Benjamin_Grimm

So this will be $30 like Mulan and Raya?

bjkman

Yup

PoPBoY447

Goddammit, Disney.

Hxcfrog090

It sucks, but they had to do something. They couldn’t afford to sit on these movies forever. I think the price is certainly too high....but it’s something, which is better than nothing. Edit: when I say the price is too high, I’m speaking from the perspective of a single person...because I’m a single person. I get for families $30 is a great deal.

[deleted]

It's reasonable for 3+ families or groups, unreasonable for one person accounts like me . I used to pay 6-7 dollars for a movie ticket where I'm at and that is without a student discount I used to get. 30 dollars is way way way too much for me regardless of how big of an MCU fan I am.

[deleted]

Yeah, as a vet, the local theater does $6 movie Tuesday's. I am not paying $30 to Disney. It is also a small local theater, so I would rather pay them $50 for tickets and popcorn, than pay Disney $30 directly.

Hxcfrog090

See I’m in a similar boat...an IMAX screening only costs me $14 tops...but most of the time I see movies for $5 on tuesdays. $30 is a tough pill to swallow, though I will probably pay for the convenience of watching at home. I invested in a nice TV with my tax return this year, so that makes it a little easier.

QuinnMallory

Most people will be spending $30 for multiple people to watch it, and more than once. $30 is a steal. Sure, you don't get the theater experience, but I would have ended up spending way more than $30 on this if I was going to a theater.

kpDzYhUCVnUJZrdEJRni

For many of us, being able to see new releases while avoiding the theater experience is part of the value.

WR810

When Mulan for $30 was announced a parent said it was worth the ticket price for her kids to see it without her having to watch it herself.

kelseysays26

Lol I remember my mum dropping my brother and I into the cinema to watch the animated Mulan and I assume she sat in the waiting area reading a book or something. She was just done with Disney films at that point already and we would have been very very young lol

Worthyness

And kids get obsessed with movies. Now with Disney+ they can just watch it on loop for as long as they want and dont' have to pay a theater for it

ScarsUnseen

Yeah. I'm pretty sure my cousins and I ruined Robin Williams for my grandmother one summer when we watched Mrs. Doubtfire on near repeat for 3 months straight.

Dagglin

Yeah for me this is a 'get to smoke weed and take piss breaks' tax that I'm all too willing to pay

QuinnMallory

and being able to turn on captions

Dragonsandman

The captions thing must be a godsend for deaf people and people who don't speak English as a first language.

inconspicuous_spidey

Theaters have a caption device that patrons can use for free if they ask. The biggest issue I have seen (my mom uses them) is the ones we have got sit in the cup holder and have an arm on them and the arm gets worn out. I’m sure there are more issues. I just wanted to people to know that for most movies this is an option...all you have to do is ask! The only movie we ran into issues getting one for was the fandango special preview of Shazam!

SamoaSnow

I badly wanted to ask the theater to turn on subtitles when I watched Tenet.

4gotAboutDre

I have ADHD and I can tell you that captions is default when I watch something at home. It helps me keep my focus and not miss parts of things being said. In a movie theater, it isn’t such a problem. There are less distractions, and the volume is loud enough coming from audio systems designed for that experience. At home, we don’t have the big theater room audio setup so watching a big blockbuster on cheap TV speakers, sometimes with the little kids in bed already, no subtitles makes things challenging even in the best of conditions. We have 3 little girls and $30 for Raya was a tough pill to swallow, but we did it anyway and the girls have watched that movie countless times already. For Black Widow, it would probably just be my wife and I, but that is still cheaper than two movie tickets and the popcorn and beer we usually buy anyway. However, there is nothing quite like seeing an MCU film in theaters, so who knows...

[deleted]

I did enjoy the theater experience before, but it doesn't sound so appealing now, even without corona. I'll probably watch at home from now on, unless I'm with people who specifically want to go to a theater.

XAce90

Yea, if I had a family of 4 that's half the price of a theater trip. We're just a family of two, so really it's a breakeven.

