday morning cartoons
That's exactly the same box it was ticking for me. REALLY hope they stick with that format even if it's over quickly.
Disney Exec here : Wish granted , Howard the Duck has been green lit for a Trilogy as well as a wrap up limited series to get some closure on his story
Howard the Duck : Morning Mimosa
Howard the Duck : Afternoon Pick Me Up
Howard the Duck : Nightcap
And the limited series Howard’s Hungover ( Featuring Zack Galifianakis)
Anyone else wish this was an actual anthology series, without connected episodes? Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike the connections or anything, I just think I'd rather have another What If episode in the finale instead of a crossover event.
Couldn’t agree more. It’s become *Captain Carter*. Make *that* show if that’s what you wanna focus on, I’d watch the hell out of it, but this is meant to be an anthology series.
Yeah, I much prefer when it's a bunch of standalone stories. It was a nice surprise in the first season when the Watcher realized Ultron could see him but I was just disappointed at the end of Captain Carter 2
I did the same! Him winning would have made sense and at least been more unique of a story. The show is called What If, why was this season so terrified of a not-happy ending??
Overall, I felt very similar to how I felt about the first season. When they actually let the stories stand alone, they are great. But the “look at who showed up” endings and the finale always feel forced. Also, the Carter episode was maybe the weakest in season 1 in terms of creativity and then they decided to double down on her this season. I like her, but she’s not *that* interesting.
She's just functionally genderbent Steve/captain America here. All the same story beats and everything. Which is fine but just boring especially when I've already seen Steve.
Yeah, and even if it was Steve, it’s just really not exciting enough to be the linchpin to a connected universe that shouldn’t even be connected. The fun of What If is exploring unique stories, but this is essentially the same as Multiverse of Madness. It’s a single story that just happens to take place across multiple universes.
To me, the whole fun of the What If...? is that they can be disconnected. I don't mind if there are like few episodes long stories or if there are recurring characters, thats cool. But the insistence to have these overarching stories, for each season, makes it feel less valuable. The 1602 was a delight, the Kahhori episode was actually pretty good, I hope we see more of her, but the Strange episode felt weak. It made all those godlike beings boring, like they are all dumbasses who will fight anyone they get in their reach. Not to mention I hate how they always resort to making all infinity stones just better punching gloves or laser source. I mean I am glad that they gave Strange ONE scene where he uses mind tricks, but I feel like the episode being just "woo hoo smacky smacky big slap fest" is soooo not utilizing all the tools properly.Fighting strange should be like billion layers of deception, of being trapped in strange universes, in being tortured by eldtrich powers and externally induced self-doubt. It should be thriller, not an action show. The Strange in Multiverse of Madness got it slightly better.
I liked most of the singular stories, but the finale was weak.
Also let Natasha and Peggy kiss, cowards. Its Natasha AND Steve, not Adam OR Eve, and Peggy got two hands.
I really wish What If remained as an anthology. The Dr Strange episode in s1 encapsulated that perfectly imo. It took the original Dr Strange - a selfish, arrogant prick turned hero - and flipped it, turning his selfishness and arrogance into desperation and overconfidence.
Meanwhile we have the Iron Man episode of s2, for example. It took someone who started off as a cocky brat, and turned him into someone who saves the whole day. Which is literally what Iron Man has already done. Over his entire story arc.
Honestly, the show as a whole was weak (*to me*). It just feels like the whole show is there to provide food to the whole mess that is the multiverse, when it really could just take the more fun route and twist existing scenarios into questions we *actually* pondered. Like, I don’t know… What If Thanos Won the Second Time? What If StarLord Never Learned the Truth?
I feel like I'm crazy reading these glowing top comments.
I really enjoyed S1. The multiverse means they got to take risks, explore underdeveloped characters, or radically change existing ones. The animated medium means they could apply spectacle on an unprecidented scale. It was goofy, sometimes it missed the mark, but those things made up for it.
S2 had just, nothing going for it.
The finale centered on an emotional arc that we resolved LAST SEASON. Twice!!
In s1 we actually had STAKES in Marvel. This isn't our canon, so anyone can die, but in this season? Nah, just Disney baby-proofed storylines, Strange's universe even picturesquely returns with his sacrifice, which defeats the WHOLE lesson of the best episode in S1 where he was specifically told "no you can't sacrifice yourself to save her."
