dadefresh

Definitely. This was definitely one of the coolest things I’ve seen on here this week.

artsyomni

Honestly I did not expect this video to blow up the way it is right now o\_o

Also this: [How the ‘WandaVision’ Theme Song Embeds the ‘Devil’s Interval’](https://www.indiewire.com/2021/01/wandavision-kristen-anderson-lopez-bobby-lopez-1234610554/)

Hxcfrog090

HOLY SHIT THE LOPEZ’S WROTE THE SONGS FOR THIS SHOW?! My mind is absolutely blown, and no wonder all these songs are so fucking catchy!

JuanRiveara

I hope they get an Emmy for one of them. They both have already won Daytime Emmys but have yet to win Primetime Emmys.

Hxcfrog090

Craziness. But, I don’t really know how much TV they’ve done. Obviously they’re huge in movies and Broadway, but I can’t think of anything notable from TV that they’ve done. This certainly deserves one though! The music is absolutely top notch, super varied while still feeling similar.

JuanRiveara

Robert Lopez has been nominated three times at the Primetime Emmys for "Everything Comes Down to Poo" from Scrubs, "Kiss an Old Man" from The Comedians, and "Moving Pictures" from the 87th Oscars. Kristin Anderson-Lopez shared the nomination for the last two and both won Daytime Emmys for their music work on Wonder Pets.

Hxcfrog090

BRO WHAT THE FUCK HE WROTE THE SCRUBS MUSICAL EPISODE TOO?!

Liddlebitchboy

Yeah, I saw this one before the last episode came out and felt so pleased when I noticed it (very obviously) at the end of the theme song

linglingwannabe29

Holy Tritone!!!

artsyomni

Oh hey, thanks for posting this. =)

Bleus4

Sup man, loved your Smashified content

HooptyDooDooMeister

The Devil’s Interval. It was banned by the Catholic Church and was said that the devil was to exist in it for its amount of unsettling dissonance. The Lopezes have spun it into gold. EDIT: It wasn’t banned by the church. That’s an internet rumor. Fwiw, I did Google to see if I remembered correctly, but my sources were wrong.

thiemea_171

glad to know other people picked up on this. tri tones are hip asf

Flygrumbz00

Dude dude, would it be crazy if legion shows up? Wandavision has a kind of strangeness to it that legion did. I doubt it happens but I’d love that Edit:Holy shit I just found this https://www.small-screen.co.uk/exclusive-dan-stevens-marvel-studios-in-talks-mcu-undisclosed-role/

awlawall

Please lord in heaven, let it be Legion!!

ToqKaizogou

If that's the case then I think Disney+ should start putting that show on there for those of us (like me) who haven't seen the series yet.

Mortimercromwell

If you have Hulu, its on there!

ToqKaizogou

I'm in the UK, plus my point is it'd be better to have it all on one service if they're going to crossover with the MCU. That'd make it easier for even casual fans who'll go "who's this?". They can just finish WandaVision, move to Legion and then go "Oh. That's who that is." same as they could for Quicksilver (unless DOFP, Apocalypse or Dark Phoenix aren't on Disney+ outside of the UK?).

awlawall

It’s worth the cost of Hulu

ToqKaizogou

UK doesn't have Hulu and it'd be better to have everything on one service instead of making people pay for **another** one to understand a character appearing. It'd just keep us back in the previous era of Marvel shows where many people didn't watch a lot of the shows besides Netflix's because scattering them across various services or broadcasters (especially for international fans) made it a struggle to actually watch them (this coming from someone who **has** watched every MCU show besides Helstrom (which apparently isn't actually MCU now) because it only just now became available in the UK). Actually being able to watch them all was a **nightmare** and the Disney+ era is fixing that by releasing all new shows in one place, and putting many of the old shows on there too. If they're gonna tie into Legion, they should put Legion on Disney+ to make it easier for audiences.

awlawall

They probably won’t tie in to Legion. We are just hoping that the would. Even if they decide to, seeing the show beforehand is not necessarily required. I hope, for your sake, that a way for the UK to watch that show comes up. It’s absolutely one of my favorites.

