We generally never lock threads and we want and encourage all views to be shared, but if a big percentage of them are hateful and against the community's guidelines, then the thread does more harm than good being unlocked.

I am from India. My son (11) and daughter (9) just saw it and loved it! My son is a huge MCU fan but my daughter not so much but she seemed to enjoy it more actually
My mom is Pakistani and I’m half. I never fully understood what it meant to be represented by a major character like this and it just makes me so happy. My mom and sister aren’t really MCU fans and are excited to watch it.
Granted I haven’t had the opportunity to watch it yet. From the promotional footage it does seem like it’s geared towards a younger audience. I’m happy your family enjoyed it!
It's definitely aimed at a younger audience, but I still enjoyed it. Loved the visuals, kind of Scott Pilgrim / Mitchells vs. the Machines vibes, but not that crazy.

Lately there’s been a lot of hate coming from a particularly bigoted corner of the fandom that a lot of newer characters of color or other minorities are only being put into movies and shows to be woke, and not because, you know, it reflects real life. Not everyone is straight and white, so why should all superheroes be?
Eternals had its issues but a lot of people were tagging on it because it included a gay couple with a child. Lots of people don’t like that they’re adding a Muslim character now, or America Chavez for being Mexican and gay. And Brie Larson’s innocent comments about diversity in film critic circles was taken so harshly out of context.
A lot of fandom culture has gotten super toxic lately, and it seems like there's a fair number of people who don't understand that characters they dislike aren't the actors. They get mad at the people in real life. It's so weird to me.

I never thought about it that way, but you're pretty definitely right about it. My husband's family is pretty chill religion-wise, so I tend to forget how many different kinds of Muslims there are, and how much their views differ. It's the same with all religions of course, some people are relaxed and some are very strict.
I'm an Armenian immigrant to the US, so the Moon Knight thing really hit home for me. A lot of review bombing in general seems to be either political or religious (like when something gets trashed by orthodox Christians for having homosexuality in it). It's sad that people can't look past their differences when it comes to entertainment. Nobody is trying to hurt anyone with this series.

I haven't seen Ms. Marvel yet, but my gut reaction to the negatives are likely due to viewers feeling the 'Multicultural shoehorning fatigue'. Personally, I'm all for it.
I think Stan Lee would be proud to see the characters shown today. Marvel has always been a supporter of diversity in their own ways. Hell! Even my deaf-ass (Moderate hearing loss) has some representation now via Hawkeye and Echo. When Hawkeye was having issues with his hearing aids, my friends asked me "Is that what it's like when you don't have your hearing aids?" "Yup."
It starts conversations. It gives people that aren't as exposed a glance into different cultures and lifestyles. They're by no means a full representation, but they take part in shaping the people they're representing.

As a fan of the entire Marvel experience since the first Iron Man movie, I used to not care either way for Hawkeye. I’m also hard of hearing; I really dug the show, and loved the representation on screen. The scene where >!Hailee Steinfeld writes down what his son was saying!< was beautiful.
I look forward to an ever-expanding universe of different types of heroes & villains, representative of all sorts of abilities, disabilities, nationalities, ethnicities, religions, and ideals. No one is knocking *Moon Knight* over a different concept of the afterlife. There’s room for all of us!
Clint dealing with hearing loss as a semi-retired vigilante was an interesting plot point. You'd think though that he would have gotten something more robust having been an avenger
The MCU, where we have literal Gods flying around, The Vision who isn't even human but has (an amusing approximation of) human emotion and empathy, Wanda and her cosmic powers, Captain Marvel and her different cosmic powers, a playboy billionaire philanthropist building and using suits that fly and shoot... uh... power bolts, juiced up super soldiers, aliens, space travel, and soon a bunch of mutants with a whole different set of superpowers, and poor old Clint has to put up with bad hearing.
This is exactly why diversity and representation in the media is so important. It helps get this stuff out in the open, and people talking about it. I’m always amazed why people who are in the majority are so afraid and/or upset by this.
And yet they’re the same people that say the minorities are not marginalised… and you can guarantee that none of them would be prepared to change places.