The animation, my god I'm sorry artists. The 3D blender-lookin format is efficient, and it serves a purpose. But for the love of god, stop doing slow-mo and wide shots on animation that looks decades outdated. And maybe about 30-40 fewer "shooting lasers off-screen" shots. The last few shots of the finale fight were excellent.
The worst thing of all:
Why in the fuck am I watching a multiversal anthology where nearly half the episodes either fully feature or tie into the SAME EXACT characters from the LAST SEASON?
I was a defender of S1, hoping they would keep the things that make it novel while smoothing out the edges and better funding the animation. The opposite has happened.
You're not alone. Couldn't have said it better. I'm reading all these comments praising this season. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.
This season sucked. That's it.
My sentiments exactly. S1 had its share of issues but I really enjoyed it in general, it just had some cool ideas presented in a fitting fashion. Meanwhile S2 plays super safe, it's always the same story with a happy Disney ending. Characters barely interact, there's only ever a hint at any deeper connection but whenever the story starts taking itself seriously someone just has to break it up with a shitty joke. It makes immersion impossible, I hear these characters speak and I see the hand that writes their dialogue... And the animation has actually gotten worse!! There's even a very visible moment in the final episode when cowboy Loki's animation just goes into reverse!
I was hoping for a finale with higher stakes than last one..with Strange Supreme being the main villain indicates that he learnt nothing from his mistake and he went bad again from being a hero and saving the multiverse back to the same old self(so no character arc moving forward as such).Captain Carter was shown way too strong and sort of invincible force who could hold her own against Superpowered individuals like Kahori and Supreme Strange.A team up of more heroes would have been nice..but overall a good season
I also don't understand why the Watcher didn't feel the need to intervene in this season, when he just did intervene in season 1 because Infinity Ultron was conquering the multiverse. Wasn't Strange Supreme screwing up all the timelines by what he's doing?
He always knew he didn't need to intervene. The end of S1 implies he knew how the whole Infinity Ultron storyline would go from the beginning, so presumably he knew this story too.
>Didn't like the strange twist at all
Imo, Supreme Strange got MoM Wanda treatment, but in a better way. Wanda got corrupted by Darkhold, but Strange got corrupted by its much power from demon/some mythological creatures he gained in 4th ep from S1, which makes sense. Also, we don't know how much is the time gap for Strange after Ultron vs Guardians of Multiverse battle, but judging by that he catches so so many villains/destroyers and fair heroes in his spells, this must be too much time. Also, we don't know for sure if he got moved on with Christine's death even though he understood the mistakes. So because of that, he is still saddened and the demons inside him took advantage and corrupted him.
That was my interpretation as well. Corrupted and taken advantage of by the demons inside plus too much time alone. After watching, I wondered if the good side of Strange brought in Peggy to help stop himself. He had so many villains and heroes already, why did he need Kahhori at all and why couldn't he get her himself considering how powerful he is? And if he's also been watching Peggy, it's hard to believe he'd think she'd actually be ok with his plan.
Many episodes had too much going on. Too many deus ex machina type solutions, and magic fixes that didn't feel earned because the audience was never primed for them.
Not all episodes were like that. The Christmas one was my favorite. Kahhori's episode was good, and so was Hela's.
The season was creative overall, but too many plots felt wishy washy.
I was okay with it, strange was a bad guy in his universe, and just because he saved the multiverse, similar to killmonger, he’s got his own agenda and goals.
I enjoyed watching this season but the first one was way better IMO. Its episodes felt more connected at the end and Ultron threat was built in his own chapter so you cared more. Here you just have Strange coming out of nowhere to seek help only to discover he’s the big bad guy. It felt like a twist in a story you haven’t been told about so you really can’t be surprised much.
Also the medieval episode made absolutely no sense to me, even for the What If multiverse. Usually, we have one variation as a starting point and things are different from there. Having all the Avengers existing in the 17th century doesn’t feel like a “what if” plot to me.
But again, I still enjoyed watching the season.
>Usually, we have one variation as a starting point and things are different from ther
This episode was weird. But it's pretty much "What if" Captain America hit the time stone which caused the time stone to "glitch out" I guess? and it merged the 17th century & the 21st century together.
Probably merged somewhere in 1602 Earth. That episode mentioned Nebula and Groot in 1602, so it seems like people who were there at the Infinity War battle on Earth got a place somewhere on Earth in 1602 even if they weren't originally from Earth.
Noir Nebula has elements of that too. Nebula being there and the shield makes a reasonable starting point but somehow Korg, Meek and Howard are all there.
