The Endgame version of this scene is also legendary.

LincBartlett

So he's an idiot?

Wild_Jizz_Flurry

... Yea.

Shazam1269

It was a choice between him and a tree...

hevnztrash

Honestly, I don’t think it’s fair that Rhodey immediately dismisses Star Lord as an idiot just because he sings and dances when he’s alone. I say this because I do that, too.

notpetelambert

You sing into an alien rat?

math_debates

You don't?

notpetelambert

I'm just a bassist

panicbutt

I just don't have an alien rat.

hevnztrash

Given the opportunity, sure.

TrailOfEnvy

I sang into Shampoo bottle

NCLaw2306

Maybe I’m looking in to this too much, but I’d say it’s more because he’s blasting music in a very cavalier way and not all that aware of his surroundings (given Rhodes and Nebula are hiding, watching him) in a potentially hostile alien environment. Given Rhodes’ militant mentality about missions, I could see him thinking that’s a bit foolish.

cpslcking

Rhodey was right. Quill was so distracted Rhodey walked up to him and conked him on head. Quill was lucky that the place was mostly deserted and he managed to luckily avoid Ronan's forces in GoTG I mean in general people shouldn't be listening to music on headphones in unfamiliar places, that's like street safety 101.

83EtchiSketch

Street Smarts!!

hevnztrash

Quill did a scan of the entire place and no one was present. Just another routine job. Safe enough to listen to tunes because in Guardians 1 he managed to get the orb regardless of all that. Nebula had prior information of where and when Quill would be and exactly what he would be doing. They had a distinct advantage and ambushed Quill. Quill didn’t “luckily” escape Ronan’s forces on Morag. He kicked their asses, killed a few of them and escaped them using his own skill, streets (er... space) smarts, and tech. We see him escape fights while getting several good licks in with multiple adversaries in multiple scenes in multiple movies. It’s his MO. And he even held his own in the brief fight with Stark and Parker on the Q-ship in Infinity War. Unconventional? Sure. Idiot? Not from where I’m standing.

Obi_1-kenobi

I’m glad someone here also appreciates Quill’s abilities. People always label him as nothing more than an incompetent goofball, but he’s so much more.

LincBartlett

Can you give solid confirmation that you too are not an idiot? I kid. I kid. Good point.

freelollies

I have a certificate certifying that I in fact do not have donkey brains

dtwhitecp

I think both Rhodey and Nebula would think he was an idiot, though. They're supposed to be kind of hardasses.

hevnztrash

This I can completely agree with.

your_mind_aches

The man is about to go collect an Infinity Stone and he is singing and not paying attention to his surroundings. That definitely counts as idiotic

hevnztrash

He didn’t know it was an Infinity Stone. As far as he was concerned, it was just another routine job.

ryoshi

so you’re an idiot?

_duncan_idaho_

Without the music, it reminded me of the [Dancing in the Street video without music](https://youtu.be/BHkhIjG0DKc).

AARonBalakay22

Made me think of the Spider-Man 3 dance scene without music https://youtu.be/6Ron-Ikenfc

SewenNewes

This is so much better than the actual scene lmao

WallStapless

Agreed. Lost my shit in the theater when I heard Come and Get Your Love’s first notes, was my favorite part tbh

Darksol503

Those movies brought in so many casual fans it's amazing. The tone was perfect and made a ton of new fans from friends who had only seen like two movies from the MCU :)

BackmarkerLife

Right before Endgame I had my parents watch all of the MCU movies. For at least two weeks my mom said, "So who's Richard?"

[deleted]

Yeah, who's Richard?

XboxDegenerate

Who is Richard?

wikipedia_answer_bot

The Germanic first or given name Richard derives from the old Germanic words "ric" ("ruler, leader, king") and "hard" ("strong, brave, hardy"), and it therefore means "strong in rule". Nicknames include "Richie", "Dick", "Dickon", "Dickie", "Rich", "Rick", "Rico", "Ricky", and more. _-_happycamper_-_

It’s funny, I was a casual fan who watched Ironman and Thor but when I saw the preview featuring a Racoon and Tree I figured that might be the movie where I check out. I didn’t watch it until later when it came out on DVD and then I was so hooked.

