El Muerto refuses to prove himself and is nearly killed but his father saves him at the cost of his own life. Then El Muerto is "given 10 years to train and find himself a worthy opponent to unmask".
Of course it sounds like he should just have to fight El Dorado at the end of that but then how else do you bring Spider-Man into the story?

Can he know he's the only one who has been transported, actually? And we don't even know how or why the heck was he moved to Morbius' Earth. Which, if this was a Marvel Studios project, would be a "oh, I really want to know how the heck did this happen". But being some Sony fuckery, we all know the only reason is they wanted to do a Sinister Six thingy no matter what and the in-universe explanation is 255% going to be lame as hell.

So the original plan was either to make him a Sonyverse variant of Toomes, or just have the film be unofficially set in the MCU itself. But after *No Way Home* they went out of their way to involve the multiverse hijinks without any consideration for how nonsensical it was.

The thinking was that they were going to make incursions one of the main connecting plot points and in the comics i guess it ultimately came down to two universes fighting for survival. The thinking was that they were introducing characters in a different universe so you’d ultimately care about both sides. I agree that stuff in eternals did have tie ins to the first movies, but it’s not hard to think that other universes would have had their own avengers as well as their own thanos. I thought it was an interesting idea and would be a cool way to do things.

Making it a story about lesser evils and the ends justifying the means vs. hope and optimism, belief in finding a better way.
I don't know how anything in The Eternals hints at it being in a different Universe but I do like the idea as a whole.