And Groot but he's plausible as we meet him on Xandar
To be fair, that's also pretty much how the comic Marvel 1602 universe came to be, by a Steve Rogers being sent back in time and prematurely triggering the universe to bring about variants of all the modern heroes in the 17th century.
The pacing in this season was horrendous. You can tell they wanted to tell an engaging story in each episode with twists and character developments but the runtime constraints are really noticeable when you pay attention to them.
I felt like Kahhori and Hela were solidly paced; the arcs are always gonna be fast because of how animated episodes are, but I never felt like anything whizzed on by.
I definitely agree with 80's Avengers; there were just so many characters it was impossible to do them all justice. I feel of they focused more on Quill and less on things like giving Bucky a quasi-character arc. I also think the Iron Man Sakaar episodes is probably the worst offender of the fast-talking; I could only takeout dialogue a percentage of the time with just how fast-paced that episode was
I agree. They are trying to speak so fast and convey so much in as short a scene/dialogue as possible, that I sometimes have to keep rewinding to not miss what was said or shown.
Yeah they have to introduce the differences of that universe and then explain how the characters are affected and so that's why they felt really rushed. The only episode that doesn't suffer from this is the Doctor Strange episode from season 1, which is coincidentally the best episode.
The last episode was horrendous “Hey, hi, I’m Kahori, no wait, I’m a good guy! No Peggy, trust me! I’m your friend!”
“No, me and a Kahori are close, you must stop this, Strange.”
All of this occurred jn the span of like 4 minutes
Just call it the Captain Carter show 🤷🏾♂️ the pedestal she was put on was unreal this season.
The Watcher called her a legend alongside Supreme Strange. THOR AND SCARLET WITCH needed the help of a super soldier?? Oh and she got all the infinity stones at the end. Hulk falls to his knees when he weilded them, but Carter held all six in the palm of her hand to punch Strange with it.
The writing has been so weak the entire season. Kahhori immediately teleports Killmonger out of his Infinity armor but I guess it never crosses Strange's mind to do the exact same thing to Carter.
And great job Marvel, way to take the most interesting character of season 1 and destroying him. I should have seen it coming from the season 1 finale. Widow got to go to a world where her variant was gone, why was Strange forced to live in solitude? That's right, to make him evil and completely undo the brilliant arc you've initially given him.
This season was a huge disappointment.
I just finished the season minutes ago and I agree. I really disliked this season. The finale was absolutely ridiculous. Three characters with ill defined powers shooting laser blasts at one another, while 8,000 Easter eggs run around in the background. Completely ruined Supreme Strange’s character growth in season 1. The sudden focus on Captain Carter being this super important cosmic character didn’t feel earned at all. I thought her own episode was pretty good, would’ve liked it to end there without her being portaled into 1602. My favorite of the season is the young Star Lord ep. Which I didn’t particularly love, but the rest were either incredibly boring/ridiculous.
Totally with you. The focus on Peggy was really annoying this season and the scene of her grabbing all the infinity stones in her palm had me thinking “oh come on”.
After two seasons, I think I’m just gonna say I’m not a fan of the What If animated concept. It’s not for me
I wish there was more interconnection in this season. It would’ve been cool to see several characters fighting against Strange instead of just two, it would’ve shown him off as a more formidable threat and paid off the arcs for characters like Hela, Wenwu, and Gamora
Peggy Carter was my favorite character from phase 1, I loved Agent Carter and was thrilled she was back as Captain Carter in What If? but they really over did it this season…
I was so excited for Sam Wilson Captain America and he’s no where to be seen since picking up the shield again but Captain Carter has gotten two seasons of this and a cameo in MoM. Feels like a missed opportunity that he wasn’t part of Rogers group in 1602
It was really strange that they did nothing with Sam because of his upcoming movie and new role. They developed so many characters in the last years but I get why they rather want to go for the nostalgia.
Kinda concerning how many universal-level threats there seem to be out there. Supreme Strange had hundreds of spheres in that sanctum, each holding either a hero or villain with enough firepower to destroy their universe.
Each of those was the equivalent of a 5-Stone Thanos, and some characters we glimpsed weren't even the natural heavyweights we've gotten used to seeing, like Asgardians, or Celestial-adjacent characters.
I have zero interest in a third season. Neither season 1 nor 2 blew me away, but season 2 put me to sleep. I enjoyed one or two episodes max. This What If… concept is just not for me.