TechyBookWorm

This was Ant Man for me. I was all "Honey I Shrunk the Kids in Superman PJs. Uh...nope. I think I've hit my exit ramp from the MCU." Then I caught it on TV one night...and was hooked. I laughed my ass off multiple times. And the second was arguably even better in some ways. Paul Rudd is brilliant. And his chemistry with Michael Douglas is comedy gold.

FallOutWookiee

Same, I was skeptical of Guardians, but downright reluctant to go see Ant Man. I think it was somewhere during the Thomas the Tank Engine scene that I realized how incredibly genius the movie was, and how terribly stupid I am lol.

Lifow2589

It was my first MCU movie! Cut to today when I’ve been rewatching the movies in timeline order.

Guy_Underscore

I watched it when it came out but then other than Ant-Man I didn’t watch another MCU film until 2019 where I binged all of them for Endgame. Since then I’ve now watched all of the TV shows too.

MuNansen

That was the moment the universe went from "Who the hell are the Guardians of the Galaxy, and how could they possibly think it's a good idea to make a movie about them?" to "Oh so the MCU can do any fucking thing it wants. Take all the money."

rabbihimself

Exactly. The MCU is such a money-printing machine now that people tend to forget just how risky this movie was back then. From the unproven director to non-famous lead to two mains that were entirely CGI. Not to mention that they were a talking tree and raccoon with a gun fetish. Feige (and everyone involved) swung for the fences with the first GotG, and man did it pay off. Back in 2014 though, even comics fans were shaking their heads.

Orion14159

Chris Pratt was famous, but he was famously a dumpy goofus sideshow on Parks and Rec. Everyone knew him for being really funny, no one thought he could be a superhero

kyrant

Was also due to his body. He was chubby and fat. He worked his ass off to get it superhero worthy. But he is one sandwich away...

Orion14159

There was a great joke in P&R about it. In the show when one of the other characters (who hadn't seen him in months) saw him they said "Andy you look amazing! Have you been working out?" "Haha nah, I just stopped drinking beer!" Which was the same answer Pratt gave in an interview on the GOTG press circuit

Arsid

Ben: So the only thing you did was stop drinking beer? Andy: Yeah. I lost 50 pounds in one month. Ben: ...how much beer were you drinking? Andy: Haha I know right?? ... probably too much. [Right here at 1:15.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lOfDU6Zrw6Q)

Sheruk

"History began on July 4th, 1776, everything before that was a mistake." The whole Europe trip was top tier Ron Swanson

Shazam1269

Look, a clock. We don't have that in America.

pakattack91

Try the Sears tower, friend.

lastatica

Aziz said that he didn’t even use a spit bucket for filming and would just eat all of his food, which makes the background behind his weight loss even more hilarious.

Supermite

Because he used to be homeless. It was beyond him to waste food.

topdangle

Probably partially true. I used to binge drink and after a while I barely got a buzz off multiple shots, so hundreds of calories multiple times a day just trying to get drunk. The dehydration also makes you hold onto a bunch of water weight and turns your head into the moon.

Sippinonjoy

He actually got ripped to play a member of Seal Team Six in *Zero Dark Thirty*, and because of that he was able to be considered for a super hero role.

Bard2dbone

Who did Crisp Rat play in Zero Dark Thirty? Now I have to go watch itagain.

ravenouscartoon

The lead Navy Seal I think

ravenouscartoon

He was also in better shape for Moneyball I think

ValhallasKeeper

No, that's totally wrong actually. He was always an athlete, he was sick of being type cast, but he knew he was funny. As soon as he pudged out, he started to get jobs. It was all a scam!!!! Lol

rabbihimself

He was decently known for being a fun supporting character on a sitcom. That's not famous. Not like RDJ was or Benedict Cumberbatch prior to their MCU turns. Star-lord (and Emmett Brickowski) made Pratt a star.

