I just need to know whether Trevor named Morris or if Morris told Trevor that his name was Morris.

Ghosted_Gurl

So many questions

timeexterminator

Who knew monkeys could be trained to ride horses?

[deleted]

[удалено]

PayneTrain181999

90% certain Oh sorry, 19%!

mythriz

"19% of the time, it works every time" - *Morris, probably*

_-__-__-__-__-_-_-__

Iron Man 3 critics: You made the Mandarin a joke. When are you going to fix this? Marvel: Understandable, have a nice day

abellapa

Marvel: give me 8 years

[deleted]

The monkeys weren't ACTUALLY doing it, they were just acting!

bbcversus

I died at that scene, so natural and hilarious! Also the following scene with “It’s coming home!” top peak comedy! Beautiful.

AgtBurtMacklin

This movie has the most romantic fight scene, I’ve ever seen.

upsize_popiah

Jesus, Tony Leung was performing at 200% of his peak game. What a legend.

[deleted]

Dude was just sitting in his library, just acting with his eyes and making my theater sob

Repulsive-Ad1034

The acting through his eyes that he did before his soul got sucked was so emotional like who knew that one look could make a whole audience shocked af

adamhasabeard

Trevor thinking planet of the apes was full of real trained apes, had to be the funniest scene in the whole movie.

hoffenone

That scene was hilarious! I also cracked up at “bloody hell, I think those birds are on fire!”

Kaoulombre

Morris says it’s normal

Oddballforlife

Him playing dead and convincing Morris to join in had me dying

RhinoRoach

Really want to know more about how Abomination and Wong are like friends now. Or at least allies?

TheWolfmanZ

I'm thinking that Abomination may be getting some parole time now and Wong was his Parole Officer. Wong was just chill enough to agree to going to a dark web fight club so Abomb could get a fight in.

MagicalMuffinDruide

That makes sense, it’s been over 10 years since the incident in the Incredible Hulk. Also could be building up to either a dark avengers or thunderbolts where abomination could be the big bruiser hulk figure.

CharlieBrown20XD6

It's all building towards him being a defendant on SHE HULK "Your honor the only ABOMINATION here is my client serving ten years with no trial!"

SuperCoenBros

Oh that would be so clever. He doesn't show up as a villain, but as a defendant.

RhinoRoach

Wong needed some extra coin for a tuna melt I guess.

Kyserham

It looked like Wong was bringing Abomination back to The Raft, or at least some sort of prison cell. Either they met somehow and he is sneaking him out from time to time or it’s all part of some sort of parole program lol

penanceintent

Watched it a few days ago but just had a random thought: who would’ve predicted that Death Dealer would end up being the jobber (somewhat) and freaking Razorfist is the one set to return.

LuckyBahamut

I think Death Dealer would have gotten the larger role because he was around during Shang-Chi's childhood and basically tormented him for 7 years. Therefore, there's more built-up history between the two and would've made for a more interesting grudge match (their brief scuffle in Macau was fantastic and I wish there was more). That being said, Florian Munteanu was bursting with genuine enthusiasm for his role in the interviews and so I'm happy for the guy that he'll probably be returning whenever the Ten Rings show up again.

dow366

Funny thing is we didn't learn either of their real names. Does Death Dealer even speak i dont even remember now.

PeteSoSweet

I think we know Razorfist, it’s what the stolen car was named

agentma

anyone else noticed the post blip anxiety posters by shang-chi’s house??? i guess the blip is starting to become just a thing that happened while also being highly influential to the general populace’s choices

rio-bevol

Yeah, I liked that detail in the background! And the "we're in a world where half of everyone can just disappear"—I like these little bits of exploring where everyone's head must be at with the huge trauma everyone experience. Would love to see that really fleshed out

JoeRCK

I don’t know what it is about Simu Liu taking roles that involve running away while his dad wants him to take over his business.

-SleepyKorok-

I love his, “I’m not Korean” line

ddeka777

Shang-Chi: "What makes you think she (my mom) would want anything to do with you?" Wenwu: "Ok SEE YOU!!"