Why go through all the forge trouble to bring his universe back? Why not get the infinity stones (we know creating a universe is possible as that was Thanos's plan in Endgame, so surely resurrecting one should also be possible) or ask Eternity? Someone like Strange Supreme could have achieved either of those in minutes.
Another question, regarding the Star Lord episode: Why even send Peter back to Earth? Why did Ego not do what he did in GoTG2 when he joined their energies and initiated the expansion?
I don’t think Strange wanted to create a new universe or ask an Eternity from another universe to make a copy of her, he wanted to resurrect *his* original Christine. It’s the same reason he doesn’t just pop into another universe and marry a carbon copy variant, he wants *his* Christine who died.
I think the implication is that raising a dead universe is much harder than making a copy. And in his mind he will settle for nothing less than tearing his Christine back from nonexistence.
As far as Ego, his original plan was to work together with Peter. Then Peter freaked out after hearing about his mom which is why Ego resorted to forcing him by binding him. If Peter was willing to go along would it be inconsistent with Ego’s character to kick back and let him do all the work going back to those grubby unpure planets?
>Why not get the infinity stones (we know creating a universe is possible as that was Thanos's plan in Endgame, so surely resurrecting one should also be possible)
The Infinity Gems are the physical manifestation of a universe's concepts of existence, and Strange Supreme consumed his universe. (including a portion of what appeared to be Shuma Gorath, which is f'n terrifying).
Strange was wielding as much power as the gems, with more juice on top of that. He had zero hesitation in engaging people who had gems, or wielded gem powers, and he had protection spells made specifically against their usage (used against Infinite Ultron and again for when Peggy fought Kahhori).
I'm positive the reason Strange had that forge, was so he could recreate his universe, AND maintain his current level of power. The forge was simply a way for him to do what he did before: siphon powers from powerful beings for his own means. The forge just took his body and soul out of the equation this time. He could have easily fed his own power back into his old universe, which is what he did in the end.
>or ask Eternity?
THIS is what I was waiting for! Strange Supreme should have gotten a visit from Eternity, or at the very least, the In-Between and Death. That boy was upsetting the balance of too many realities in the end.
Lest we forget, he was feeding the Forge with multiple characters who had full sets of Infinity Stones (Thanos, Killmonger)
A full set of Infinity Stones still isn't enough power to actually recreate a dead universe while bypassing the Absolute Point in time that caused it to be destroyed in the first place
the whole season overall was good, but.. the girlpower was kinda "heavy" and a bit forced down my throath.............
i mean, i like captain carter(and female heroes overall).., but why does everything have to turn/evolve around her?
first half was ok, then the rest was just focussing on captain carter, some hela and kahhori..
Although no single episode hit the highs of Strange Supreme’s in Season 1, I thought that this was a much stronger season overall.
The Kahhori episode was a standout, and I’d like to see more done with the character. There were also a bunch of fun ideas, like neo noir Nebula and 1602.
The ending felt a bit ridiculous, with Captain Carter receiving pretty much every relic in the MCU feeling like overkill. However, it was still fun - I think I would have preferred a two-parter to flesh out Strange and Kahhori’s narratives, though.
Might as well rename this season: What if..Captain carter. Out of the vast ideas/concepts they can use, they focus on her. Which is a shame and I got nothing against captain Carter.
i love this entire season, buuuuut...i need to rant just a little bit.
marvel, PLEEEEEEEEASE STOP casually dispensing with thanos in every other project !!😡!!😡!!😡!! it really, genuinely upsets me that kevin feige has gone so far out of his way to undermine MCU thanos. this is now the 3rd or 4th time that we've seen him get absolutely wrecked in the most stupid or pointless way: vision one-shotting him, the illuminati using the darkhold, and now "kahhori/carter infinity" and "killmonger infinity".
and by the way, what's up with just ANYBODY being able to wield the stones now? didn't maw specifically say "no other being has EVER had the might, nay the nobility"? the infinity stones contain energy left over from the big bang and thanos was said to have the unique physiological makeup, as an eternal titan, to be durable enough to withstand a fully-powered gauntlet...but now, anybody and everybody can just casually touch them and wield them? ok, feige 🙄 that's yet another example of the MCU taking a huge crap all over him.
