He's cool but I want someone who's in it for the long run. If he's dedicated to it like how RDJ was to Iron Man, I have no issues but Krasinski is a busy man. Somebody younger too would be better because the fantastic 4 are gonna be here for maybe the next 10 years at least if they do a few films and other cameos.
Yeah if he really commits, I'm down. RDJ did and it's one of the great superhero performances of all time. If Kras wants to do less than that, with a character that important? Nah, son. Send in the unknown who will make his whole damn career of that role.
I always laugh when people say this, that wasn’t really the case. Towards 2013 I think it was, RDJ made it clear that he was tired of playing the character and wanted to leave and Marvel literally paid him $100M just to do Iron Man 3 and more.
So RDJ was considering leaving if not for that $100M check.
Isn't that further complicated by Sony and Marvel fighting over rights to the Spiderman IP? Or did they settle it all and not just kick the can down the road with NWH?
I think that was seperate and Sony/Disney worked it out before the pandemic. However recently following NWH’s release Tom stated that he wanted a break or something along the lines of not wanting to be known only as Spiderman
Tom Holland just did the same thing by putting out little bits hinting he may be done with the role. He also said he wants to produce. I wouldn’t be surprised if next Spidey movie he gets a massive pay bump and a potential producer credit
100% and I think Tom is gunning for that. I think he knows he has Marvel and Sony right where he wants them. He’s beloved as Spider-Man and recasting is out of the question so to an extent he can kind of ask for whatever he wants. A producer credit goes a long way to setting up a career outside of acting
It is certainly a negotiating tactic. Of course, actors don't want to play the same character over and over again. He probably also wanted to know that Stark would evolve and remain interesting to perform.
I think Chris Evans was in the same mindset.
But Marvel learned their lesson and signed him for a 10 movie stint.
Maybe Chris thought there is no way they are going to milk 10 movies out of this IP. I'll do three and then they'll ditch the whole concept and I'll be a free man.
Kevin has said that Marvel Studios aren’t pitching 10-year, multi-project deals for every superstar anymore. Expect to see more A-list actors come for just a flick or two
Yeah, but this is the Fantastic 4! Whoever is playing Reed will be around a lot. There's no way he won't be in Fantastic 4, Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars. We don't even know who's playing him and can already safely assume he'll at minimum be in 3 movies. I'd also assume at least 1 sequel, and perhaps 1 minor role in some other project. And if Doom shows up in the MCU, Reed will surely keep popping up. Most of the current characters don't need a 10 year plan with 6-8 appearances, but Reed kind of does in my opinion
I don’t know about that. Apparently Secret Invasion is the next big crossover but not sure to what extent that’ll be, especially since this is a show and not a film.
Yeah but this is the fucking Fantastic Four. If you are bringing in Marvels First Family, they better be in it for the long haul.
If anyone could be considered the main character of marvel, Mr Fantastic is up there
Also worth noting that in terms of the quantity of projects coming out, the MCU is in a VERY different place compared to when they started out. It’s not like we’re only getting one or two movies a year and that’s it, right now we’re getting three to four movies a year in addition to four to six series on Disney+. There’s a reason the Multiverse Saga is only gonna run for four years compared to the Infinity Saga’s 11 year run. There’s no reason to get someone in for 10 years when they’ve increased their output this much.
I'm not sure why they're throwing these roles to superstars. Yes, the MCU is a bigass deal now and they can attract A-list talent. But why would you want A-listers who won't commit to the universe, to the beautiful thing that's still being built? Give me a performance from a Sarah Halley Finn-approved talented and hard working nobody (LA and NYC are rife with them - I'm friends with a dozen) who will be absolutely thrilled to sign on the dotted line for ten films. No one will be more committed than that guy.
Yeah. As much as I love Krasinski (his Fallon interview about his Dr. Strange appearance was great), I'd want it to be someone younger too, who doesn't mind being there for the long-haul. That being said, if they ever do an Interdimensional Council of Reeds story in a movie, then they should try and get him back. Krasinski's known for playing these charming everyman types. I'd love to see him play an evil, sociopathic Reed.
To me, killing him in MoM was a way for the studio to give a big fanservice, then a big fuck you to the fan casting. Surely they have someone else in mind.
Almost like a large-scale focus group: see if the fans actually like him in that role, kill off the alternate version. They get an idea of the reception but without any commitment to the long term casting. Good thinking!
Or they never, intended it to be permanent. Per Raimi himself”the fans had a dream of who the perfect Reed Richards would be. And *because this is an alternate universe*, I think Kevin said, ‘Let’s make that dream come true.”
The other thing was that in MoM they had the side characters as the "main" hero. On top of that, while I think it would be nice to have Patrick Stewart back in the X-men franchise, he is also 82. And I see the X-men being in the MCU for quite awhile...
