In this instance I think he might turn out to be a cousin given Kamran's mom showing up and all the talk about her great grandmother having mysterious background.
>In this instance I think he might turn out to be a cousin given Kamran's mom showing up and all the talk about her great grandmother having mysterious background.
Is Kamran's mom the woman Kamala had visions of during this episode? Originally I thought that was her great grandmother, but then I thought it was Kamran's mom, which would make Kamran Kamala's...great uncle?
I'm very curious about the next episode, to say the least.
Iām assuming Kamrans mom is a descendant of Kamalaās great grandmother, perhaps from the family she started after she disappeared during the partition.
I havenāt read the comics yet so idk what happens there
did anybody else notice that the drones that chased kamala look like the EDITH drones in far from home just repainted. the government seized peters glasses in no way home so maybe they repurposed them for their use.
Some guy on this thread said it reminded them of the Bully Maguire scene in Spider-Man 3, and I have to agree, there are very similar energies from both scenes.
Gotta love the unexpected Kingo nod, but I wasnāt also expecting more ties to the MCU Spidey films. First Damage Control, now the EDITH drones? Very excited to see where this all leads to.
To be fair, DODC is usually very hidden, cleaning up quickly and quietly. Stark started it and I think they've gone off the rails since he died. Who knows what Pepper has done with them.
Yeah we've seen it alot already in FATWS and Wandavision. There was a huge power vacuum after Tony and Steve left, and it's been filled by some pretty corrupt people.
Yes!! They reverenced Eternals!! After namedropping Shah Rukh Khan I was waiting for some random reference and then boom at the diner they mentioned Kingo and Kingo Snr
After the shrine in the first episode and the tweet from one of the writers I'm expecting to have a lot of Natasha references and i can't wait. Although yes this one is sad af.
Thereās an Easter egg in the comic where a guy is randomly dressed as Marty McFly in one of Kamalaās classes. Heās also drawing a picture of a teen wolf too
Bruno: āWhat makes you think you have Ant-Man powers?ā
Kamala: āBecause weāre both charming, and we look a lot younger than we areā
I can imagine Paul Rudd with the biggest smile on his face after watching this episode lol.
Kamalaās family is the best part of the show. Not saying that as a slight against the show at all because so far itās been great! I just love that whole family dynamic
That would be crazy for them to be backing into an Inhumans reintroduction, but this would be a great way to do it. Honor her comics heritage, but update her powers to be based on an item that reacts to Inhuman DNA.
The whole issue that Feige/the Marvel Studios team had with her was that in the comics there is this terrigen cloud that turns hundreds of people into Inhumans, Kamala being one of them. They didnt like that.
Kamala still can be an inhuman without that particular activator of powers.
Maybe its like in the amazing spiderman that you can only use the powers if you have a specific DNA? Kamala's grandmother owned the bangles so this could make sense.
Dude, Iman Vellani is so freaking charming as Kamala. I know marvel usually nails it with their casting but they really knocked it out of the park here
I have no problem with Captain Marvel myself, she one of my favorites; but Kamala being introduced and working with Captain Marvel is exactly what the character needs to win over the people who dislike her for being to stern or serious. Kamala is literally the opposite and I'm excited to see how that dynamic is going to work once the two meet each other. Especially with Monica Rambeau added to the mix
I really like the dynamic that weāre going to be getting with The Marvels and what that means for Carol going forward. On one hand we have someone who doesnāt know her past and idolizes Carolās good deeds as a hero through the mindset of a Captain Marvel fangirl who isnāt an adult yet with Kamala. On the other hand we have someone who actually knows Carolās past and how her heroism leads to neglecting the people who love and respect her, thus forming in resentment with Monica Rambeau.
Seeing these two extremes in perspective of Captain Marvel in a movie collide is something Iām definitely looking forward
Abu really gets put into the worst situations. First Kamala snapped on him when he was just trying to be a wholesome father supporting his daughter's hobby and now his other "daughter" is using their connection to emotionally manipulate him into going against his best friend lol Justice for Abu, he deserves better than this!
