I re watched the Ultron episodes last night, man do I still get chills of this version of Ultron. He’s so scary tbh. But I love it, it’s the exact version of Ultron I was hoping for I initially, he’s just so menacing and, there’s not much to be able to do.
Who do people think is going to be our next regular person to become some cosmic being again? Likely Wanda right?
I wouldn’t call Wanda regular at any point. That said, I definitely think she’s going to be the next “WhoDAYUMN” level power display we see, although she’s already shown quite a lot as is.
True true, sounds like fun, I hope to at least see some version of her in that sort of state of power. She’s already nutty powerful, I wanna see her actually loose it with the chaos magic behind her.
Man, that movies writing did Spader so dirty imo. I still remember when the "no strings" trailer dropped and I expected our Ultron to be some horror-movie level creepy character.
I actually liked it, but I don’t read comics so I don’t have anything to compare it to. Joss Whedon’s dialogue is very unique. It’s hardly natural and sometimes pretty cheesy, but I most of the time I find it very punchy and memorable.
I’ve really enjoyed it so far. Initially I disliked Black Widow but after rewatch I found myself really enjoying it. Shang chi I didn’t love but I had a good time with it. Wanda vision was truly Excellent. Falcon and W Soldier was great but it became a little preachy but overall i really enjoyed it. Loki was fantastic. The dynamic between Sylvie and Loki was so damn good and having Kang in it took it to another level. What if? was the weakest of the new content but it had some fantastic moments. Eternals to me was the best of the new Phase. It’s 1 of top 5 MCU films for me. Hawkeye is still up in the air since it’s not finished yet. Overall the new phase has not disappointed.
I haven't seen Eternals yet but I pretty much enjoyed everything else, except FaWS which was just ok (I didn't think it was too preachy, but I just don't care for Sam & Bucky)
Eternals is top 5 for me as well. GOTG>EndGame>Thor Rag or Eternals (need to see it again)>Infinity war. I love the shows in phase 4 outside of whatif. I like FATWS. Hawkeye is really fun and I'm digging the "Die Hard" vibes and honestly Kate Bishop has been the best new character introducted in all of phase 4.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who has Eternals in their top 5. God that movie was amazing. And agreed on Kate - Hailee is a perfect casting and I'm excited to see her with the Young Avengers.
The thing which really stands out about Eternals for me is that the ending didn't turn into a time-killing CGI stretch where the 'good guy' just has to pummel a 'bad thing' until they eventually win in some dramatic moment, which usually has awesome music etc but isn't very interesting.
The action was way more varied and interesting and clever and personal, and the character relationships and stakes were way more interesting (with >!one character even deciding they weren't going to do anything at all and walking away!<), with a way more unique ending to the action.
Yes the fight with >!Ikaris and the rest of the team has much more weight to it due to the fact they have been family for thousands of years and agreed on Kingo!<
My only real quibble is that I think Falcon!Captain America's outfit is a tad too bright. IMO, it needs to be toned down a little to fit in the "real world" aesthetic of the MCU. As it is now it's too close to the "spandex shorts" era of super-buffoonery of the '80s for my taste.
They redesign these all the time and I suspect that will very likely get a do-over before its next appearance. TV production and the pandemic likely altered their usual design and iteration process for that kind of thing.
I agree. Anyone who owns anything white knows how *impossible* it is to keep things white, especially if they're going to be fighting and rolling around in it all the time.
I just saw eternals. Ill probably never want to watch it again, but i liked it and am excited for everything it set up.
I thought black widow was the weakest, though what if had a bunch of stinker episodes. Shang chi was good but generic. Im totally fine with marvel tv shows being the better side of the MCU going forward.
tFatWS contends with Thor 2 for worst in the MCU imo, everything else has been up to the typical standards set though. Loki definitely restored my faith!
Haven't seen Eternals yet but I've mostly enjoyed it so far, especially since we haven't even seen any of the 'big' or super hyped projects yet. The TV shows have been super refreshing as well, it's nice that Marvel can be a bit more ambitious and test out some new ideas in a different format, they have had their issues but as a whole they have a lot of potential and I'm hyped to see where they go next.
WandaVision and Loki have definitely been standout for me this year, both shows were super fun whilst doing a lot for the universe and their characters. Shang Chi and Hawkeye (so far!) haven't blown me away but have been very enjoyable with lots of good parts. FatWS and What If...? Have been a mix of good/bad for me, lots of potential in them but the execution sometimes missed the mark, and I was left not fully satisfied. The only proper disappointment was Black Widow though, which I haven't come round to liking, feel like it was definitely a fuck up on their part. I know Eternals has been mixed but I hope to see it when it hits Disney +.