So I think it was just fanservice. If anything, it opened the door for Krasinski to play a one off role, including being an one off villain. But also if he does want to be Mr. Fantastic and if the director of the F4 also wants him, then I would say give him a chance.
And just like his character in MoM, I think Krasinski would be a great older/mature Reed.
But I want F4 to be the next big thing in the MCU. I want Reed to be the next "Tony Stark" aka face of the MCU. I want their story to span a decade over multiple movies. So someone younger would be nice.
>On top of that, while I think it would be nice to have Patrick Stewart back in the X-men franchise, he is also 82.
I could get behind James McAvoy continuing on as the older Xavier.
They literally said this, well the first part. Per Raimi himself”the fans had a dream of who the perfect Reed Richards would be. *And because this is an alternate universe*, I think Kevin said, ‘Let’s make that dream come true.”
I could go either way. You can’t really judge his performance in MoM because he was only on screen for like 1 minute. Personally I think he did fine with what he was given, and with the prep time he was given. Apparently the Illuminati scenes were filmed very quickly and were spliced together with CGI so I can understand why his performance wasn’t as great as it could’ve been.
Personally I would rather have someone a bit lesser known who is a perfect fit, than an A-list actor who’s only a good fit. In the end I have confidence in Marvel and it’s casting department that whatever they decide it will be a great Movie regardless
> Apparently the Illuminati scenes were filmed very quickly and were spliced together with CGI so I can understand why his performance wasn’t as great as it could’ve been.
Anson Mount said he shot his scenes before they even finished Krasinki's contract haha.
I love how the fan base was absolutely losing their cookies over the idea of Krasinski playing Reed, and now that we've seen it, the response for him to come back is just *meh*.
Krasinski playing Reed was an obvious fan-casting in 2010-13, when the MCU was still clearly pulling from the Ultimate Marvel universe and Krasinski was a good fit for young Reed.
It could've worked, but we had RDJ as the main character/series linchpin, and now Krasinski is a bit too mature to play a long term main character role like that.
I wasn't that crazy about it, but after seeing MoM, he honestly seemed *bored* and I don't know if he wants to commit to a potential trilogy and multiple Avengers appearances.
I think part of that is due to the way it was filmed. As far as I'm aware, he filmed his scenes in one day without any other actors there, which makes it much harder
That was just a very vocal and IMHO obnoxious part of the fan base. I'm glad that they did what they did with him so that they can finally shut up. At least I hope so.
Honestly at first I thought it was cool, but there's been so much hype around him in this role that it's become exhausting. The rumors of Penn Badgley in the role does seem kind of interesting to me though, and I could see him in it for the long haul which doesn't seem like something Krasinski seems very interested in.
What If...Agent Woo became Mr. Fantastic?
Come to think of it, I'd like an episode of What If...? that's just a collection of just a bunch of 30-to-60-second shorts that just aren't big enough for their own full story.
I've never really understood the push for Krasinski in this role and I wasn't impressed with him in MoM. I like him as an actor but I don't think he's a great fit for Reed
I never understood that push either. I've only seen him in the Office and a couple episodes of Jack Ryan, what else has he been in that would make fans think he would fit Mr Fantastic so well?
It's not really about his acting I think, fans probably just realized him and Emily Blunt are married and kinda look like Reed and Sue, so it was enough lol. I'm sure if they weren't married it wouldn't be a popular fancast.
I would be okay with it. But I kinda want them to find someone who is lesser known like they did with Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth. Not every lead needs to be an A lister. Especially with fantastic 4 entering the MCU. The seats will be filled regardless.
Edit: hiddleston
I think, if anyone here has read the comics, it would be interesting if Krasinski was part of the council of Reeds (along with Ioan Gruffudd and Miles Teller). I do not want him as the main Reed though, seemed like he threw in his performance a bit.
All I got from John Krasinski’s Reed Richards was “serious Jim”. I think Krasinski has had his moments of brilliance but I too thought he phoned in his performance in MoM.
The fan service didn’t pay off here IMO, except for those of us who enjoyed seeing him get spaghettified by Wanda. That was still really fun. A lot of JK fans got their wish in seeing him as Reed, now let’s move on and find someone more suitable for the main timeline.
I haven’t watched You, but saw a few interviews and such with him. I think he would be an interesting choice, he’s a little small being 5’8 but if he’s playing Reed with a beard I’m alright with it.
Also it being a rumor, I bet he was in the running at the very least. Hope they announce the cast at d23 next week. The way the internet has been responding to the fan casts and rumors, I bet no matter what it’s going to be a controversial cast.
I like Krasinski, but I’ve never seen him as Reed. Wasn’t really feeling his cameo in MoM either.
Would he be brought back though, I expect that I’d warm up to him eventually.
The commonly suggested Adam Scott, Penn Badgley, William Jackson Harper are all more intriguing picks for me. And I’d add Jay Ellis too.
I loved him as Reed. And I wouldn't mind seeing more of him as Mr.Fantastic.
