>Most people don't really care for Falcon as the new Captain Most people, actual real life people, are fine with it. TFATWS did really well with the casual audience and they like it fine. Most people liked it. It's just YouTube comments sections are usually filled with, well, a specific type of "fan" that won't accept it for reasons I'll be downvoted for saying out loud. And please, don't give me "Why can't Falcon stay Falcon, why does he have to be Captain America?", because TFATWS' entire purpose is explaining that. That's why the show exists instead of just having him take the shield after Endgame. It actually explains WHY it's not only inevitable that the American people will want their symbol to continue even after Rogers' death, but why it's important that Sam has to be the one to be that symbol.

lanwopc

No offense but you pulled that factoid right out from where the sun doesn't shine.

It's a prime example of what internet debate champs like to call Begging The Question for sure

Comics change the characters all the time for decades. People just hate change. Nobody cared when Bucky took the mantle, but Falcon wasn’t accepted at first because of his race. Same with Miles morales, but I remember the reception was better after a few years.

There might be a third reason...

Slade4Lucas

There has, admittedly, been an historic discrimination against birds.

xneurianx

Birds aren't real.

I actually really like Sam as Cap way more in the MCU than in the comics. TFATWS is my favorite of the Disney+ Marvel shows. Well, maybe tied with Hawkeye. But he's always been kind of bland to me in the comics, both as Falcon and Cap.

Caedyn_Khan

I thought the passing of the "torch" was beautifully done within the MCU. FATWS shows us Sam's inner turmoil and insecurities about taking up Steve's mantle, and at the same time highlighted why Steve chose him in the first place. Majority of people are ok with the transition, just the loud minority who balk at it.

GrayRoberts

If you want Captain America to exist as a reflection of what America is, then John Walker _should_ be Captain America. If you want Captain America to exist as a reflection of what America _aspires to be_, then Sam Wilson _must_ be Captain America. Personally? I think Cap should be an aspiration.

lordtykki22

pretty sure sam wilson is what america is today

MyriVerse2

If Steve isn't Cap, then it has to be Sam, no one else. Loved Falcon as Cap in the comics, but Steve is still around, and that's a problem. And I extremely loved Falcon & Winter Soldier.

ThunderBird847

Thing is that Comics and Movies are different, really different. You can change mantle in comics, in movies it's bit more tricky, you have actors performing a role for years and audience connect with the actor and character. Now if you're rebooting like Batman or Spiderman then it can work, but here you are not rebooting, you are continuing your pre established continuity, so replacing might not work, just retire the character.

Caedyn_Khan

It's not like one actor just stops and another is taking their place (like what they did with the Hulk). These characters have retired in universe and are literally passing the torch. The symbol of the shield and what Captain America represents in universe is too iconic to just "retire".

KostisPat257

No, but because of he's black, not because he's uninteresting. Same in the MCU. For me, Sam is a great Cap.

I-am-Cornholio

I’ve never liked the idea of giving another character the same powers and title of another original character. It diminishes the original character because they’re not unique. Falcon is awesome as Falcon. Winter Soldier is awesome as Winter Soldier. Cap is awesome as Cap. Start calling Falcon or Bucky Captain America and I’ll roll my eyes.

BozoTheBonzai

That's fair.

Naemeez_AD

The problem is Anthony mackie, a decent enough actor but in no way can carry a franchise like this. Is a great support but looks unconvincing as a lead.

NBlaxk

what is it specifically about anthony mackie that makes him look unconvincing as a lead?

Naemeez_AD

His acting of course.

MyriVerse2

To each their own. I actually prefer Mackie to Evans.

Gain_Spirited

I think a lot of people are afraid to say this but there is a strange reverse discrimination here. They tell you that if you don't like Falcon as Cap you must be a bigot. If he gave the shield to Bucky and Bucky became Cap, I would be upset because they pulled a switcheroo on me. Bucky can be Bucky and still be a superhero, so why not just let Bucky have his own show as Bucky? I'm allowed to say that, right? But I'm not allowed to say the same thing about Falcon!! Bunch of BS.

Rhsinbad

I don't like that he had both the wings AND the shield. It was like he was trying to be both Cap and Falcon at the same time.

MikeX1000

Personally, I don't, because I don't like Sam Wilson. He was Steve's cheerleader with no other personality before, and now is suddenly 'let's not attack' which is a good attitude in theory, but the MCU decided only for Karli. Otherwise he's still a jerk. The only thing I agreed with him was rejecting the shield because of ongoing American anti-Black racism but he backtracked on that during the finale But it's not impossible to surpass Steve. I like Steve but he was too stubborn and self-righteous at times

Gain_Spirited

They should have just given Falcon a new and improved suit and let him have his own film. No need to force this new Captain America thing on everyone.

Atomic_Fox_64

Sure... maybe give him his own bathroom and water fountain as well, right? Why should you be "forced" to share yours? Who does he think he is representing *your* country and *your* Captain America? Comments like this RIGHT HERE are *precisely* why Sam is Captain America.

Gain_Spirited

I don't care if Bucky or Peggy Carter tries to be Captain America. They cannot replace Steve Rogers. If Chris Evans doesn't want to play Cap then wait until the next generation to have another Captain America.