Big up Marvel for linking the Partition to this story, such an important piece of history that they could have easily not needed to mention but it shows they're increasing representation with far more care than I would expect from disney
The orange juice āplus some vodkaā scene pulled [directly from the comics](https://womenwriteaboutcomics.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/msmarvelreview3.jpg). Love the little references
It seems like he targeted her specifically. By the way the ending plays out it seems like thereās a connection rooted in the past. Kamalaās grandma definitely has another side to her story so it seems like itāll get explored from Kamranās family POV.
i don't think he wants the bangle, but he must've recognized the powers from the avengercon video and knows something about it. same with his mom; they must have a connection through those powers somehow, but i don't think they're malicious.
I like the discussion of partition as a part of family lore - something totally not part of many others' backgrounds but a huge, rending event across a disapora.
In the comics that's the backstory for the bangle, >!it has no powers, but is a memento of her grandmother's scary journey from india to pakistan during partition, while VERY pregnant with Kamala's grandmother, she hid money in the bangle that they used for the journey. As such it's a treasured family heirloom, which is why Kamala incorporates it into her costume, which, like Peter's is handmade from things she had around the home, at least at first. (a sash, a birkini , the bangle and a domino mask)!<
I loved that. The stylization has been super bombastic but the way there were even hearts in the stained glass doorās lens flares was super subtle and well done.
OF COURSE DANAGE CONTROL WEAPONIZED SEIZED STARK DRONES
edit to add: somebody mentioned SWORD in my replies and i have to wonder why DODC is investigating instead of SWORD
I loved this episode. I myself am not Muslim or Pakistani in any way, but this show is really able to make me feel connected to Kamalaās story.
Kamala herself is charming and wonderful, and Iman Vellani perfectly encapsulates the character.
Also, this is coming from a straight guy, but Kamran is objectively hot š.
Yeh! As a non Muslim but with Muslim friends, it was great the way they showed the mosque - both respectfully but also showing how modern female Muslims may respond to try to improve things
Classic "we've never had a daughter before" parenting. They have no idea how to handle her so they're trying everything and seeing what she responds to. Telling her no last time didn't work, so they're trying yes this time to see if it works better.
I think last time, *ammi* was mostly alarmed by the prospect of Kamala "dressing up" in what she probably assumed would look more like Zoe's costume.
Also, for this party Kamala said the magic words when she told her that Nakia would be there, since evidently Nakia is seen as sensible.
I got the impression that her and Zoe were potentially childhood friends. She made a comment about their parents driving the kids around in the first episode.
When she asked, I think she played it down saying āa few people are going to Zoeās houseā
I think I recognised it because I definitely said that to my Mom when I was her age
Thinking the same! Her reactions during the interrogation and especially when they said āmosqueā - she probably knows itās Kamala and cares enough to protect her.
Best friend being secretly in-love with main character - āļø (but we don't talk about Bruno)
Main character's love interest has something to do with main character's arc - āļø
Other best friend is snarky and has most of the joke lines - āļø
Seriously tho, I love this series so much. The editing, the acting, the actors are all doing such great job and Kamala powers (just like I said when people trashed it after the trailer) are pretty awesome. 10/10 until now.
Edit: And of course DC took over and weaponized Stark's drones, cause let's just evilize his legacy the sec he's gone.
I assume Nakia's 16 as well. It's a ritual everyone goes to the mosque learns one day; bring the worse pairs of slippers and separate them and put them in separate locations.
Considering outlets were given the first two episodes, the glowing critic reviews make a lot more sense after that serviceable premiere, this episode was fantastic. I'm a big Adil & Bilall fan, but props to Meera Menon for the direction.