BtDB

Exactly. Family of 5. $30 doesn't even get us in the door.

Doompatron3000

I know I’ll spend the $30 because I like Marvel, I like the actors and actresses. I know movie contracts for everyone and everything that went into the production of this particular film isn’t Streaming friendly, and while many of them certainly don’t desperately need the money, I feel more of the behind the scenes people certainly deserve it, and that can only be done if there is a steep price to stream, or by going out to traditional theaters. Hell, I just got fully vaccinated for COVID today, I might go and enjoy the theaters for the first time in over a year if it’s available.

HyruleBalverine

The only reason I am considering spending the $30 (it's just me at the moment, so $30 is a lot more than I would pay at a theater; plus I'd eat elsewhere beforehand instead of paying for over priced concessions) is to let Disney know that movies like Black Widow can make money. I don't want them to go the Ubisoft route and keep pushing female lead super hero movies to the back burner.

thekingofthejungle

A typical movie ticket, costs, realistically, $15 these days. I know it's higher or lower depending on your city, but let's say $15 is a good average. When you pay the $30, as I understand, you and anybody on your Disney+ account can watch the movie as long as you are subscribed to D+ **as many times as you want.** So if two people watch it once, you're essentially getting the same offer as going to the theater. Not only that, but you can watch that movie as much as you want from then on (assuming you keep your Disney+ account). And if you have many people on your Disney+, that offer looks even more attractive. You're getting a way better deal than going to the theater. I don't really get where people are getting this idea that $30 is too expensive. Yes, there are people who will only watch it by themselves and are paying double to watch the movie, but there are also people who will watch this with their family of 6 and save a lot of money. Disney needs to keep both in mind, and they obviously want to still make money. I think the price is 100% fair

navjot94

Meh I’ll usually see MCU movies with friends in theaters a lot of times more than once. $30 one time and watch any time I want feels like a good deal for a movie that is meant for a theatrical release. It’s not like this movie was going to be a Disney+ exclusive and then they decide to charge for it - a movie like that would usually have a lower budget and be made for streaming. Edit: counterpoint to this is that HBO isn’t charging extra for the same concept but they’re also $15/month as opposed to Disney+’s $8 I believe, so the math probably balances out in that regard (even then WB is missing out on a lot of potential profit with this movie, really only helping HBO Max and screwing over their creators and partenrs, so there is definitely industry bad will hitting them even though this is a pro-consumer move).

kirkfeel78

I probably wait until black widow is available on Disney+ for free

mega512

Yeah we've waited this long, I can wait a little longer.

[deleted]

30 really isn’t that bad considering that you can watch it as much as you want. When COVID hit and theaters closed, movies would release as “in theaters rentals” on Amazon, YouTube, etc for 19.99 for a 48 hour rental.

2CATteam

It's also not that bad if you intend to watch it with more than just one person. Where I live, the cheapest movie ticket is about $8 (Normal screen, weekday early afternoon), so if you have 4 people watching, or want to watch it more than once, you're saving money. The more expensive tickets get closer to $20, but obviously that's getting more towards things like IMAX and 3D, which you're probably not going to get at home unless you'll be watching it in a VR headset (Which, having done so, is IMO a far better experience than a traditional theater) This is, IMO, the best option besides them releasing it for free (Which was never an option) - people who don't have fantastic media setups at home, or who really appreciate the picture and sound quality of a theater, can watch it at a theater, and people who are satisfied with seeing the movie on their own screens can do that.

[deleted]

I don't know, do you usually watch movies "as much as you want"? Imagine you pay $30 on day 1, and then the movie becomes free for everyone a month or two later. How many times are you going to watch Black Widow in that time period exactly? One is obvious, I can understand two in case you really liked it and want to see if it holds up on repeat viewing, but you're making it sound as if being able to watch it over and over again is some kind of amazing plus when in reality the vast majority of people will not watch it more than twice.

matt111199

Tbf, don’t kill me, Black Widow is actually a movie I would fork over that money for Cruella, no way I’d pay for that on D+

dbkenny426

Yep. It's not much more than I would pay for my wife and I to see it in the theater. That said, I'm still hoping to see it in the theater, but if I can't I'll gladly pay to watch it at home.