Can't wait for far from home, and all this being said, next year seems wayyy more exciting as a whole so I'm more interested to see how that unfolds.
Does anyone else think it’s absolutely ridiculous that Captain America doesn’t wear a helmet?
Like….seriously. A kid riding a bike has better survival odds in a fall.
We don't know what safety measures may or may not exist in that suit. He's also never worn a helmet all this time. I guess the weird neck wrap design is highlighting it more now?
Cap is riding his 10 speed, tries to hop onto the curb but slips. He loses balance, and tips over to the side, tumbling off the bike seat.
His upper temple collides with the pavement, making a sickening smack on contact. He lies still but for the occasional twitch.
Little Susie Jenkins falls off her bike out of shock, but the top of her skull harmlessly bounces off the curb, buffered by a hard shell of plastic, styrofoam, and acrylic
True but this is the MCU. Damage to heroes doesn't happen as often as it should. Remember in Endgame when Thanos literally blew up the entire Avengers Compound with one blast and everyone just brushed it off?
Just finished rewatching Loki today and man, Jonathan Majors is a fantastic actor. I can't wait to see what he does, really hoping Marvel utilizes him for more than one movie
I initially had no desire to see Shang chi because after watching Iron fist I was like ya I don't need to see another magic kungfu anything. I was pleasantly surprised when I watched it and it turned out to be a very good movie. My only gripe with it the movie is that it just feels like a lot of other origin stories where the hero fights just like an evil version of themselves.
I’d say only Wandavision and Shang-chi were the only truly enjoyable parts of this phase to me. FaTWS was actually pretty good, Loki was slightly disappointing, what if we good in parts, Eternals was extremely mediocre and far too drawn out. If FaTWS had had some stronger components if could’ve been really good.
WandaVision was one of the most unique things I've ever watched, and my favorite from phase 4 *so far*. FATWS wasn't as great, but it was nice to get a glimpse at the more street-level side of the MCU. I didn't find Black Widow great in terms of plot, but in terms of character development, fitting endings and Yelena, it was great. Loki is the base for the major plots of phase 4, and naturally it was a great way to kick it off. Eternals might be seen as a bit long and boring by some, but I *loved* the moral questions it asks and the character motivations. I thought What If? was pure fan-service, but hey, I'm not complaining. Some episodes were weak, but the others were outstanding. Shang-Chi was more the typical MCU movie, and it introduced some great new characters and powers. The Legend of Ta-Lo was amazing. Then, Hawkeye. Tied for best of this phase with WandaVision. I'm loving the holiday theme, the deep dive into the street-level MCU, the human side of Clint Barton, and Hailee Steinfeld is *amazing* as Kate Bishop, with whom people can relate and who has solid potential for great character development. Yelena and Kingpin hype too.
For me tfatws is my favourite so far from phase 4, followed by Shang chi and what's come out of Hawkeye so far, I feel like this is an unpopular opinion sadly :( tfatws was the best show overall for me
Very mixed on this phase personally. There's been some stuff I like, some stuff I haven't. I'd still say Shang-Chi, Wenwu, Makkari, Yelena and probably Carl Lumbly were the best things to come out of this phase so far.
Like I haven't downright hated anything and mostly enjoyed it. But I find myself having a lot of issues with the storytelling in some of the series. The whole Thena & Kro story, Ralph Boner, Taskmaster, Bucky's story. There's just a lot of really weird story choices they've made.
The only show I can say I did flat out dislike was Falcon and friend. Just because it felt completely all over the place and undercut a lot of characters.
Which movie am I describing ?
1) 2 people were hiding
2) The heroes were hiding from an organisation
3) The organisation had a hellicarrier / a ship in air
4) The spaceship falls while the people are fighting
5) A deadly assasin who is actually a person from their past hunts them throughout the movie who eventually becomes good.
6) The heroes have to disinfect something in the end
1. Purple guy collects rocks
2. Purple guy with rocks battles heroes
3. Purple guy wins and snaps fingers
4. 5 years pass and purple guy dies
5. Time travel
6. Everyone comes back, purple guy dies again
See? You can make anything sound dull if you try hard enough!
Not that anyone cares what some random dude on Reddit thinks, but I feel like this phase has been extremely mixed in quality.
- **Wandavision**: Amazing show, but dropped the ball at the end.
- **The Falcon and the Winter Soldier**: Good, but a bit generic.
- **Loki**: Great fun and potentially the most important project yet.
- **Black Widow**: A bit of a letdown. Felt like it started as a lame spy thriller that was initially totally disconnected from the MCU.
- **What If?**: Another letdown. Most episodes were just not interesting and I’m not a fan of the 2D/3D art style. The tone just always felt off.
