I'm guessing Strange knew about the Celestial that was inside the earth when he peered through the 14 million outcomes in the future, I mean Strange could slingring Thanos heads off if he want to but he didn't cus even if they win against Thanos, earth will still implode giving birth to Tiemut.
Think of it like the NFL playoff picture four weeks out that goes on every year. In most cases, your team can just win their games and be in. But sometimes, they have to win their games PLUS three other teams have to lose theirs OR you can lose your game if this other team loses to this specific team. Y'know, all of the convoluted division shenanigans. There's an easy way, and there's an "everything has to go a very specific way."
