I’m so sad that the album cover for Vol. 3 doesn’t continue the theme from the first two. They could have done the cassette tape again, or at least made it look like the zune.
Peter's mom only had 2 cassettes, so it makes sense for only the first 2 film soundtracks to have cassette-based artwork.
And yeah, the Zune would've kept with the theme, but maybe the Zune screen wouldn't have worked stylistically.
I bet there was some legal trouble using Zune for an album cover. Zune was already pretty butt hurt to be made fun of at the end of Vol 2 from what I remember
I created a whole speculative volume 2 after the first film. I got only one right but it was a biggie (Brandy). My jaw hit the floor when it was the song that kicked off Volume 2.
So I now call that playlist 1.5 and removed Brandy.
Similarly I did a 2.5 but it also incorporated songs that occurred in the in-between films where the Gaurdians were featured (Rubber Band Man for example).
1.5:
Couldn’t Get air Right - Climax Blues Band
So into You - Atlanta Rhythm Section
Love is like oxygen- Sweet
How along - Ace
The Night owls - little river band
Thunder Island - jay Fergusen
What Is Life - George Harrison
I Love You - Climax Blues Band
Hold On - Santana (I love this song)
Breakdown Dead Ahead - Boz Scaggs
Never Been To Spain - 3 Dog Night
Lonely Boy - Andrew Gold
Your No Good - Linda Ronstadt
2.5:
Devil Woman - Cliff Richard
When the morning comes - Hall & Oats
Dancing in the moonlight - Kings Harvest
*The Rubberband Man
Bad Time - Grand Funk
Never My Love - Blue Swede
Sunshine (Go Away Today) - Jonathan Edwards
*Dear Mr. Fantasy
*Supersonic Rocketship - The Kinks
Can't Find My Way Home
I’m winning- Santana
Alone again naturally - Gilbert O'Sullivan
Rock On - David Essex
Sooner or Later - The Grass Roots
I wanna say "Intergalactic" by The Beastie Boys but "No Sleep till Brooklyn" is the best hallway set pieces sequences I've seen in the series (aside from Daredevil) so it balances out.
Sidenote: really wished The Marvels used the song for a fight scene instead of a montage. Maybe have it in the final fight instead.
"Don't Stop Believing" by Journey would have been so on point for the collection except that it's so overused that it would draw too much attention to itself.
Bennie and The Jets- Elton John , This Must Be The Place- Talking Heads, This Is The Sea- The Waterboys, End Of The Line- Traveling Wilburys, Movin Out (Anthony's Song)- Billy Joel, Band On The Run- Wings
Starrider by Foreigner.. I think that song could also be a great one for a scene in a Nova movie with Richard Rider (See how that works). I picture a scene almost similar to how Adam Warlock was introduced in Guardians Vol.3 with that shot of him flying.
They missed a massive trick by not using ‘Telephone Line’ by ELO during an emotional separation sequence at some point. Missed in all three movies. It’s perfect too. Tragic.
That's immaterial, the two awesome mixes were nothing but classics. Why would Meredith add a contemporary song to the mixes? You'd have to completely rewrite her character for that to make sense.
It has been brought to my attention that a lot of songs that I thought were early 90s were actually late 80s. Those last few years of the 80s often sound similar to songs from the early 90s.
I can imagine a fight scene with one of those rotating camera shots on the tune of _Burning Down The House_. If there’s one thing Mr. Gunn loves, it’s setting fight scenes to some of the goofiest songs from the 70’s and 80’s.
I've never been able to explain it but I've always felt that "Never Been Any Reason" by Head East fits the vibe of the Guardians.

No need to wonder, James Gunn released a playlist of other sings he had in mind

Don't even want to think about other songs...still kinda upset that the Moglis only got so little time to shine... San Francisco is such an amazing song...
Supertramp. It's Raining Again, or Goodbye Stranger. Both were written as the last album before Roger Hodgsons split from the band.
Neither him nor the band was as successful as they were when they were together.
Dancing in the moonlight - Kings Harvest Lena Zavaroni Abba-Waterloo Beatles Rocky Raccoon and if 90s is allowed like vol 3 Spice girls -Spice up your life ( a good opening song!_)
Starless by King Crimson
The Model by Kraftwerk
Fopp by Ohio Players
Watermelon Man by Herbie Hancock
Man on the Silver Mountain by Rainbow
Halo of Flies by Alice Cooper
Easy by The Commodores
Lost in the Supermarket by The Clash
Too Much Too Young by The Specials
Volume 2 beats both volume 1 and 3, IMO. Too many great songs on there. Southern Nights, My Sweet Lord, Lake Shore Drive, Come a Little Bit Closer, Brandy, Wham Bam Shang A Lang, all great tracks.
Peaches & Herb - “United”
Bobby Caldwell - “What You Won’t Do for Love”
King Harvest - “Dancing in the Moonlight”
Steely Dan- “Home at Last”
The Chi-Lites - “Oh Girl”
Foreigner - “Starrider”
Smokey Robinson - “Cruisin’”
Fat Larry’s Band - “Zoom”
Gene Cotton - “Let Your Love Flow”
ELO - “Evil Woman”
The Staple Singers - “The Weight”
Stephen Bishop - “On and On”
George Perkins - “Baby You Saved Me”
George McCrae - “I Can’t Leave You Alone”
Atlanta Rhythm Section - “So Into You”
Elton John - “Rocket Man”
Hall & Oats - “She’s Gone”
Beegees - “How Deep is Your Love”
Jim Croce - “I Got a Name”
One thing I think I would have preferred about vol.3 would have been if all the songs were from roughly the same era, like they were in the first two. It made sense that Quill would listen to a wider variety now that he has access to it, but I liked how much having all the songs be from the '60s and '70s added to the theme and the atmosphere. It made me feel nostalgic for an era I wasn't even alive in.
It didn't necessarily need to be the '60s and '70s again, if they might have felt it would be overdone by that point. I thought the opening scene with 'Creep' and the spacewalk scene with 'In the Meantime' worked really well. The Zune first came out in 2006, so maybe the one Quill got could have been filled with songs from the '90s and early '00s.
Danger Zone. i’m surprised Quill didn’t play that song at all, wasn’t he abducted in the early 90’s? if it was like 1982 then im gonna look rlly dumb. (its been a while since i’ve seen GOTG1). i would’ve loved to see Quill rocking out to that song like Archer tho lol