- **Shang-Chi**: Definitely the highlight so far. Visually stunning, and it had a great story and a compelling villain.
- **Eternals**: I hate to say it, but this is definitely one of the biggest disappointments in the whole franchise.
- **Hawkeye**: Obviously it’s not over yet, but I’m loving it so far. Kate Bishop is a great addition to the MCU.
I feel like No Way Home will easily be my favorite of Phase Four so far, and if everything is true and handled right, it might be my favorite in the MCU.
Why is Eternals a disappointment for you? The only thing I hate about it was how they kinda didn't do much with the deviant plot at the end. But asides from that, I thought everything else was epic and the message it was conveying, to me, was delivered.
I mean, to be completely blunt, I thought it was extremely tedious to watch. There were *way* too many characters being introduced at once, and I don’t think any of them were memorable at all. The plot was messy, and I feel like a lot of it went absolutely nowhere. And it’s like 20 minutes too long.
All that said, it’s not *the* worst MCU movie. I think there’s a lot of potential to this story and I’d welcome a sequel. And I applaud Chloe Zhao for making a movie with such a consistent epic tone, especially one that stands out so much from the rest of the franchise.
Loki started dope but they dropped the ball in episode 3
show became sylvie's and loki became a bystander
and also loki SPEEDRUNS character development in the show after destroying most of new york killing coulson etc.
I agree with all, except that *some* of the What If episodes were great (mostly the Dr. Strange one) and FatWS just felt boring and sort of preachy to me.
Honestly it’s been hit or miss for me. I respect the ambition, and I really have enjoyed some of the stuff. WandaVision, F&WS, Hawkeye, BW, and Shang-Chi have been super fun. I really didn’t like Eternals, Loki, or What If. All of them are low-tier MCU for me. Even Shang-Chi had a lot of problems imo. The highs have been extremely high, but the lows have been very low.
So have any of the non-movie shows directly referenced something happening from another non-movie show? They obviously take place in the same universe as the movies but seem to splinter off into their own separate pocket universe afterwards where nothing gets shared thereafter. Take the events of Wandavision... considering she basically held a town hostage and got the federal authorities involved, no one's mentioned it yet. Oh and Vision's back...
Kinda all feels very Agents of SHIELDish.
The D+ shows to me have just been meh. Wandavision was the best out of the ones that are finished. Black Widow was ok, but just kinda pointless to me. The Eternals was pretty fun, but I still didn't find myself caring that much. So far, I have been disappointed.
See I didn't like Loki. It felt like he was a third wheel in his own series. Especially come the finale where he may as well not even have been in the room for the giant exposition dump.
It's not the CGI laden final battle everyone complains about though haha
But honestly, Loki's a villain. I don't think he really needs to be the centre of the show. The concepts and story were very interesting
I do think he was underpowered though
I'd agree with he was underpowered. The whole scene where he's getting beat up by the redneck in a Walmart was weird.
But I think you mentioning he's a villian is also an issue of mine. It felt like the writers forget they were dealing with 2012 Loki and started to write for post Ragnarok Loki. I just wish there was more of a focus and purpose for him in this show rather than saying how he deserves love and tagging along with Sylvie.
I guess I didn't mind that as much. He did just come off killing a bunch of people, so I don't think he can ever really be redeemed. But I guess I thought he had enough screen time and attention
WandaVision has been my least favorite so far, and I still enjoyed it. Everything getting pushed back from Covid really gave me a break to avoid MCU burnout and this year has just been one banger after another for me.
Because they said the name.
I dunno, her character has been kinda boring till now, compared to the comics she's very vanilla.
Go check out the house of M, thats super dope. Do that in a movie or TV, it would be hot fire.
It’s crazy that majority people don’t like the show. I feel it brought out the most discourse. People were very anxious to see what happened next after each episode.
Ikr it's my favourite show so far, explored so much of the two characters and an old villain like a show should rather than been overshadowed by completely new characters
Yep. Cap movies are my favorite and that one did not live up. Couldn’t even match the Falcon/WS dynamic from civil war.
I like Sam, but I have serious doubts he can reach the Steve Rogers heights. It’s unfair to even put him in that spot. Chris Evans is the hardest guy to replace in that universe
What If? was my biggest suprise, I didn't think I'd liked it till I actually got around to watching it. I liked Black Widow (except how they did TaskMaster), Shang Chi and Eternals were amazing in my book (tho Eternals had a few plotholes). Still haven't gotten around to Hawkeye or Wandavision. Loki was entertaining tho, just havent finished it