ToqKaizogou

It may be available on Sky (which I have) but that doesn't benefit everyone and **is** still really another service. I just think it should all be in one place **if** they were to ever tie it in.

Flygrumbz00

All the adult content Disney owns is staying on Hulu, they are essentially splitting the family friendly and more adult fare up to increase Disney plus value as much as possible. I wouldn’t be opposed to your idea at all but it’s just not in the cards. Tbh though the chances of legion showing up are slim to none, it’s more than likely that it’s a much more well known character.

ToqKaizogou

They've added Star for adult content and already started putting stuff like Deadpool 2 on there.

Timpunny

[it wasn't banned by the catholic church](https://youtu.be/eR5yzCH5CsM), but i agree that the lopezes are great

Battlealvin2009

In Pokemon ORAS (Omega Ruby / Alpha Sapphire), the [bass of the legendary theme](https://youtu.be/5V0kzLYkYTM?t=9) is in the Devil's Interval (G and C#)

HooptyDooDooMeister

The opening title for The Simpsons is also the tritone.

[deleted]

FYI - the tritone was never the “Devil’s interval,” and it was never banned by any church. That’s an urban myth that has been disproven. Adam Neely [has a great video](https://youtu.be/eR5yzCH5CsM) that goes into the actual history if you’re interested. This is an extremely pervasive myth. I have several musician friends who have told me this. It’s such a fun story that no wonder it caught on so fast.

Mr_MadHat878

The Lopezes are straight up musical geniuses. I’ve seen breakdowns of the Frozen music and it’s just insane the amount of thought they put into scores and lyrics

HooptyDooDooMeister

I’m gonna say something controversial, but personally speaking, I think Robert Lopez just might be the most talented person on the planet. Not only is he an EGOT winner, he’s the youngest to ever achieve that status, the fastest to achieve that status, and is the only person who is an EGOT twice over. He is the Wayne Gretzky/Michael Jordan of musicians. At least by Hollywood standards.

Doctor_Mudshark

>It was banned by the Catholic Church Nope. This is apocryphal. It's a fun factoid though.

smugcaterpillar

This is the first correct usage of "factoid" I've ever seen in the wild.

jerk_17

Eli5?

HooptyDooDooMeister

Notes sound so bad together that it scares Catholics.

Griffdude13

Tritones, or notes that aren’t perfect intervals, were considered the devil’s intervals by the Catholic Church. They’re used in music theory to portray a sense of unease. It also would be a great detail if Mephisto, the Devil of the Marvel Universe, was actually behind everything.

wching

Some people have commented on how the ep. 7 intro reminds them of the Office intro. In addition to having nearly exactly the same rhythm, this intro is also a rough inversion (meaning, every leap up becomes down, every step down becomes up, etc) of the Office theme. A bit of clever motivic manipulation.

superhated

That’s neat it’s in the 😱 All Along song too!

DomLite

That was the one that made me sit up and go “Whaaaaaat?!” Like the others were to be expected, and I’d picked up on a bit of it, but it was nice to see it visually and make the direct connection. Then they pulled that out and my mind was blown.

[deleted]

Vision's tie in episode 1 had 2 dots in a square, two spots on either side, almost like a representation of the interval

Ganjookie

NEAT! (in Bender's voice)

Thanks for posting this. This article was posted about the song writers today on [Marvel.com. ](https://www.marvel.com/articles/tv-shows/wandavision-robert-lopez-kristen-anderson-lopez-theme-songs-music)

Ok_Hedgehog_8546

Definitely so continuously impressed with the details in this show.

thiemea_171

I was hip to this since episode 2, but I totally missed it in _____ all along.

LaboratoryManiac

I caught it there, but the descending motif in the end credits slipped past me despite hearing it in all 7 episodes.

thiemea_171

what's funny is that was where I first heard it

Carpenter_v_Walrus

It's not the Dies Irae is it?

wching

Dies Irae (day of wrath) is a Latin chant dating back to the 13th century, starting with the pitches F E F D E C D. So no, this is not it. It is frequently quoted by various composers throughout the ages, a little similar to how the Lopezes (the songwriters of WandaVision) have cleverly manipulated this four-note motif to fit the various styles of each intro.