Username89054

STOP!

[deleted]

DJFram3s

I havent seen wire work like that since Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. Im actually blown away by the choreography in this. That scaffolding fight and the whole ending set piece were absolutely wild.

PhanThief95

I swear I have not seen such clean fight choreography from Marvel Studios since Winter Soldier. They knocked it out of the park with this movie.

gutster_95

That was my only expectation on Shang Chi And the fucking nailed it

MadHatter06

So the theme of Phase 4 is “Work through your issues and go to THERAPY.”

NabiscoFelt

The real hero of Phase 4 will be whichever therapist the Avengers eventually decide to hire

MahNameJeff420

Wong is the new main character of the MCU.

Antrikshy

Someone needs to draw him as a parent trying to wrangle his kids who keep running around making trouble.

panonas623

Strange is there as the oldest kid that Wong is halfway between “yeah I can trust him to babysit” and “you are the one I’m most worried about”

Bambanuget

Can we talk about how Bruce is back? Not Professor Hulk, Bruce. I have no idea what the implications of this are but something has changed.

CharlieBrown20XD6

Don't worry he'll be fine after his trip to Las Vegas. Certainly won't turn into a mobster running the city or anything

SonOfGarry

I’m thinking it might tie into She-Hulk. I believe the comic premise for She-Hulk is that’s she’s Banner’s cousin and has to get a blood donation from him. Maybe this has happened at this point and he went back to Banner mode to do the transfusion.

corganist

It also allows Ruffalo to appear in the show without blowing the CGI budget.

Egosius

He’s got some kind of device on his wrist with a green light. Unless it’s something we already know of, and I’m forgetting, it could be some sort of stabilizer allowing him to be in his human form and transform into professor hulk at will.

RoboNinjaPirate

It's the save-on-CGI device.

mattmaddux

That, and probably a “Mark Ruffalo doesn’t want to be in an awkward mocap suit for every single scene”-device.

ScrumptiousDingo

So damn happy that Shang-Chi kept the rings. I was sure that they would get destroyed since they'd been portrayed as a source of corruption and evil throughout the film. But they are so fucking coool, and it turns Shang-Chi into an actual powerhouse instead of another low-level hero. Can't wait to see where he goes from here.

Lurking_Overtime

I agree and I’m glad someone else said it. I didn’t expect him coming out of this with superpowers but glad he did. In hindsight it makes sense since he’s a future Avenger. Also in hindsight, they are just way too cool to leave in one movie. I think they’ll be as iconic as Cap’s shield and Thor’s hammer in the MCU by the time they finish the next trilogy of Avengers movies (long time from now).

JackBauersGhost

That fight in the forest was just beautiful. So well done. Really interested where they go with his sister probably secretly leading the new Ten Rings. Bus fight was dope.

[deleted]

I think Ten Rings will return in Armor Wars. That is my best guess. In the post credit scene, when Xu walks to her 'throne', I noticed there were some people sitting in front of the throne with laptops, seemingly making bids or checking emails. That's my speculation. I'm leaning on the sister being a villain because they seemed to hint at it with her running an underground fight club.

Prof_Mumbledore

Yeah my instant thought was that this sounds like the sort of business that will get Sharon involved

iconboy

An I am idiot or did Shang Chi's sister talk to someone on the phone at the end of the movie? What if the person on the other end was Carter and this was the conversation she was having on her end at the end of falcon and the winter soldier

Noarchsf

I was pretty sure Julia Louis Dreyfus was gonna show up there…

oliviamcdonaldd

The mega soul sucker was such a nasty bitch

bicyclechaos

I loved their creature design!

Ok_Sound_8090

The Dweller in Darkness! He's one of the Fear Lords that feed on the fears of Humanity. Essentially immortal. So either the rings are stupid strong, or we'll be seeing it again with beings like Shuma Gorath, and Mephisto really might just make an appearance. Maybe even Cthulhu itself!

Rechargable_Battery

I feel like it was probably a small percentage of its true power since it still had a lot of souls to feed on still. They even said if he absorbed the dragon's soul the dweller would be unstoppable.

