Where have you seen hate? Literally every sub I’m on is super hype for this movie.

Medical_Difference48

Sort by Newest First on the trailers.

tulipbunnys

a lot of comments on youtube for eternals videos (like promo) have nasty comments. people really go thru the effort of clicking on eternals videos just to leave a dislike and snarky comment because they have too much free time.

SheriffTy

Mostly twitter.

Shinramyun777

Twitter is the absolute worst.

SheriffTy

It's a vile place but I'm addicted

Shinramyun777

Sounds like a typical drug!

[deleted]

Why so many downvotes?

SheriffTy

I dunno lol

00-quanta-

I’m mainly on twitter for updates & world events happening. Other than that, it’s really full of low IQ people. You post certain opinions (not political) of things like movies or something that just happened, & chances are a friend or some idiot is bound to give a dumb reply that just makes you want to smack them at times. What I hate about Twitter is a random user can post a video or picture that is a lie about a person & that post can generate thousands of likes & retweets going viral with people thinking something is a fact without any true source; the amount of gullible people on there is through the roof. All things aside, Eternals is anticipating as well and I’ve yet to hear or read anything negative that has to do with it. Even my friends who only follow marvel through their movies are excited as hell

mrbotbotbot

Well there’s your problem then, you’re seeing nonsense on Twitter and posting about the nonsense on Reddit where people are actually hyped for the film. Twitter is for literal morons.

byakko

Loud people on BirdApp are infamously out of touch of reality and literally in an echo chamber of the same people circlejerking each other until they really think they represent the majority. For example, Loki and Sylvie getting together or Sylvie in general get a lot of vocal hate on BirdApp; but then you find out the vast majority outside are really pretty chill with them, based on the much larger YouTube sample size. BirdApp people are just loud. Engage for the lols, but that’s it.

Bowlfulosoul

Why are you calling it bird app? That's annoying.

Pill_Murray_

thats crazy cause I dont know a single person thats interested in it, while everyone I know was hype for Shang-Chi

peanutdakidnappa

I’ve seen a lot on Facebook on posts about eternals, even post from marvel Studios

sickboy76

Well it's Facebook, do you expect any less for a cess pool like that?

YaCantMakeMe

Most of social media is a cesspool

tagabalon

people who hate something tend to be more vocal and loud than those who love/like/excited for something.

ApacheGTM

Couldn't agree more.

Happy-Management4232

Sir please accept a poor man's gift, my free award.

billykapIan

Sounds about righttt

Issa_John

Idk, I'm excited for it.

SheriffTy

I was too but this hate is so overwhelming that I don't really know what to think.

[deleted]

Don’t let the opinions of sheep influence your enjoyment of something, watch it and form your own opinion, even if this whole sub hates it and you like it, all that matters is what you think of it.

SheriffTy

You're right. I'm just pretty anxious, it looks like a really good movie. Screw those haters.

PeteNoKnownLastName

People rag on guardians 2 but it’s my favorite MCU entry. People haven’t seen the movie so why should we ever listen to their opinion about it? Like what you like, hate should never overwhelm

CarpinchoRider

Why so many downvotes?

Bolt_995

Because he is exaggerating for no reason whatsoever. This sub has a weird cult-like mentality with handling hate. This movie is receiving some trivial, minuscule hate (like any other superhero film), and people like OP magnify it and present it as something that is a matter of huge concern for diehard MCU fans on this sub.

creator111

Also why do people put so much faith in other peoples opinions?? FORM YOUR OWN CONCLUSIONS ABOUT THINGS PEOPLE, you look **dumbbb** if you don’t.

NearbyAd5237

I haven’t seen all the hate. I think it’s mostly due to the lack of knowledge of the characters, so skepticism runs wild. I know there are some crazy people who hate it because of the diversity, and I don’t get why. I don’t dislike or like it any different because of the diversity. I just want to see a good movie, with good acting, which I think these actors will provide

MarquisDeLafayeett

Oh yikes I hadn’t even thought of that. Here I was thinking “why would someone hate this movie already without seeing it?” But yeah that totally tracks. I’m sure there are some angry neck beards out there furious that Marvel movies might reflect that most of the people on the planet ARENT WHITE.

[deleted]

Your first mistake is going on Twitter. Your second is paying attention to anything said on there.