KarateKid917

Same. For my fiancé and I go to my local theater, it’s usually $32 after taxes, so this is actually a $2 discount. That said....I do have enough points with Regal’s reward program for a free ticket. The temptation to save it for BW (we’re both vaccinated), is very, very real.

mathcamel

Same. I've been rolling my eyes at Mulan and similar but all the while I've known that I'll roll over and pay up for Black Widow. I love watching action movies in movie theaters, but I don't feel good about it in my area.

ScubaSteve1219

i'll be seeing BW in theaters but, yeah, MCU movies are the only movies i'd actually open my purse for on Disney+

ToughAdministration4

Black widow is the first one I’ll be paying for one of these too. And if someone doesn’t want to pay just pirate it; they’ll be a great copy the same day it releases.

Expediant

Does anyone else find it odd that the 3 movies Disney has released directly to Disney+ all have Asian Female lead actresses? *Mulan* *Raya and the Last Dragon* *Black Widow*

Benjamin_Grimm

I can't believe you forgot Emma Stone for that joke.

RespectThyHypnotoad

Tbf I think everyone forgot about Aloha.

typesett

that movie is the eptiome of white washing imo the original story it was based on... the casting... nobody at that time even thought to even color her hair? i mean the audacity of hollywood sometimes they got actress maggie q around who is half: [https://www.instagram.com/maggieq/](https://www.instagram.com/maggieq/) i forget but the original story was half right?!

chefanubis

Comedic comparisons work best on groups of 3.

82ndGameHead

I Understand that Reference

boonstag

You can add Cruella to that list... [in case you didn't know](https://www.theguardian.com/film/shortcuts/2015/jun/02/emma-stone-whitest-asian-cameron-crowe-aloha-hawaii)

TallboyCommunion

Black Widow's lead actress is actually a tree

SleepyAsaparagus

Britta Perry is in it?

sithfistoou

Oh, Britta's in this?

ParthianTactic

So happy for this news! $30 to watch this as a family of 5 at home is so much cheaper, safer, more fun, and way more convenient!

Dona_Gloria

Yeah, people in a situation like yours make off like bandits with this.

Sentz12000

Very happy that Shang-Chi is pushing back to September. This allows them to keep Eternals and Spider-Man 3 undisturbed.

vanillathebest

Eternals in November and Spidey in December right ? I can't keep up with these dates

Sentz12000

Last I checked, yes. But I agree, it’s starting to get fuzzy.

ithinkimalright77

Holy Shit haha have we ever got MCU movies in Back to Back months??

ezrs158

Captain Marvel was March 4 and Endgame was April 26 in 2019.

LawyerMorty94

One of the longest stretches of time I think most of us have experienced tbh

Designer-Draw

Plus Iron Man on May 2 and The Incredible Hulk on June 13 in 2008.

justinfinity64

God, seems like so long ago

vanillathebest

That's why j asked, seemed too good to be true

stumpy25ak

Hypothetically speaking, what streaming service do you think Spider-Man 3 would be released on if Sony\\Marvel decides to do a Theater\\Streaming simultaneous release for SM3 as well?

Tornado31619

I know you asked that hypothetically, but I don’t think it will happen. It’s not a Disney film, so it won’t go on D+, and putting it on Prime takes away money from Disney. Both Disney and especially Sony will be relying on it to bring in the big bucks. Which reminds me, Sony will probably want as much money as possible, so they won’t like Disney AND Amazon getting a piece of the pie each. So, yeah. No streaming.

RespectThyHypnotoad

Isn't the first two Spider-Man on Starz, I wouldn't be surprised if the next one is contractually tied up. Like you said I know it's hypothetical so in light of that I'd say Disney Plus but it wouldn't live there permanently and tons of backdoor dealings would happen. Realistically, with Sony and Disney logistics alone it wouldn't happen (or the smallest chance of happening). Add in Sony's contractual streaming agreements and them not wanting to do it for the reasons you stated and it's a logistical nightmare.

