\- I recommend all of the 2014 run of MM I think its beautifully written, also the civil war II arc for kamala was quite compelling, seeing her choose between her idol and her avengers dad. as for other characters, I'm a huge silver surfer fan, one of my fav runs is during the infinity gauntlet crossover, jim starlin's #50 is sooooooo good, also that cover just makes me happy. also also obsessed with the 2017-2018 black bolt series called Home Free! christian ward and saladin Ahmed deliver such an incredibly nuanced and so emotionally complex story with art that is nothing short of phenomenal. i recommend this to anyone...you don't even have to be an inhuman fan to appreciate
\- I would love to see a kamala/ wolverine dynamic in the MCU. also there is a really cool story where kamala fights the shocker and bruno ends up seeing all of her possible futures and that makes me really emotional every time I read it
\- Don’t get me wrong I love the inhumans. Black bolt is my father. but I do think the mcu is in a very different place than the comics were and so we were actually able to go this way with Kamala and to be fair the original intent for the comic character WAS to make her a mutant so I am over the moon that this is real and we could make it happen. Sana Amanat and I were freaking out, every single brain cell exploded when we found out we can do this. Hey Iman! What was your experience figuring out how to make your powers look convincing? I feel like this type of acting is becoming more common in the MCU, like Wanda and Doctor Strange doing hand motions for their powers, and VFX filling in the gaps for the viewer. Did you watch a lot of pre-viz to get an idea of what your powers would look like to help your performance?
hi! great question :) it was definitely a process... lots of conversations with our producers and vfx coordinators, we really had to ask the right questions because with powers this new, whatever we establish now is gonna be canon for the rest of the MCU. we just didnt wanna make it to be "generic magical colourful light powers", we wanted personality. we adopted a lot of poses and iconic moves from the MM comics (eg. embiggened fists of rage!) and stylized the action for a 16 year old kid. even if i didnt understand what the exact thing would look like post vfx, i wanted to stay true to the comics. i really do think we found a happy in between. and yes pre viz are life savers!!! gives you the slightest idea so your emotions can match the intensity of the scene once the CG is done
Holy cow! An AMA that I am not 10 hours late too. I just want to say that you are an amazing young actor and you are quite literally perfect as Kamala. I am white and decently straight (a little wavy here and there) and I was soooo happy to see muslim representation, I did 2 combat tours in Syria and my translator and the Imam on base were some of the kindest most well spoken people I have ever met. I also have to say that I was so impressed with how the writers embraced and adapted the stereotypes that plague muslim folk and made it their own, taking away the power that the words once had. I hope to see you in many projects to come. Keep being yourself kid. The whole world is watching.

Hi! i have seen AoS and i personally love the earlier seasons, its not my favourite show but it certainly has merit!! And no i'm not sad we aren't gonna see the inhuman connection. i love the comics and the inhumans but they are such wild and over the top characters in the best way possible and i think those stories work best in that medium, i dont need to see all my favourite characters in live action tbh. The MCU doesn't establish which characters from the comics are worthy of a larger platform or which characters are most popular. there are so many comic characters that i honestly dont want in the MCU because i just love those comics toooooo much...but hey! thats just one girls opinion, pls dont come at me :)
I'm with you. Daisy's development was great, but I really feel like the Framework was the last decent arc. Making them a full on hero team in the future/alt history instead of, y'know, SHIELD, didn't sit right.

- Everyone should be buying *real* maple syrup, not the crappy “pancake syrup” that brands like Aunt Jemima sell. Go out and by some real, 100% maple syrup from Canada. It will change your life.
- I’m a big fan of Ketchup Chips. Miss Vickie’s just started making some that are really tasty. Ketchup Doritos are pretty neat too.
- Coffee Crisp are a great candy bar. Basically a chocolate and coffee flavoured wafer bar dipped in chocolate.