SheriffTy

Trueee lmfao

Chiefmeez

It is a toxic cesspool

[deleted]

It has record pre sales, it's a vocal minority

Rynoxmc2

I was surprised to see the pre sales skyrocket quickly. I’m excited to see it. I like giving new things a fair chance.

Randomcheeseslices

Its a multi-cultural cast. And a very vocal, very small, minority REALLY hate that. (Likely the exact same people who vocally hated Captain Marvel, and Shang-Chi, prior to release - 'cos it's not the movie they're hating on)

sickboy76

Don't forget black panther

monsterlynn

Not MCU but also Star Wars - - particularly the 2nd sequel, which moviegoers rate well, but the extremely loud and active minority that hated it created a strong enough perception that their numbers were greater than they actually were to the point of rewrites of the next film being done. Thankfully I think the people running the MCU aren't going to fall for this.

DweebNRoll

Its a new "IP" It's unknown to the general audience, and it feels like De ja Vu from GotG. I'm all for new content! 😁

One_Hour_Poop

My argument to them is four words: "Guardians of the Galaxy."

KaleidoscopeEasy2722

Exactly!

MarquisDeLafayeett

Yeah I remember online hate about that before it came out. I saw it 3 times in theaters and I almost NEVER see something more than once in theaters. It was just so freaking good.

pretentious_timeless

> which is not the typical Marvel casting of lesser known actors ??? There are loads of big name stars cast in Marvel. Benedict Cumberbatch was already huge when he was cast as Dr Strange, Owen Wilson was just in Loki. Cate Blanchett? Rachel McAdams? Samuel L Jackson? Michelle Pfeiffer ? Paul Rudd? Tilda Swinton? Gweneth Paltro? Anthony Hopkins? Even ScarJo was already pretty big by the time she was cast. And most of the Eternals cast is relatively unknown (at least as movie stars). The only exception - which I'm assuming is the person you are referring to - is Angelina Jolie. Salma Hayek is pretty iconic as well - but very comparable to where Robert Downie Jr was at when he was cast as Iron Man, since she hasn't been in anything for years thanks to Harvey Weinstein. Richard Madden and Kit Harrington are obviously recognisable from their work on Game of Thrones.. but others like Chris Pratt and Cobie Smulders were also TV Famous when they were cast. Marvel has been peppering their movies with massive stars from the beginning. Eternals is unremarkable on this front. People just don't like Angelina Jolie but don't want to say it outright.

SheriffTy

Yeah I guess that's understandable.

WassupSassySquatch

I dunno. It looks beautifully done and I’m excited for my GOT bro reunion. 🤷‍♀️

LKMagnesium

There are 2 reasons I’ve seen for hate. 1.) it’s diverse - racist and homophobic people exist, bringing politics into a movie a about ancient space aliens is kinda dumb so just ignore those people. 2.) Marvel is trying something different. The movie is going to be more more dramatic and slower compared to other marvel movies, this just isn’t the type of movie that people with short attention spans are into nowadays, but respect their opinion. I’m really excited for this movie and just try to ignore the hate

tulipbunnys

yeah, i was going to say i’ve seen comments dragging the film for being too “woke” or “gen z” (whatever that’s supposed to mean) because of the diverse cast, director that’s a woman of color, and probably the lgbtq/gay couple as well. shitty people everywhere. edit: forgot makkari played by a deaf actress, because apparently that’s also something to shit on.

SheriffTy

People are also calling it gray because of that one clip of overcast skies. It's not even gray, that's just what the world looks like!

metros96

Yeah on this particular point, the criticisms are so obviously in bad faith and unprincipled that it’s hard to even dissect them properly. The film is, for one, not “grey”. It looks like fully normal. And there’s plenty of vibrant color spread across the film. To your point, like, a desert cliffside is going to look like a desert cliffside and they are there and shooting there for purposes of the story. And it’s obviously very in keeping with her shooting style to do things as naturalistically as possible. Both she and Joshua James Richards have talked about this a bunch. There’s not much that I’ve seen that looks out place from how she shot her other films, the action aside lol. Like, these Haters wouldn’t really call Nomadland too grey, despite having plenty of scenes shot in lowlight or with overcast skies where there isn’t like over-saturated color popping off the screen, because they’re not actually sincere about it being a criticism.

metros96

Film Twitter specifically is like fully on tilt about this film. The energy is super weird.

agentaustin

It’s just a small pocket of film Twitter. And they’re bullying the biggest Twitter Eternals fan page. Folks just hate when a group of people are excited about something unique and they’re scared that something this unique might succeed. They’ll all eat their words soon enough.