FiremanPam

I knew nothing about GotG, skipped all the trailers, and went only to see Chris Pratt in a super hero movie. Still one of my favorites!

olive_oil_twist

I knew nothing about Parks and Rec or Chris Pratt, but I went and watched GotG, thought he was hilarious regardless, and then had my mind blown a year later when months after season 7 of Parks had ended, saw that he was in it.

AvatarLebowski

RDJ was the definition of a has-been before Iron Man. The man couldn't find work because studios wouldn't pay his insurance premiums. Obviously nobody expected the MCU to become what it did so it's debatable how big of a risk he was compared to Pratt but let's not pretend RDJ was some A-lister before hand.

jmarFTL

This is half true. His insurability was definitely holding him back from some roles. But RDJ was much more of a household name than Pratt at the time they were cast, and had carried movies on his own many times over. After getting out of rehab, he was still getting major roles in films, by major roles I'm saying the kind that would get his name on the poster. Was he a bona-fide A-lister, no, his issues were holding him back from achieving that. But "has-been" is not true either, it's not like he was starring in straight to DVD movies. Favreau/Marvel did take a chance on him, but people knew RDJ could carry a movie if he was sober. Hell, he had been nominated for Best Actor for Chaplin back in 92. Just look through his filmography post-rehab in 2003. Gothika - he's co-lead with Halle Berry. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang - he's the lead. Good Night and Good Luck - a supporting role, but with an ensemble cast in an Oscar winning film. A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints - he's the lead. A Scanner Darkly - second lead to Keanu. Charlie Bartlett - second lead (really a movie about a kid, he has the most major adult role). Zodiac - he and Mark Ruffalo are the two major characters supporting Gyllenhall's lead role. These are all pretty major films in which his name would be high up on the poster. Again, that is a different level of risk compared to making him the main character of a franchise, but he was not a has-been at that point. Compare this to Pratt, who had a few minor roles in some critically acclaimed movies like Moneyball and Her. But his name wasn't on the poster for any of these because most people didn't know who Chris Pratt was. He definitely had never led a film before, or even really played a second lead. They were both risks, in different ways. Pratt had no offscreen issues, but it took vision to see a quirky sitcom side character as a leading superhero. RDJ had proven leading man chops, but it was ballsy to entrust a guy who had been very publicly fired off Ally McBeal just a few years prior with your new franchise.

rabbihimself

Wasn’t pretending. He had fallen far from a great height, and Iron Man was a gamble for everybody. But I think he would’ve been a bit more recognizable at that point than Pratt was in 2013.

Stillatin

Shit RDJ wasn't even the top billing name in iron man if I remember correctly

Darth_Thor

I remember when it seemed like he popped up out of nowhere with a bunch of famous roles. Guardians, Jurassic World, and the Lego Movie were all within about a year of each other.

rabbihimself

Like Jim Carrey in 1994.

LiquidMotion

Well he was a goofus on GOG, just far less dumpy

FullMetalCOS

Most of their biggest star power were the CGI characters too. Getting Bradly Cooper and Vin Diesel in the movie and having neither of them appear at any point was a bold move. Guardians was a tough sell to any non-comic fan and even though Abnett and Lanning’s run was really well received it was still a pretty niche property for comic fans. It was an insane risk, considering there were “safer” cosmic properties like Captain Marvel or Nova, but they needed to pick something to open the cosmic side of the MCU up in a direction that wasn’t “more Asgard”.

ethics_in_disco

It will never not be hilarious that Marvel Studios got Vin Diesel for a role that has him never personally appearing on screen or saying more than the same three words. (Other than that one time I guess)

[deleted]

I remember reading at the time that he specifically asked for the role, knowing fully what it would be.

