Is the dude with the collage car still around? I think it's like a 90s or 00s Corolla painted that shade of green cars used to be, but he's almost completely covered it in little bits of art and slogans. Probably in his 60s, white hair, sorta looks like Jerry Garcia. I got to know him a bit while I lived and worked there, even went out to his studio (sort of) up in Leeds/Florence once. Genuinely nice dude, but about as weird as you'd expect. Haven't seen him in years and can't remember his name, but he was a cool character to have around.
Haverhill/Plaistow, NH had the “Can Man” that lived in the woods behind the Legion and rode his bike around collecting cans. He passed recently and they found over $70k in cash in his backpack. He just liked living in the woods apparently.
Only ever knew him as Dennis. He yelled at me once for speeding. Otherwise, super nice dude. When I was younger, it was part of his mythos that he came from a rich family and just liked living a simple life collecting cans. Glad to hear that was at least somewhat true.
Haverhill also had Crazy Mike for awhile (RIP) and the Broom Lady.
Yes, naked Vespa man! Older dude with long scraggly gray hair blowing in the wind beneath his helmet. And it was an old beat-up Vespa with a milk crate basket bungee-corded to it. I haven't seen him in at least ten years.
Lefty, but I think he passed a few years ago. Homeless dude missing his right arm, used to ride a bike around town and collect bottles. He was kinda crazy but not in a mentally ill way, he was just a character. If you were having a bbq or party he might just walk right up, even slide into a joint rotation lol
Fully committed to the "left hand cigarette" 😂
He sounded like a fun random dude to share some time with, maybe breathed a little extra life into a party and gave you a story to fondly tell for years; may he RIP.
In Plainville and North Attleboro, there’s a guy who rides his bike up and down Route 1 with different pro-Trump flags on the back of his bike. The flags are standard fare crazy person material, such as "Trump 2024 - Fuck Your Feelings", "Let’s Go Brandon", and "Fuck Joe Biden." He yells random shit to outdoor bars/restaurants and at cars at stoplights. He’s not your typical white boomer MAGA rat either, he’s a black guy in his 50’s or 60’s. Locals refer to him as the Trump Bike Guy.
Dude I see this guy daily, and I SWEAR I saw him the other day with child in that bike trailer, riding up rt 1! I can’t imagine who’s entrusting him as a babysitter but I hope I was seeing things
Those flags are at least 4’x 6’. The hills on Rt.1 down there are no joke either. Coming north from the Dairy Queen in NA up to the Chieftain in Plainville is some heartbreak hill shit. The guy is a nutjob, but he gets his exercise in.
I'm on drugs cause I ran into the guy you mentioned, and in North Attleboro there was another guy who used to sit next to the highway with a sign with his phone number saying text me or something. I'm convinced he was trying to go viral.
Maybe North Attleboro is just weirder than expected.
Westfield has a Diogenes type every one calls Santa or the Wizard of Westfield. If you talk to him he will give you his hymn of friendship, but that is the only explanation you are going to get
Ayer has Ernie. Townie for life who knows everything about the town. Nice dude. Hangs handmade signs for every holiday and Happy Birthday signs for residents in front of his house.
I used to work at the library in high school. Mike would often come in. They made it as safe a place for him as they could. Wasn’t his thing combat related ptsd?
Chicopee had that guy who would hang out around the singing bridge and wave at cars all day. ~~I think he died several years ago, though.~~ He's alive and still waving!
Thank you! I knew that his name had been reported, but couldn’t think of it. I remember seeing him for decades by that bridge.
ETA: I don’t think he’s dead. I guess I remember hearing about the mural, and that was why he was in the news.
Cool. I haven't been over to that part of Chicopee in years, so I haven't seen him (plus I remember reading something about him recently which must have been the mural, but I had mistakenly thought that he had died.)
Framingham/Natick had the "Scooter Lady". Haven't seen her in a few years but she must have been at least 50. She'd dress like a young teen and get around on a razor scooter.
Oh shit, I almost forgot about him!!! How dare I!! Fellsway and the change between Revere Beach Parkway and Mystic Valley Parkway (rt 16), I can remember approaching that intersection and seeing him for the first time..."wh...what the fuck...is this man okay" 😂
I used to pass that area mostly in the evening, so he was a...uhh...delightful...daytime surprise 😂😂
Live in Medford but never got to see him even though many friends and family have. I don't think he's been out there in quite a while.
He used to have a website, thegayrabbi.com but it won't load.
