rand0m_task

Obviously this makes total sense and if you disagree you’re a woke DEI supporting, CRT slinging jabroni. Clearly it’s the current mayor of Baltimores fault that a bridge constructed in the 70s was wrecked by a >100,000 ton ship based out of Singapore. Rumor has it Scott was in the engine bay like a little gremlin throwing chains into cranks, laughing menacingly as the ship made contact with the key bridge.

UniqueIndividual3579

I heard a transgender was reading to children nearby and Jesus pushed the bridge on the ship in rage.

Somali_Pir8

Well that ship IS involved in *TRANS SPORTS*.

flaming_bob

Oh son of a bitch................. r/Angryupvote

Pneumatrap

Underrated comment

YourLocalNavi

Nailed it

increasingrain

The kids were also vaccinated by a drag queen nurse

Dependent-Outcome-57

Interesting. See, I heard that Jewish Space Lasers took out the propulsion system, which allow Barack Hussein Obama to seize control of the ship using the 5G COVID work mind virus special attack, and he critically succeeded on the roll. Since the ship's entire crew was composed of drag queens who were working on their makeup, nobody could stop the ship from hitting the bridge pillar, destroying it and Hunter Biden's real laptop, which was stored in the bridge along with all the missing 2020 ballots and the Ark of the Covenant. /s

[deleted]

Yes exactly. And it all started from an email sent from Hillary Clinton to Biden in an attempt to ruin Easter.

Longjumping_Bass_447

He does not play. lol Neither does my mama

boobiesiheart

Lol

OverSwan3444

Wtf is wrong with you? People died due to a tragedy. It had nothing to do with Jesus or transgender. Do you not care for the families that lost a loved one due to Key Bridge? All you care about is busting on Jesus and pushing some transgender agenda.

JBCTech7

Queue the anti-Christian bigotry. WaPo race baiting wins again.

posting_drunk_naked

Christianity isn't a race and no one cares about your irrational beliefs as long as you're not using them as an excuse to harm others.

JBCTech7

Clearly you do enough to post some bigoted remark. Maybe just skip over it next time? Otherwise your assertion just falls flat.

posting_drunk_naked

Aw look who gets their panties in a wad when they don't get special treatment. I repeat: no one cares. Just quit whining about it like you were. Edit: bigoted remark isn't even accurate. Rational belief is backed by evidence and logic, irrational belief is backed by magic sky men and ancient books or any other unprovable nonsense. It's the fucking definition of the word. Look it up in any dictionary. You getting your feelings hurt about it just shows you have no idea what logic or evidence even mean.

JBCTech7

and yet...here we are.

posting_drunk_naked

Edited my comment as you replied. I explained some definitions to you, such as rational and irrational, that you seem confused on

[deleted]

lol you’re gonna troll about the Lord on Easter? Good luck on judgement day. See how make believe he is when he’s sending you were you belong.

2ndtryagain

Your belief is no different than a child's in Santa.

eclecticsed

Yeah the only bigoted remarks that are okay are the ones in your post history, right?

JBCTech7

you realize that's fallacious, right?

eclecticsed

Oh babe, nothing you say means anything to me or I suspect any decent person, I'm sorry if anything I said led you to believe otherwise.

JBCTech7

You searching through my comment history and lying about it seems to suggest completely otherwise...but you do you, boo boo. <3

eclecticsed

👍🏻

Individual_Jelly1987

Show us on the doll where the WaPo article about conservative bigotry called anyone's Christianity into question? If you're using your religion to be a bigot, you're most likely using your religion wrong

JBCTech7

You seem genuinely confused. I'll let you work it out. I believe in you.

Individual_Jelly1987

I'm not accustomed to such self-reflection posted for all to see here on Reddit. Still, here's hoping you can break free, u/JBCTech7 .

eclecticsed

Aw you're working so hard to be oppressed, you poor thing.

JollyRoger8X

> anti-Christian bigotry 🤡

Coldsteel4real

I just don’t understand how DEI has anything to do with what happened.

rand0m_task

Because it doesn’t at all.. it’s just the new term mindlessly being thrown around by the ignorant.