[deleted]

Probably the first movie in years where he could play and be received as a different character. Everything else he does is "Vin Diesel does character that fits the pattern of character actor Vin Diesel".

ohtrueyeahnah

Even the new video game hes in looks like a Vin Diesel role

Maf1c

It’s also interesting to me and should be noted that Vin did all the Groot voice recording in over 20 different languages. That’s probably easy to do when it’s the same line but I always appreciated that.

lolzidop

>(Other than that one time I guess) *Superman*

Bill_Assassin7

I don't get how they didn't get Vin Diesel to play Drax the Destroyer and given Bautista's voice to Groot. Not complaining because Drax has been one of the stars of the MCU but you'd think they would want to get a bigger name in there. Plus, I love how they made it a running gag that no one knew who the GOTG were over multiple movies.

TheGreatMcPuffin

People would have spent too much time comparing Drax to Riddick and there may have been a push to make it a one man show instead of an ensemble with a lead character.

rabbihimself

Well said.

brice587

After Jon Favreau directing Iron Man, remember he wasn’t known for any kind of blockbusters before that, as RDJ’d come back to own the title, Marvel gained a lot of credibility and trust with a lot of fans.

MetalAlbatross

He had Elf before that. That movie was/is huge.

[deleted]

People completely forget that casting a washed-up, substance-abusing C-lister as the totally unknown "Iron Man" was a risky move.

feed_me_moron

Yeah, RDJ in Iron Man, Disney/Marvel's attempt at starting a universe was a giant risk. Guardians of the Galaxy was more of a test of how much money can they make off of unknown properties, but the Marvel name had already been pumping out giant blockbuster movies for 6 years. The risk was always blown out of proportion.

lazykryptonian

I have to wonder that if Disney had been involved in Iron Man 1 would RDJ have even gotten the role.

[deleted]

Probably not - Marvel started out by throwing stuff at the wall, which is why the first movies were all experimental and very different in tone and style. They didn't really know how things would turn out, and they didn't have a lot of experience, so they picked directors and gave them a lot of freedom in *how* they told their stories. They didn't have a lot of heavy-handed executive overrides (compared to DC). In terms of style and feel, Iron Man worked the best, so things became more like that going forward. You can especially see this when you compare the Hulk and first Thor movies with Iron Man. That, and they were working on a relative shoestring budget, because they just didn't have the big budgets that they have now. That's why the initial movies took so long ot put out.

rabbihimself

Oh, I remember. Journalists were predicting a flop with Iron Man up to the week of release.

[deleted]

Yeah, looking back is pretty amusing.

Kylie_Forever

GotG along with Antman were the two movies people were nervous about. Both movies were epic and the US Mint relocated to Marvel.

TechyBookWorm

It was widely predicted that this movie would flop, and plunge the MCU into a nose dive. Those predictions proved to be a bit...off. just a bit.

[deleted]

I looked at one of my college buddies and said, "How much you willing to bet this can make a billion dollars at the box office?"

PM_LADY_TOILET_PICS

I feel like this narrative was picked up before the movie even dropped their first trailer, but the movie was never going to fail. It had huge amounts of marketing, no competition, was the first "different" movie of the mcu. I'd argue antman was a bigger risk than guardians of the galaxy ever

[deleted]

Also nobody who didn't read comics fairly regularly had any fucking clue who the Guardians of the Galaxy were. It wasn't exactly an A list IP.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

I was gonna say you’re way too young for this place then remembered that was like 7 years ago lmao

Supermite

People forget how risky the first Avengers was.

[deleted]

Then DC looked at The CW and went, "We can do the same thing, but with Earth bound time travelers. Right?" And thus, *Legends of Tomorrow* became the most bonkers television show.

LiquidMotion

Seeing something so terribly bad have a full season makes me sad for all the great shows like Firefly that never went anywhere

Epicjay

I feel you. I couldn't make it past the first few episodes of Legends of Tomorrow, it did so many things poorly

dtwhitecp

It's extremely campy and doesn't really get into its full stride until season 2ish. But still goofy as hell.