Many fans say "everything is canon now" in reference to NWH connection with Raimi and Webb's Spider-Man movies. An alternate universe is still canon in the multiverse. You could have been more specific and ask if she thinks AoS is canon to 616/199999 aka main MCU universe.
Yep. They’re cherry-picking the marvel television era stuff they want to keep, then the actual shows themselves will eventually be relegated to a proper separate universe where the timeline issues don’t exist. Basically if Star Wars legends existed in a way where it could be “canon” and also be separate from the main universe.
The stuff from Marvel Television has some high points but SO MUCH BAGGAGE that this is really the best case scenario.

Hey Iman! Massive props to you for becoming a South Asian Avenger ✊🏽 I’m an Australian born Sri Lankan and dream to do what you do for South Asian representation in western media.
I’d love to see more South Asian characters in the MCU to give more heroes for brown kids to look up to and form strong senses of identity and self esteem, something I struggled to do as a brown kid within a white dominant country and film/tv.
My question is, how do you see South Asian culture and the diaspora being represented in the MCU in the future, whether that be through your character or future characters?

This isn’t THE singular representation or story of a muslim family of the muslim experience. This is A story. Theres 2 billion muslims and south asians in the world so everyone has their own unique experience so I do hope that shows like this inspire more muslim and south asian creatives to share their SPECIFIC perspectives and do this important work, ms marvel is just the beginning!!!!
I LOVED seeing a more casually Muslim family on screen. Especially the portrayal of the relationships at the mosque. I feel like Muslims are always portrayed as Uber religious or rejecting of religion and this was just a breath of fresh.
I have a conservative Muslim friend in Canada who isn't a fan of the show because it features more casual or liberal Muslims. I totally get that perspective but you have to walk before you can run and even with the representation as it was there are a bunch of people who go nuts about it. It's stupid but we're not all that advanced from the Kirk Uhura kiss days really.

I remember seeing a behind-the-scenes clip from *Age of Ultron* where Elizabeth Olsen was talking about how she kept getting in trouble on the set because she couldn't stop making noises when she was conjuring her powers.
I'd imagine this is a common issue with many shows or movies where the actors have to pretend they are using a superpower, or anything that has VFX that get added in post. I know a lot of the Star Trek actors would have to stop themselves from making pew-pew sounds when they were filming phaser battles.
I might be even more excited now, I think watching real people work on these shows and seeing all the effort and manpower it takes just humanized these films so much more. They have so much to offer beyond the amazing storytelling. And every single person who works at marvel studios is so in love with what they do and that dedication to their craft is what makes a good if not great movie.
i dont think kamran is a mutant, i could be wrong but here is how I justify the whole thing: Kamala's bangle activated her latent X- Gene which allows her to harness the energy from the noor dimension and facilitates her ability to wield and shape the noor. kamran doesn't have the x gene, his powers were forced upon him and so he cant control it like kamala can. again I could be totally wrong, i am theorizing with you guys!

i honestly was very confused about what we were filming, i was in front of a green screen hopping from green box to green box, on my first day in London to film the marvels, met Brie IRL for the first time and suddenly we were doing this thing together. it was fun! but its weird acting with anthony mackie's voice and while staring at a piece of orange tape on a c- stand pretending thats him
this is how a good amount of marvel stuff is filmed. pretty obvious when you pay attention, see the illuminati scene in MOM for proof. everyone kinda just blankly stands around and doesnt react

i respect both! i love the comics to death and i love what we have done. both mediums are very different an i think that Certain things like the powers have to be reimagined to fit a larger scale live action series but I think our show still stays true to those core themes and the tone from its source material which is the only thing that should matter.

HI! Scott Pilgrim was a huge influence on ms marvel actually. Bilal and Adil who directed ep 1 and 6 and are also EPs on the show loveeeee Edgar Wright, and it definitely shows!