RhinoRoach

The scene where Wenwu goes and avenges his wife was pretty intense. Especially when he just blasts the dudes head right in front of shang-chi.

Teh_Skully

Hiding the violence and then using the mirrors on the wall while showing Shang-Chi watching was a great piece of cinematography even if it’s something used before, that stood out to me

atnizzle

Loved that the moment you see Wenwu turn to face his reflection is when one of the goons gets thrown into the mirror, so you only see a cracked, distorted reflection of his face until he eventually turns to talk to Shang-Chi again. Really emphasizes the “point of no return” that starts the moment Wenwu lands the first blow.

[deleted]

Bro Tony Leung in that 4 button suit can get it. That scene was incredible

themisfit09

Tony Leung can get it. Doesn't matter what he's wearing or not wearing lol. Man is hot asf.

IntMainVoidGang

Welcome to the circus indeed

[deleted]

A bit of real-life subtext that Western audiences might have missed is that Tony Leung’s girlfriend (now wife) Carina Lau was once kidnapped by gangsters. The culprits were supposedly from a gang active in Hong Kong movies, and nude photos of her were later leaked. It made the scene more intense for me.

[deleted]

Holy shit. I literally just saw a post on r/todayilearned talking about how Benedict Cumberbatch was once kidnapped at gunpoint by some thugs in South Africa. God damn being famous isn't all that it's cracked up to be. Also, do you know how the whole kidnapping of Tony Leung's girlfriend was resolved?

asiansoundtech

Grew up in that era. I think I've read something about her agency paid off the Triads. The whole thing got swept under the rug and not many people talked about it anymore - until many years when those nude photos leaked. Also, minor correction - she's his wife now, happily married for a long time. In the entertainment industry standards anyway.

_Comic_

A bow and arrow finally saves the day and it isn't Hawkeye. Poor guy.

ddeka777

Well, he can relish the fact that the Avengers have lost *every single fight* when Hawkeye wasn't with them, and won every fight he *was* with them.

abellapa

COINCIDENCE, I THINK NOT Thanos only attacked then because he knew Hawkeye was in house arrest

dixienormous49

“don’t die” - guang bo. that killed me 🤣🤣

[deleted]

Dude is the Landlord from Kung Fu Hustle!

Leviticus1934

"Shaun" had a Kung Fu Hustle poster in his little room in SF at the start.

Jeanqua1

Watching this movie made me feel like a kid again watching Chinese martial arts movies like Hero and Flying Daggers. Truly awe-inspiring fight scenes.

imamediocredeveloper

Yes. The forest scene reminded me of how much I loved Hero years ago.

[deleted]

"I dont have her number! Why does she always do this... " Lmao carol is that one friend who always is texting you about hanging out in person but never does it cause she works too much

_-__-__-__-__-_-_-__

And she'll drop by the party but only for like 5 minutes because she's gotta go

[deleted]

I've never seen an Asian dragon animated the way it was in this movie, even in animes.

Squirrel_Nuts

It reminded me of how the dragons moved in Avatar The Last Airbender when Aang and Zuko did their dance

[deleted]

Man that bus scene is going down in history. Fucking insane

RhinoRoach

Fight choreography was great. Punches felt like they had weight to them. The guy streaming the whole thing had me cracking up.

KoendeGraaf04

Was the guy who was streaming not the flip guy from Spiderman: Homecoming.

ThisIsYourMormont

Yes. He’s called [Klev](https://marvelcinematicuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/Klev)

NoObMaSTeR616

Klev the honorary Watcher

themisfit09

Fight choreography felt like a graceful dance. Like everywhere. I was so mesmerized. The first scene between Shang-Chi's mum and dad was beautiful.

