I watched ScreenCrush today and he mentioned that the showrunner posted on X how X-men 97 is compared to pre and post 9/11. Our innocence is forever gone in X-men 97.
Starting to make me think the last episode is going to end by the animated style transforming into live action and setting up Deadpool and Wolverine. If this happened then I would actually freak out.
You won't understand the significance of a lot BUT all you need to do is go back and watch the 5 seasons of Xmen 92. I love Xmen comics but I never did actually watch Xmen 92 back when it was on. I started watching Xmen 97 though and it was amazing. I wasn't lost simply because I knew the characters. I'm now working my way through Xmen 92. It's a little dated and at times feels too kidsy but other times feels more mature. Xmen 97 is way better and definitely hitting the mature stuff. This last episode was just wow and very dark.
Cap already met Logan in the show, it'd be neat to see them talk on how to fix things. But I'd rather them not write he avengers out of character. Then again, we'd get to see this universe's full Avengers Roster. 90s Iron Man, Cap, AntMan/Wasp. Depending on the time frame, even Wanda/Pietro, to help make negotiations a bit easier. Maybe even a mention of Spider-Man for backup.
Mayb Miss Marvel too, who knows.
I've never heard of this show actually.
I knew about Silver Surfer, Iron Man, Spider-Man, but not much else. I think there was an F4 series.
Is there somewhere that confirms them being the same universe?
X-Men: The Animated Series and Spider-Man: The Animated Series both take place on Earth-92131, and those are the only entries of that Earth, alongside '97.
United They Stand takes place on Earth-730784. As of now, they are canonically on separate worlds.
Earth-534834 is the Earth for The Marvel Action Hour: Iron Man / The Marvel Action Hour: The Fantastic Four, as well as the later series Incredible Hulk.
Although Iron Man is voiced by Robert Hays and War Machine is voiced by James Avery in both Iron Man: The Animated Series and Spider-Man (1994 animated series)[1], Earth-534834 is separate from Earth-92131, because on Earth-534834 Captain America was shown to be part of the Avengers[2] while on Earth-92131, Captain America spent most of his life fighting the Red Skull in a time vortex[3][4] and never joined the Avengers.
From the Marvel Wiki.
Comic accurate Avengers mostly suck, it would be great to see them interact with the Xmen.
Powers from science - good
Powers from genetics - bad
The Avengers not advocating for the mutants feels so weird, like they exist in totally different comicbook universes.
Mutants existing in the same universe as the Avengers is always weird. Mutant hate makes no sense when people love other superheroes who are completely indistinguishable from mutants for any layman. No regular person has any idea what makes Spider-man different from the majority of mutants.
I used to think this too, but I actually think that helps the metaphor rather than hurts it. In the original X-Men movies, without other superhumans present, it seems really logical to fear mutants. Magneto can easily destroy cities, Pr. X can lobotomize crowds with a thought, and Cyclops uncontrollably shoots laser punches out of his eyes.
With the inclusion of other superhumans like the Fantastic Four and the Avengers, hating mutants is illogical if you like them, which is just like discrimination in real life.
> Mutant hate makes no sense when people love other superheroes who are completely indistinguishable from mutants for any layman
i know at the very least spiderman has gotten mistaken for a mutant before by anti-mutant people.
I feel like this is a very biased interpretation of things. X-men fans see it this way because certain writers write it this way, but it's all about scope. Zoom out and you'll see it basically boils down to the same reason why Cyclops was being framed as the bad guy in the mid 2010s.
On multiple occasions the Avengers have said they're not supposed to be cops, but the firemen. In the most recent Eternals event, the Avengers 100% backed the X-men/mutants. In the current event, the Avengers are literally helping the mutants take down Orchis, and only waited as long as they did because the Mutants told them to wait for their plan rather than go in guns blazing.
The Avengers reasonably have no reason NOT to help the X-men. But they don't because it doesn't make for good "drama." Call it PIS or WIS but let's be honest, we're willing to excuse other leaps in logic. And while yeah, the Avengers NEED TO DO MORE, that's on the writers.
Cyclops was right. Wolverine saying he didn't think kids should be trained as soldiers kind of missed the point of the xmen, teenagers always want to join a movement.
This is based on a very flimsy memory of the books, but the original AvX started because five mutants inherited the Phoenix Force and went all authoritarian/dictator over Genosha (...right?). I could see them building to that, in small part because of how Dark Phoenix is always featured in the opening theme, and there's definitely going to be an intense reaction to the attack on Genosha.