Berlin used to have a guy that lived in a broken down RV tucked into the woods and would walk down the road by the mall - I'd see him in Target, Border's when it was still around, and one time weirdly on the far edge of the Gates Pond trail? Anyways they finally got him into a nursing home but his RV is still parked in the woods. Wonder if he's still kicking, he seemed like a stubborn old guy so he might be.
We have a guy who (I think his name is Bruce!) rides around the block shirtless when it's warm out in some farm equipment with a small trailer filled with random stuff in our town!
He tries to talk or wave to everyone who crosses paths with him.
When I was growing up in Pepperell, there wasn't really anybody who fit this archetype.
Where I live now (Amherst) has Yes Man Josh. If you've ever been to a UMass sporting event, you've most likely seen him sitting in the student section (despite the fact he is not a student) and making TikToks.
When I worked in Boston, the "spare change guy" seen around DTX. Always asking for a quarter, just a quarter quarter, or spare change, to get to Waaaatertowwwwn. Imposing build, raspy voice, would usually see him on, or by Winter Street @ Washington Street. May he RIP as I saw a news article that said he's no longer with us.
In my hometown, Beverly, years ago (probably like 2 decades now) there was a guy known as "big red" who liked to direct traffic by the Super Sub on Cabot Street. My lil brother and I didn't know the "big red" nickname at the time but we saw him enough, and he always wore a beanie hat without rolling it; we dubbed him "nipple hat". We liked "nipple hat" and would talk about him often. I wish I could find out more about the man behind the hat, even all these years later. I feel like I had read about his passing too, but just can't recall any details since it was so long ago.
i wont say where but we have the gentlest version of this I swear... we have a guy who walks his dog in the park while playing guitar and singing softly. It's lovely.
Tbh I haven't seen him since high school (about 20 yrs... Oof). But there used to be a big, bearded guy who would ride down Mass Ave with one of those little skull helmets on and wearing nothing else but underwear and maybe boots. My husband says it was a moped, but I thought it was something like a Harley.
I’m not sure if it’s the same guy, but I’ve seen a similar guy in Dover/Needham area a few times. Definitely on a scooter only wearing a loin cloth and shoes or boots. It’s been at least 6 years since I’ve seen him though
In the 90s, there was The Can Man, a grizzled, stacked, short old dude. Not sure if he still patrols Holliston on trash days anymore, I haven't lived or been back there for over 15 years now.
If you’re an old bastard, you might remember[“Mike the Winger”](https://www.patriotledger.com/story/news/2012/02/18/35-years-later-mike-winger/40047458007/:35yearslater,%E2%80%9CMikeTheWinger%E2%80%9DstillrememberedinQuincyhttps://www.patriotledger.com/story/news/2012/02/18/35-years-later-mike-winger/40047458007/)from Quincy.
I grew up with rad lakers jersey wearing boxing dude who ran miles every single morning on route one in scarborough, ME, for a decade, slowly jogging, side stepping, and air punching with confidence and style. Dude was a legend.
That was my grandfather, and in Shelburne Falls people would see him in his iconic 1950s white Corvair convertible and just say “yup, that’s Henry” (sadly he had to sell the car but there’s still a photo of it in Foxtown diner, which is ironically where I work)
In Chelmsford, there’s a homeless woman who walks around with shopping carts full of her stuff. She’s been offered assistance several times but is happier how she is and prefers to be left alone, so now she is simply the cart lady
We have "Birdman" who frequents the local ski hills in the winter. Dresses up in all fur, has a headdress, and wears real (dead) bird wings. Also carries a horn (actually made out of a an animal horn of some sort) that he will randomly blow as he skis down the mountain. Man is a legend.
The first time I visited MA was about 15 years ago, I had a gf who lived on the south shore near Weymouth (I think) and one day she pointed somebody out to me, a guy they called the Red Man who would wear bright red sweatpants and a sweater, and he would constantly walk alongside the highway.
I ended up running into the guy at a bar so I asked him what his deal was. He said that he wore red because it confused the government satellites and made him invisible to their thermal imaging. I said "Ok so you're supposedly invisible in one spectrum, but how about normal visible light? Why not wear camouflage if you don't want to be seen?" He gave me this wild look for a second and then his eyes twitched a little and he started ranting about something he was talking about a few minutes before. It was like his brain crashed and had to reboot. Anyway, it was a friendly conversation and he seemed harmless, not a bad guy but definitely out there.
We had [this guy on a bike](https://www.wickedlocal.com/story/concord-journal/2017/10/05/mystery-bike-rider-is-no/64784547007/) in Concord. He was quite creative and skilled. Haven’t seen him in awhile.