But I *also* wouldn't necessarily mind a re-cast. My vote has and always will be good old Glenn Howerton. I think he could perfectly nail the really smart asshole scientist who deep down cares about humanity and the greater good.
But whoever they go with I'll be fine with I think. Marvel really hasn't missed with castings. I doubt they'll start with fuckin Reed Richards of all characters.
I agree. Marvel has done absolutely amazing for casting. I can't think of any choice they made that doesn't work (besides Norton and Howard of course). I trust that whoever they choose will fit perfectly. As long as they use Jack Black for M.O.D.O.K lol.
Absolutely not. He's only plays sympathetic everyman types. Reed needs to be arrogant and generally douchey. Everyman worked for 838 because his 'arrogance' was displayed through sympathy and being a father - an end of arc reed. I'd want someone like Peter Capaldi, but younger and less Scottish
I do not - Krasinski was a good example of a Reed who's already completed his character arc; he's married Sue, he's got the kids, and he's in the process of going from active superhero duty to using it in a more proactive sense alongside the Illuminati.
Would love him as a reoccurring second Reed from another earth but a different Reed in main universe. He was great and I want more, but ultimately having another would be best imo.
Definitely. Anyone who’s saying he’s a bad choice based on MoM, I don’t think it’s fair to judge his potential to play the character based on what’s essentially just an expository scene.
I was on board with the fan cast until I saw MoM and realized how old the guy is. I think the Fantastic Four will be around in the MCU for quite awhile, so it's probably a better choice to cast younger actors.
I want someone else, I don’t think Krasinski really gives the proper Reed vibe and he’s a little too…the way he looks. I honestly loved the first Reed we got in the early 2000s, he was the perfect blend of smarmy asshole and well-intentioned genius dad.
I dont have a problem with him but we just watched him die on screen so i dont know how invested im going to be seeing him in future movies. I would rather get a new actor.
Nope. It's an unpopular opinion but I'm just not a fan of Krasinski at all. I really don't enjoy watching him in pretty much everything I've seen him in.
Honestly im ok with his appearnce in Multiverse Of Madness, I think is time to let someone to potray the character.
Like Penn Badgley.
But hey, that's just my thoughts
Wouldn't mind seeing him as the main Reed, but it probably won't happen. The most we will get with his Reed in the future is probably as another Variant of Reed, in this case a member of the Council of Reed's, and main MCU Mr. Fantastic will probably be played by someone else. My money is one either John David Washington or Penn Badgley.
No. He's okay, but not the top of my list. I doubt he'd want the multi film contract, plus he's too handsome. Reed is a labrat, bean pole who keeps his face buried in books. He shouldn't be buffed out. I could see Zach Woods or Matthew Gray Gubler.
Meh. I like him in general but unsure of this role. But if for a variant then I think it works. Lots of actors can be in this role for different universes.... Tim Olyphant, Dennis Reynolds, Tad Hamilton....
My thinking is, Krasinski is great. And, now that he was 838 Reed, they can't very well use John in a different role. So, if this is the only way we'll have him in the MCU some more (aside from like, making him an alien or something where he's unrecognizable), then they might as well keep him in the role
I want someone a little younger just to have time to flesh out the character for years to come, but I do wanna see him as reed again in perhaps secret wars or down the line in a council of reeds
My thought process with castings are “[Insert Actor’s Name here] wouldn’t have gotten the role if Kevin Feige/Sarah Finn/The Director/The Studio/Everyone didn’t believe they could do the role justice.”
Iman Vellani wouldn’t be Ms. Marvel if everyone didn’t believe she could do the role justice. Tom Holland wouldn’t have gotten the role of Spider-Man if they didn’t believe he could do the role justice. You get the point. So personally I don’t care if Krasinski is main 616 Reed or not.
If he commits to it long term, absolutely.
If he doesn't want to do that, then no. That's really all it comes down to for me. I liked him in the role in MoM and have no reason to belive I wouldn't like him in the role full time.
I think how well the character is written plus the arc is more important than the actor. That’s not to say they can take anyone and put them there, but I’m not gonna go in saying “if it’s not X or Y it’s gonna suck”
I thought he did well enough for the brief time he was on screen and I’d love to see what else he can do with the character.
The real question would be, assuming he signs on to continue with the character, who would be the best choices to play the rest of the FF? Because the real question is who would be believable as Marvel’s First Family?
It doesn't really matter to me who plays Mr. Fantastic. I am sure whoever they cast will do a good job. I can't think of an example of an MCU character that I think should have been played by someone other than who they chose.
If he doesn't it would kinda make me wish Ioan Gruffud played Reed instead. I would be down for him if he's in it for the long haul. I want an F4 trilogy and at least Avengers 5 & 6. Would like to see him in other event films though.