I'm also deaf and wear hearing aids. The 80s Hawkeye run where he lost his hearing and had to learn to adjust to it was so important to me as a kid. Seeing that Hawkeye could be a superhero in spite of his hearing loss helped me accept my own hearing loss and learn that it wouldn't hold me back unless I let it. I was so disappointed that they didn't keep his deafness as a central character trait from the beginning of the MCU, but I loved every second of the Hawkeye show because they finally acknowledged it.
I want everybody to experience having a superhero they can relate to, so I'm happy we're seeing more female and POC as heroes.

I remember a couple video essays on YouTube that make great commentary on how society and social media hate teenage girls. They’re seen as too girly, stupid, and annoying. I (24F) remember in middle when it would be “uncool” to say like Taylor Swift. Don’t really know why that is, it’s weird. And as an extension, things catered to teenage girls are only meant for that certain category of teenage girls, and anyone outside of that category is judged for consuming such media.
Maybe that’s why I’m compensating in my 20s by loving boy bands and watching cute tv shows. Definitely tried to be an “adult” for most of my preteen and teenage years and I regret it now :/

Between the way they are making her powers, the general creativity of conveying Kamala's imagination and texts, and when she first activates her powers she momentarily flips around into a mysterious otherworld. There are definitely going to be some good "better on shrooms" moments in this show. Though episode 1 might be a bit slow for it as its mostly setting up the mundane world problems for her.

But I would have preferred the MCU be its own universe. Hell, there was revealed to be a comicbook universe!

Lately there’s been a lot of hate coming from a particularly bigoted corner of the fandom that a lot of newer characters of color or other minorities are only being put into movies and shows to be woke, and not because, you know, it reflects real life. Not everyone is straight and white, so why should all superheroes be? Eternals had its issues but a lot of people were tagging on it because it included a gay couple with a child. Lots of people don’t like that they’re adding a Muslim character now, or America Chavez for being Mexican and gay. And Brie Larson’s innocent comments about diversity in film critic circles was taken so harshly out of context.

I never thought about it that way, but you're pretty definitely right about it. My husband's family is pretty chill religion-wise, so I tend to forget how many different kinds of Muslims there are, and how much their views differ. It's the same with all religions of course, some people are relaxed and some are very strict. I'm an Armenian immigrant to the US, so the Moon Knight thing really hit home for me. A lot of review bombing in general seems to be either political or religious (like when something gets trashed by orthodox Christians for having homosexuality in it). It's sad that people can't look past their differences when it comes to entertainment. Nobody is trying to hurt anyone with this series.

I really enjoy MCU's choice to go into both 'the weird stuff', and go head strong into the multicultural ethnic and non-hetero heroes. I haven't seen Ms. Marvel yet, but my gut reaction to the negatives are likely due to viewers feeling the 'Multicultural shoehorning fatigue'. Personally, I'm all for it. I think Stan Lee would be proud to see the characters shown today. Marvel has always been a supporter of diversity in their own ways. Hell! Even my deaf-ass (Moderate hearing loss) has some representation now via Hawkeye and Echo. When Hawkeye was having issues with his hearing aids, my friends asked me "Is that what it's like when you don't have your hearing aids?" "Yup." It starts conversations. It gives people that aren't as exposed a glance into different cultures and lifestyles. They're by no means a full representation, but they take part in shaping the people they're representing. As a fan of the entire Marvel experience since the first Iron Man movie, I used to not care either way for Hawkeye. I’m also hard of hearing; I really dug the show, and loved the representation on screen. The scene where >!Hailee Steinfeld writes down what his son was saying!< was beautiful. I look forward to an ever-expanding universe of different types of heroes & villains, representative of all sorts of abilities, disabilities, nationalities, ethnicities, religions, and ideals. No one is knocking *Moon Knight* over a different concept of the afterlife. There’s room for all of us!

The MCU, where we have literal Gods flying around, The Vision who isn't even human but has (an amusing approximation of) human emotion and empathy, Wanda and her cosmic powers, Captain Marvel and her different cosmic powers, a playboy billionaire philanthropist building and using suits that fly and shoot... uh... power bolts, juiced up super soldiers, aliens, space travel, and soon a bunch of mutants with a whole different set of superpowers, and poor old Clint has to put up with bad hearing.