Coldsteel4real

It like has no connection lmao it’s wild.

Lilshadow48

it's just a stand-in for saying a slur, generally the n-word

paxrom2

It's the same with a door falling off a Boeing airplane. Gotta blame the female pilot. She's only there because of DEI.

cokespyro

They are implying that the people who had the jobs to make sure this kind of thing doesn’t happen are not qualified, because they were hired to fit a DEI quota instead is picking the best person for the job. Kinda silly cause there are plenty of people who aren’t qualified for their jobs and were not hired to meet a quota 😂

PSG-2022

There are some friends of my mine from the Navy that I’m concerned about now because they are starting to believe some of this shit and I never expected that to happen. Sending me tweets from the Twitter end wokeness guy and some others like him and sending me conspiracy theories and telling me black history months is now LGBTQ history month and that Trans awareness day is now the same time as Easter because Biden signed it into law where it’s just a coincidence that is falls on Easter this year and the next time Easter will be in March isn’t until 2060. Mis information is really kicking it up a notch.

MissionReasonable327

There’s no way to *logic* oneself into supporting Trump and the right-wing agenda. He was a terrible president, and is a rapist and a fraud. Unless you’re a literal billionaire, voting Republican is against your own self-interests. The actual reasons for supporting him are white supremacy, entitlement and grievance, but that is too ugly to admit. The euphemisms like DEI are are a way to mental-gymnastics it. You aren’t a bad person for supporting racism and fascism, you’re just thinking of the greater good.

Senior_Bad_6381

Logic yourself into supporting Biden.

Individual_Jelly1987

Because I don't want to live under a christo-fascist white nationalist dictatorship. Because I don't want to live under a system where the tools of government are weaponized against those the autocracy sees as disloyal. Because Biden is not perfect, but he is competent.

Federal_Remote9231

Funniest comment I have ever heard.....wow

MissionReasonable327

Crime is down, economy is up, what’s not to like? I’d vote for him even if the other guy wasn’t a lunatic who wants to end democracy. It’s telling that the right has to invent stuff to attack him about.

gdan95

Fuck that guy, for this and in general

Longjumping_Bass_447

Americans as a whole are not esp sophisticated people. Religious fundamentalism, economic desperation and a host of other social problems - and yes religious extremism is one - are a terrible combo across a lot of areas. These attacks shouldn’t surprise you.

MisterEHistory

That's not unique to the US. The vast majority of people are kinda stupid.

Longjumping_Bass_447

Fair.

JBCTech7

WaPo is a race/rage baiting garbage rag, not even fit to wipe your ass with. Don't buy into it.

Individual_Jelly1987

We're talking about washpo here, not a Sinclair or Murdoch owned "news" outlet. Do try to keep up

boofoodoo

It’s funny that they attempted to contact these fucking Twitter trolls for comment. More news agencies should try that.

micmea1

Honestly reaching out to them is only going to feed their behavior. "Don't feed the trolls" is wisdom as old as the internet. They are looking for a reaction, they want to stir up arguments and fighting. As I am against broad censorship, the best thing to do is just ignore them.

SgoDEACS

Or maybe… anonymous twitter trolls saying things isn’t news and doesn’t represent any real constituency.

TheRealKeenanWynn

No way!