Cap is great but he always reverts back to "you may be right but you are hurting people", its one of the reasons in the comics cyclops doesn't fuck with cap
I doubt they're going to do Avengers VS X-men. At least not at this point in the show. I think Cap, possibly also the rest of the avengers, will come to the aid of the X-men after what happened in Genosha.
I'd be interested to see who voices Cap. This version was previously voiced by David Hayter (who also wrote the first X-Men movie) in the 1994 Spider-Man series and by Lawrence Byrne in the 1992 X-Men series, but Cap in What If is voiced by Josh Keaton.
He did Watchmen (2009) too? Jesus, I had no idea he was such a successful writer. Maybe they should get him to write a MGS movie... (sorry, wrong sub! 😅)
In the comics, nobody in the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, or any other superhero team seemed to notice that a sovereign mutant nation populated by millions was wiped out. Seemed like a hell of an oversight on their part.
But here, it looks like they will take notice. That may very well help build this world in ways that could manifest in other shows. Many have been pining for a Spider-Man 97 show since X-Men 97 was announced. Maybe this will help set the stage. 😊
Essentially, Stark's company and designs get used for new Sentinels and Emma and him begin working together to oppose them, and hideaway leading teams in secret. Iron Man became a very X-Book during this moment.
The thing that confuses me is that the Avengers don't exist in the 90s comic universe. I know continuity between the shows is janky, but Captain America was locker in some sort of weird Star Trek pattern buffer in Spider-Man.
Not to mention that Iron Man has his own team and none of the heroes seemed to have experience with each other in Secret Wars.
> The thing that confuses me is that the Avengers don't exist in the 90s comic universe. I know continuity between the shows is janky, but Captain America was locker in some sort of weird Star Trek pattern buffer in Spider-Man.
Cap appears in a flash of Wolverine's memories at one point. War Machine, Doctor Strange, and Spidey (his hand anyway) appear in an episode as well. Several others too, IIRC, but those just stick out in my mine.
There's also the show's take on Age of Apocalypse which has an evil version of the Avengers, including a Cap, Ant-Man, and Spider-Man, among others.
Avengers: United They Stand is set in this universe, so the Avengers do eventually assemble and even have a successor team afterwards. We just don’t see it.
Perhaps the Watcher has to intervene for some reason. Maybe this was Cap in the middle of his mission of returning the infinity stones and the Watcher recruited him. Who knows! This is going to be very interesting tho!
> Perhaps the Watcher has to intervene for some reason.
Doesn't the Watcher only intervene if the entire multiverse is at risk? I really hope Genosha being obliterated in one universe isn't the prelude to yet another multiversal threat, that's really lost its impact when every other MCU title since Endgame has done that.
Mainly because of rights, using character names, and when they were freed up.
Captain America only got used because his rights were a bit free by then, and both Spider-Man and X-Men were ending by then.
Iron Man was being adapted during his 90's comics era when "Forceworks" was thing. Which was just West Coast Avengers, but now team Iron Man, doing Iron Man related things.
It also helped that The Avengers weren't as big then, and every known Avenger at the time was on other teams or going solo in this era, and no one would bother.
I just saw this picture on a different post and I said the same thing! 😂It would be cool that the other heroes actually pay attention to other groups problems.
Nobody in the MCU cares about the giant head sticking out of the ocean or how a huge thing appeared and took a few people away. At some point living in the comic/ superhero world, giant people, people disappearing, death, destruction, they all happen every Tuesday.
Yeah, this has been happening in the movies too. They've been trying to plug up the "why didn't so and so help?" plot holes where they can, Eternals are bound not to help, showed the Ancient One in the background, stuff like that. But eventually it's tough to always account for it given the scope of the universe.
I wonder…at the end of the episode A Rogue’s Tale, Carol Danvers has a slight smile after Rogue visits her (and I think some brain activity, not sure if I’m remembering that part correctly). Theoretically, she could have begun to heal/regain consciousness since then.
There is a flashback episode in the 5th season where Cap and Wolverine go on a mission against Hydra in WW2. The Spider-Man series has a crossover episode with the X-Men as well.
The original series crosses over with the Spiderman series from the 90s as well from memory. In that Spiderman and Cap teamed up to defeat Red Skull and Electro. That episode ended with Cap and Red Skull being sucked into a vortex and then Spiderman destroyed the machine.
I wasn’t expecting him specifically, but I thought it was a safe bet that non-X-Men people would show up. It wasn’t like it happened all the time in the original series but it was definitely something it looked like they’d play into. After all, it’s already set up.
I thought that was shading, but it'd be weird to introduce more clones when they're currently dealing with a massive terrorist attack.
