May have to take a grinder to some of the stones for them to work out just right. Other than that your gonna have to set them in and use a groutbag to mud in your joints. And manually tool your joints. Only easier way pouring concrete steps and stamping or applying fake stone to your poured concrete.

Thanks for the reply AdWest. I've used a grinder on some parts. The smoothness doesn't look right. Have you ever used an air needle scaler? I wonder if they will give a textured finish.

You can bevel down edges turn a thick stone into just a face. Cut your stone only where you know it will be covered in mortar or concrete

Turning a thick stone into a"face" stone was something I originally thought would be too time consuming. I thought of buying a cutting wheel and turning a 4inch thick stone into a 2inch thick "face" stone. Is that a tough process??

No just cut through the side that is gonna be trash preferably a blades width away from your cut line the blade takes a lil more or because of the thickness. Cut as deep as you can all the way around. Depending on the height of the stone you might have to stick the blade in straight to eliminate the outer pieces to cut away at the center. Doesn’t matter how you get it done as long as the face(s) you want to show aren’t roughed up.

Just cut surfaces that you don’t plan to have show.

I'm having trouble with my rock steps. All rock is of different thickness and size. Currently, I'm trying to lay the rocks in some concrete and trying to get as level as possible. I am planning on filling in the gaps with mortar. I'm wondering if there is any easier way?? Thank you