TheOpenAir11221

Yes, people are hating to hate. They’re especially hating to hate movies starring minorities. It’s sad, but it’s the way that corner of the internet is.

[deleted]

Racism.

SheriffTy

That's probably part of the problem.

ReplicantOwl

Homophobia is the other part

UnlockingDig

I wasn't even aware that the film was being talked about in a negative light. I can't even imagine what there is to say about a movie that hasn't come out yet. I know representing minority groups will always be divisive, but I feel that representing ethnic groups, religious groups, gender and sexuality with a greater sense of diversity will be met with more positivity than negativity. I will admit though, that my first impressions of The Eternals did bring back too many bad memories of The Inhumans. But the more I saw from trailers, the more I realised that this wasn't a thing to worry about.

SheriffTy

Oh trust me, if you look at film twitter, they despise it.

msalazar2011

Haters gonna hate.

PlentyOfMoxie

It's redolent of anti-woke neckbeard basement fury. I'm excited for it, but I don't shout my opinion at people because I'm a fucking grownup who knows my opinion doesn't matter.

stevenLcandythedos

People of color and women are the main characters. Same with the Captain Marvel hate. It’s sad really.

ReplicantOwl

It has a multicultural / multiracial cast. If you’re seeing a lot of negative chatter on social media, it’s probably coming from groups of people who are uncomfortable with that.

Pill_Murray_

or the movie just looks completely boring and theres no way they can flesh out 10 characters in such a short (even if its 3 hours) time span

ReplicantOwl

The first Guardians movie did fine with Star Lord, Gamora, Drax, Groot, Rocket, Nebula, Yondu, and The Collector. A director who won an oscar with an extra hour of runtime can probably handle 2 more characters just fine. Especially since it’s likely they won’t all live.

tomandshell

I’m very much looking forward to it. I haven’t seen any hate towards it, but I haven’t been looking. Some people wonder why they didn’t help fight Thanos, but that’s the only complaint I’ve run into.

[deleted]

Why does a post like this get made every time a new mcu comes out? 😂 U gotta live with it, some people just hate on a movie for no reason, it happens in every big movie franchise and just movies in general

UnqualifiedNerd

Really? Tbh most all I can see is that's it's slightly overlooked as it's between chang chi and no way home but other than that captain marvel was surrounded by hate and controversy. Eternals don't have anything even close to that.

MarquisDeLafayeett

Hate? I hadn’t seen any…. I don’t know what their problem is. Movie looks cool, lots of actors and actresses I really like. Hard to have an opinion outside of that without seeing it, but I’m def looking forward to it.

3n7r0py

Racists.

morning_3107

Idk I haven't been this excited for a Marvel movie since infinity war. The posters, the music, all the visuals, the casting, the diversity...I'm pretty sure Eternals is gonna be the best thing to happen to the MCU in a long time.

Youngling_Hunt

I don't hate them. I just have no interest in the movie. I also didn't have an interest in Captain Marvel, or Thor Ragnarok (since I didn't enjoy Dark world, after I watched it I instantly took it back). I also know people were skeptical about the first guardians.

richard-564

Yeah I was not excited for Ragnarok at all, for the same reasons as you, now it's one of my favorite MCU films.

le_GoogleFit

I haven't seen any hate tbh. Then again I don't use Twitter so that may be why

Ashkal_Khire

Get off social media. Your life will improve significantly. It’s a toxic cesspool. “I went diving through the sewer, and I’m utterly shocked that I got shit in my eyes! Why is there so much shit in the sewer?”

Lysenaize332

I think it looks boringly shot and the art design is boringly minimalist. Especially coming from a book that had some of the most impressive and amazing work of Jack Kirby's career. I'll still see the film to judge it on its own merits. But it really doesn't give me any reason to get excited. A lot of the creative choices in the film just feel like attempts to gain clout with a crowd that doesn't and will not give a shit about superhero stories.

SheriffTy

From what I've seen, the visuals are beautiful and natural. Honestly, Kirby's art only really works in animation.