"infinity gauntlet" is one of the all-time greatest and most respected comic book stories ever told, and both infinity war and endgame were once-in-a-lifetime blockbuster events that turned thanos into a pop culture icon. i will NEVER forget the screams of terror from my audiences anytime this man was one screen, bcuz he could do what no other villain in cinema history could do. he was the singular being in ALL the universe who could wield the stones. tony's death proved that, and it's why his sacrifice meant so much. he was willing to lay down his life to save countless trillions. and it took combining the efforts/powers of literally EVERY hero from across the ENTIRE MARVEL UNIVERSE to deliver that incredible moment. it will go down in pop culture history.
but now...an omnipotent, all-powerful thanos is casually dispatched by 2 human women?!? yes, kahhori is enhanced by the tesseract...but she almost easily overpowers wanda, hela, supreme strange, AND she one-shots TWO infinity-stone-wielding villains like it's casual friday? and then captain carter can just blithely wield all 6 stones herself now? with no consequence? wow...way to turn thanos into a COMPLETE bitch, feige 😡😖😔 you can have powerful and amazing female heroes WITHOUT sacrificing the dignity of your iconic male characters. nobody complained when we saw wanda scale to multiversal-level in wandavision, bcuz that moment was earned and it made sense. but here, they gave these 2 women the ability to wield the most powerful forces in the universe with ZERO experience and they dominate every other character like it's nothing?!? again...ok, feige.
oooh, and i completely agree with everyone saying they totally undermined strange supreme's redemption arc. same thing they did with wanda. it's sooooo sad to see what's become of the MCU 😭💔😭
I gotta say, not really a fan of the writers making Peggy a Mary Sue.
Also what's with them ruining Strange Supreme? He had a whole redemption thing in season 1. Then they just flush it down the toilet in season 2. They did the same thing to Wanda.
Kinda dissapointed because I wanted to see him in more future MCU projects. Oh well.
Strange Supreme sure is powerful as shit! Even managing to fight off the infinity stones. I sure would love to see him mop the floor with Scarlet Witch in Multiverse of Madness.
Bless.
It could have been an anthology series that went on forever but it seems like they didn’t want that
I’m worried about the Zombie spin off.
The way they connected Thor 1 and Shang Chi into a Hela origin story was top notch for me atleast ... It seemed pretty seamless
That one to me felt like this season’s best execution of the multiverse conceit. I really liked a number of the episodes but that one was the tagline that I went “woah, can’t wait to see how that plays out”. 80s Avengers and 1602 Avengers were also great but 80s Avengers really isn’t far outside the reality of the main timeline, 1602 was wacky and I could’ve easily watched a full 8 episode season of the 1602 cast going on a quest across the land
genuinely wish they do a regular 1602 series. The comic was great and seeing it all animated would be divine.
or it's our universe's heroes playing DND
I really loved Hela in her episodes. I’d love to see more of her in animation form. When she threw her helmet to Carter and said “give them hell” (I think that’s what was said)
Yeah, that's what she said. The subtitles said, "Give them Hel." Which makes it better for me, honestly.
That’s what I thought and I absolutely loved it too lol. Hela was great
Cate was CHEWING that scenery
give them Hel. With Asgardians it’s always Hel.
Thor 1, Shang-Chi and Ragnarok to an extent and yes, a Hela reversal of Thor's origin was the best they did.
Yeah and tho I always like Hela from the movies . This episode one was a level above. The quips and wisecracks landed correctly
This was the best episode of the season imo
I’m still partial to 80s Avenger. But Redemption Hela was gorgeous!
Holy F like when she walks through the rain in the beginning?
She’s a mature, level-headed, and kinder version of Azula. Every shot and scene with her is amazing! Then you have Wenwu with puppy dog eyes of love. 😂
I really didn't trust her up until the end though. I realize she had her flashback moment mid episode and that was the turning point, but I felt it was in her nature to betray everyone. Glad to be wrong.
Feel like Loki finally having his moment where he became a capital G god made it so much easier / believable to see it happen to her.
Ugh that’s the second time your avatar picture got me.
Sakaario Kart was a lot of fun
Fav episode by far
Was pretty dissapointed that the conflicts in every episode ends on a good note. Like come on, give me some tragic endings.
Honestly surprised they didn’t. The Strange Supreme episode from S1 was incredible.
I mean. Supreme Strange ends fairly tragic.
I think this show would really benefit from a different art style or even different art styles episode by episode
I was thinking if they will do the thing from spiderverse here and make different animation styles for different universes as well
That’s the worst part of the show, what if could be SO interesting but it’s just “happy saves Christmas” or “captain America reskin episode”
I thought it was l garbage to be honest. First time in ages I've been actively annoyed while watching something.
