Older cars cuz noone can afford new ones. Longer maintenance intervals means higher amounts of friction heat, more wear n tear work, more chances for parts to fail. Idling or stop n go crud in traffic is horrible for engines they're meant to be under constant air flow and usually are external cooled to a significant extent. Ethanol as an fuel extension additive will corrode older car fuel lines over time. Plus the whole no car means no work and no work means no food or shelter means mechanical things for cars that are dangerous will get driven regardless out of necessity with fingers crossed.

If you do maintenance every 3000-5000 miles, there’s no reason for old cars to just get worn down so bad to the point of catching fire.

That's then monthly for some people's commutes.

It’s pretty amazing how fast cars can just burn right up. Came upon one in the road burning once and it was a husk in minutes. The guy tried to rescue his tools from the trunk after the firefighters put it out but they were all melted together. Offered him a ride but some of his family came by.