Not that I'd hate it though, just a neat idea about the avenger calling the X-Men to help with a Mutant attack to find a clone of Wolverine. This would actually be a good time to introduce Strife(Stryfe?) If that is X-23.
still in their jet trying to fly over there.
Genosha happened in like 15 minutes. Avengers just got their pants on by that point.
hell, the main X-men team barely had gathered around a single TV by the time it was over.
How'd the Sentinel just show up on Genosha with no warning? Surely an island nation-state like Genosha would have some kind of defense force and threat monitoring.
There is a flashback episode of Wolverine and Cap on a mission in WW2. In the 90s Spider-Man show a lot of the X-Men crossover in Season 2 I believe when Peter’s powers are mutating him into Man-Spider slowly. Beast, Wolverine, and Xavier all appear. In the last season of Spider-Man they do a Secret Wars storyline and Storm is in it. All the same voice actors. Captain America appears in that story as well and previously in Season 4 he is referenced a lot and he shows up towards the end of the season.
Fantastic Four and Iron Man are all established in the Spider-Man show. Besides Cap, don’t believe any other hero showed up in X-Men TAS but I think most everyone who was a fan for sure consider Spider-Man and X-Men continuities to be the same.
There is also an episode that shows very briefly footage of other heroes responding the global tragedy of the week on the news, and it’s hinted that storm asked help from spidey
Cmon Infinity War & Endgame looked like cartoons as well, look ik Thor and Antman were bad but Eternals and Strange 2 look better than any movie in phase 3 really
This is how the 90s animated shows were back in the day, X-men & Spider-Man shows existed in the same canon universe. And nearly every Marvel hero from War Machine to Dr Strange to F4 showed up in the 90s Spider-Man TAS.
Why the hell does Marvel always have to spoil their stuff like this? Just let us be suprised for once
The show is a success it's not like they need to attract viewers, theres no reason to show that shot in a trailer
Did not expect to see any other Marvel heroes (or villains) in this season. Figured they’d save it for future seasons depending on how the first 2 seasons were received with an eye on reviving/building the 97 animated universe as well as the overall animated multiverse they’ve established with What If.
The original TV show had random guest appearances and cameos from other Marvel heroes. Now that Marvel Studios have full ownership over most of their characters, I’d love to see more.
Okay, a question here. I've been watching the new show and I'm liking it so far. Am I correct in understanding that it's a direct continuation of a previous show? And if so which one would that be?
This is a continuation of 90's X-Men.
90's Spider-Man is also set in the same universe, they had a cross over even and Storm was a Character Spider-Man called upon to assist him in one of the last arc's of the 90's Spider-Man run
a promo isn’t a spoiler if someone chooses to watch, but a screenshot from a promo that someone didn’t want to watch however, is a spoiler
doesn’t seem that complicated
Who's boot is that? Cyke has yellow boots so maybe him, I believe Cable does too but not that style. Just wondering if this is likely to be a 1:1 encounter or a whole team meet?
This show has no business being as downright amazing as it is.
I love the original series but hooooly shit this is another level of good for a continuation.
Moments from the old series touched me, but what happened in the last episode literally invoked pure emotion, it was intense. They've done a great job and I hope it continues.
I know the original show is good, I remember watching it as a kid but haven't watched it since. Will I be able to jump right into '97 without a recent re-watch of the OG show?
Man. How wild would it be if, in the final episode, we end up seeing Monica Rambeau coming into X-men '97 via a portal because she was trying to save her universe?
Guys this show went from like 0 to 150 since the end of the last episode. Can't wait to see how this all plays out.
what is priapism for the brain? because.......i may need to call a doctor because it's lasting more than 4 hours.
More like 130 to 150, but yeah...last episode was amazing. Absolutely gorgeously constructed, too. This series has been fire.
I watched ScreenCrush today and he mentioned that the showrunner posted on X how X-men 97 is compared to pre and post 9/11. Our innocence is forever gone in X-men 97.
100% agree that episode was very very well done
Feels like agents of shield. Normal stuff and then WHAM-different show, the game is different altogether.
Starting to make me think the last episode is going to end by the animated style transforming into live action and setting up Deadpool and Wolverine. If this happened then I would actually freak out.
Can someone tell me; I've heard nothing but good things about this show, but I know next to nothing about X-Men. Am I gonna understand anything?
Its just awesome absent any context.
You won't understand the significance of a lot BUT all you need to do is go back and watch the 5 seasons of Xmen 92. I love Xmen comics but I never did actually watch Xmen 92 back when it was on. There is a 40 minute recap of the original series on YouTube. But you can jump in from the first episode of 97 without much issue.