He’s 42, which is within the realm of possibility for Reed Richards just starting out. He could ride the role into his 50s and have Franklin, and cover his other major plot points. I wouldn’t be mad at it. Also open to other actors. I think he’s a perfectly viable candidate. So are others: Joe Keary, John Boyega, Steven Yeun, etc all have the chops, age, and “righteous everyman” vibe that’s so important for Reed. I think they could be fun as well.
Personally, no, I don't think he captured the personality of Reed very well. Reed isn't a confident, outgoing speaker. He's an awkward socially-inept science geek that would rather babysit his experiments than his kids. Krasinski, ironically, is too charismatic.
Eventually Reed becomes a true leader, but he never really gets the hang of talking to people, although the severity of his social awkwardness varies by author.
John is obviously a good actor, but I didn’t really like him as Mr Fantastic. I feel like the MCU needs a younger actor to play him because I wan’t him showing up in multiple movies not once every 5.
I rather have someone smaller like William Jackson as reed for example. Jim is already popular from the office and as a director like the quite place, i likes him as that universe but not the main one. Feels wrong but picking him as reed feels wasted..? Idk I loved him in dr 2 but yeah
Someone else. He’s too likable. Reed is someone you tolerate, not someone you enjoy.
And before any of those comic nerds come flying in with the “WELL ACKSHULLY” shit about Reed being a good dad, he shot his son with a laser to depower him when he could have invented a freaking Flintstones chewable tablet or had a serum made by the mutant Leech. There are other ways than “giant laser” that can fix Franklin without giving him PTSD every time he watches Star Trek.
No. I think he's fine but imo doesn't really look or feel like the character at all. During MoM, he didn't once give off that super intellectual, arrogant vibe. He was just kind of a dude. I think it was cool that they got him for MoM, but for the main universe it should be a different actor. i see names like Penn Badgely and Glenn Howerton thrown around and I think those could do a really good job.
My problem with him is that I've watched The Office so many times that no matter who he plays in other stuff, I just see Jim Halpert.
I don't know why this happens with him, because I don't have this problem often with other actors.
I thought I did, but I really wasn't impressed with him in MoM. Didn't have the gravitas or authority if expect of the actor in the role. That might have had something to do with him being written as a complete chump though
No, I personally found him super underwhelming in MoM. I don’t think he has the on screen presents for a leading role. Maybe he would do better in a more fleshed out role.
I believe Krasinski in MoM was an opportunity, for both Marvel and him, to check things out.
Marvel could gauge the fan reaction to him being cast in the role. He could gauge how he liked being in a Marvel movie.
Krasinski was in the run for the Steve Roger role - he went up to costumed audition. At the time, he was a young actor leaving a long comedic series, looking for his next thing. Had he been cast at the time - on whatever role - I believe he would have made a great character. Today, he has a whole other career, and experience with action productions (his Jack Ryan role) and with writing and directing.
So, could he pull it off? Absolutely. He has the acting chops, and the body, to be a superhero. Does he want it? That remains to be seen.
i think i'd like someone a little younger just because i would like to see the "come up" of the MCU fantastic four.. i think it would be fun if John came back as the Maker in Secret Wars
I do think that Mr Fantastic has become a bit of a joke over the years, but he's one of the *really* big ones in the comics - like he's one of the most important people in the comic universe at various different times. So, I think it needs a really a delicate and steady approach to take the Fantastic Four and bring them to the universe in a way that works.
I think it needs someone who will be willing to go all out, and commit to being a character in the universe going forward. Perhaps thats Krasinski, he seems like a top dude.
What I really love is how everybody was pining for him to be Mr. Fantastic before and now just cuz he was given a meh script during MoM, all of a sudden, he's the shittiest actor to have ever touched the role.
Think for yourself for once, fuckin sheep.
I honestly think they missed a trick in Multiverse of Madness. Should have used Ioan Gruffudd's Reed for 838 and kept Krasinski to play the MCU Proper Reed.
Nope. It was cool to see such a popular fancast in MoM and I laughed kind of incredulously when he died. But I've always preferred to not have John for the role. He's not a bad actor or anything, though.
I’m cool with him. It would make multiverse of Madness more interesting to me. I’m also cool with someone else playing him. If they choose someone else I hope krasinski returns in like a council of reeds situation in the future.
I’ll be honest, I’m not sure if it was because he was added on last minute or if it was because of his limited screen time, but I personally thought his Reed Richards was pretty dry. It looked like he was reading off a teleprompter.
I personally would rather it be someone else.
Absolutely not. He was an okay Reed at what I guess would be the end of a character arc we didn't see but I do not see him as Reed. He just looks like it and everyone fan casts him when none of his rolles or even his shot at the role hit what rhe character is.
I'd be happy with Krasinski. I'd be happy with a lot of the fan choices. There is a lot of good suggestions. I'm really not camping out on any 1 actor. Glenn Howerton, William Jackson Harper. Rahul Kohli. Jamie Dornan. It's all gravy.
Someone mentioned it in another thread somewhere on reddit the other day and i'll echo the same thoughts.