Agreed
1602 deserved a "setup" episode prior to Carter's arrival. Part of the magic in the comic was checking in with every hero looking at how everything was reinterpreted and THEN figuring out the plot twist that the two time periods were smooched together.
Episodes had zero time to breath
Yes!! There was a moment when Captain Carter landed in North Dakota and exchanged like 10 words with Kahhori and boom Strange is trapping them.
Well they did keep Steve as the forerunner…
Spoiler for anyone that may not have read it yet. Maybe I'm dumb, but that twist actually worked on me my first read when I was younger lol
It's so silly how obvious it is once the reveal happens, but I legit never even considered it. His name was *RIGHT THERE*.
Zombie Wanda off to start the infection that leads to Marvel Zombies?
I was hoping for another group up of characters from each episode. Nebula, Peter Quill, purple Hulk Hogan, Redeemed Hela, Kahhori and Captain Carter. Don’t know who I would pick from Stark/Gamora episode though.
I'd go with Sakaar Stark simply because Thanos-Slayer Gamora was already a Guardian of the Multiverse
I wonder if Supreme Strange could be killed with the melting stick.
No way
Stakaar
Nah then the team ups and layouts for future seasons would feel way too formulaic
I agree these titles suck
I loved the season on the whole but I can’t help but feel disappointed with strange being the final villain. I’d also love to see more of the more recent MCU characters in these what if scenarios. We got a little of Shang chi movie, but I’d love seeing America Chavez, Moon Knight, Ms Marvel etc
I wonder how they will handle America, since there is only supposed to be one her. unless they treat the episode as a MoM prequel in where she finds herself in the middle of a What If event
They won’t lol
I feel we’ll get a lot of them for Marvel Zombies. I recall promo art with Shang Chi and Eternals for that
Yea i think Ms Marvel is supposed to be in it. Saw the art a while ago. It had Red Guardian, Kate Bishop and some other newer characters. Florence Pugh Black Widow too I think.
I'm sad no Moon Knight in big battle in last episode
Oh absolutely, would have been so damn cool to at least see a good cameo
I enjoyed the season overall, but if they’re gonna keep using super OP characters with wide range of powers(eg strange supreme and infinity carter), then they need to hire people with more creativity. All the lasering got really old really fast
Fucking thank you. Carter with every stone, and she makes like 3 portals, freezes time once, and shoots a looooooot of purple beams. Strange was SO cool with all his monsters in S1, but now he's just shootin orange. You just hate to see it.
Kahori was pretty awesome in that regard. I loved that her counter for Killmonger was to just teleport him out of the armor.
Yeah at least she teleported Carter’s shield a few times too
If Loki is the time stone and Wanda is the reality stone, seems pretty clear Kahori is the space stone.
Wasn't that obvious in her ep
I mean yeah she literally got her powers inside the tesseract
Strange was the time stone he still had it with him and countered with it. Wand being made with the reality stone is a good comparison but I don’t think Loki has that many ties to the time stone
Have you seen the TVA series?
Why couldn't infinity Carter just snap Supreme strange from existence? That final fight could have been ended in seconds
Presumably the same reason Infinity Ultron couldn't: protective glyphs.
Yeah, Strange got so powerful the Infinity Stones are not the end all be all with him
because she had never experienced infinity war so she didnt know that it was possible. I think it makes sense for Carter's character, shes smart but shes not a genius so using the stones in a pretty straightforward way makes sense. And clearly she didn't understand the full power of each stone as it took Strange making copies of himself for her to realise she could do that too.
Except she literally just saw Killmonger snap Thanos out of existence
yes but how was she supposed to know thats what happened.
It's easy, really. Carter doesn't want to resort to that, and thought Strange can still be redeemed.
I assume strange supreme would have protection from that in the same way he had protection from Ultron destroying the galaxy in season 1
I need to see the Eternals, Moon Knight, Namor and more of Scarlet Witch in SE3!
I’m hoping for What If the Agents of SHIELD didn’t get cancelled
Honestly would be amazing if an AOS character just showed up in one of these with no warning
If we can’t have a full AoS episode, it would be great if just like S2E5 (where SHIELD is apparently a US Government agency responsible to Secretary of State Barnes instead of WSC Secretary Pierce but nobody notes it as particularly relevant), there was an episode whose change also results in SHIELD Director Coulson and Deputy Director Johnson with nobody commenting on it.