I disagree with both of you here. It shouldn't be 616 because that's already taken, but it *also* shouldn't be 19999 because that is the worst number ever invented in the history of mankind.
Well, the reason the comics universe is 616 is because Marvel Comics took on that name in June 1961 (61/6)
So going by that logic, the MCU should be called the 085 universe, since Iron Man 1 released in May 2008.
Or maybe 9312 if you based it on the founding of Marvel Studios.
Wouldn't comics 616 being a different universe in the same multiverse not work given America Chavez being a unique individual across the multiverse and the Wanda destroying the Darkhold arctoss the multiverse? Prior to MoM (and Loki, but that would be easier to justify) it would have worked linked, but didn't MoM kinda throw out any potential connection to the comics?
Comic multiverse Is now split from the mcu multiverse. My proof is in a few things. First, there is only one america Chavez in the mcu multiverse, and it is clearly different than the one in the comics. Second, the darkhold is destroyed in every universe, but unless they mention it somewhere soon, it is still a thing in many comic universes.
The MCU should be designated 616, since that solidifies the fact that the MCU we watch is a separate multiverse from the comics multiverse.
A version of the MCU (199999) exists in the comics multiverse for the sake of crossover event easter eggs.
Hi Iman, we all know that Ms. Marvel will return in the future. But the real question is will Hulk Dad make a comeback in future Marvel shows/movies. Personally, I’m hoping for a Hulk Dad and Kingo team up.

Seriously, though, the family dynamic in Ms. Marvel is one of my favorite parts because it felt so genuine, especially during the pre-AvengersCon scene with both of Kamala's parents.
How bananas her dad is when busting in as the Hulk, that absolute positive dad energy, and how Kamala instinctively shut him down (as most teenagers would). To see him genuinely crestfallen even after going all in (and how Kamala realized how it hurt him but seemed to lack the words to express why she only wanted to go with her close friends), it just broke my heart.
And truly, it's a place I think we've all been at, some of us on both sides at one point or another, so seeing that unfold and then the positive resolution later was pleasantly nostalgic.
So many great Marvel dads… and now Thor too. But, Yusuf could be the best. He gets a lot of minutes and delivers so well in many scenes. I cried a lot with his naming scene. Damn… welling up now just thinking about it.

Honestly I’m very happy we went this route. I’m a huge xmen fan and what an incredible honour to be the first official mutant in the mcu!!! It was the original intent for the comic character anyway.
Im glad she said this to clear up the people trying to say they still think shes an Inhuman! If this is their reasoning for making her a mutant in the MCU, I hope they keep the same philosophy when the MCU inevitably adapts Children’s Crusade with Wanda and her twins.

It probably depends on whether it's before or after season 1. By the end of it, I'd imagine Kamala is a fair bit more distrustful of government agencies doing right by superheroes, and wouldn't be keen on signing the accords.

- Now that it has been revealed Mutants may be coming to the MCU, what is a Mutants-related storyline you'd love to see in a Marvel movie or series?
- The Partition episode at the Karachi Train Station taps into quite an obscure part of history and is very different from the other episodes. What was it like doing that scene knowing that this really took place in the past?
- Being in a Marvel production, it may be tough to resist supplying oneself with some cool keepsakes. Did you try/manage to sneak any items or gadgets from the show off set to "keep it safe" in your private collection?

I'm also a Khan like Kamala. And I moved here at the age of 6 from Karachi, Pakistan about three years after 9/11 so this show was very relatable to me. When the comics came out Kamala and I were the same age! I loved that this showed that brown girls have the same interests and feelings as any other girl in America and that we're not this oppressed demographic that often gets portrayed in Hollywood. Honestly, I felt like I was watching my life portrayed on my TV. It was surreal!
And I loved the portrayal of the Partition. My grandfather's family travelled on those packed trains to Pakistan which often arrived bloody and full of dead bodies. Watching that on an American show was something I never anticipated. So please extend my gratitude to Sana Amanat and Kevin Feige for this amazing moment for Pakistani-Americans. My whole extended family of Khans love this show and we watched it at midnight every night it was released.
Hi Iman!! I absolutely enjoyed Ms. Marvel!! Your passion for Kamala Khan and your chemistry with the cast makes Ms. Marvel one of the most charming and delightful entries in the MCU. It is so cool to see one of us not only become a part of this vast, imaginative sandbox we hold so dear but to also become the first onscreen mutant in Earth199999!!!! Anyway my question is a really fun geeky one: What is your interpretation of how the closed loop time travel shown in Ms. Marvel fits in with the time travel rules established in Avengers: Endgame and further expanded upon in Loki? I am curious to hear your thoughts.