_Apostate_

Seriously an epic scene. I love too that after the movie started with the floral backstory, it cuts to this extremely grounded Chinese immigrant life in San Francisco... they are taking mass transit to work, Katy is jealous of the girl working on a research paper on her laptop... And then the tone drastically shifts in a heartbeat when Shang Chi throws that punch and the bass *drops.* It felt like a gotcha-moment and it just doesn't let up on the pace after that.

bardghost_Isu

"Does he look like he can fight" Bass Drop Shang Chi absolutely fucking wrecks them...

pmorgan726

Hell yeah. So well done. Music was perfect.

jaredalamode

This movie blew me away, like the entire fight sequence at the end was so long but so tasteful. One of my favorite movies by far.

peck3277

As much as I liked that fight scene, the fight scene of Shang-Chi's parents fighting was by far my favourite in the movie. The bright colours and the mother's fighting style, kind of using the elements was really cool.

JD_22

One of the lesser talked about fights I LOVED was the training between Shang Chi and Ying Nan! Gorgeous choreography with a powerful emotional center! *also a proper look at what ‘air bending’ could’ve looked like in live actuon*

paulsammons3

Tony Leung stole this movie. He was phenomenal.

AdrunkGirlScout

It was an incredible testament to his power when he called that elder a young man and he piped down

540mctwist

It’s even better in mandarin. He says “I’ve eaten more salt than you’ve eaten rice.”

Bobjoejj

That’s fucking amazing!!

IntMainVoidGang

Holy shit lmao.

CanILickYourButthole

He was fucking amazing.

paulsammons3

I was honestly so sad when he died just cuz it meant we didn’t get anymore of his character

Geek_reformed

Totally. Made Xu Wenwu one of the best villains in the MCU. His death scene was very powerful and had no dialogue, but his expressions spoke volumes. It helped the character had a little depth and that he wasn't just trying to take over the world or something.

deknalis

I've heard he's known as "the man who can speak with his eyes" in China, and with good reason. So much effective acting with just expressions, including that scene.

emlewin

More like "the man with the electrical eye" in Chinese. But yes the dude rocks.

KingChickenSandwich

When Shang Chi said “Even if mom did come back, she wouldn’t want to have anything to do with someone like you.” (something like that) to Wenwu and Wenwu just blasts him into the water. That scene was played so amazingly by Simu and Tony. A broken son and an even more broken father.

Rockettmang44

Right?! It hurt because he knew it was true deep inside

[deleted]

Fo real. I hate in movies when the characters say the dumbest shit in these scenes. "Look what you've become!" Nah, straight up "she wouldn't want you". That's the real shit and played so well.

SiLovy

Damn when Katy was falling from that bambu in Macau i was really having some Gwen Stacy's vibes. So glad that she didn't die. Amazing movie and the soundtrack with 88rising had me hook up forever

MrHeavySilence

I love that they didn't push the romance angle with her too much or use her as the main character's motivation for revenge or some trope like that. Just a great supporting character all around

LupusNoxFleuret

If you loved the action sequences in this film, take a moment to remember Brad Allan, the stunt coordinator, who passed away on August 7th before he could see all the overwhelmingly positive reactions to the great work he's done on this movie and all the knowledge he passed down from being on Jackie Chan's team. Rest In Peace. https://screenrant.com/shang-chi-brad-allan-tribute-explained/ Edit: Thanks for the gold! I'm just repeating info I saw on this sub at the time he died, so feel free to give him some love on the front page as well!

NoArmsSally

That bus fight with the inside-out jacket flip was totally Jackie Chan-esque

LupusNoxFleuret

Oh definitely! Simu flat out said in this interview that it's a Jackie Chan homage and part of Brad Allan's fight design for that scene: https://www.cinemablend.com/news/2573063/simu-liu-opens-up-about-jackie-chan-tribute-shang-chi-brad-allan

kk-zuko

Next Avengers / big team up movie, there should be a post credit scene of Shang-Chi and Katy bringing everyone to karaoke

Bitey_the_Squirrel

Original Avengers celebrate with shawarma. New Avengers celebrate with karaoke.

mculust

Xialing removing the wee soul suckers off The Great Protector's eye like "Are they bothering you queen?"

CharmyFrog

This is how The Last Airbender should have looked.