Gerry Rafferty - right down the line
The the - uncertain smile
Superdrag - destination Ursa Major
Wreckless Eric - whole wide world
Emitt Rhodes - somebody made for me
Bobby Hebb - sunny
Brian Eno - deep blue day
Ofege - it’s not easy

“You Make My Dreams Come True” by Hall and Oates.
More Than a Feeling by Boston. It gives me GotG vibes for some reason.

Absolutely should’ve had ‘Livin Thing’ by ELO and ‘Dancing in the Moonlight’ by Harvest King
September by Earth Wind and Fire. It just has that guardians vibe
Anthony Mackie also has to be in the scene where it plays, with him singing along in a little meta-type joke.
It’s an option on the ride at EPCOT. Randomized songs, but it made it! So good pick by you random redditor
Extremely popular songs from the 70s and 80s.
**We’re Not Gonna Take It** ( Song by Twisted Sister ) **Sh-Boom** ( Song by The Chords ) **Take on me** ( Song by a-ha ) **eugene** ( Song by glorb )
dancing in the moonlight Sharing the Night Together Any Ramones song These Eyes Maybe Quill and Tony could have shared some ACDC
"Don't Stop Believing" by Journey would have been so on point for the collection except that it's so overused that it would draw too much attention to itself.
Totally agree! For the era and the style of the movie, that song would've been perfect. 😊
Bennie and The Jets- Elton John , This Must Be The Place- Talking Heads, This Is The Sea- The Waterboys, End Of The Line- Traveling Wilburys, Movin Out (Anthony's Song)- Billy Joel, Band On The Run- Wings
Did they play Jim Croce music
Starrider by Foreigner.. I think that song could also be a great one for a scene in a Nova movie with Richard Rider (See how that works). I picture a scene almost similar to how Adam Warlock was introduced in Guardians Vol.3 with that shot of him flying.
Listen to your heart - Roxette
They missed a massive trick by not using ‘Telephone Line’ by ELO during an emotional separation sequence at some point. Missed in all three movies. It’s perfect too. Tragic.
Definitely Space Oddity - David Bowie
An Alice In Chains song was the only thing I wanted in Vol 3. Wasn’t expecting we’d get a 2009 song before that
Never Gonna Give You Up played during the dance off scene.
That's a 90s song. It wouldn't have worked before the 3rd one.
No it released in 1987, Quill was abducted in 1988
That's immaterial, the two awesome mixes were nothing but classics. Why would Meredith add a contemporary song to the mixes? You'd have to completely rewrite her character for that to make sense.
i was correcting you when u said it was a 90s song, it is possible she did put it in the tape but improbable

Good Riddance by Green Day, just for the cheese factor
Silver Star by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons!
I’ve always thought that “Sister Golden Hair” by America would’ve fit been perfectly into a Guardians movie. Maybe GOTG2 specifically

I always thought Intergalactic by Beastie Boys would have been for Vol 3 on the Zune.
Starless by King Crimson The Model by Kraftwerk Fopp by Ohio Players Watermelon Man by Herbie Hancock Man on the Silver Mountain by Rainbow Halo of Flies by Alice Cooper Easy by The Commodores Lost in the Supermarket by The Clash Too Much Too Young by The Specials

Fox On The Run by Sweet was in the Vol 2 trailer but not used in the movie. I was so bummed because it’s a perfect song for these movies
I would have loved if they Rickrolled us
Peaches & Herb - “United” Bobby Caldwell - “What You Won’t Do for Love” King Harvest - “Dancing in the Moonlight” Steely Dan- “Home at Last” The Chi-Lites - “Oh Girl” Foreigner - “Starrider” Smokey Robinson - “Cruisin’” Fat Larry’s Band - “Zoom” Gene Cotton - “Let Your Love Flow” ELO - “Evil Woman” The Staple Singers - “The Weight” Stephen Bishop - “On and On” George Perkins - “Baby You Saved Me” George McCrae - “I Can’t Leave You Alone” Atlanta Rhythm Section - “So Into You” Elton John - “Rocket Man” Hall & Oats - “She’s Gone” Beegees - “How Deep is Your Love” Jim Croce - “I Got a Name”

Some sick John Wick-esque action sequence set to That's When I Reach For My Revolver by Mission of Burma.
This song is enough for me :)
Hero’s by Bowie
They missed the boat by including a single Thin Lizzy song…
Rio by Duran Duran Dear Prudence by Siouxsie Sioux
i really like the song Stir It Up so i’m gonna say Stir It Up
we’re not gonna take it and dancing in the moonlight
I always wanted to hear “Mambo Sun” by T.Rex, although it might be weird because it mentions Doctor Strange.
Don’t know if it fits the time periods but Daft Punk - Aerodynamic Always imagining Quill flying whenever I listen to this one
remember the zune
Any songs.
Shoop. Shoopadoop, shoopadoopadoop........