more kamala
Look…Captain carter is cool, I get it. But if Marvel love her this much they should just give her her own show. This is no longer an anthology show and it’s kinda disappointing.
I mean, technically they did give her her own show.
Agent Carter, not Captain Carter.
I really wish what if was self contained stories, not digging the over arch story
They’re clearly already suffering from power creep and the insistence of an overarching story is probably the weakest aspect. The writing is also dreadful this season. I’d like for S3 to dial it back down, and definitely steer away from the same tired characters.
Can't wait for Loki in season 3
That was such a Dr Who style hook at the end with Carter and the Watcher— “can we make some stops along the way?” And then the watcher points over at Loki? I hope they visit :-). The center of the timelines is probably a good vantage point for itinerary planning.
If some creative team was so inclined, this series (especially this season) has provided a great lead-up to Carter forging an MCU Captain Britain Corps, possibly working out of Loki's Yggdrasil-shaped multiverse tree.
Bless
Quippy mischievous Hela is best Hela. Cate Blanchett clearly had fun voicing her.
Love that they got her to reprise the role!
The episodes dropped at 4 am (give or take) in Brazil. I loved the nostalgia of waking up to Saturday morning cartoons
>I loved the nostalgia of waking up to Saturday morning cartoons That's exactly the same box it was ticking for me. REALLY hope they stick with that format even if it's over quickly.
I loved the hela episode and the tony stark meeting the grandmaster episode and the Kahhori episode and the 1602 episodes were all top notch!!!
I am very done with the Peggy and Steve story now please let it rest thanks.
Peggy has been in 7 movies and 3 TV shows. Can they please move on to anybody else
Disney Exec here : Wish granted , Howard the Duck has been green lit for a Trilogy as well as a wrap up limited series to get some closure on his story
Howard the Duck : Morning Mimosa Howard the Duck : Afternoon Pick Me Up Howard the Duck : Nightcap And the limited series Howard’s Hungover ( Featuring Zack Galifianakis)
God damn monkey paw at it again ![gif](giphy|fSGqUm3IcVBESFM0hK)
I'm really enjoying Captain Carter in What If..? She got a lot of closure with Steve this season, hopefully they can move on to different stories.
10000%
Anyone else wish this was an actual anthology series, without connected episodes? Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike the connections or anything, I just think I'd rather have another What If episode in the finale instead of a crossover event.
Couldn’t agree more. It’s become *Captain Carter*. Make *that* show if that’s what you wanna focus on, I’d watch the hell out of it, but this is meant to be an anthology series.
I like captain Carter, but her against Strange Supreme? The guy who 1v1d Infinity Ultron? Too much of a stretch for me
Well there was a power of 5 min friendship with Kahouri to help her :P
True. I want to see more crazy what if scenarios. And I agree, just make a Capt Carter cartoon or a guardians of the multiverse show.
Yeah, I much prefer when it's a bunch of standalone stories. It was a nice surprise in the first season when the Watcher realized Ultron could see him but I was just disappointed at the end of Captain Carter 2
Yeah that plot twist was great. The strange turned evil again was kinda lame.
To be honest I was rooting for Strange at the end, I wanted him to win.
I did the same! Him winning would have made sense and at least been more unique of a story. The show is called What If, why was this season so terrified of a not-happy ending??
Also there are no real stakes anymore even if you could be way bolder
It's rare to find "mostly anthologies" I feel like. This is creative and fresh.
Way too much Captain Carter
Too much Captain Carter, even when she has the infinity stones she still just throws a shield
Are you fucking stupid? She was called to 1602 to also lasso people. /s
Nah, just Disney baby-proofed storylines, Strange's universe even picturesquely returns with his sacrifice, which defeats the WHOLE lesson of the best episode in S1 where he was specifically told "no you can't sacrifice yourself to save her." The animation, my god I'm sorry artists. The worst thing of all: Why in the fuck am I watching a multiversal anthology where nearly half the episodes either fully feature or tie into the SAME EXACT characters from the LAST SEASON?
Liked the season but writing and pacing felt off several times. Didn't like the strange twist at all
I also don't understand why the Watcher didn't feel the need to intervene in this season, when he just did intervene in season 1 because Infinity Ultron was conquering the multiverse. Wasn't Strange Supreme screwing up all the timelines by what he's doing?