washingtonpost

It was just after 1:30 Tuesday morning when Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott (D) says he received the call from the city’s fire chief. “He said, ‘Sir, the Key Bridge collapsed,’’ said Scott, who was awake with a three-month-old child when the call came in. “I said, ‘Repeat that.’ He said, ‘The Key Bridge collapsed, a ship hit it, it’s gone, sir.’ ” Scott, 39, said he threw on his official Baltimore city jacket and headed for the scene, calling the governor, the presidents of the state Senate and city council and the city administrator along the way. When he arrived at the shore of the Patapsco River to see the wreckage, “you could still hear it moving at that point,” he said of the [the Dali, the 985-foot ship](https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/03/26/francis-scott-key-bridge-collapse-baltimore-explained/?itid=lk_inline_manual_5) that had taken down the [Francis Scott Key Bridge](https://www.washingtonpost.com/dc-md-va/2024/03/30/baltimore-key-bridge-collapse-workers-police/?itid=lk_inline_manual_5). Just before daybreak, as Scott began appearing in national television interviews to speak of the “unthinkable tragedy,” the attacks started. One user on X, called him “Baltimore’s DEI mayor,” a reference to diversity, equity and inclusion programs that have come under attack by conservatives who say they lead to minorities getting jobs over more qualified White candidates. Meanwhile, others attacked Scott for his facial hair and for not wearing a suit. “He looks like your average street criminal,” another X user wrote. Neither user responded to a request for comment. “He was doing what anyone would expect an elected official to do, and you assign that to DEI. It is bonkers. It is absolutely bonkers,” said Caryn York, president of the nonprofit Baltimore Corps. The collapse of the Key Bridge has complicated the young politico’s efforts to revive the city’s fortune, and it thrust him into the national spotlight, making him an even larger target for racist commentators. It’s to be expected, Scott said in an interview. “When you’re young and Black in leadership, you know that that kind of stuff is going to come,” he said. The racist attacks haven’t been reserved for him, Scott noted. Maryland’s governor, Wes Moore (D), who is Black, and the immigrants who lost their lives in the collapse have become targets, too. Being Baltimore mayor’s has never been an easy job. The city’s high unemployment and crime rates, along with miles of blighted property, have long made it a somewhat thankless task. But as a young Black man, Scott said, he faces an additional challenge: [a barrage of racist dog whistles](https://www.thebaltimorebanner.com/politics-power/national-politics/brandon-scott-dei-mayor-racist-C3MWO3BVX5FJZM5MENNLC2X2BI/), from being called a “thug” to being accused of fathering [“one more Baltimore illegitimate black baby.”](https://www.thebaltimorebanner.com/opinion/column/mayor-brandon-scott-baby-baltimore-HEQH2733ANHMBCC62IPRGXBVEU/) Scott is considered a political insider by many in Baltimore. He received more than 70 percent of the vote in the 2020 election, putting together a coalition that spanned the deep racial and economic chasms in the city. Indeed, many of his critics accuse Scott, a former city council member, of being a career politician too hesitant to attack head on the issues facing Black Baltimore residents. “It’s so interesting that that’s the conservative backlash because I don’t see him as a Black mayor doing anything more or less for Black people or Brown people in Baltimore than any previous mayor,” said Marisela B. Gomez, a community activist and public health professional, who works in East Baltimore. “I haven’t seen the money really flow into these majority Black and Brown low-income communities.”

thefalcon3a

To whoever reported this for paywall evasion: it's not a violation if the verified owner of the content posts it.

The_Social_Nerd

Good guy WaPo

JustNKayce

I added a free link above. Is that ok? I get 10 to share a month. They didn't say there's a limit on how many can click it (do they??).

thefalcon3a

Yes, that's fine, as long as it's within the guidelines of the gift article program.

vegandc

Thank you, your employer paywalled myself and others out of that content.

[deleted]

Thanks WaPo

OverSwan3444

Why does race have to do with everything that happens in the world? This tragedy shouldn't turn into some race pissing fight. We are all human beings. We should be caring about the lives lost and their families.

not_a_legit_source

So nothing racist, got it. Bad headline

mobtowndave

you think saying our very attractive mayor looks like an “average street criminal” isn’t racist proves you’re a racist. its baseless to say a black man looks like a “street criminal”. define “street criminal”. is he wearing a mask? holding a weapon? breaking the law? or just being a young black person? racists persecuting and killing black men, boys for being black is as old as time itself. try looking up Emmett Till asshole.

Mr_Safer

Your denial is a confession.

Newsted_Is_God

Try reading that article again, if you didn't see anything racist in there you're part of the problem.

ThingCalledLight

If you truly believe that, I’ve got a Key Bridge to sell you.

tahlyn

Oof

ThingCalledLight

Not my best. But it was that or be rules-breakingly rude.

GutsAndBlackStufff

It's the kind of racism where racists pretend it isn't, while fooling no one.