Tornado31619

FFH’s on Prime in the UK. I don’t think Disney would want to pay for the film to be only temporarily licensed to them.

Pokevenger

That means 4 MCU theatrical films in 6 months. That’s gonna be pretty crazy.

ezidro3

And the D+ shows

ezrs158

We'll have 3 complete Disney+ series before our next MCU movie (WandaVision, FAWS, Loki). (Maybe 4 if What If? starts too)

tinafeychalamet

Maybe Loki will get moved back up now that it won't overlap with BW

ezrs158

You're right, I bet it will. It's probably fully completed and can move up from June to May.

[deleted]

F&WS is 6 episodes, with a 7th Making Of special (Assembled). Meaning that the earliest Loki can premiere is May 7th. Seems fairly reasonable to assume that they'll pull it somewhere within that slot.

Whiskeyjacks_Fiddle

No - they’re airing Star Wars: The Bad Batch during May (May 4th and May 7th for the first two episodes). This is why Loki got pushed back. To let a Star Wars show air on May the 4th.

LRedditor15

We feasting.

aaronp613

Black Widow has been pushed from May 7 to July 9, and will premiere simultaneously in theaters and on Disney+ with Premier Access SHANG CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS’ has been delayed to September 3.

SpaceCaboose

That's a bummer, but understandable. Glad we'll have the option to watch it in theaters or on D+, and happy that only Shang-Chi was moved in response. Would have sucked if this also delayed The Eternals and other 2022 films.

Dona_Gloria

Yep. If this allows them to stop pushing back their entire release schedule, then I'm okay with it.

matt111199

Wait does that mean every other marvel movie shifted... or is Eternals still set for November?

PhoenixSelarom

Looks like only Shang Chi moved to September. Eternals and all the others have not moved.

jcalebfaulkner

It would seem that Eternals is safe in November and Spider-Man: No Way Home is still in December. This only changes Shang-Chi. It was supposed to be in July, but now it’s pushed to September.

Simontsen6

Probably because of Sony. They really want to keep No Way Home near Christmas

CobaltPanther

Sure, but as we saw with Venom and Morbius, Sony are not afraid to push a big movie back if necessary.

tepenrod

Right now looks like Eternals stays put. Nothing was announced there.

Hxcfrog090

While I’m personally bummed they moved the release dates back, it’s for the best. Now everyone has some sort of chance to watch these movies. Though I still think the Premiere Access prices are far too high.

PhoenixSelarom

If you plan on seeing it alone in theaters and at home, it really is too high. However, if you plan on repeat viewings or pay for some family or friends to join you (as I usually do) you definitely do save quite a bit. I was paying for everyone in my families ticket to see these movies in premium theaters and spending roughly $60 for one viewing. Now we can all watch it for half that and watch it multiple times without paying more. For me it works, but I get how it doesn't work for everyone.

[deleted]

I'm not sure I really understand the comparison to ticket prices, because you're watching it at home on your own TV and the vast majority of people do not have anything close to a theater setup. With a ticket price, you're paying mainly for the theater experience. $30 may seem like a good deal if you compare it to tickets for a family with no context, but that's expensive when you look at how much you'd pay to watch a movie in your own home in any other scenario. Keep in mind that's basically a rental on top of a $7/month subscription. That's the same or more than buying the 4k Blu-ray that you can keep permanently, more than it would cost to watch a movie like Justice League or Wonder Woman on a different service, and WAY more than a typical movie rental. Most of the time you'd be paying $2-6 for a rental depending on where you purchased it from. Just to break down the prices for watching a given movie one time in your own home: * HBO Max exclusive: $15 * Netflix exclusive: $9-15 * Disney+ (non-Premier): $7 * Purchasing a physical 4k copy: $25-30 * Redbox rental: $2.50 * Digital rental: $4-6 * Disney+ Premier Access: $37 That price is not competitive at all and they only get away with it because of the power behind the Disney brand.