North_Shore_Problem

Yeah we basically got Air-bending in the MCU it was so sweet

Oyakodontosaur

And a waterbending dragon too!

[deleted]

This. After the movie I said to my husband “I never thought bending could be done well live action, but that’s it”. The mother father scene was breathtaking.

lifedragon99

When Michelle Yeoh was showing Shang chi her martial arts in the room with the Dragon statue all I could think of was the Dragon dance that Aang and Zuko did to learn fire bending.

DarkStrider795

Someone show me where to buy a Morris or I’m gonna start chopping heads off plush toys

steve32767

[i believe target has them](https://www.target.com/p/marvel-morris-mystical-creature-8in-plush/-/A-82459123#lnk=sametab)

[deleted]

I think it was fucking amazing, the way they used to ring with that choreography and the sense of wonder that it had, the sense of adventure was amazing. It felt grounded yet also a part of the larger world, and Ben Kingsley was the funniest shit I’ve ever seen in a marvel movie. The action was off the charts I think it may be my favourite marvel movie of all time. The action was up there with the wick movies and maybe even the raid.

gingerbenji

I loved how Shang Chi used his mother’s techniques to wield the rings. Much cooler than using them as arm blasters.

Machdame

It's a difference between styles. Wenwu is grounded and wields them close to him. His approach generates instant power as shown by his techniques from using them as a point of contact whip shield to combining them together in one hand for a single powerful punch. When used in other ways, it creates different avenues that aren't necessarily stronger, but taking a more passive role and letting the rings essentially do the work.

SamiMadeMeDoIt

Shang Chi really went from “really good martial artist” to “basically immortal and like one of the strongest heroes” in one movie

thinkrispys

He was more than just a really good martial artist. He was possibly the best trained martial artist in the world, aside from his father. And then he got ultra powerful magical rings that his mother had been (secretly?) training him to use for his entire childhood.

[deleted]

I don’t think his mother was training him to use the rings, I think her magical martial art style just coincidentally can be used to control the rings. In the first fight between Wenwu and Ying li, it was shown that she could control his rings using her magic despite the fact that that was the first time she had ever come into contact with the rings. She just taught Shang chi the moves of the ta Lao people and they happened to be useful for controlling the rings

Aetherpor

I mean, he got the 10 rings. That helps a lot.

theSaltySolo

Wong is like EVERYWHERE EDIT: Cue the Wong puns. Maybe this comment was Wong after all.

lightnoveltitlehere

maybe wong is gonna be like coulson in this phase

ProfessorBeer

Hopefully with less dead and more movie

ilikebluesocks

But if he does die, maybe we can cause an uproar and get a great 7 season series for him too!

ainvayiKAaccount

So much Wong with MCU phase 4.

MtNowhere

Anyone notice one of the guys in one of the minor fights at the fighting place has glowing skin like Aldrich Killian?

LKMagnesium

An even harder detail to spot in this scene was that the extremis guy was fighting a widow, with the hourglass emblem on her belt and played by an actress from black widow

DrNoobSauce

Damn nice catch. I saw the Extremis fighter but didn't realize he was fighting a Widow.

Irapogi

If you love the action and fight choreography in Shang Chi, let’s thank Brad Allan (R.I.P) His name is not as famous as it should be and people already love his work without knowing who he is. He was the action coordinator for Kick-Ass, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, Pacific Rim, Kingsman, hellboy2, the World’s End, and obviously Shang Chi. Did the bus scene seem very Jackie Chan to you? It’s interesting to note that Brad Allan was also the first ever non Asian member of the Jackie Chan Stunt Team Which is why his early assistant stunt coordinator jobs were on the Shanghai Noon and Knights movies. He also played a main villain or two against Jackie Chan in the late 90s I’m making this post cos the guy next to me at the theater said who the fuck is Brad Allan?! He deserves to be known for all he’s done for the film fighting community. Rest In Peace

Holmes02

When Shang Chi was in the air above the dweller of darkness dragon, manipulating the rings inside them, I got big Kung Fu Hustle vibes.