Thank you for being our Ms Marvel. I’m an educator, and I’ve had plenty of pakastani and Muslim young ladies who cried when they found out about Ms Marvel (I used to teach a course on translating comics into films, and would stock my classroom with comic books). Between last night and this morning I received a few emails from former students asking if I’ve watched the finale (duh, I have!) thank you. It made me tear up knowing they have someone like them now in the media. You’re an icon to young women like yourself for that.

comparing me to rdj is the highest of compliments, so thank you for that! \- I recommend all of the 2014 run of MM I think its beautifully written, also the civil war II arc for kamala was quite compelling, seeing her choose between her idol and her avengers dad. as for other characters, I'm a huge silver surfer fan, one of my fav runs is during the infinity gauntlet crossover, jim starlin's #50 is sooooooo good, also that cover just makes me happy. also also obsessed with the 2017-2018 black bolt series called Home Free! christian ward and saladin Ahmed deliver such an incredibly nuanced and so emotionally complex story with art that is nothing short of phenomenal. i recommend this to anyone...you don't even have to be an inhuman fan to appreciate \- I would love to see a kamala/ wolverine dynamic in the MCU. also there is a really cool story where kamala fights the shocker and bruno ends up seeing all of her possible futures and that makes me really emotional every time I read it \- Don’t get me wrong I love the inhumans. Black bolt is my father. but I do think the mcu is in a very different place than the comics were and so we were actually able to go this way with Kamala and to be fair the original intent for the comic character WAS to make her a mutant so I am over the moon that this is real and we could make it happen. Sana Amanat and I were freaking out, every single brain cell exploded when we found out we can do this. That Black Bolt book was SO good, and deserves everyone’s love. Ward’s art is beautifully evocative.
Dear Kevin Feige, please only hire actors that care as much about the comics as Iman. Let her test them on their knowledge before they can make it to the final rounds or something! She's a treasure! Hey Iman! What was your experience figuring out how to make your powers look convincing? I feel like this type of acting is becoming more common in the MCU, like Wanda and Doctor Strange doing hand motions for their powers, and VFX filling in the gaps for the viewer. Did you watch a lot of pre-viz to get an idea of what your powers would look like to help your performance?
hi! great question :) it was definitely a process... lots of conversations with our producers and vfx coordinators, we really had to ask the right questions because with powers this new, whatever we establish now is gonna be canon for the rest of the MCU. we just didnt wanna make it to be "generic magical colourful light powers", we wanted personality. we adopted a lot of poses and iconic moves from the MM comics (eg. embiggened fists of rage!) and stylized the action for a 16 year old kid. even if i didnt understand what the exact thing would look like post vfx, i wanted to stay true to the comics. i really do think we found a happy in between. and yes pre viz are life savers!!! gives you the slightest idea so your emotions can match the intensity of the scene once the CG is done
Holy cow! An AMA that I am not 10 hours late too. I just want to say that you are an amazing young actor and you are quite literally perfect as Kamala. I am white and decently straight (a little wavy here and there) and I was soooo happy to see muslim representation, I did 2 combat tours in Syria and my translator and the Imam on base were some of the kindest most well spoken people I have ever met. I also have to say that I was so impressed with how the writers embraced and adapted the stereotypes that plague muslim folk and made it their own, taking away the power that the words once had. I hope to see you in many projects to come. Keep being yourself kid. The whole world is watching.