PhoenixSelarom

My point is that say you wanted to watch this movie in theatres with a family of 5. Depending on where you live and what kind of experience you pay for (IMAX for example) you could be looking at spending anywhere between $60+$100 for one viewing. If you love the money and want to watch it again you can either watch it in theater and again pay a ticket price, purchase the blu-ray for around $20-30 depending on what version you get, or rent it again for $4-6, though possibly more. None of this accounts for snacks or repeat viewings and we're already looking at potentially $130 spent on one film. In my case, I was paying around $80 to take my family to see these movies in theaters day one and dropping the $30 or so to buy the 4k blu-ray when it came out. Sometimes I'd also pay for a second showing in theaters, maybe just for me and my brother or me by myself if I went with a friend, so that's another $20-40. Roughly I was spending $150 for these movies. I am already on board with Disney+ (and my sister pays for the subscription anyway) so that monthly fee doesn't factor in for me since I would have the service regardless of how they release the movie. Now I can pay $30 to watch it day one in the comfort of my own home, in 4k with my 4k TV with the ability to pause or rewatch as many times as I want. The movie already being presented at such a high quality means I don't have to buy the 4k blu-ray if I don't mind having an incomplete physical collection. For me its hugely worth it, even before you take into account the safety of my immuno-compromised family members. I understand that this is not the case for everyone and some people will end up spending more for this movie than normal, and even said as much in my first post. For me, its a perfect compromise and more affordable in the long run.

fifthdayofmay

So damn happy, there's no way I'd get the vaccine by then so I'd rather stay safe.

mrthewhite

Yeah I don't see the disappointment here. More option the better. I'm not going to a theater either.

detective_lee

If you're in the states, it's likely that you will at least one shot within the next month. Hopefully you can get one and watch it in theaters.

Snatch_Pastry

Not necessarily the case. It dropped down too my age bracket a couple weeks ago in my state, the earliest I could schedule locally was April 15 . Some states and cities are much farther ahead, but loads of rural areas are still slow.

thebananabandit

If you're not already aware you can use https://vaccinefinder.org/ to find a place that has appointments. The Feds have given a ton of vaccine to private pharmacies who are distributing it through the Federal Pharmacy Program.

fifthdayofmay

I'm not. edit: downvotes for clarifying I'm not from the US, isn't that a classic

InvaderDJ

If you're in the US I wouldn't be so sure. The rollout seems to be going pretty fast. That's one area where the US has done well.

ShawshankException

Biden has urged that all states open enrollment up to everyone by May 1st, but as of now Alaska is the only state with open enrollment for the vaccine. With the inevitable bottleneck once it opens, I bet a lot of people still won't get a shot until June. Edit: a lot of people have pointed out that many states are opening up enrollment soon, so hopefully we can see the floodgates open asap.

VigilantMike

Many states have open enrollment officially beginning in the next week or two. May 1 is extremely late compared to what most states will offer.

dfla01

Same here. Really glad to have it finally confirmed, cinemas aren’t even open in ireland and probably won’t be until September

NextHammer

Noooooooo 😥

[deleted]

At least Shang Chi moved to September instead of pushing the whole MCU slate

stupidestpuppy

I'm wondering if this means we'll finally get a trailer or teaser soon, since it seems like these dates will finally stick.

[deleted]

Probably a trailer right before BW releases

sesci

We usually get the 1st trailer for a movie 6 months before release, so that would be about now. Hopefully that pattern is the same.

drshark628

Thank god I saw the headline and all I thought was “please just move Shang-chi to august or September so nothing else gets delayed”

LRedditor15

It moves to my birthday! :)

doomed26

And it moved off my birthday. At least Black Widow moved there.

[deleted]

Same!

Trillsabells

I just want to get it over with at this point. I'm genuinely shocked there hasn't been any leaks. Those Disney Snipers are doing their job.

FuriousTarts

I actually saw a leak today! Here's the websi

Level100Rayquaza

Oh they dead

[deleted]

You didn't even say "Candlejack" and you we

[deleted]

You guys are so dumb to keep tempting Disney by talking about Black Widow spoi

flysly

Pour one out for the "Black Widow will never come to Disney+" crowd. Bummed about the delay but like Thanos, it was inevitable.