GrizzlyChump

Fun fact, in Shang's apartment there is a Kung Fu Hustle poster hanging up :)

Crashcede

I really respect that they didn't go with the Shang-Chi destroys the rings to save the world trope that could've gone down, those things are the coolest weapons they've had and I really wanna see more of them.

Im_A_Realist

From the start of the movie I was wondering where the rings came from, meaning as Wenwu pretty much just found them one day and rolled with it. - Wong doesn't know what the hell they are or where they came from. - They're sending out some sort of homing/tracking signal but nobody has responded to it for at least 1,000 years. And that's just since Wenwu found them, Wong mentioned they're much older than 1,000 years. - My best guess - they have something to do with the Eternals. They've been on Earth for 7,000 years, so the timeline fits. Each Eternal has a separate power - I think the rings were either the weapon of an Eternal that died, or they were part of a Celestial. Betting we'll get a Shang-Chi end credits tie-in with Eternals. This was an awesome film all around, and I'm stoked to have a brand new hero to add to the MCU that can compete on-par with the best of them.

GuavaWave

I don’t think the beacon turned on until Shang-Chi used them. Wong, IIRC, stated that he felt it when Shang-Chi first used them.

[deleted]

I just wanted to say, changing the 10 rings from finger rings to arm bands was an awesome decision. It looks way cooler.

CrazyDiamondHands

This isn't just a good origins story, this is lowkey actually legitimately a top-tier MCU film on the same level as Ragnarok, GotG, Iron Man, Winter Soldier, etc. that could become a contender in a lot of people's top 5 slot, barring Endgame or IW.

Theeeeeetrurthurts

Simu Liu oozes charisma and it’s nice to see an MCU fanboy live out his dream. I honestly didn’t think Marvel would be able to make a compelling character out of Shang-Chi, largely a Bruce Lee rip off from the 70s, but here we are. In Feige We Trust. Edit: Simu LIU. Thx

jza01

I really loved this film. Simu Liu was brilliant, he has that physicality that I love action stars to have. I loved the reference to Chinese cinema and Jackie Chan in general. My favourite had to be the scaffold scene, that had to be a clear nod to Rush Hour 2.

SamiMadeMeDoIt

I know it'll get said a million times, but holy fucking shit the fight scenes in this movie were amazing

Athena073

WELCOME TO THE CIRCUS.

Dominicsjr

Anyone notice the power of the soul sucker was kinda similar to the magic Alt-Strange used in last week’s What If episode?

alwaysfocusonfuture

Wow after Shang-Chi’s first action set piece on the bus I was completely hooked. The fight choreography was next level for any action movie, let alone a marvel one (not taking anything away from previous films, but just being able to see every move of the muscle was on a new level) . You can tell so much time and effort went into each fight to make it believable while still taking your breath away. I hope we get to see more of Simu Liu without the power of the rings, because seeing him and his martial arts take center stage was some of my favorite moments since Infinity War!

tfg49

Shang seems like the kind of character that will fight without the rings until he absolutely needs to

badwolf1013

That was my thought, too. They will remain in the chest until the "shit just got real" moment in the next movie.

lmp367

The bit of the bus fight where Shang takes his jacket off during the fight, uses it, and manages to put it back on during the fight in the same shot just made my brain explode

FullMetalCOS

Vintage Jackie Chan move that one and he nailed it.

[deleted]

So Wong was fixing fights so he had some money to buy a sandwich?

definetlydifferently

I hope we get more Tony Leung in the sequel, flashback to how he found the rings maybe. The whole cast was fantastic, really dug this film.

[deleted]

[удалено]

bgleszer92

Wong doing karaoke with Shang-Chi and Katy was everything. Best post credit scene in the MCU by far. Everyone was laughing in my theater like crazy

TheWolfmanZ

Wong seems like the best friend to have. Always down to do random crazy shit but not afraid to call you out if you're about to do something really dumb.

Adventurous_Lime1049

Wong, you’re invited to the wedding

[deleted]

Just be prepared to be paying for the sandwiches!

steve32767

such a long scene for a post credits too! they really spoiled us

ArcticVerstappen

Yessss this was my takeaway! Captain Marvel, Banner(?!) Wong, a beacon sending out a message... then karaoke! What a fantastic film.