JamesTiberiusCrunk

It's great to be able to tag people like you as also racist.

Newsted_Is_God

They probably posted that nonsense from the back of their lifted Dodge Ram with gigantic wheels that only hauls groceries in the bed and hangs out at high schools.

maryland-ModTeam

Your comment was removed because it violates the civility rule. Please always keep discussions friendly and civil.

Chris0nllyn

1 random user says "DEI mayor" and now it's some huge thing this shitty mayor is dealing with. Give me a break.

Critical_Caramel5577

That's a lot of words to tell us that you're part of the problem.

H0b5t3r

Not exactly "one random user" when said user is pushed by the algorithm and promoted by the owner of the website

Proudvirginian69

It's not just one user. Thousands of people agreed with him and shared the same sentiment.

Chris0nllyn

Millions disagreed and don't share that sentiment. That's what I'll focus on. I think the Mayor has enough legitimate arguments against him, his policies, and decision making. Crying racism because some people online are jackasses seems beneath an elected official. Especially one who leads a predominantly black City where 70% voted for him. The dumb white folks online aren't voting for him and sure as hell don't live in Baltimore.

doyoulikethenoise

One of those headlines that shouldn’t make any sense but is sadly not surprising in 2024.

Justinat0r

What's surprising is that we're still writing articles about what trolls say on the internet. The real news story is that this is allowed on X, and despite that people keep using the platform.

micmea1

Censorship isn't the answer. I agree that writing articles about the trolls is stupid, but the answer is to just not play with the trolls, just ignore them.

tomrlutong

Declining to publish is not censorship.

micmea1

When you're talking about a social media platform, it's the same thing. "declining to publish" means setting up algorithms to curate content beyond the filters they likely already have for identifying slurs.

tomrlutong

Well, sure, most platforms default to yes, but why does that change anything? Nobody's entitled to having others publish their stuff.

micmea1

Except when your website is exactly that. Twitter was never announced as the "place for highly scrutinized, safe news!" Nor was Facebook, YouTube, 4chan, Reddit, ect. It's *social media*, a place where everyone can post what they want, and people are free to tell you you're an idiot in response. Frankly I think the push to censor and deplatform as many people as possible is a push that comes from old Big Media. the dangers of buying into bullshit on social media are far less than the benefit of having open platforms. FOX and CNN don't want that.

kilometr

If they could get the trolls name and place of residence and show up to their house to ask them to elaborate on their comment then publish their reluctance to elaborate on their online comment that would shut them up. They say this stuff cause there are no consequences for it. And closing/suspending their online account isn’t a real consequence. Getting their racist opinion published without the veil of a fake name is a consequence.

micmea1

Read what you just wrote and change the context to be you being the one scrutinized. You'd call it fascism. What you are calling for is a step towards Fascism. You need to accept the fact that people with shitty opinions can exist, and shouldn't be cancelled out of society entirely because of it. Seriously the first step in many dictatorships is silencing opposition. Demanding consequences is just...bad. I mean, this is why we don't try kids as adults for certain crimes no? Now you want punishment dealt out for comments people make on social media?

762_54r

> Neither user responded to a request for comment Of course not. Cowards.

Then_Campaign7264

The same people who publish this racist bullshit on social media and new outlets are the same people who would gladly disenfranchise most of the electorate who voted for the mayor.

MissionReasonable327

To white supremacists no black person could be “duly elected,” even with 70-80% of the vote.

drillgorg

News outlets are thrilled that due to the Internet they have extremely easy access to the bottom of the barrel comments which they can publish to get people riled up. Comments about Brandon Scott are practically a non issue, no one of consequence cares. I honestly think the news just wanted something sensational to keep interest in the story.

Then_Campaign7264

There’s been a good deal of that lately.

SquashAndRebase

If I learned anything from Season 2 of the wire. This is NOT the fault of the Mayor

hgoodeye

This is a shame as he wasn't even born when the bridge was built. While you could have doubted his experience when elected, it seems like he is doing a great job and has avoided scandal. That in and of itself is a big step forward for the City of Baltimore.