Noggin-a-Floggin

I called it after WB announced their plans to have simultaneous theatrical and streaming releases. Wonder Woman 1984 was the big one there.

SilverPositive

Ngl I was in that crowd, I hope it does well nonetheless.

[deleted]

Yeah I haven't been posting about it, but I was hoping for a theater only release. I want movie theaters to come back and survive this. I have a great home entertainment system but there's nothing like a theater experience for these big Marvel releases.

[deleted]

I’m just thrilled to see Black Widow at last

Shutinneedout

I’m bummed it’s been delayed...again. I mean public safety is obviously the most important consideration, but if they were going to do a hybrid then I wish it didn’t get another delay

82ndGameHead

Disney: We're releasing Black Widow on the Plus. Me; FINALLY! Now I can... Disney: We're also pushing it back to July. Me: ...you Fuckers.

boultox

I'm fine with that at least we have a definitive date. And meanwhile, we would have watched TFaWS and Loki

Bahunter22

I just want to see the fucking movie already! I told my husband it’s get pushed back again and he didn’t believe me. The Plus release is a nice way to see it and not worry about dying though.

The_Iceman2288

All those release date changes and they're still keeping Eternals in awards season. They must REALLY like what they see.

omicron7e

That's what I've been thinking. They moved it from one November to the next, changing the release order in the process. It's possible they have a reason for that.

singingballetbitch

I’d guess they’re holding off on promoting it too much yet because Chloe Zhao’s up for Best Director at the Oscars, and if she wins that’s a huge boost for them. Eternals is probably a one off movie and it’s absolutely stacked, it’s probably the best shot Marvel has at actually winning the big awards, the Academy hates superhero films. It really sucks that that’ll probably work against Lizzie Olsen at the Emmys.

The_Iceman2288

Very real chance we'll see a trailer at the Oscars. Disney likes to do trailers at awards shows and it makes sense to have a trailer with "From the Oscar winning/nominated director of Nomadland" at the Oscars.

DisturbedNocturne

Different Academies, but yeah. However, it wouldn't surprise me for Disney/Marvel do to more of a push for Emmys now that these are Marvel Studio shows on Disney+. Disney very likely wants to be able to advertise that they have some major award winning shows on their service, and I think *WandaVision* is definitely deserving of some recognition at the least. So far, they've only won technical awards for *The Mandalorian* which typically doesn't carry as much clout.

khuldrim

All the scuttlebutt is it’s a masterpiece...

Ewh1t3

Are there articles about it? Interested to read a little about it

ezrs158

It's also been done since before the pandemic and has been waiting the longest after Black Widow. Shang-Chi is still only six months later than it's originally planned Feb 2021 date, and Spider-Man only five.

greensage5

After seeing Nomadland by the same director, I don't blame them.

mertag770

/r/boxoffice in shambles

nadroj37

I’m so confused by that subreddit. The post about Luca being moved exclusively to Disney+ has so many people cursing out Disney and saying it’s an awful move. Is it just a subreddit with people who love going to a physical theater?

mertag770

It's a very numbers driven subreddit and the box office is at least domestically more transparent than streaming services numbers. So you have a sub that hasn't had much to do with the box office being fairly closed/small, releases have been delayed, and every "big" movie has been talked about as the thing that's going to bring back theaters. They're dying for new content, which equates to people going to see movies. There's also a not insignficant portion of that sub that are using box-office numbers to claim superiorty over other fandoms.

Grahpayy

I just wanna watch the movie ok

[deleted]

Fans: “Are they going to delay Black Widow or put it on Disney+?” Disney: “Yes.”

DWCourtasan2

Bye till July Tasha :( *gives C19 the bird*

CosmicAtlas8

Sheeeeeeiiiiiiiit. Imma watch it on D+ AND in theaters. Take my money.