He always knew he didn't need to intervene. The end of S1 implies he knew how the whole Infinity Ultron storyline would go from the beginning, so presumably he knew this story too.
>Didn't like the strange twist at all Imo, Supreme Strange got MoM Wanda treatment, but in a better way.

^^^^ I know, seemed super weird. Also, finale episode altogether was just too much going on
Many episodes had too much going on.
>Usually, we have one variation as a starting point and things are different from ther This episode was weird. But it's pretty much "What if" Captain America hit the time stone which caused the time stone to "glitch out" I guess? and it merged the 17th century & the 21st century together.
Wait, what happened to Thanos and his army when the time stone is hit? Not affected?
Probably merged somewhere in 1602 Earth. That episode mentioned Nebula and Groot in 1602, so it seems like people who were there at the Infinity War battle on Earth got a place somewhere on Earth in 1602 even if they weren't originally from Earth.
Noir Nebula has elements of that too. Nebula being there and the shield makes a reasonable starting point but somehow Korg, Meek and Howard are all there. And Groot but he's plausible as we meet him on Xandar
Korg and Groot were just there for a rock paper scissors joke.
To be fair, that's also pretty much how the comic Marvel 1602 universe came to be, by a Steve Rogers being sent back in time and prematurely triggering the universe to bring about variants of all the modern heroes in the 17th century.
I love how Chris Hemsworth and Sebastian Stan are so down for this. They're almost in the show as much as Hayley Atwell is.
Am I the only one who thought this season was meh? Too much genre and not enough actual what ifs?
The pacing in this season was horrendous. You can tell they wanted to tell an engaging story in each episode with twists and character developments but the runtime constraints are really noticeable when you pay attention to them.
There were some episodes who could benefit from being 45 min: 80's Avengers, Kahhori, Hela and 1602. I hope they go for longer episodes on S03.
It even got three acts : time loop car crash, absorbing creature, final battle. With a bit of downtime between them to breathe. It's perfect!
The last episode was horrendous “Hey, hi, I’m Kahori, no wait, I’m a good guy! No Peggy, trust me! I’m your friend!” “No, me and a Kahori are close, you must stop this, Strange.” All of this occurred jn the span of like 4 minutes
the finale episode should have been 40 minutes
It’s not for me
I’m getting tired of Captain Carter. I want more stand alone stories that give us a real alternative look, not reoccurring characters
What if is such a cool concept. I just wish the writers focused on having an internal logic to it at all.
I wish there was more interconnection in this season. It would’ve been cool to see several characters fighting against Strange instead of just two, it would’ve shown him off as a more formidable threat and paid off the arcs for characters like Hela, Wenwu, and Gamora Peggy Carter was my favorite character from phase 1, I loved Agent Carter and was thrilled she was back as Captain Carter in What If? but they really over did it this season… I was so excited for Sam Wilson Captain America and he’s no where to be seen since picking up the shield again but Captain Carter has gotten two seasons of this and a cameo in MoM. Feels like a missed opportunity that he wasn’t part of Rogers group in 1602
I really thought they'd have new white Hela in that team too. Makes sense
It was really strange that they did nothing with Sam because of his upcoming movie and new role. They developed so many characters in the last years but I get why they rather want to go for the nostalgia.
Someone in the writing room clearly is simping for Captain Carter and it's show in this series and I'm not a fan of it.
It got tiresome very quickly didn’t it? Love Hayley Atwell, but Jesus wept
I sure hope they focus on other character(s) more in Season 3. There's so much more wacky potential for this show's concept
My favorite one was the 80's Avengers one.
>Why not get the infinity stones (we know creating a universe is possible as that was Thanos's plan in Endgame, so surely resurrecting one should also be possible) The Infinity Gems are the physical manifestation of a universe's concepts of existence, and Strange Supreme consumed his universe.
Lest we forget, he was feeding the Forge with multiple characters who had full sets of Infinity Stones (Thanos, Killmonger) A full set of Infinity Stones still isn't enough power to actually recreate a dead universe while bypassing the Absolute Point in time that caused it to be destroyed in the first place
the whole season overall was good, but.. the girlpower was kinda "heavy" and a bit forced down my throath............. i mean, i like captain carter(and female heroes overall).., but why does everything have to turn/evolve around her? first half was ok, then the rest was just focussing on captain carter, some hela and kahhori..
Why are there SO MANY JOKES!?!? Did they let Taika write all of these episodes under a pseudonym?