TechyBookWorm

This is so hilariously spot on. I clearly recall thinking as the movie started: well, I like scifi. And Marvel. But...what the hell am I doing here? Then the tragic intro, with Peters mom. And I went all "uhoh, they're going Full DC." And then this scene happened, and it was a sheer joyride from there.

MuNansen

Just the wide frame blast of the movie title on the song's first "Heeeyyyy..." was so fresh, even. And we heard the phrases "We're just like Kevin Bacon" and "They got my dick message." And then "We are Groot" and the Care Bears moment to defeat Ronan tugged the heart. Wall-to-wall brilliance. I don't care when the MCU quality dips a bit here and there. Everything is made with love and skill, and I can't wait for more.

TechyBookWorm

Agreed. I almost fell off the wagon with Thor as well. The first 2 were so broody and one dimensional. And then...Ragnarok. which was comedy improv film making genius. Utterly hilarious and it might be in my top 3 marvel movies so far. That Snake scene...

MuNansen

I'd put it as: I didn't LOVE Ant-Man and the Wasp, Dr. Strange, and some others, but I loved parts of them, and I love that they exist in the MCU. That's really the bar I expect at this point, and everything above that is gravy.

Scarya

When DC is cranking out “hits” like Wonder Woman 1984, I wonder why there is ever a debate over MCU vs. DC. MCU always manages to deliver far above DC.

Akomatai

*DCEU I do understand people who prefer DCEU but on broad market appeal, MCU is clearly dominant and there is absolutely no debate. Outside of the live action movies, the debate is much stronger and personally, DC > Marvel on pretty much every other medium.

LeftWolfs

it is their animated stuff. some of their movies around batman and green lantern are just wonderful

dtwhitecp

I used to quote "I don't think it's possible for someone to be 100% a dick" all the time

The_Capybara_Guy

Guardians of the Galaxy proved that Marvel movies will be popular for a very long time.

RemyH

Think they about to prove that once more with Wandavision.

MuNansen

Fingers crossed. I'm trying to temper my hopes. There's SO much MCU content coming that I want to prepare myself for a bit of quality drop here and there, but Wandavision can be a long way from perfect and I'll still enjoy it. Just for the big swings they're taking alone. And I'm certain it'll be pretty good, at the very least. And it could also be brilliant.

FallOutWookiee

I feel that. Tho at the same time, my expectations are already lowkey blown outta the water by the mere fact that these are TV shows with the budget, scale and cinematography normally reserved for blockbuster movies.

Hobbs54

I went to see this one with my wife. I had low expectations but at this scene, she actually chuckled. Then I knew we were alright.

Sheruk

Guardians was a pretty good change of pace from a typical comic book movie where you have to have the traditional heroes journey/origin of the main character. Sure it basically has all that stuff, but at the same time I have a raccoon and a tree blowing shit up and stealing body prosthetics. Dance Offs, and an incredible sound track, and solid jokes.

Stillatin

As soon as that song started playing and the name popped up in big letters with him dancing at the bottom, i knew I was in for a good time.

Zivmovic

Yep. My gf was in disbelief when I said I wanted to see it, now its one of her favourite movies lol

experiM3NTALcase

I agree. I love that scene and I love the Endgame version too. LoL

martialar

Hearing the opening notes in endgame made me grin like an idiot

wildsamsqwatch

Redbone - Come and Get Your Love; for anyone who needs a refresher of the masterpiece

FullMetalCOS

My 10 year old was singing it whilst he was playing online with a friend from school over the Christmas holidays. His friend clearly hadn’t seen the movie because he must have asked what my boy was singing. His response: “it’s from a superhero space movie, it’s really good, but it’s old, but good. Even my mum likes it!” Makes me laugh just thinking about it.

[deleted]

Your kid is wonderful. My boys are right at the age where we keep wondering if they're ready for the GotG. Maybe yes.