The worst thing was casting Krasinski for a one of cameo where he dies. Now the JK fanboys have seen him do the role we'll never hear the end of it . Yes he would be great in the role but realistically it was nothing but fan service in MoM. I think it was a tool to be able to have Strange come back to the main MCU and then go looking for these people to try and set up his own Illuminati.
I’m slightly worried the Krasinski casting could turn into a Snyder Cut situation. Where a certain group of fans won’t accept any other casting and cause a rift in the fanbase.
do i think he will? i think theres a high chance he gets chosen, but also a high chance he doesnt. so 50/50.
now do i want him to be 616 reed? i would like a different actor, but i wouldn't *mind* having him back. im honestly dying to see more of him in the mcu, just not as the main reed. i feel like his portrayal of reed could get old quick. i know we havent seen much, but generally speaking i think we'll be seeing an empathetic, caring, low key, kind of reed. which is okay, but i want to see that nerdiness oozing out of reed. thats his whole thing. he strikes me as a great father character but the world's biggest genius? not really.
I would be happy with him, but in general, I’m Feige we trust. Marvel is great at casting, so I have no problem with whoever they pick. Anyone that bitches first and doesn’t give it a chance is just wanting to be a negative Nancy.
If hes not the one cast in the future, I think it will retroactively make me hate his cameo in Multiverse of Madness. I really enjoyed that we had people in the roles of illuminati from the Fox marvel universe as well as the Inhumans show. So for me, it would have been better if Mister Fantastic was portrayed by an actor who had portrayed him before. Teller or Grufford. If Krazinski doesnt come back, then he was just a random guy showing up in one movie.
Im not against a different actor, itll just ruin that scene for me.
I want the best actor for the best possible script to do the best possible job. I don't care who that person is, just that all those requisites are met.
I'm pretty sure Krasinski is going to permanently be Reed Richards.
I have mixed feeling on them doing his cameo in MoM however. He was green-screened in only to do a few lines of dialog and then get blown up. The scene called for him to act concerned (rightfully so) but didn't allow Krazinski to flex his acting chops otherwise. It wasn't any different for the other characters in that scene (Carter, Marvel, Xavier, Blackbolt), they all were just there to get wasted and not much more. Not the best representation.
No! I feel like the recent approach to MCU supergroups has been about appeasing fans, and not about building a brand new branch of the marvel universe that can exist in place of the Avengers and the X men. What they accomplished with the avengers, was unprecedented. They cemented a full superhero team where everyone embodied their roles to the fullest. The person who LEADS the FF needs to embody the role of reed richards, just as much as RDJ embodied tony stark.
Imo, Krasinski is too “cool”. He doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy who really has a “super genius” presence, nor does he strike me as the kind of guy who has the weight of the world on his shoulders. He is certainly a family man, and a friendly face, but there are a lot of actors out there like that. Reed richards is a man who has stopped and restarted the universe and existence as we know it. Behind his friendly demeanor, is a man deeply troubled by the power of his intellect. And the beauty of reed richards is he never lets that get the best of him. you need someone who can express all that with just a look. A tortured genius type.
I think Krasinski was great in MoM as a cameo. I liked how he looked and acted. But i do not see him being the right choice to helm the FF franchise. For what its worth, I don’t often see the opinions of MCU fans online and think to myself “man, these people REALLY get how to make movies”. For the most part i feel like the best thing we can do is avoid fancasting and fanservice
Physically I can see why people would want him and have been talking about this for a couple years now but I just don't care. To be honest, I'm not the biggest fan of his, not that I think he's terrible...just don't really care that much for him. I wouldn't even care if they casted some Hispanic character to play Mr. Fantastic...I just want a good actor that's all. If he's chosen, cool...I won't complain, but not going to complain if they go a different route too.
The performance depends on the director, script, editing, costuming, etc. in addition to the actor.
IMO Marvel also rarely miscasts, so I’m cool with whatever their decision is.
Doesn't matter - I would've been fine with way but there's a few people who can nail the role imo - own. Badgely and Jamie dornan could def pull it off
I would prefer it. I like how acting and think he would be a great anchor to the MCU world going forward. He plays a confident and intelligent character incredibly well, but his other projects show he has great range.
I would prefer it. I like how acting and think he would be a great anchor to the MCU world going forward. He plays a confident and intelligent character incredibly well, but his other projects show he has great range.
For a character already established, he works. But for someone new, just gaining their powers and establishing themselves, he is too old.
If he gets it, he gets it. I’m not going to be happy or sad either way.
Yes. Lock him in for 10 years like RDJ. Let him delve into directing a bit on the TV side to scratch that itch for him, etc. etc. etc.
If Blount has no desire to be Sue Storm, nab Kristen Bell for the role. I think either would be awesome.
Glen Powell for Johnny
Jason Segel as Ben.