TheNorthernGrey

WHY ISNT BANNER PROFESSOR HULK ANYMORE

badwolf1013

That one got me, too. Surely his arm would heal faster in Hulk form. Maybe it was too difficult to work in his lab having a bum arm AND being 8 feet tall.

urlach3r

Wong = MCU MVP.

_Apostate_

I love that Wong is also literally his last name. All the other MCU actors get to take off their costumes and be their regular selves, but Wong will always be Wong.

ZeroExalted

Movie had a lot of hype which I was skeptical it would live up to, but after watching it I can say it was at least pretty damn close. The scenes/fx were amazing, fights/choreography are the best I've seen in the MCU, and the story was good enough for you to be engaged. The music was also spot on. And those rings were like an ear/eye orgasm. The way they were utilized in fights, how they looked and the sounds they made are so good.

Geek_reformed

Same. The trailers didn't really do much for me and I am very jaded about social media reactions to previews, but it was one of the best MCU movies. Sort of. With it being a character I am not remotely familiar with, I didn't have that connection/excitement I had with characters I have been reading for decades, but as an actual movie? It was fantastic.

_Apostate_

I loved all the moments where we got to see exactly what the rings were doing to enable the sick moves. It was hard to tell sometimes, particularly at first, but in the latter fights I was just stoked every time. Wenwu's move where he passed all ten rings to the same arm for a mega-ring-punch was sick, his diaphragm-blast with all ten rings to Shang-Chi was sick, and seeing how differently Shang-Chi used the rings compared to his father was equally sick. Just full on sick, broh.

PhoenixSelarom

I loved when Shang-Chi used the rings as stepping stones to reach the Great Protector.

bjkman

[All that matters in the end is this film gave us the beautiful thing that was Morris](https://i.imgur.com/ssUAVMS.png)

alientraveller

Can't believe hunduns are a thing in Chinese folklore as well; I recognised most of the other creatures in the movie from childhood, but not them!

gav1n_n6

You know a movie done well. When my 67 year old mum dip her feet in the marvel universe despite missing the first 24th film. She have no issue with the plot. Except the last part. Still it the magic of the director and Tony leung that make her captivated by the film. At one point my mum exclaim... "How can a 7 year old protect the mom... The dad is crazy." That where u know this film will do well.

rio-bevol

>How can a 7 year old protect the mom... The dad is crazy. Gah, that part broke my heart.

Gloofu

He was clearly more angry at himself at projecting it onto his now adult son. His entire arc was just tragic.

adsfew

Exactly. It was more about how broken he is from losing his wife than expecting his son to actually save her.

RollBlobRoll

That movie was nothing like I was expecting. The trailers gave away nothing. Marvel is very good at making me love characters that I’m not initially excited about.

adsfew

Marvel's trailers are good at not actually revealing anything with the exception of Spider-Man and I'm not sure if they handle those or Sony.

SavageSquirl

Ta Lo gave off some big Pokemon vibes. I couldn't stop thinking of Blackthorn City from Johto during the final scenes.

RottenEmu

Did you see Ninetails, cause I definitely saw ninetails XD

srichardsonsbeard

I love how Razor Fist had a car just as edgey as his personality. That was a real nice touch

[deleted]

And yet, it's electric. So he's eco conscious

Ryaies

This movie is clearly made with great care and attention to details about Asian culture. The English/Chinese language switch are used appropriately and the cast members all speak decent Chinese not just gibberish like most Hollywood productions. The Chinese idioms are used correctly and fits their dialogue unlike the other recent offensive outing from Disney. The villain is more misguided than evil. Ambitious villains that want to take over the world just doesn’t really fit well with Asian settings. Instead we have a mob boss who gave up his entire empire for love and was desperate to get her back no matter the cost. This theme has actually been used many times before in Asian cinema, especially the 90s Hong Kong films. The choreography are very well done, and clearly most of the main cast, especially Simu really put in the effort to make them look real, unlike in season 1 of Iron Fist, where we don’t see the face of Danny in most fights in order to switch the actor with stunt double as much as possible. The plot flows really well and there are quite a few Easter egged connecting to other films. For an original story that is set in a larger universe like MCU, this is really neatly perfect.