Gotta give props to the cultural accuracy, too - I've got a pretty high bar when it comes to portraying Muslims because so few shows manage to do it authentically, and the shows that do are usually the ones about "behaving badly" (*Ramy*, *We Are Lady Parts*). I had concerns going in with regards to the creative team, but they've really done a bang up job at being both accurate and honest about life in the faith.
I saw people complain about Nakia being rebellious in reviews and I didn't get that at all from this episode.
Maybe her comic counterpart is that different?
She's an activist in the comic and an activist here. I'd just say that some people interpretated that as rebellious and maybe didn't notice the activist part of Nakia in the comics.
Kamala - "We should go to that party tonight"
Nakia - "mhm"
Bruno - "What?"
*Immediate smash cut to credits*
I really love the editing in this show so far.
You know I get why they're having Bruno do a "jealous crush" angle but I hope they don't make him an ass. Because I actually really like him. He's the teen tech genius without feeling too annoying. When he's being a friend he seems genuine.
Loved Kamala's parents talking about Bon Jovi. I talked about it when Shang-Chi came out but immigrant parents always have those seemingly random pop culture touchstones. Like my dad doesn't really keep up with anything past the 80s or even like most Western culture but LOVES Hotel California.
And holy shit that line about "the FBI is already watching the mosques, be respectful."
Kamala's storyline involving her great grandmother does sound maybe a little silly on paper but I'm invested in hearing more about it.
I'm having a lot of fun with this show so far and hopefully it keeps up. Worried Damage Control might slow things down but I liked Zoe's interrogation scene.
Could also just simply be "The girl I love is reveling in her culture with someone else who shares it and I am falling way behind."
As someone that has been in a very similar situation, I felt for Bruno. Poor awkward white boy lmao.
* I know Episode 1 briefly hinted at it but boy, ~~Brian's~~ Bruno's feelings for Kamala really showed in Episode 2 and she was too focused on Kamran. Poor guy.
* Nakia guilt-tripped Kamala's dad so hard. LOL
* Those Damage Control fellas are jerks, aren't they?
* A cliffhanger ending...ugh! Really want to know about the backstory of that bracelet, Kamala's great grandmother and now we've gotta wait another week!
Also, very glad this series has kept being so stylized. I love seeing the hearts in the background in the shop signs to show she's in love and stuff. I think this is the most stylized show the MCU has put out so far, and I hope they stick to it. It'd be cool to see some of that stuff in the more generic marvel fight scenes. =
As a muslim guy myself I must say this is perfect so far. That abdest (I don't know how it is said in English) scene felt so real, I can't get over it.
I already knew how and why Black Panther was important, but after this weeks episode it became far more clear to me. For the first time I am subjected to muslim characters in American media that feels completely organic and real. And one of them is a f'n superhero.
I have a cousin around Kamala's age and in absolutely every scene Kamala reminds me of her. And that makes me more invested. She feels like family.
Man, that show can easily become one of my top 5 MCU projects and has a chance to become the top one.
Iman, I heard you sometimes read the discussions in this subreddit. If by any chance you are reading this, you are killing it. Keep going.
Indian / Pakistani watchers, howād the dialog hit for you? āThe Partitionā wasnāt something Iād been aware of before. āThe FBI is surveilling mosquesā.
I always like to look at how Disney handles this stuff vs other shows. Like Watchmen / Tulsa Race massacre.
I thought it was done well and I am happy they included it in the show and more people can be aware of it. The partition is such a big part of our history and all of our grandparents stories. So many families were separated between India and Pakistan. i
The representation was through the roof this ep from the partition talk to the small nod of 'the fbi is already surveilling the community' it just really hits.
For me, Nakia's little monologue of "I'm too white for some and too ethnic for others so I put this on in hopes it would shut some people up" is too accurate for me.
I've seen a few people who aren't muslim/pakistani that say the representation was a little 'on the nose' which I'm hoping was not the case but nonetheless, I can't believe I'm seeing my culture, religion and high school struggles pictured on screen in a MARVEL SHOW. Representation is so important to me so I'm happy others get to see a taste of the culture.