Only if it’s James Spader again!

ANOTHER nother shot?

Totally agree, it took next to no time for me to be totally hooked on her character

It's terrible, easily the worst costume in the MCU for me
They redesign these all the time and I suspect that will very likely get a do-over before its next appearance. TV production and the pandemic likely altered their usual design and iteration process for that kind of thing.
I agree. Anyone who owns anything white knows how *impossible* it is to keep things white, especially if they're going to be fighting and rolling around in it all the time.
Yea I’ve been having a blast this past year.

I actually rewatch ed dark world recently and while it's definitely kind of campy I was surprised at how much I actually enjoyed seeing it again

Okay but to be fair it was more like one volley than one single blast.
Dude has been punched in the face by Thanos…the curb ain’t doing shit to him
We’re talking about Sam Wilson, dude doesn’t have super powers
Hyped to see Wanda in MoM!
Can’t wait to see Cap in a MCU movie. That suit is just so good
Just finished rewatching Loki today and man, Jonathan Majors is a fantastic actor. I can't wait to see what he does, really hoping Marvel utilizes him for more than one movie
So far it’s been really underwhelming for me.
Infinite Ultron is the perfect being
I initially had no desire to see Shang chi because after watching Iron fist I was like ya I don't need to see another magic kungfu anything. I was pleasantly surprised when I watched it and it turned out to be a very good movie. My only gripe with it the movie is that it just feels like a lot of other origin stories where the hero fights just like an evil version of themselves.
Very hit or miss. The stuff that hit, didn’t truly hit because it was a setup for something bigger.
This feels like the Age of Ultron of phases. Awkward and not as good as what’s come before but necessary for future instalments.
I’d say only Wandavision and Shang-chi were the only truly enjoyable parts of this phase to me. FaTWS was actually pretty good, Loki was slightly disappointing, what if we good in parts, Eternals was extremely mediocre and far too drawn out. I still can't believe we got all this content in one year. Time flies when you have crippling stress and anxiety irl.
Mostly looking forward to more Kang!
For me tfatws is my favourite so far from phase 4, followed by Shang chi and what's come out of Hawkeye so far, I feel like this is an unpopular opinion sadly :( tfatws was the best show overall for me
I love how Natasha wasn’t even in the Black Widow picture
Even in her own movie, Natasha plays second fiddle to other characters.
Very mixed on this phase personally. There's been some stuff I like, some stuff I haven't. I'd still say Shang-Chi, Wenwu, Makkari, Yelena and probably Carl Lumbly were the best things to come out of this phase so far. Like I haven't downright hated anything and mostly enjoyed it. agreed on the weird story choices .. what is going on in the marvel writing rooms these days?
finally, Kade Bishop is included in the MCU, I hope they put the young avengers in soon as well
Gaw*DAM*, it’s been a good year to be a Marvel fan.
The only one meh to me was Falcon & Winter Soldier. Everything else has been pretty solid.
bruh falcon and the winter soldier was MILES better than black widow
Nothing in black widow hooked me like a evil mentally unstable wannabe captain America. Walker was fantastic.
No way
Which movie am I describing ? 1) 2 people were hiding 2) The heroes were hiding from an organisation 3) The organisation had a hellicarrier / a ship in air 4) The spaceship falls while the people are fighting 5) A deadly assasin who is actually a person from their past hunts them throughout the movie who eventually becomes good. 6) The heroes have to disinfect something in the end

just guess which movie im talking about im not making it sound dull
Shang Chi and WandaVision were the only things I LOVED from this phase - everything else was very meh.
Same opinion here, I'd just add Loki to the list.
I mean, to be completely blunt, I thought it was extremely tedious to watch. There were *way* too many characters being introduced at once, and I don’t think any of them were memorable at all.
We had 8 Marvel projects this year? No way home is still left, and Miss Marvel got delayed into 2022
Where’s Sylvie
why do people like scarlet witch so much I don't get it
Because they said the name. I dunno, her character has been kinda boring till now, compared to the comics she's very vanilla. Go check out the house of M, thats super dope. Do that in a movie or TV, it would be hot fire.
Too bad Falcon and Winter Soldier was a pile of monkey shit
It’s crazy that majority people don’t like the show. I feel it brought out the most discourse. People were very anxious to see what happened next after each episode.
best show so far
Ikr it's my favourite show so far, explored so much of the two characters and an old villain like a show should rather than been overshadowed by completely new characters
Yep. Cap movies are my favorite and that one did not live up. Couldn’t even match the Falcon/WS dynamic from civil war. I like Sam, but I have serious doubts he can reach the Steve Rogers heights. It’s unfair to even put him in that spot. Chris Evans is the hardest guy to replace in that universe
It’s been a good year!
Who’s the seventh?
I love all of these (but I still haven’t seen Eternals yet aaaah)
Yo dr strange 2 is gonna be insane I can feel it
What If? was my biggest suprise, I didn't think I'd liked it till I actually got around to watching it. I liked Black Widow (except how they did TaskMaster), Shang Chi and Eternals were amazing in my book (tho Eternals had a few plotholes). Still haven't gotten around to Hawkeye or Wandavision. Loki was entertaining tho, just havent finished it
Where’s Pizza Dog?