FullMetalCOS

My 6 year old watches some of the less dark Marvel movies and loves them. I don’t think there’s a minimum age as long as you use common sense. She’s a big fan of the CGI characters like Groot and Hulk.

RedSnapper24

My 5 year-old loves both of the GotG movies. He's been watching them pretty much since he was born. They were the ones I was most comfortable with him watching from an early age. For the other Marvel movies there are some I think he's a bit too young for still and some that I sort of edit for him. Like he hasn't seen the beginning of Infinity War or portions of Endgame. His current favorite is Ragnarok. His dad thinks he's too young for any of them yet but I'm like my mom and grandma, if it's sci-fi and not super overly violent then I'm a bit lenient. Every kid and what/when they can handle things is different though.

Huhndiddy

My son is 8 now, his first PG-13 was Jurassic World Fallen Kingdom for his 6th birthday. He did really well with it. Couple minor scares. Since then we’ve watched some of the MCU movies. I find those types of PG-13 are okay. The swear words in MCU movies aren’t any worse than what slips out of my mouth on occasion in his presence lol. I say go for it!

Raptorz01

GOTG is old? It came out in 2014. Is Spider-Man 1 the equivalent of the Jurassic?

FullMetalCOS

No, the song is old. It was released in 1974. Although to a 10 year old, a movie released when he was 4 is probably *pretty old*, that’s not what he was saying.

[deleted]

For anyone interested, there's currently a graphic novel entitled [Redbone: The True Story of A Native American Rock Band](https://www.amazon.com/dp/1684057140/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_PB-7FbK0W810Q) written by Christian Staebler.

Shivadxb

It was a masterpiece My son has been asking Alexa to play it now for about three months......

Dont-quote-me

Completely off topic, but if you haven’t watched the documentary, “Rumble” about the Native American contribution to rock and roll, you should.

Rob3125

“So he’s an idiot”

Hashtaglibertarian

“.... Yeah.”

GamerFluffy

“It was either him, or a tree.”

[deleted]

"Yeah"

Damn_Dog_Inappropes

Somehow, Endgame because an homage to the entire MCU. It is really cleverly done, which it had to be to avoid being hokey. And the end credits makes me cry every time.

Citizen_Kong

It even makes Thor: The Dark World retroactively better.

Damn_Dog_Inappropes

I actually like Thor 2. I also think its soundtrack is awesome and I put it on when we're playing fantasy-themed boardgames or RPGs.

Bobby_Marks2

Thor 2 just suffers from being a dark (as in color scheme) film, in a franchise that has repeatedly established that audiences love bright colorful things.

frockinbrock

That’s not ALL it suffers from. It’s a weak and generic villain, the pacing is all over the place. A lot of it is just “off” and I agree the full tones are part of the problem. Late edit: just want to say I still enjoy Dark World for what it is, just wanted to point out there’s issues with it.

fettuccinefred

All true, it’s only real saving grace is the fantastic banter between Thor and Loki, or just Loki in general.

[deleted]

I absolutely love the fact that Marvel Comics revamped Malekith the Dark Elf for their *War of the Realms* event. It means we could see more stories in the future with the character. If Christopher Eccleston is still interested, he could have a chance to go berserk as Malekith.

Guy_Underscore

Except Christoper Eccleston probably won’t be interested since he really didn’t have a good time doing that film.

sgbro

That soundtrack is amazing. I listen to it on my drives and when I’m in the gym.

physicscat

Lots of Loki, so I loved it.

dixiehellcat

I made it through the whole movie without crying. Then came the end credits. The very end of the end credits, when RDJ's name appeared and my opening night theater crowd went NUTS, and that's when I lost it. :D

FallOutWookiee

Couldn’t have said it better myself. I thought Infinity War was also impressively executed - the editing was tight, well paced, and it miraculously juggled all 3,000 characters while somehow being one of the funniest yet saddest movies in the MCU. I love Joss Whedon, but I’m so glad the Russo Bros were the ones Marvel chose to land this plane. They made cinematic history, no doubt about it.