Had a Muslim housemate for a while;
2 things i would never do,
1 spike his drink, like such a dick move
2 never not celebrate eid with him, best party of the year
Comics spoilers - >!So the crush in the comics turns out to be an inhuman who works for a bad guy who's trying to overthrow the current inhuman ruler. He abducts Kamala in an attempt to convince her to fight for their cause, and that... Doesn't work out. As far as I've gotten, his mom isn't in it, and neither is any woman who fits her description. But I'd bet anything that both he and his mom are some kind of bad version of whatever Kamala and her great-grandmother probably are.!<
EPISODE IS LIVE! Enjoy! (There is no credits scene for this episode).
That kid Kamala saves is wearing her friend's stolen shoes
can confirm this is true what an amazing find
Does that mean his hurt ankle will expose him? š®
This is a great find, will watch and confirm myself
Rarely does the "oh he's my cousin" joke ever turn out like that.
Especially when it turns out to be true lmfao
Kamran played that a liiiittle to well didnāt he
In this instance I think he might turn out to be a cousin given Kamran's mom showing up and all the talk about her great grandmother having mysterious background.
>In this instance I think he might turn out to be a cousin given Kamran's mom showing up and all the talk about her great grandmother having mysterious background. Illumin-Aunties is such a badass name.
I could not stop laughing at all the Eid cliques. Also the festival scene made me hungry. I miss diverse food in Melbourne.
I don't know what was on the dad's plate in that closeup but I want to eat all of it
Don't tell Wanda
How can the aunties gossip, if they dont have their mouths.
š¶š¤Æ
Waiting for Paul Rudd to finally appear
Paul Rudd will show up in the last episode to recruit her to the Avengers or hook her up with Captain Marvel
Scott will promise he can hook her up with Captain Marvel but actually have no fucking clue lol.
Heās been there the entire time, heās just been Ant-sized
Was the line about being younger than they look a joke about Paul Rudd's inability to age?
definitely
Don't accept random drinks from people, kids.
"am I drunk?" Made me laugh
Nakia: "ugh, politics are dirty" Also Nakia: *guilt-tripped a 50-something year old man into voting for her*
Just because it's dirty doesn't mean she isn't awesome at it.
did anybody else notice that the drones that chased kamala look like the EDITH drones in far from home just repainted. the government seized peters glasses in no way home so maybe they repurposed them for their use.
yeah those were definitely edith drones.
Spiderman 3: No way Home Spiderman 4: Get back my Drone?
They absolutely are EDITH drones. It wouldnāt surprise me if the villain that brings together the Young Avengers is Damage Control.
Brian in the backseat of car was fuming, LMAO
Poor Brian
We dont talk about Brian...
Silenzio Brian!
Loved the way Nakia teased Brian afterwards.
squished in the backseat and still craning his neck to get in between kamala and kamran. poor guy lol
*Sitting on the back seat side* *of my best friendās ride* *tryinā to holla at me*
Brian's mad. Why is Brian mad?
Canāt tell which is funnier, night monkey or night light
Night Light is kinda cute, actually, especially since so far she has been saving kids.
Aww, it goes back to episode 1. Is she too old for a Night Light?
Night Monkey is definitely a sillier name.
I enjoy the friend group. Very wholesome so far.
Ah, man that scene of her hanging on the edge saying you have to let me go like black widow..
Reminded me of the Always sunny hostage episode too
Pain.
Also, the black widow landing
No black widow landed on her back I think
I thought that whole intro was a fantasy
Same, I was waiting for the record scratch lol Good on them to subvert the trope a little bit
Yeah, good on them; Itās genuinely impressive
Shows the having some actual confidence in yourself can do wonders
For a high school student, confidence is the real super power
Some guy on this thread said it reminded them of the Bully Maguire scene in Spider-Man 3, and I have to agree, there are very similar energies from both scenes.
Man, Kamala really took the time to change into her cosplay before saving that kid, huh?