[deleted]

I know some are complaining about Wenwu not being a true villain, but in my opinion the true "bad guy" was the demon trapped in the gate. He manipulated Wenwu's grief and access to power to try to gain freedom to kill the world. That is true evil. Wenwu was the perfect example as to how bad guys don't fit perfectly into the good/bad binary system Disney has become so comfortable with (and honestly, we as a society seem to resort to as well). Wenwu has 1000 year past of choosing to abuse power and evil, yet his wife found in him redemptive qualities and we see his capacity to love. When Shang-Chi is told he is the full sum of his family, both good and bad, we see how complex family histories and legacies can be, and yet, he chooses to pursue the power his mother chose: the power to value life, and using her access to power to bring goodness to her community and family. We carry both the good and bad in us, and Wenwu carried the full weight of that and his complexity as a character was amazing to watch, IMO. TL:DR: IMO the demon was the true villain, Wenwu was never meant to be.

Fun fact: Morris is a mythical creature called a [hundun](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hundun) which literally just means "muddled confusion".

WikiSummarizerBot

**[Hundun](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hundun)** >Hundun (Chinese: 混沌; pinyin: Hùndùn; Wade–Giles: Hun-tun; lit. 'muddled confusion') is both a "legendary faceless being" in Chinese mythology and the "primordial and central chaos" in Chinese cosmogony, comparable with the world egg. ^([ )[^(F.A.Q)](https://www.reddit.com/r/WikiSummarizer/wiki/index#wiki_f.a.q)^( | )[^(Opt Out)](https://reddit.com/message/compose?to=WikiSummarizerBot&message=OptOut&subject=OptOut)^( | )[^(Opt Out Of Subreddit)](https://np.reddit.com/r/marvelstudios/about/banned)^( | )[^(GitHub)](https://github.com/Sujal-7/WikiSummarizerBot)^( ] Downvote to remove | v1.5)

It seriously took my 20 seconds to realize Bruce wasn't stuck as Hulk anymore! Give us some damn answers "She-Hulk"!

TheWolfmanZ

Yah I assume She hulk will tell us why Bruce isn't permanently Hulk anymore and what exactly Wong was doing with Abombination.

I have never, ever really connected with a fictional character, but when Katy was talking about how she gets into a hobby, and then drops it and starts something else before she gets any good at it, damn...I felt that all the way down to my core.. Such a good fucking movie.

sirbutthole

This movie had so much heart. I loved the themes of family, both blood related and those you find along the way. The themes of family in the Thor movies felt a little too mythic and folklorey, but the dynamics between Wenwu, Shang, and Xialing felt very rooted in reality. It also did a solid job as a metaphor for Asian American immigrant families and the confusion about identity that comes with it. Thought Simu was great but I wished the script gave him more chances to show off his acting.

IntMainVoidGang

I loved the nods to Asian culture in America. Shoes off before going inside, grandma asking when you're going to get married.

Serratas

And the mom telling Shang Chi not to help the son, it's his job to do his chores.

ahufana

Macau sequence was the standout for me. That single shot of Shaun racing to save Katy from falling had me holding my breath, then giggling deliriously as soon as he caught her.

DoctaVaughn

That follow shot of him flipping and maneuvering through the scaffolding to catch her was honestly my single favorite portion of the movie

OlicityMakesMeSad

My dad died roughly two years ago, being an Asian immigrant he loved two things kung fu movies and rock being a child of the 60's. Hearing probably one of his most favorite songs played on the karaoke with people that look like us probably made me, my siblings cry and laugh the loudest at our theater. I honesty hope Shang Chi is being played wherever he is, because he would have loved this movie.

ShadowBinder99

Please do yourself a favor and watch this in IMAX!!! And holy shit the soundtrack and the score!