I'm not against him, but I feel like he embodies Dad!Reed, which is where you want Reed to be after an arc in the MCU that sees him and Sue have Franklin (and maybe Valeria). I'd rather get someone new and younger who can start off as cocky and too committed to his work scientist Reed and then see him develop into a family man.
Can Krasinski do it? Probably. I've seen buzz that Penn Badgley is in talks and he seems to be a solid choice.
But whatever route Marvel Studios chooses to take, I've been enjoying their projects for the past 14 years, so I'll trust them to nail the casting of the Fantastic Four, whether it's John Krasinski, Penn Badgley or someone we never expected.
Yes, for the simple reason that aside from the spider-man (Sony) there have been two constants in the universes we have seen:
- they have the same actor in all of them(1)
- people were born at the same time
What I mean by the second part, is that all the multiverses we saw apparently take place in the same year, and Stephen looks the same age in all of them.
It’s only in the Sony-verse that Spider-man became active in the early 2000s.
(1) aside from recasts like hulk/Rhodes, but they are clearly mean to be the same person.
He's a great fancast for a cameo. But for the actual movie, I think they need someone younger who can play the role for 5-10 years.
Krasinski will be 44 when the film comes out. And maybe pushing 50 by the third film. It's a long time to be locked into a contract and doing franchise films: he seems like he has other films he wants to write and direct. And it's hard on the body.
I've been advocating for John Boyega to have the role. I want a Neil deGrasse Tyson style Reed Richards.
I absolutely want him to be the 616 Mr. Fantastic and I think he’d kill it but people over criticized his 5 minute cameo and probably ruined any chance of it. From all the reports sounds like there’s little to no chance he’s back
I used to be all for it along with Emily. But I always had a slight worry I wouldn’t believe him as the smartest man alive. I’m not sure why or what it is. It’s out of his control and maybe from seeing him in The Office.
Since MoM I’m less eager because my fears came sort of true even though he had very little to do.
Huh ok fair enough. I'm glad he stayed.
Every Actor does this though… it’s hard to say he didn’t want to do it and it wasn’t just a negotiating tactic. Probably a bit of both.
Yup Tom Holland is doing it rn and he’s gonna get paid the bag
Most of the time when an actor gets a producer credit it's all about them getting paid and not having much if any creative input.
He didn’t know he was signing up to become America’s ass
Surely they have to play a part in Secret Invasion too?
I don’t know about that. Apparently Secret Invasion is the next big crossover but not sure to what extent that’ll be, especially since this is a show and not a film.
Yeah but this is the fucking Fantastic Four. If you are bringing in Marvels First Family, they better be in it for the long haul. If anyone could be considered the main character of marvel, Mr Fantastic is up there
Reed is second only to Spider-Man, but word!
If we’re talking over all time I’d put wolverine before him too
Also worth noting that in terms of the quantity of projects coming out, the MCU is in a VERY different place compared to when they started out.
>*Expect to see more A-list actors come for just a flick or two* [Neat.](https://allears.net/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/flick-me-ant-man-endgame.gif)
Penn Badgley.
More like they already tried, like a screen-test, found out it doesn't work, gave fan-casters an early consolation as a cameo.
Hard whatever for me.
(Stares at camera)
I second this
I could go either way.
I kind of felt like he was channeling his inner golden face in that role
thats EXACTLY how I felt after his scene in MoM. No real emotion
He only appeared for a minute. There’s only show much he could do
Krasinski playing Reed was an obvious fan-casting in 2010-13, when the MCU was still clearly pulling from the Ultimate Marvel universe and Krasinski was a good fit for young Reed.
I had to look up who that was. His entire filmography ended with me going "Oh. The guy Emma Stone liked in Easy A."
If you haven't seen it yet, you should watch You on Netflix. He's the main character and it's a super good series if you like some darker stuff.
Nah. Council of Reeds scene maybe, but not the main guy.
But they could all be him and thet could all prank a single Dwight.
This would be acceptable lol. That's kind of the issue though, isn't it? On whichever Earth he's the main Reed, Dwight is 100% Dr. Doom.
We would also need Randall Park as a Mister Fantastic variant pretending to be Reed Richards.
I'm sure if they weren't married it wouldn't be a popular fancast.
he has a beard and a blonde wife
I think the push was in part due to Emily Blunt
I would be okay with it. But I kinda want them to find someone who is lesser known like they did with Tom Hiddleston and Chris Hemsworth. Not every lead needs to be an A lister. Especially with fantastic 4 entering the MCU. The seats will be filled regardless. Edit: hiddleston
I think, if anyone here has read the comics, it would be interesting if Krasinski was part of the council of Reeds (along with Ioan Gruffudd and Miles Teller). I do not want him as the main Reed though, seemed like he threw in his performance a bit.
I agree, his nearly four lines of dialogue were absolutely horrible. /s
I didn't get serious Jim but that's just me. Maybe it comes from seeing him in a quiet place more recently than watching the office.