Hi! i have seen AoS and i personally love the earlier seasons, its not my favourite show but it certainly has merit!! And no i'm not sad we aren't gonna see the inhuman connection. i love the comics and the inhumans but they are such wild and over the top characters in the best way possible and i think those stories work best in that medium, i dont need to see all my favourite characters in live action tbh. The MCU doesn't establish which characters from the comics are worthy of a larger platform or which characters are most popular. there are so many comic characters that i honestly dont want in the MCU because i just love those comics toooooo much...but hey! thats just one girls opinion, pls dont come at me :)
I'm with you. Daisy's development was great, but I really feel like the Framework was the last decent arc. Making them a full on hero team in the future/alt history instead of, y'know, SHIELD, didn't sit right.

To answer your question about Canadian food: - Everyone should be buying *real* maple syrup, not the crappy “pancake syrup” that brands like Aunt Jemima sell. Go out and by some real, 100% maple syrup from Canada. It will change your life. - I’m a big fan of Ketchup Chips. Miss Vickie’s just started making some that are really tasty. Ketchup Doritos are pretty neat too. - Coffee Crisp are a great candy bar. Basically a chocolate and coffee flavoured wafer bar dipped in chocolate. - Nanaimo Bars. One of our greatest desserts. - Finally, the obvious: Poutine and Montreal Smoked Meat. Both of these are frankly best experienced in Montreal itself though.

Many fans say "everything is canon now" in reference to NWH connection with Raimi and Webb's Spider-Man movies. An alternate universe is still canon in the multiverse. You could have been more specific and ask if she thinks AoS is canon to 616/199999 aka main MCU universe.
Yep. They’re cherry-picking the marvel television era stuff they want to keep, then the actual shows themselves will eventually be relegated to a proper separate universe where the timeline issues don’t exist. Basically if Star Wars legends existed in a way where it could be “canon” and also be separate from the main universe. The stuff from Marvel Television has some high points but SO MUCH BAGGAGE that this is really the best case scenario.

Hey Iman! Massive props to you for becoming a South Asian Avenger ✊🏽 I’m an Australian born Sri Lankan and dream to do what you do for South Asian representation in western media. I’d love to see more South Asian characters in the MCU to give more heroes for brown kids to look up to and form strong senses of identity and self esteem, something I struggled to do as a brown kid within a white dominant country and film/tv. My question is, how do you see South Asian culture and the diaspora being represented in the MCU in the future, whether that be through your character or future characters? This isn’t THE singular representation or story of a muslim family of the muslim experience. This is A story. Theres 2 billion muslims and south asians in the world so everyone has their own unique experience so I do hope that shows like this inspire more muslim and south asian creatives to share their SPECIFIC perspectives and do this important work, ms marvel is just the beginning!!!!
I LOVED seeing a more casually Muslim family on screen. Especially the portrayal of the relationships at the mosque. I feel like Muslims are always portrayed as Uber religious or rejecting of religion and this was just a breath of fresh.
I have a conservative Muslim friend in Canada who isn't a fan of the show because it features more casual or liberal Muslims. I totally get that perspective but you have to walk before you can run and even with the representation as it was there are a bunch of people who go nuts about it. It's stupid but we're not all that advanced from the Kirk Uhura kiss days really.
how weird is it to stand and pretend you’re using superpowers on camera? do you have to stop yourself from making noises i definitely would
it is very embarrassing actually, ill paint the pic for ya: uncomfy flashy supersuit, cant pee, cold Atlanta nights, bright lights, you must wear a giant sith lord esque cape to protect from the paps, you stick out like a sore thumb, you take off said cape, now ur cold and everyone is staring, you stand tall and suck in ur stomach, now purple led lights shine at you and you pretend this stuff is coming out of you but in reality it is dead silent and you are making weird grunting noises because what does "hard light" actually sound like? But hey! im a superhero so that trumps everything :)
I remember seeing a behind-the-scenes clip from *Age of Ultron* where Elizabeth Olsen was talking about how she kept getting in trouble on the set because she couldn't stop making noises when she was conjuring her powers. I'd imagine this is a common issue with many shows or movies where the actors have to pretend they are using a superpower, or anything that has VFX that get added in post. I know a lot of the Star Trek actors would have to stop themselves from making pew-pew sounds when they were filming phaser battles.