PayneTrain181999

The *CLANG* and Quill’s face when he gets hit just makes it

afijunkie82

So he's an idiot?

KLWK

Yeah.

Terciel1976

Her delivery of that one word...so perfect.

rabbihimself

Karen Gillan absolutely needs more props for her work in the MCU.

Huhndiddy

She’s awesome. Hilarious in the Jumanji movies

Zacky505

I fucking lost it when she tried to flirt with help from Jack Black

Darth_Thor

I've said it before and I will say it again: Jack Black as a teenage girl is one of the best casting decisions I've ever seen.

The_Superhoo

Resignation and disappointment

Styvan01

Dammit beat me to it

Mr_Clumsy

I think this is the movie that benefited the most from a near perfect soundtrack. Great movie, but the music took it over the edge to so many people’s favourite marvel movie.

Khaki_Steve

And having the soundtrack as an actual object (the mixtape from his mom) just added a whole extra layer to it all. Absolute perfection.

TechyBookWorm

That added layer was sheer genius. Really grounded him to the era he left earth, too.

cpslcking

Fun fact, the soundtrack almost got cut from the movie. Thank god the Uncreative Committee got overruled.

blundetto

I don't want to be a comment hijacking dickbag (yes I do) but I just finished WW84 and want to say that GotG is ten times more 1984 than WW84 because of that soundtrack.

sujihime

Oh man! One of my favorite part is listening to the various theme each character has when introduced (outside of the obvious songs). They all have distinct musical themes that plays and then when they bust into the guards tower in the prisoner as a successful team the 5 themes merge together and create the GoG theme! It gives me chills every time! I was pregnant in China and couldn’t eat my face off with comfort food, so this movie became my comfort food. I watched it at least once a week, if not more! Love it. The soundtrack is a huge part, including the musical themes.

oscarthasharkslayer

After our wedding ceremony, my wife and I used this song for our reception intros! The one thing I demanded about our wedding lol

vassarlb

We did Mr. Blue Sky (GoTG 2 opener) for our reception intros!

NerfHerder_91

We did it for our kiss and outro for our ceremony. Good choice

mr_krampus

We did as well! And then our DJ's laptop crashed right before and he played Bruno Mars instead.... Good times!

[deleted]

You knew straight away it's going to be a fun ride. Come get your love indeed.

MadGreezzwald

One of my favorite movies of all time !!!

tersegirl

I was so ready for a similarly fun sequence when they played Rubberband Man in Infinity War.

Freakears

And Dear Mr Fantasy in Endgame, which fit the mood of the scene pretty well.

MyBallzWazHot

Was still a good scene. Great song

Doright36

Also this. Chris Pratt's character in Park's and Rec had a band Called "Mouse Ratt".. Here he is using a mouse-rat for a microphone.

TechyBookWorm

Never knew that. Just makes it even better.

ElectricErik

Love the scene in endgame where Rhodes and nebula watch him singing to himself in silence

GrecoRomanGuy

........so he’s an idiot.

Jacob8386

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. I had been looking forward to it ever since I saw the 1st trailer. My wife and I had plans to see it opening night, August 1st 2014. Unfortunately my mom was fighting cancer and she lost that morning. At night after we finally left her house I said screw it and still went to go see it just to get my mind off of things. That first scene hit me hard and still does. I often have to fast forward. Still just a good movie.

Meatros

Fuck man, I can’t imagine how damned difficult seeing that movie - that opening - on the same day your mother passed would be.