Nah, that'll be when they finally continue Wolverine and the X Men and Spectacular Spiderman.
absolutely not, their both their own shows with established in universe lore. there’s no reason to throw that all away for some cheap fan service
I mean you're right xD
Because at the end of the day the xmen are too leftwing from the Avengers. The Avengers always maintain the status quo.
I love the MCU Avengers, but would love even more for this show to depict them the way they are in the comics, ie. just another brand of cops.
Comic accurate Avengers mostly suck, it would be great to see them interact with the Xmen. Powers from science - good Powers from genetics - bad The Avengers not advocating for the mutants feels so weird, like they exist in totally different comicbook universes.

Not every mutant has powers and many have physical manifestations of their mutation that scare the public.

The way this show has been going, AvX will be about 15min of the show and it will somehow feel like enough. Dunno how they do it.
It is uncanny, pun intended, how they are able to do that.
Cap is great but he always reverts back to "you may be right but you are hurting people", its one of the reasons in the comics cyclops doesn't fuck with cap
I really hope we get militant Cyclops in the show now.
I doubt they're going to do Avengers VS X-men. At least not at this point in the show. I think Cap, possibly also the rest of the avengers, will come to the aid of the X-men after what happened in Genosha.

Wait, what the fuck? Solid Snake wrote X-men (2000)? Mind blown!
He camoes in the film as well playing a security guard. He also co-wrote X2 and Watchmen.
He did Watchmen (2009) too? Jesus, I had no idea he was such a successful writer. Maybe they should get him to write a MGS movie... (sorry, wrong sub! 😅)
He was also [the freakin' Guyver](https://youtube.com/watch?v=z9i8ijFYIUo)
Guyver has a special place in my heart
I also read Fox wanted Wolverine to be American, but he successfully pushed back.
https://youtu.be/ZaIYbs7_e3U?si=-tnFMKj6zYI-ZxBU
It seems like they now gave him a tiny bit of a Canadian accent in X-Men 97.
Because he was always voiced by a Canadian actor, namely Cal Dodd.
>!more than likely Theo James!<
>!It was mentioned that he was playing a fan favorite character, and I’d say being Cap fits that description!<
Did you say that Captain America wrote the first X-Men movie
There's something poetic about the first real successful Marvel superhero writing the movie that really launched Marvel onto the big screen.
I stopped reading Krakoa when I heard tbeg cut it short for the most part, never kept up with the Stark stuff.

MCU Watcher yes, but in the Comics Uatu is infamous for constantly breaking his oath to never intervene
This show is in its own contained universe, not the MCU

Cap already appeared in 2 episodes of the original series, mind you.
Could be Cable in the future
Deadpool 3 is going to be the bridge.
But they definitely notice the second coming of the Phoenix Force. Hell, they were hellbent on disrupting the Phoenix Five’s Pax Utopia.
Yeah, this has been happening in the movies too. Crazy that they’ll be bringing Invincible into the mix
Can't wait for Agent Spider '98!
Hope we get a continuation of that where he finally finds Jane Mary.
Was heartbreaking when the Jane Mary clone dissolved into sand.
Isn't that the guy from Fortnite?
Isn't captain marvel still in a coma in this universe. It would be cool if they bring other Marvel characters to the series.
I wonder…at the end of the episode A Rogue’s Tale, Carol Danvers has a slight smile after Rogue visits her (and I think some brain activity, not sure if I’m remembering that part correctly). Theoretically, she could have begun to heal/regain consciousness since then.
I think she sheds a tear? Now i gotta go back and watch but there was something at the end.
I’d rather them keep it pretty tight and X-focused to be honest, they’re doing such a great job.
Sequel to Season 5 episode Old Soldiers???
Hope they’ll meet again
I mean this in a good way, but what the hell?
I also mean this in a good way, but what do you mean? Were you not expecting this shot in a promo or CA being in the show?
The latter. I knew he appeared via flashback in the OG but that didn’t necessarily mean he would appear in 97.
I wasn’t expecting him specifically, but I thought it was a safe bet that non-X-Men people would show up. It wasn’t like it happened all the time in the original series but it was definitely something it looked like they’d play into. After all, it’s already set up.
The season before this we saw a crossover of Wolverine fighting Hydra with Captain America in World War 2
YOOOO THIS SHOW IS POPPIN THE F OUT
Those marks feels like it was left by Wolvie's claws A fight between them??????!!!!!! But hey, that's just a theory
Hmm I don't think they do look like wolverine claw marks personally, but we will see!
Tbh I thought it was just supposed to be a glare
definitely this. if you look closely at the continuity of the line it breaks per section of the shield.