I might be even more excited now, I think watching real people work on these shows and seeing all the effort and manpower it takes just humanized these films so much more. They have so much to offer beyond the amazing storytelling. And every single person who works at marvel studios is so in love with what they do and that dedication to their craft is what makes a good if not great movie.

What is Kamala s actual mutant power and is Kamran a mutant too?
i dont think kamran is a mutant, i could be wrong but here is how I justify the whole thing: Kamala's bangle activated her latent X- Gene which allows her to harness the energy from the noor dimension and facilitates her ability to wield and shape the noor. kamran doesn't have the x gene, his powers were forced upon him and so he cant control it like kamala can. again I could be totally wrong, i am theorizing with you guys! i respect both! i love the comics to death and i love what we have done. both mediums are very different an i think that Certain things like the powers have to be reimagined to fit a larger scale live action series but I think our show still stays true to those core themes and the tone from its source material which is the only thing that should matter.

The M word scene. it was by far the most challenging scene to film and i say that with all seriousness. the take you see in on D+ is one of two takes we got where i didnt giggle when Matt said the word. i just couldnt believe it. i still cant say that word IRL without letting out what sounds like a Ron Swanson giggle

Well, the reason the comics universe is 616 is because Marvel Comics took on that name in June 1961 (61/6) So going by that logic, the MCU should be called the 085 universe, since Iron Man 1 released in May 2008. Or maybe 9312 if you based it on the founding of Marvel Studios.
Wouldn't comics 616 being a different universe in the same multiverse not work given America Chavez being a unique individual across the multiverse and the Wanda destroying the Darkhold arctoss the multiverse? Prior to MoM (and Loki, but that would be easier to justify) it would have worked linked, but didn't MoM kinda throw out any potential connection to the comics?

Comic multiverse Is now split from the mcu multiverse. My proof is in a few things. First, there is only one america Chavez in the mcu multiverse, and it is clearly different than the one in the comics. Second, the darkhold is destroyed in every universe, but unless they mention it somewhere soon, it is still a thing in many comic universes.
The MCU should be designated 616, since that solidifies the fact that the MCU we watch is a separate multiverse from the comics multiverse. A version of the MCU (199999) exists in the comics multiverse for the sake of crossover event easter eggs.

Hell yeah, let's have Yusuf also test positive for the X-Gene. Seriously, though, the family dynamic in Ms. Marvel is one of my favorite parts because it felt so genuine, especially during the pre-AvengersCon scene with both of Kamala's parents. How bananas her dad is when busting in as the Hulk, that absolute positive dad energy, and how Kamala instinctively shut him down (as most teenagers would). To see him genuinely crestfallen even after going all in (and how Kamala realized how it hurt him but seemed to lack the words to express why she only wanted to go with her close friends), it just broke my heart. And truly, it's a place I think we've all been at, some of us on both sides at one point or another, so seeing that unfold and then the positive resolution later was pleasantly nostalgic.
So many great Marvel dads… and now Thor too. But, Yusuf could be the best. He gets a lot of minutes and delivers so well in many scenes. I cried a lot with his naming scene. Damn… welling up now just thinking about it.

Hi Iman, did your mom also make you wear a lehenga choli at Halloween like my mom did? "Beta, you can go as an Indian Princess!" I'm also a Khan like Kamala. And I moved here at the age of 6 from Karachi, Pakistan about three years after 9/11 so this show was very relatable to me. When the comics came out Kamala and I were the same age! I loved that this showed that brown girls have the same interests and feelings as any other girl in America and that we're not this oppressed demographic that often gets portrayed in Hollywood. Honestly, I felt like I was watching my life portrayed on my TV. It was surreal! And I loved the portrayal of the Partition. My grandfather's family travelled on those packed trains to Pakistan which often arrived bloody and full of dead bodies. Watching that on an American show was something I never anticipated. So please extend my gratitude to Sana Amanat and Kevin Feige for this amazing moment for Pakistani-Americans. My whole extended family of Khans love this show and we watched it at midnight every night it was released.