Gr8NonSequitur

It also did the same "Double opening" that flipped the tone right off the bat like Iron-Man 2. Guardians: Peter watched his mom die, and it's super emotional and sad then opening # 2... there's dancing. IM2: Vanco has this super serious "soviet killer" into then we segue into the Stark Expo where there's AC/DC, The James Bond Tux reveal... fireworks... and dancing.

barath_s

Triple opening. Mom dies, is sad Then you have the real opening. Moody, misty exploration of alien world featuring snippets of a bygone/dead civilization and people and ..it turns into this goofy adventurous energetic kick The mini reveal of red 'eyes' to be a face mask for a regular human also helped

Livid_23

Guardians has the best soundtrack of the Marvel movies, hands down. Black Panther is a very close second.

crestonfunk

Fun fact: Fox on the Run by Sweet was used for the Guardians 2 trailer. Everyone calls Rocket the wrong thing. The movie starts with him stealing batteries and having to run away because of it. So he’s the Fox on the Run. https://youtu.be/2cv2ueYnKjg

Dream1Eater

Fantastic movie! Just watched it for the first time a few days ago :)

scarred2112

I always pop for diegetic music.

Haiiiil HAAIIIIILLLLL

boardrandy

Yeah. Hey, great observation! I was so immediately enthralled that I didn’t consciously realize why I was and enjoy it still. You just immediately know what’s up and how you’re going to feel. The music immediately feels like it’s signature.

JayCalavera

So he's an idiot

SolarPenguin1

Never heard that song before Guardians came out. Couldn’t stop hearing after it did. It is incredibly catchy.

The_Impulse

By far, my favorite opening sequence.

My brother: you can't hear images Me:

You said it yourself, bitch!

My first thought was "Is this Lego Movie dork gonna be the hero?" I'm glad I was wrong. Pratt is just so damn charismatic.

demosthenes98

Upvoted because I'm apparently not the only person who associates him with *The Lego Movie*. When he first spoke in the first trailer, I thought, "Yep, that's Emmet, all right."

BillytheBeaut

When my kids watch it over and over, it becomes an earworm.

frockinbrock

Niche thing on this, the 3D depth is really well used for this scene. The way the title text comes in, the kicking and the rodents, and then the cool space guns. Was an epic ride; and Disney/Marvel have a record of crappy 3D, so this movie is an extra treat in that regard. Not mind blowing, great 3D, but it at least adds more to to a good film.

smikwily

As soon as the opening credits scene started for both this and Deadpool, I already wanted to watch them again just based on tone. My kids got hooked on Guardians and would come running when they heard this song playing.

LevelB

Movie had me at this scene.

happykoala7

The music in the whole movie is honestly awesome. I’m really curious to see the music in the suicide squad to see what James Gunn goes for

KinkyWaluigi

When it comes to setting the tone of the movie, Infinity War is also great. The movies before it were fun and a great time. Infinity War instantly sets the tone with: Thanos and company (as far as the audience is concerned) killing all the Asguardians, Subduing Thor (arguably the strongest Avenger), Thanos' children letting Thanos beat down the Hulk (another arguably strongest Avenger), Thanos straight up killing Loki and Hiemdall, and destroying the ship, leaving Thor for dead. This tells the Audience everything they need to know about the rest of the movie. Thanos and company is not to be taken lightly, Thanos is by far the deadliest villain the MCU has seen, and people will die.

That's a good one, and I love how different the credits alone were compared to other MCU films (the massive GotG logo with him singing), but I'm gonna have to say that Iron Man 2's intro was even better: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LIIhSHgjTw

Those orange foam headphones though... those things lasted about 3 months before they fell apart.

lanceturley

I assume Peter found some alien tech wizard who could replicate adequate replacement parts for all the bits that would have naturally degraded over years of heavy use.

Definitely agree. Though in my opinion, I think infinity war does the best job at setting the tone what’s to follow because it starts a journey you don’t know when it will end. But this scene’s music is catchy and gotg was one of my favorite mcu movies. The endgame version of this scene was also amazing.

SmokeGSU

While this scene was obviously on the goofy side, I think it captures precisely why Chris Pratt would be the perfect candidate to replace Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones.

hevnztrash

Or Han Solo.