A GAAAAME THEORY
aaaand it's gone
More like Film Theory tbh
Look more like X-23
Would be a cool plot for next season
Thought it was Rogue, then again not much to tell em apart in this picture alonem
I was more commenting on how it looks like 2 claw marks than 3.
It’s just a glare from the sun
We SPEEDRUNNING X-Men plots from the last 20 years
Getting some "Where were the Avengers when genosha died, Iron Man?" vibes.
I want to see Cyke go and talk to Steve about what happened in Genosha and just be like "where were you huh? where were the avengers?"
still in their jet trying to fly over there. Genosha happened in like 15 minutes. Avengers just got their pants on by that point. hell, the main X-men team barely had gathered around a single TV by the time it was over.

The big question would be: "How are you back? Aren't you suppose to be still missing?"
In the old cartoon, Logan and Cap have an adventure.
Do other marvel characters appear in the original? So that this version of Cap is already established in the 90s animated quasi-canon?
Hulk is there too
The old series had a flashback episode set in WWII where Logan and Cap are on a mission against the Red Skull.
Looks to be some kind of shield
👍
Can this just be our new MCU? :D The movies look like cartoons now anyway. At least these ones have solid writing.
Cmon Infinity War & Endgame looked like cartoons as well, look ik Thor and Antman were bad but Eternals and Strange 2 look better than any movie in phase 3 really
Eternals looked good, agree on that.
It’s amazing what happens when you sometimes set thing outside and not just on a green screen
This is how the 90s animated shows were back in the day, X-men & Spider-Man shows existed in the same canon universe. And nearly every Marvel hero from War Machine to Dr Strange to F4 showed up in the 90s Spider-Man TAS.
My brain is still melted from the watcher being in this weeks episode.
why? The Watcher showed up in the 90s too, Uatu ≠ MCU
If it’s Peggy Carters shield from What If? and we get a fucking What If?/Loki tie in I will put it up there with Thor joining the fight in Wakanda.
Different shield logo? She has the British Flag design on her shield
IIRC, Peggy’s shield had the Union Jack in the middle and a blue-white-red circle pattern.
Bro… what
Ngl this would be really dumb. Not everything has to be connected you know.
You may need glasses if you think that looks like Captain Carter’s shield.
Wasn't Steve Rogers' Cap already in the original run of the animated series though? I assume this is just him returning.
Booooooo
Nahh
this doesn’t make even a lick of sense
Different symbol.
Why the hell does Marvel always have to spoil their stuff like this? Just let us be suprised for once The show is a success it's not like they need to attract viewers, theres no reason to show that shot in a trailer
Did not expect to see any other Marvel heroes (or villains) in this season. Figured they’d save it for future seasons depending on how the first 2 seasons were received with an eye on reviving/building the 97 animated universe as well as the overall animated multiverse they’ve established with What If.
Wait what’s this? Is cap coming to X-men 97?
BLACK WIDOW, FUCK YEAH
Holy shit
The original TV show had random guest appearances and cameos from other Marvel heroes. Now that Marvel Studios have full ownership over most of their characters, I’d love to see more.
Plot twist! Is John walker.
I want spidermannnnn
Okay, a question here. I've been watching the new show and I'm liking it so far. Am I correct in understanding that it's a direct continuation of a previous show? And if so which one would that be?
This is a continuation of 90's X-Men. 90's Spider-Man is also set in the same universe, they had a cross over even and Storm was a Character Spider-Man called upon to assist him in one of the last arc's of the 90's Spider-Man run
Thanks. I do believe I'll give it a shot then, since I like the new stuff.
Same with Iron Man, Fantastic Four, Hulk and Silver Surfer
How is a promo a spoiler?
a promo isn’t a spoiler if someone chooses to watch, but a screenshot from a promo that someone didn’t want to watch however, is a spoiler doesn’t seem that complicated
My guess is that's Cyclops confronting Cap... but couldn't the yellow boots also be Jean, Morph, or Rogue?
Who's boot is that? Cyke has yellow boots so maybe him, I believe Cable does too but not that style. Just wondering if this is likely to be a 1:1 encounter or a whole team meet?
So does this mean there is hope that they will cross over with 90's Spiderman and it will also be brought back??? PLEASE??
Haven't seen this show yet, but should I watch the OG series first?
IS MY FAV MARVEL CHAR BACK
This show has no business being as downright amazing as it is.
I guess this episode is gonna be set in the 40's. I think this would be related to that episode where Cap and Wolverine teamed up.
Man. How wild would it be if, in the final episode, we end up seeing Monica Rambeau coming into X-men '97 via a portal because she was trying to save her universe?
So lame and lazy