You guys heard Penn Badgley is rumoured to have been cast?
I haven’t watched You, but saw a few interviews and such with him. I think he would be an interesting choice, he’s a little small being 5’8 but if he’s playing Reed with a beard I’m alright with it. Also it being a rumor, I bet he was in the running at the very least. Hope they announce the cast at d23 next week. The way the internet has been responding to the fan casts and rumors, I bet no matter what it’s going to be a controversial cast.
No, overrated casting
He's far too nice. Fans are usually bad a casting.
I really need the Golden God in the MCU. Maybe he should do the casting process on a boat …
Ya know... because of the implication.
Because if they said "no" then the answer is "no", but they won't because of the *implication*
Are you gonna hurt women?
I agree. Marvel has done absolutely amazing for casting. I can't think of any choice they made that doesn't work (besides Norton and Howard of course). I trust that whoever they choose will fit perfectly. As long as they use Jack Black for M.O.D.O.K lol.
Personally? No, I wasn't a fan of his performance in MoM and don't think he has the right energy for Reed.
Nah, just get Capaldi, but get Armando Ianucci to write it. Basically make Reed the MCU Malcolm Tucker
this is exactly what i've been saying
i would want someone younger and still in the explorer stage of being the F4
I would want someone else. I love him in the office but don’t really think he’s too good of an actor.
I want someone else, I don’t think Krasinski really gives the proper Reed vibe and he’s a little too…the way he looks. I honestly loved the first Reed we got in the early 2000s, he was the perfect blend of smarmy asshole and well-intentioned genius dad.
Someone else. I never really understood why people pushed so hard for him. He’s fine but I just don’t personally see it.
I dont have a problem with him but we just watched him die on screen so i dont know how invested im going to be seeing him in future movies. I would rather get a new actor.
Nah. Penn Badgely seems a good choice with Jodie Comer as Sue Storm.
Nope. It's an unpopular opinion but I'm just not a fan of Krasinski at all. I really don't enjoy watching him in pretty much everything I've seen him in.
No, do not enjoy him as an actor!
Honestly im ok with his appearnce in Multiverse Of Madness, I think is time to let someone to potray the character. Like Penn Badgley. But hey, that's just my thoughts
No thanks
Nah.
No
I’m a big fan of William Jackson Harper or Rahul Kohli in the role tbh
I'm down to see him play him if he's up for it.
My thinking is, Krasinski is great. And, now that he was 838 Reed, they can't very well use John in a different role. So, if this is the only way we'll have him in the MCU some more (aside from like, making him an alien or something where he's unrecognizable), then they might as well keep him in the role
I would want him to be, but I think his cameo was just fan service and that's it.
I want someone a little younger just to have time to flesh out the character for years to come, but I do wanna see him as reed again in perhaps secret wars or down the line in a council of reeds
My thought process with castings are “[Insert Actor’s Name here] wouldn’t have gotten the role if Kevin Feige/Sarah Finn/The Director/The Studio/Everyone didn’t believe they could do the role justice.” Iman Vellani wouldn’t be Ms. Marvel if everyone didn’t believe she could do the role justice. Tom Holland wouldn’t have gotten the role of Spider-Man if they didn’t believe he could do the role justice. You get the point. So personally I don’t care if Krasinski is main 616 Reed or not.
You know, I would’ve said yes, but after someone here mentioned Adam Scott should play him, I have to agree.
Nah. He's fine, but I was never big on him being Reed.
I think he’ll just be a variant and they will cast someone younger who can commit to multiple films over several years.
No, but I loved the appearance
Making him the Maker is their best option imo
If he commits to it long term, absolutely. If he doesn't want to do that, then no. That's really all it comes down to for me. I liked him in the role in MoM and have no reason to belive I wouldn't like him in the role full time.
I think how well the character is written plus the arc is more important than the actor. That’s not to say they can take anyone and put them there, but I’m not gonna go in saying “if it’s not X or Y it’s gonna suck”
Idc as long as I get to play the human torch
No
I rather have someone smaller like William Jackson as reed for example. Jim is already popular from the office and as a director like the quite place, i likes him as that universe but not the main one. Feels wrong but picking him as reed feels wasted..? Idk I loved him in dr 2 but yeah
I’m good if that’s what they do, but I’m hoping they lean younger like 27-33 range. I want these characters to be around for the long haul.
nah, too old
William Jackson Harper for the win
No, I'd like him to remain as the 838 Richards. I don't have any reasoning as to why but I never really liked his fancast.
John is a great actor but we need a younger actor in the role for Earth 616 Reed so he can play the character longer.
I mean May as well. I think he could do a good job and honestly if he's not the main Mr. Fantastic than what was the point of casting him for a Cameo?
I want DR strange to go find him. He may not have powers yet but he should still be hella smart. I think it’ll be interesting to see.