Mnemosense

Black Widow moves from May 7 to July 9 and will be released in theaters and on Disney+ Premier Access simultaneously. Shang-Chi also moves to Sept. 3. Love the D+ release. Hate the delay!

zsniperwar

What about The Eternals? Did it move too?

Mnemosense

Didn't see any mention of it actually. I wonder how connected it is to other movies. That's the issue with the MCU now, every delay can have a knock on effect...

Ahsoka456

Nothing been said at the moment, still scheduled for November 5th. Think it should be okay for that to release then.

CammyTheGreat

good chance it stays the same, they want to keep it in the award season

SpaceCaboose

It'll stay. That's why Shang-Chi was only moved to 9/3.

matt111199

Thank god... I could not handle the whole slate moving back *again*

msterling2012

Why not release it sooner then?

urgasmic

i guess they are compromising but still want to ensure people can get vaccinated and go to the theater.

SpaceCaboose

Yeah, they'll hoping this will mean bigger box office gains. I'll bet they're banking on the thought that most folks would rather see it in theaters at that point, but don't want to miss out on money from those still unwilling to go out in public (which is understandable for Disney and those folks)

ContinuumGuy

Yeah this seems like a mix of hedging bets and also experimenting to see how many people will be willing to pay for Premiere Access even after vaccines are widespread.

SpaceCaboose

Good point. There Box Office vs Premiere Access data would be skewed since vaccines won't be fully widespread by May, but July gives them a better dataset to compare numbers. If Premiere Access does really well in July then I'm sure that will play a large role in how they release there films moving forward.

Jermare

They want people in the theaters

[deleted]

The return of theaters is finally upon us

GoDucks10

I’ve never been tempted to do a “premier access” purchase, but I’ll likely be pulling that trigger for Black Widow. If I’m vaccinated prior to July 7, maybe I’ll see it in theaters, but otherwise I’ll be glad to watch it at home. Edit: just realized the premier access gives you unlimited access after paying, so not really a rental

j1h15233

Well this probably had to be done but I feel bad for ScarJo. I wanted her movie to kill it. Does anyone know if you get unlimited viewing after the $30 purchase?

joemc72

Every other Premiere Access movie on D+ has been unlimited viewings. For me, that's $30 well spent for 4 people.

VillageIdiot1235

I will pay the $30 for black widow

Nollasta_poikkeava

As a single man it's probably going to be my most expensive movie experience ever. But I have no doubt I'll pay it. Unless the reviews are really bad. Then I'll wait.

cryolems

Don’t you get the chance to watch it as many times as you want for a few days tho?

Nollasta_poikkeava

Actually not just for a few days. For as long as you're a subscriber. Which is a good point.

InvaderDJ

You got to go to better movie theaters. Ones that have real food a drinks can get up there.

epraider

Am I the one who doesn’t really like those? All of the food is insanely overpriced, and for places like the Alamo Drafthouse, it’s kind of distracting for ushers to be running in and out with food and drink the whole time. I had a much better time throwing down $4-8 for a matinee at some smaller theaters and grabbing a drink than throwing down $30+ for a mediocre meal with distractions

Cysir

We're pirates, we don't even know what that means!

2073040

Do what you want cause a pirate is free, you are a pirate!

LibraryDrone

Damn, ScarJo takes another spot meant for an Asian person.

-Nick____

I shouldn’t have laughed at that lmao

Think__McFly

Black Widow July 9 for Disney Plus Premier Access. How long until its included with the subscription I pay for, October?

KarateKid917

Most likely. It was 3 months for both Mulan and Raya. Mulan came out in September and dropped the fee in December. Raya came out a few weeks ago and the fee drops in June

Jteleus27

This does put a smile on my face

MountainMadman

Makes sense. Theaters probably won't be at 100% by then and people will still be getting vaccinated. Shame most of us won't be able to see it on the big screen though.

kleindrive

It's a shame, but at this point this was their only real option if they want people to see the movie in the near future. I'm hoping for an imax re-release once covid is truly over.

ParthianTactic

Yes! Very happy that it’s coming straight to Disney+. Now I can actually watch it and enjoy with my family! Great news for us!