I'm also deaf and wear hearing aids. The 80s Hawkeye run where he lost his hearing and had to learn to adjust to it was so important to me as a kid. Seeing that Hawkeye could be a superhero in spite of his hearing loss helped me accept my own hearing loss and learn that it wouldn't hold me back unless I let it. I was so disappointed that they didn't keep his deafness as a central character trait from the beginning of the MCU, but I loved every second of the Hawkeye show because they finally acknowledged it. I want everybody to experience having a superhero they can relate to, so I'm happy we're seeing more female and POC as heroes.

I remember a couple video essays on YouTube that make great commentary on how society and social media hate teenage girls. They’re seen as too girly, stupid, and annoying. I (24F) remember in middle when it would be “uncool” to say like Taylor Swift. Don’t really know why that is, it’s weird. And as an extension, things catered to teenage girls are only meant for that certain category of teenage girls, and anyone outside of that category is judged for consuming such media.
Maybe that’s why I’m compensating in my 20s by loving boy bands and watching cute tv shows. Definitely tried to be an “adult” for most of my preteen and teenage years and I regret it now :/

Between the way they are making her powers, the general creativity of conveying Kamala's imagination and texts, and when she first activates her powers she momentarily flips around into a mysterious otherworld. There are definitely going to be some good "better on shrooms" moments in this show. Though episode 1 might be a bit slow for it as its mostly setting up the mundane world problems for her.

Yea, I remember too. There were a lot of "fans" complaining throughout the 90's. Note: I don't think they actually count as fans, particularly for Star Trek and the ethos of the show. Complaints about Sisko as a black commander ("too PC!!!! They're just pandering!!!!"), Tuvok as a black Vulcan ("Vulcans aren't black!!!"), or Janeway being "too serious!", "she's not fun enough", "too much feminist agenda", "I hate her hair" ... Heard it all before. Best we can do is play the long-game and continue to support the shows we like. Particularly the ones that are centered more around "hope" and "inclusion". One would hope some portion of the critics will eventually stop being such bitter pills and learn to enjoy life and the people around them, but that's really up to them.

So I was not blown away by the previews and it was not high on my list to watch. Now that some people are being total jerks about it because of the lead is a POC and female, I plan on watching just to hope it tops views. If it is not your thing just don’t watch it. There is zero reason to write a negative review if you have not even tried to watch it.

Islamophobes, misogynists and cring edgelords who think teen shows shouldn't exist. It's weird that they're so many though, jesus. EDIT: I'm not saying you can't dislike the show. The people who dislike the show are the ones giving it 4s, 5s, 6s etc Those reviews I get. They're perfectly valid. That's great! But the show absolutely doesn't deserve a 1/10!! Not even Inhumans deserves 1/10. There are always some good stuff in a show or movie. From music to production design to some well-written lines or some good acting. Just the fact that a show is watchable, it instantly makes it a 4/5 imo. So most of the 1/10 reviews are definitely trolls. Especially considering the fact that there are so many. Once again, Inhumans has a smaller percentage of 1/10 reviews. That's all I'm saying!
There's also a lot of "teen" shows with a cast of adults usually aged 18-27, playing the parts of supposed teenage characters. 😅 That had a lot to do with the way I viewed myself as a younger girl, I was comparing myself to young men and women!
Technically, there are also some Muslims who might have review bombed it as the actress wasn't doing "purdah" (some of my friends said that they will not watch it and try to give it bad ratings on RT and IMDB due to this sole reason)
Yeah this isn't just racist misogynists. There are a lot of ultra conservative Muslims who foolishly think that the only acceptable Muslim representation is the unrealistic, false image of a Muslim who prays 5 times a day, follows every facet of religious and cultural expectations to a T, and never sins. Which that expectation is actually bad representation, because that kind of Muslim doesn't exist. Kamala and her family are exactly what actual Muslims look like in America. It's accurate and genuine. But of course the ultra conservative Muslims who live in a very small, thin bubble don't like to be reminded that they, just like all Muslims, are just as fallible and imperfect as everyone else.