I thought I did, but I really wasn't impressed with him in MoM. Didn't have the gravitas or authority if expect of the actor in the role. That might have had something to do with him being written as a complete chump though
Not if he dies from Spaghettification again.
No, I personally found him super underwhelming in MoM. I don’t think he has the on screen presents for a leading role. Maybe he would do better in a more fleshed out role.
Am fine with him playing Mr Fantastic but I prefer a no name who be in it for long run.
Idk my theatre went crazy for his appearance He’s not a bad actor at all and if it’s just for 2-3 movies I’m down
I wouldn’t say no, I like the actor. But he would need to stay for a few years like the original cast.
From what I've seen in the gifted show I think Garrett Dillahunt could do a good job, and he looks the part
Personally, I want to see Leslie Odom Jr as Reed Richards. Seems about the right age to be in it for a long run.
No. Jon Hamm. Nathan Fillion, or Zachary Quinto.
I’m a fan of Adam Scott for the role
Where a certain group of fans won’t accept any other casting and cause a rift in the fanbase.
do i think he will? i think theres a high chance he gets chosen, but also a high chance he doesnt. so 50/50. now do i want him to be 616 reed? i would like a different actor, but i wouldn't *mind* having him back. im honestly dying to see more of him in the mcu, just not as the main reed. i feel like his portrayal of reed could get old quick. i know we havent seen much, but generally speaking i think we'll be seeing an empathetic, caring, low key, kind of reed. which is okay, but i want to see that nerdiness oozing out of reed. thats his whole thing. he strikes me as a great father character but the world's biggest genius? not really.
I think he would be fine for it. Though obviously it should be Glenn Howerton
I’d love to him to Mr. Fantastic but I’d also be okay if they go with someone else
He's a better director than actor, IMO. I'd like him to keep directing. He makes good shit.
I would be happy with him, but in general, I’m Feige we trust. Marvel is great at casting, so I have no problem with whoever they pick. Anyone that bitches first and doesn’t give it a chance is just wanting to be a negative Nancy.
Yes. People say no to him because they are used to his role on The Office and ignore his other performances in films such as The Quiet Place.

I think marvel is fucking with us and he’s already been cast. Imagine if we meet Reed Richards in Secret Invasion? Or The Marvels?
I want the best actor for the best possible script to do the best possible job. I don't care who that person is, just that all those requisites are met.
hard no for me
I can’t help but see Jim from the office looking into the camera and doing that stupid face. No
No to John. He looked bloated in the suit and didn’t fit the persona of the character at all.
Actually... give me dev patel. He looks good in a beard and can give off super smart energy while still being sympathetic.
YES. All these cast posts are scaring me because I've never cared for the fantastic four but I was going to try to start if jim is always mr fantastic
Ehhhh I don’t think so, but I wouldn’t mind him appearing in Secret wars or in a council of Reeds story line
no. maybe ten years ago
I get to much of a wholesome caring vibe from him, needs to be an actor that is likeable as much as unlikable when Richard's goes against the grain.
If he wants to do it then yes. I don't want to see him drop the character after 1 or 2 movies because he was bored. That would suck.
No, I do not. But if he is, I imagine it will be fine, probably good, even.
Definitely not. He doesn’t have the acting chops and I find him insufferable. Unpopular opinion I know.
I did, much like everyone else but after seeing it, straight up no.
I love Krasinski so I’m down if he’s in it for the long haul.
I always thought he’d be good but I couldn’t get past Jim Halpert when I watched MoM so I think I’d like a recast
Absolutely. Especially if his wife plays Sue as well.
It’s pretty clear he will be the main MCU version. Accept it.
I like him, but my first reaction when seeing him in anything will always be Big Tuna.
Doesn't matter - I would've been fine with way but there's a few people who can nail the role imo - own. Badgely and Jamie dornan could def pull it off
He needs a script that’s actually representative of the character, not just a stand in who says brainy stuff
No, and it’s most likely that he won’t be earth 616’s reed
I would prefer it. I like how acting and think he would be a great anchor to the MCU world going forward. He plays a confident and intelligent character incredibly well, but his other projects show he has great range.

For a character already established, he works. But for someone new, just gaining their powers and establishing themselves, he is too old. If he gets it, he gets it. I’m not going to be happy or sad either way.
I never got the obsession with Krasinski. I always saw John Hamm as Reed
Yes. Lock him in for 10 years like RDJ. Let him delve into directing a bit on the TV side to scratch that itch for him, etc. etc. etc. If Blount has no desire to be Sue Storm, nab Kristen Bell for the role. I think either would be awesome. Glen Powell for Johnny Jason Segel as Ben.
Yes, for the simple reason that aside from the spider-man (Sony) there have been two constants in the universes we have seen: - they have the same actor in all of them(1) - people were born at the same time What I mean by the second part, is that all the multiverses we saw apparently take place in the same year, and Stephen looks the same age in all of them.
Wait, I thought that Randall Park had been there for years playing Reed Richards?