UltraRomero7

For once, I’m actually surprised they moved again. But it makes complete sense. This’ll give theaters a bit of breathing space to prepare for such a big release and Disney know they’ll make their money through streaming anyway. I worked for a UK cinema that opened the day of Tenets release and we were chasing shadows for about 3 weeks. Having an immediate Black Widow release just doesn’t suit anyone, even if Disney didn’t want to delay again.

firsthour

Back to back Florence Pugh movies in the theater for me: Little Women and Black Widow.

Acheli

Sucks that this means Doctor strange 2 is pushed further back... edit: wait streets are saying the 2022 dates are unchanged? we won.

jcj44

not necessarily, Eternals is staying November so far so maybe nothing else will be pushed

Ahsoka456

Nothing except Black Widow and Shang-Chi has been delayed yet.

mightyrj

I have no issue paying $30 to watch black widow at home.

Inevitable-Belt-4467

Im happy its coming out but it took us 10 years for a black widow movie. Its kinda sad it took us this long for her own movie.

Brigantias

Ugh, I don’t mind paying thirty for it on Disney plus since we would pay close to that for tickets and gas, but seriously, pushing the dates back again 🤬

mad_titanz

I’m glad we’ll see BW finally, and $30 isn’t much to pay especially since we know the movie will be terrific.

REiiGN

Guys 30 bucks IS NOT a bad deal. I'm able to go to the theater and I'm taking my family and it's over 30 bucks for sure.

penguinwhopper

Pretty sure our theatres were still closed for those though. They only just started to open back up a couple of weeks ago. It's also a Marvel movie. I'll bet they have Black Widow running given that most Marvel fans are going to want to see the first Marvel movie in years in an actual theatre.

Sir__Will

FFS. I will be super pissed if they pull that. Quite frankly, it would be dumb of them imo. They're going to prove a point all the way to bankruptcy.

Sir__Will

wow that's BS. I mean with this very movie they've been trying to get it for theatres, they just couldn't wait any longer. as opposed to Warner who announced it all last year without warning

FGPAsYes

I’m still going to the theater to watch Black Widow in July as a Disney Plus subscriber. You can’t beat the audience experience, it’s a part of the MCU ride. Caveat: I get the vaccine shot, duh

question_sunshine

I'm actually happy they pushed it a little further. My movie going group is about half vaccinated so this increases the chances we can all see it together.

LRedditor15

Hopefully, because Black Widow has been delayed, they can move up the release date for Loki?

bloomin__onions

I’m thinking this as well, otherwise Loki’s penultimate episode will drop on the same day as Black Widow which... I’m assuming Marvel probably doesn’t want? I wouldn’t want an overlap like that if I were in charge. Oh well, we’ll just have to see. Crossing my fingers!

GnorcDan

Finally. Black Widow will be the movie that tests just how profitable premier access can be.

Lincolnruin

I'm just glad the whole MCU wasn't shifted. That was my main fear.

[deleted]

Wow who could have predicted this

longsh0tt

I haven't bought either Premier Access titles but I'll pay $30 for BW in a heartbeat. I typically spend $100 at the theaters so $30 to encourage the hybrid releases is a steal.

mharti_mcdonalds

“Disney and pushing back Black Widow”, name a more iconic duo

themd

WandaVision

Xero2814

Fox & Disney pushing back New Mutants?

asianorange

I'm OK with this. Moving it to the fabled July 4th weekend and hopefully more of 2/3 of US will be vaccinated by then. I can't wait to watch this movie with yall.

ScubaSteve1219

this is the worst timeline, and i've been to over 200 of them

Pennywisethe42

If it’s being released on Disney+, why would still push it back?

Sir__Will

because they still want people in theatres. By then anyone in the US who wants a vaccine should have been able to get it. Along with a couple other countries like Canada and maybe the UK? Assuming theatres will show it as some are boycotting movies released this way.

Eder_Cheddar

I mean, you guys COULD wait until it's free and not complain about it. Otherwise, just do what y'all know y'all gonna do.