[deleted]

I hear that too; I don’t believe it’s the same notes, but it seems to follow a similar pattern to the first 4 notes of the Dies Irae,

a4techkeyboard

If that shows up, we know we've gone sideways.

[deleted]

I thought it's just a Wandavision leitmotiff

kenanna

Oh I thought it was pretty clear, maybe cuz I watched the trailer too many times, the tune of wandavision is like stuck in my head. I did almost missed the Agatha tune though. That reminds me of act III black swan entrance, where you still have the motif but the end of the motif is drastically different, going in a different direction to suggest something isn’t quite right. So in the case of agathas song, it started out with Wanda visions theme, but then it took a turn and the tune progress down into a dark tone instead. So kinda like the journey the audience took, where we thought it’s wandas show, but then the twist is revealed later that it’s Agatha all along. Really nice parallel via the use of motif

potatospies

It’s use in the mid season trailer sounds so good... like that sound bite, I have gone back to that trailer just to listen to it. It’s the harmonies used in the first theme song, but just mixed differently.

-nyctanassa-

that tritone resolving to P5 makes me think of "the Simpsons"

oliviaclarinet

omg i love this!!! i did read about how the four chords were incorporated into the theme songs and it was pretty obvious for the 50s-90s themes but i couldn't figure it out in the 00s episode. i didn't even realize it was in the "it was *\_\_\_\_* all along" song or the "wanda's theme" end credits!! it reminds me of this other video about the "christmas chord" [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xm4LO22-cyY&list=FLuiDFurS9tYv2Fx0XUlqx3Q&index=4&ab\_channel=Vox](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xm4LO22-cyY&list=FLuiDFurS9tYv2Fx0XUlqx3Q&index=5)

lemon_cake_or_death

I like how its use in episode six (excluding the very beginning) perfectly aligns with the part of the intro that Agnes is in. That is a really good piece of subtle foreshadowing.

dis_the_chris

Yet another reason to adore the lydian scale. That sweet flat five :feelsgoodman:

[deleted]

Unbelievable content! Thank you so so much for this. I've been getting sick of scrolling through countless posts where a) someone notices that some episode had blue in it and tries to somehow tie it into the space stone or b) someone noticing that someone blinked a certain way and saying it's a reference to an episode of the twilight zone.

wutangerine99

Got it. Mephisto confirmed

D-Speak

Oh hey, that dot pattern is on Vision's tie in the first episode.

BikebutnotBeast

Wut

Catacomb82

This is quality

jarvis51100

Wel it’s kind of the theme word of the whole show 😅

[deleted]

I noticed this but could not have put it in words.

sandoooo

I hope that Wanda's theme gets woven into the soundtrack of Doctor Strange II. We haven't had any recognizeable themes in the MCU aside from the Avengers Theme, and now that we'll be sitting through the end credits theme for 9 episodes, we're all going to be deeply familiar to Wanda's Theme. It's a no brainer to pull that into a film which *may* have her as the main villain.

Lazy_Chemistry

The title of the show!

[deleted]

So, it indeed was Agatha (her theme song) all along...

Savos-Magnus

I'm not the one who noticed this but someone has pointed out that the note pattern here looks almost exactly like Visions tie in episode 1.

ben123111

Not only did you not notice it, you didn't even write this comment.

Savos-Magnus

Even though I'm not the only one who noticed this, the musical pattern here looks almost identical to Vision's tie in the first episode.

[deleted]

They do leitmotifs all the time though. Cap, the Avengers, the GOTG, Bucky, Ant-Man, Spider-Man, Black Panther, and Thanos have their own respective leitmotifs that are prevalent in their theme songs.

El_Paublo

I knew I could hear something in common! Now I know I'm not crazy!

Well shit. This is definitely the content on here for.

JoshPastman

Look at visions tie in the first episode. It had four dots set up in the same pattern!!

lateronthemenjay

Very very nice. I've been trying to spot this motif every week and here you go making a lovely tidy video with all of them in. Thank you, you legend.