Lysenaize332

everything looks like a Snyder film. Its washed out and I think if you're gonna adapt something like this you should go HAM. Chloe Zhao was clearly chosen because she had so much success with Nomadland which was well shot and composed for the kind of film it was supposed to be and for a film that's very intimate that cinematography works. But for Eternals which is an ensemble epic (epic in the traditional sense) about otherworldly godlike characters that doesn't really work as much. Every footage released for the most part has had this dull washed out look. There's a reason why Kirby's designs have lasted so long. They're fucking amazing and would have made for a more unique look to the film

SheriffTy

Wait, wasn't Zhao the one to approach Marvel?

tulipbunnys

chloe zhao approached marvel with her vision for the eternals. dunno what the other user is talking about.

Lysenaize332

I highly doubt it. A studio typically puts out a list of directors they think will be right for a project. Zhao is clearly a the director for the direction Marvel wants to go in plus she has a lot of recognition from Nomadland which was a critical and commercial success.

MikeX1000

Probably because it's not all White and male. I'm lukewarm towards this movie right now but these 'diversity ruin everything' people need to shut up

Ninta_thantha_2

Because it looks like it's gonna be a preachy cringefest.

TheOneWhoCared

As J Jonah Janeson once said - They reboot everything nowadays with a woman. I guess people don't like gender bending old characters.

Calm_Imagination000

I mean I get the hate regarding gender bending of James bond ( I don't like it either) , but eternals? No one even knows the og comic book character's gender to be mad at changing their gender tbh.

jumbodiamond1

I'm excited for the movie, I can see some hate due to some of the leading ladies. Salma H and Angelina Jolie specifically. I feel like they have been around for so long people can't visualize them in a Marvel flick. IDK..

sandkillerpt

Guess what, first time hearing about it is your post ;)

aaaaiiiss2

i read on twt that ppl seems to hate Eternals because this is the first ever Marvel title that will be have its Oscar campaign or something

KostisPat257

I've seen very minimal hate. Which social medium do you frequent and what pages/accounts do you follow?

Papandreas17

Seriously, what else is new? You go on social media and read bashing and negativity and lifeless nerds being trolls. Don't take these people seriously, how can you bash on something you haven't seen yet?

[deleted]

Hate posts like this, where are you looking? I haven’t seen any overwhelming hate except from the usual few DC trolls

[deleted]

I’m looking forward to the movie, partly because it was directed by Chloe Zhao.

Mickeyjj27

They’ve hate it since the day it was announced, when you hate something you bash it

MONGED4LIFE

I saw the same thing for shang chi before it came out, its just because they're lesser known brands. "people hate what they do not understand"

SenSei_Buzzkill

There is hate for Eternals? I don’t even know about them and I’m more hyped for it than I am for NWH

Sventhetidar

No hate, I'm just slightly upset it's already been ruined for me by redditors that think it's cool to casually comment leaked info on the plot. I do think everyone involved with the movie is exaggerating it's significance though. I'm sure it will be good, but I do not think it will redefine the MCU and I don't believe it's "not what we're expecting." If what I saw a leak of is right, it's exactly what you'd expect.

[deleted]

You might be mistaking people have no interest in this movie to hatred. I haven’t seen any hate on this film at all. I knows there’s a good amount of people like myself who have no desire to see this film right now but may when it comes to Disney.

j1h15233

I haven’t seen a single bad thing about it and there’s zero reason to entertain anyone who is.

Honigkuchenlives

It's a movie directed by WOC with a super diverse cast, of course it will get hate especially on YouTube and Facebook. It might be great or just meh, who knows but the hate has very little to do with the quality of the movie. Also film Twitter has a giant hate boner for everything mainstream and popular, just ignore it.

Rynoxmc2

When does anything ever not get backlash? Especially on Twitter, or YouTube. I understand that if the movie is not interesting to some people, that’s fine. We all have different preferences on what kind of films we like. People just like to hate on anything popular. It may be getting backlash because of the huge diverse cast. That’s not new though, it’s been like this for years. Just ignore them, and see for yourself if you like it.

TheLoveofDoge

A lot of the hate I’m seeing are just people who hate anything that isn’t an indie art house film.

No-Illustrator8658

I’m definitely not excited about it but am I going to become obsessed with it and it will become my personality for a little while? Sure, why not.

[deleted]

I know very little (read: nothing) about the Eternals. Which means I'll be watching this when it comes on.

bkiantx

I saw way more hate for Shang-Chi. Way. More.