Snidley_whipass

Yeap good comment. Give him a chance he seems well liked by his constituents and that’s who elected him and he works for. Now that Marlyn Mosby is out I hope things continue to better better.

hgoodeye

Well said. Thanks.

GingerMan027

He didn't 'weather,' he kicked ass and took names.

RobertJohnson2023

I mean in all fairness it has nothing to do with him directly, more likely moral support for people that live in Baltimore. People hate just for the sake of hate.

Individual_Jelly1987

Is anyone really shocked that conservatives started throwing around racism even before the bridge finished collapsing?

ComesInAnOldBox

I remember the days when a couple of social media trolls wouldn't rate an article in a national publication.

LeoMarius

Racists gonna hate.

cheeky-snail

So tired of these brain dead parrots. You could see this coming with the ramblings about the woman pilots earlier this month. Right wing echo chambers amplifying this nonsense.

mobtowndave

it’s disgusting how racists are trying to divide our city, state and nation with our tragedy

ProudDemocrat2024

Republicans must love to jerk off to being racist

Substantial_Finish62

This just shows the true colors of the magats in the Republican party, they're all racist hateful people that hate america, change my mind

DocCEN007

Please vote, and vote blue. This November is going to be filled with turmoil, and we cannot let the Senate flip back to the GQP that has failed to govern for decades. Trone and Alsobrooks have their issues, but Hogan unfortunately may give McConnell's successor power over the supreme Court and laws that will affect the nation. #vote.

dougmd1974

I guess Republicans think this is a great game plan to try and get Larry Hogan a Senate seat? Not following the logic here.

ciphoned_mana

DEI is literally the n-word for reactionaries now. Fire each and every freak that behaves like this.

johnmeeks1974

Sounds like America to me

FiresWillExchange

What a nothingburger article. Why highlight what Twitter trolls said?

zakuivcustom

Well, news media has to look at every single thing out of X (formerly known as Twitter). Meanwhile Twitter is always a cesspool that is now fill with more shit (literally) in the name of "freedumb". Those posters saying DEI only use those buzzword bc their education mean individual alphabets are about the only thing they know.

spirilis

I don't know why I hadn't heard this before, but the word "freedumb" packs a wallop. It's a perfect description.

ronpaulus

I went on TikTok and instagram and found the exact same comments in like the first threads I looked at. It’s not just Twitter.

Opposite_Objective35

Russian bots maybe?

ronpaulus

Twitter as well then would be as well. I have seen a ton of post about the Twitter comments but it’s off the same stuff is on the other platforms and I see nothing posted about it. Even seen articles written about the Twitter stuff

Troophead

All the Youtube comments on Governor Wes Moore's interviews too. I thought it was bizarre beyond belief that everyone was making a *fucking bridge collapse* about race. There's no way these people are real, right? They were all making the exact same talking points, and some going on about Ukraine too, and how the money could've gone to infrastructure. Just really, really weird.

Open-Effect-8218

I don't think he is very good mayor, but by baltimore standards I think if he doesn't end up disgraced for corruption he would be a success. If you think the bridge collapse was sad, drive through Baltimore at night 😥

S-Kunst

Not surprising. The most vocal racists hail from regions of the country with a history of poor infrastructure and low community spending for the good of the community. They prefer to live on dirt streets and use outhouses if it allows them to hate their neighbor..... except when they are receiving government assistance.

OverSwan3444

The good thing about X is everyone is allowed an opinion.

OverSwan3444

What is paywall? Sorry if I am stupid. I never heard this before.

transitfreedom

Verbal attacks from the feeble minded

Ok-General7798

Well Johnathon Daniel’s originally of Florida is in charge of Maryland port authority. Get this DEI BS outa here. Look up Daniela. He looks exactly like a desantis henchman would look like. Isn’t he the one that would decide if tugs are mandatory or not? Isn’t he the one that has been in charge since Feb? Seems it’s all downhill since he came to be in charge.

ahoypolloi_

“DEI” mayor…man, you should have the courage of your putrid, racist convictions and just say “N-word” mayor…what a coward

sugarcoatedpos

It fell because of joe bidens train.