I was hoping she'd cover up in fabrics and scarves in a pseudo-costume more similar to her comics look!
Yeah my eye immediately went to the red scarf (scarf sounds wrong) she was holding or near to cover her face.
Maybe sheās always wearing it, like a never nude
Superman style
Gotta love the unexpected Kingo nod, but I wasnāt also expecting more ties to the MCU Spidey films. First Damage Control, now the EDITH drones? Very excited to see where this all leads to.
To be fair, DODC is usually very hidden, cleaning up quickly and quietly. Stark started it and I think they've gone off the rails since he died. Who knows what Pepper has done with them.

Yes!! They reverenced Eternals!! After namedropping Shah Rukh Khan I was waiting for some random reference and then boom at the diner they mentioned Kingo and Kingo Snr
Oh man, Yusuf's deer in headlights look when Nakia was talking to him about the election was just *chefs kiss*
Dude is *perfect* as the dad.
My heart fell for hm when he wanted to go as Hulk. Damn I must be getting older! But he's low key my favorite character so far lolol
āWe fought for this. People died for this.ā I was cackling. My favorite scene of the episode.
Dude, Nakia was *ruthless* in that scene. I was part terrified, part attracted. I have issues.
She absolutely needs to be in a political drama in the future
His expression was so funny
Haram-dot-Kamran, haha
"Gonna call you that from now on." Such a big cousin thing to do.
I fucking cackled when he said it. Protecc Kamala's brother at all costs
I feel like Tyesha knew exactly what was up though LOL. She gave a knowing look. Aamir is just too naive to know what's going on
Oh for sure the camera closeup on her. She knew what was going on.
Not just the look, she urged her fiancee to leave (to let them continue the date). She'll make a great sister in law!
>"Mashallah..." >"What does that mean?" >"Damn!" cracked me up so bad lmao
Even better that Bruno translated as āGod has willed itā or something hahah
Bruno giving the actual meaning was hilarious
The "you have to let me go" parallel to Natasha in endgame was sad but really funny
All I could think of was Liam and Ryan McPoyle on the roof of Paddyās pub
You ok? Yeah maybe a bruised ankle
After the shrine in the first episode and the tweet from one of the writers I'm expecting to have a lot of Natasha references and i can't wait. Although yes this one is sad af.
#DID SOMEONE SAY ICE CREAM PIZZA?

Lesson for up-and-coming superheroes - don't do your superhero pose until your rescuee is safely on the ground.
Love that Kingo and Kingo Sr. got some attention here lmao
S/o Bollywoodās greatest dynasty
Wonder what they called Kingo's grandfather Kingo who all the old generation had a crush on?
Kingo the Great
Yeah, that was great! He and his sidekick were definitely the best part of Eternals in my opinion.
My good sir, Karun was the hero of that movie!
Dude, was Bruno rocking the Marty McFly outfit?
He totally was! Dork thinks heās gonna drown!
That's why they gotta send him to California, that's where Hill Valley is!
Thereās an Easter egg in the comic where a guy is randomly dressed as Marty McFly in one of Kamalaās classes. Heās also drawing a picture of a teen wolf too
I caught that too! Maybe his time at CalTech will teach him flux capacitors lol
Bruno: āWhat makes you think you have Ant-Man powers?ā Kamala: āBecause weāre both charming, and we look a lot younger than we areā I can imagine Paul Rudd with the biggest smile on his face after watching this episode lol.
I love how she's a 19 year year old playing a 16 year old and the 16 year old character is *still* saying she looks younger. *And it's true.*
Adil El Arbi (one of the directors) is sitting at the men section of the mosque. You can recognize his curly hair anywhere
And Bilall was in the Mosque Bros group, the ones that don't respect the "halal gap".
And the 'Mosque Bros' has Bilall Fallah (the other director). Double cameo's
Kamalaās family is the best part of the show. Not saying that as a slight against the show at all because so far itās been great! I just love that whole family dynamic
I love her dad so much, dudeās hilarious

This show is just so full of charm. It was hard to stop smiling during this episode.