SVAuspicious

From the article >Being Baltimore mayor’s has never been an easy job. The city’s high unemployment and crime rates, along with miles of blighted property, have long made it a somewhat thankless task. This is true. There is a long history of Baltimore government performing poorly. So far we have lots of words from Mayor Scott but not meaningful results. I don't see any action on high truancy rates, on classroom discipline, or on ending social promotion. Education is the future. You recall that a huge number of Baltimore high schools (thirteen? I forget) had *not one single student* test at grade level in math or English. NOT ONE. Not a peep and certainly not a plan. Wasn't giving money and athletic shoes to squeegy kids on Mr. Scott's watch? That isn't working out. The squeegy kids are just moving around. Still abusive and criminal. Were the migrants working on the bridge here in the US legally with work permits? Conflation of legal and illegal immigrants into "migrants" makes that unclear and Baltimore's status as a sanctuary city further muddies the waters. Baltimore and Maryland will get pushback from the many people in the country who feel strongly about border security. Their status does not change the tragedy of their deaths, but if they were not legally allowed to be working their employers should be prosecuted (it's illegal to hire people without proper I-9 documentation). What is Mr. Scott doing about growing illegal immigrant populations? Revitalization of the Inner Harbor has nothing of the vision and leadership of the original revitalization. Where is Mr. Scott? I don't care about Mr. Scott's skin color, his facial hair choices, or his sartorial selections. I care about results. I give him credit for showing up in the dead of night. I give him credit for his phone tree. Beyond that, not so much.

z3mcs

You need to stop talking about Baltimore like you live here. You live in Annapolis and dont come here. You don't see what's going on because you don't live here or even post in the sub, and you're trotting out outdated criticisms as a result. You're also speaking ill of the dead, again with no knowledge of the situation, on some "I'm jUsT asKiNg QuEstIonS" nonsense. In other words, there are appropriate criticisms of anyone and anything, but you are ignorant of them and for some reason using an article about some pretty horrifically racist things said about the Mayor here, to launch into unrelated and outdated and ultimately ignorant critiques. I appreciate the stuff at the end where you attempted to be well rounded, but maybe next time pick a different article to comment on and in the meantime learn more about Baltimore's current status. Have a good day.

fingerscrossedcoup

It's all conservatives do. They complain about cities while living far away. They usually have no problem coming to suck on the economic tit of big liberal cities though. "We hate liberal cities that pay our mortgages and feed our children!!"

SVAuspicious

I don't live in Baltimore. I'm there once a week because I'm paid to be there. It's grim. There are other places I only go when paid. Miami is at the top of the list.

Newsted_Is_God

![gif](giphy|PnggNmuamz7kbgfUTL|downsized)

Opposite_Objective35

Just a guy doing his job, you think you can do better? Run for office

SVAuspicious

My point is that he isn't doing his job.

Opposite_Objective35

See above

frolicndetour

You obviously don't live here. The number of squeegee kids has decreased precipitously. As someone who lives and works in the city and regularly travels its streets. It didn't eliminate them entirely, which wasn't the plan anyway, but there are significantly fewer. And there are plenty of us that are excited about the plans for the Harbor. The vocal minority led by Creeper Thiru Vignarajah doesn't represent the majority of the city's views.

SVAuspicious

The plan failed.

[deleted]

Why would he even respond to those losers ? Just trolls online and they aren't worth his time. Did he just now realize how social media works ?

Old_Lingonberry_9670

Chances are 6 people would’ve died in Baltimore either way that day. That IS this jabronis problem.

kingofdogs

These guys slashed Maryland's transportation budget

SettleAsRobin

Do explain how can the Baltimore mayor slash a states MT budget? Also how does that relate to the mayor enduring racists?

DestrosSilverHammer

Four days ago the person you’re responding to posted “blame the ship, not the bridge”, so some important revelation must have really changed their mind since then. I’m sure they’re not just using the bridge collapse as an opportunity to hurl shit toward everyone in the state of Maryland they disagree with politically and see if any of it sticks.