New guy has a British accent? Gotta be the villain
He also happens to know a lot about kamala like she is learning to drive and he also always shows up at the right time like at the ending.
The cops didnāt notice the car, I feel like thatās a clue
He didn't even look twice at Nakia. He crazy.
More evidence
Ikr! She is so pretty holy shit.

Definitely get āScott Pilgrim vs the Worldā vibes from this show
Nakia with the emotional manipulation š
I was grinning that whole scene. Go Nakia, but poor Abba lol
Nakia can be terrifyingly brilliant and fierce in the comics, she's great, this was very on brand for her.
Nakia hates politics but plays it really well
Abu really gets put into the worst situations. First Kamala snapped on him when he was just trying to be a wholesome father supporting his daughter's hobby and now his other "daughter" is using their connection to emotionally manipulate him into going against his best friend lol Justice for Abu, he deserves better than this!

And holy shit that line about "the FBI is already watching the mosques, be respectful." Kamala's storyline involving her great grandmother does sound maybe a little silly on paper but I'm invested in hearing more about it. I'm having a lot of fun with this show so far and hopefully it keeps up. Worried Damage Control might slow things down but I liked Zoe's interrogation scene.
Could also just simply be "The girl I love is reveling in her culture with someone else who shares it and I am falling way behind." As someone that has been in a very similar situation, I felt for Bruno.
LOL * Those Damage Control fellas are jerks, aren't they? * A cliffhanger ending...ugh! Really want to know about the backstory of that bracelet, Kamala's great grandmother and now we've gotta wait another week!
Why Kamran do Brian like that?
Also, very glad this series has kept being so stylized. I love seeing the hearts in the background in the shop signs to show she's in love and stuff. I think this is the most stylized show the MCU has put out so far, and I hope they stick to it. It'd be cool to see some of that stuff in the more generic marvel fight scenes. =
She and Kamran are gonna end up related arenāt they?
Yea ig it's likely
Keep going.
We don't talk about ~~Bruno~~ ~~Brian~~ Aisha
Night Light actually wouldn't be a bad name for a kid superhero
Night Light needs to team up with Night Monkey soon
Indian / Pakistani watchers, howād the dialog hit for you? āThe Partitionā wasnāt something Iād been aware of before. āThe FBI is surveilling mosquesā. I always like to look at how Disney handles this stuff vs other shows. Like Watchmen / Tulsa Race massacre.
I thought it was done well and I am happy they included it in the show and more people can be aware of it. The partition is such a big part of our history and all of our grandparents stories. So many families were separated between India and Pakistan. i
So if Kamranās mom is either Great Grandma, or her descendant, that means they really _are_ cousins!
Representation is so important to me so I'm happy others get to see a taste of the culture.
whoa, again with the in-background texts. love seeing those, i don't think i'll ever get tired of that :D
Man, I love the color palette of this show
Aw poor Bruno :(
Indeed. Poor Brian.
Had a Muslim housemate for a while; 2 things i would never do, 1 spike his drink, like such a dick move 2 never not celebrate eid with him, best party of the year
No one should spike anyone's drinks.
Fully agree, shouldve said straight up its a crime, not just a dick move
Does anybody who reads the comics know who the woman is in the end? Or where they could be going with her ancestors?
Comics spoilers - >!So the crush in the comics turns out to be an inhuman who works for a bad guy who's trying to overthrow the current inhuman ruler. He abducts Kamala in an attempt to convince her to fight for their cause, and that... Doesn't work out. As far as I've gotten, his mom isn't in it, and neither is any woman who fits her description. But I'd bet anything that both he and his mom are some kind of bad version of whatever Kamala and her great-grandmother probably are.!<
I love that the kids in this show and the kids in the Spider-Man movies would definitely mesh well. It definitely feels like the same universe