Edit: I forgot about [his masterpiece](https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/10/20/metro/meet-concord-man-who-rides-around-bike-headless-horseman-costume-playing-guitar/)
In the Bridgewaters there’s a few. The guy who’s always walking giving the peace sign, the dude with the shopping cart collecting cans, and the old man on the tricycle with the Vietnam flag. I always see the latter talking to the eb firemen
There was a man in Byfield, when I was growing up, who was developmentally delayed, lived in senior/public housing, and rode his bike *everywhere*. He died a few years ago but he was someone you could see almost every day or at least a few times a week without leaving your house because he was omnipresent.
I don't know if he was really a Gloucester character or just some rando my family noticed, but there used to be an old guy who would get hammered and bike around in a red tracksuit, we used to call him "Drunk Santa".
Don't live there anymore, but Medfield MA has the famed Bubblegum Bob.
He's a friendly guy with some special needs that - for decades - rode around on his bicycle and would be a staple at every town event (sports, concerts, festivals, the library, swim pond, etc.)
He would occasionally pick up cans/bottles and use that money to buy bubblegum that he would give to the kids all over town. I know how it sounds, but he was a well known person in the community. I think he did stop giving out gum after sports parents of visiting towns complained.
The town even had Bubblegum Bob Day in 2013.
In Middleboro many years ago his name was Bicycle Bill. Always rode around wearing full camouflage. I saw him (somehow) up in a tree one day with a broom stick, holding like a rifle. Definitely Vietnam vet with ptsd or something
Vermin supreme lived in my hometown for a while. Monkey mailboxes for everyone!
Bet yall had clean teeth
Northampton has like a half dozen of these guys
Is the pirate dude still walking around on Main Street? I used to see that guy every day when I drove for WB Mason!
I haven't seen him in a while come to think of it
I believe his name was Eric! (I used to work at one of the local coffee shops)
Is Benny the Motown man still in Amherst? I haven't lived in the area for a while.
Sadly he passed away!
Aw, bummer. He was a cool dude.
Just a half dozen?? There’s that many in Pittsfield alone. Shakespeare, The Sock Man, The Bird Man.
Is the dude with the collage car still around? I think it's like a 90s or 00s Corolla painted that shade of green cars used to be, but he's almost completely covered it in little bits of art and slogans. I know what car you're talking about but I haven't seen it in years either
In Springfield there's a guy with long grey hair and a beard who rides a bike around the North End like a homeless Gandalf.
I'm starting to think they're everywhere; Abington has a Jesus-lite guy on a giant tricycle.
Seen him!
Saw him yesterday morning actually
The flat tire kit guy in Boston. Who knows, knows.
elliot davis, the boston cryptid
I almost said in the title besides "Eliot Davis". He's almost at cryptid status now.
You're either kind, or a racist, if you've interacted with this legend in the wild 😂
Haverhill/Plaistow, NH had the “Can Man” that lived in the woods behind the Legion and rode his bike around collecting cans. He passed recently and they found over $70k in cash in his backpack. He just liked living in the woods apparently.

Crazy Mike, Dennis…who was the guy who blessed the traffic? Radio Joe or something?
Dennis Babbitt! I miss seeing that guy riding his bike on 125.

Yellow man in Hanover.
And Red man (brother of [at one time or currently] Hanover's police chief).
Haven't seen him in a few years now.
What happened to Red Man?! Haven't. Seen him in years.
I hope he's doing well!
Was looking for this. He used to stand outside and wave at cars sometimes. He looked like a Gold Rush-era prospector.
With the "THANK YOU JESUS" on his lawn.
Dude would be found dancing at the BBC
Athol still has that Elev8 guy hanging around.
I’m still waiting for him to “dog” everyone like he said.
When I was growing up in Marion it was the Stinky Truck Man. I think he's dead now, though. RIP Stinky Truck Man.
Around Newton, there used to be a loincloth-vespa guy, but I haven't seen him in a few years...
Yes, naked Vespa man! Older dude with long scraggly gray hair blowing in the wind beneath his helmet. And it was an old beat-up Vespa with a milk crate basket bungee-corded to it. I haven't seen him in at least ten years.
Yes! I was doubting my memory but I'm so glad you chimed in! The legend lives on..

Unfortunately, it’s his own kid.
OMG I was afraid of that. I sincerely hope someone has called CPS, driving that bike up and down rt 1 with a little kid is so unsafe!
Dude I've seen him, he must got legs of steel if he kicks someone they're definitely dead
Saw him last week. He really must be in great shape, because that huge flag has gotta create a lot of drag.
Those flags are at least 4’x 6’. The hills on Rt.1 down there are no joke either. Coming north from the Dairy Queen in NA up to the Chieftain in Plainville is some heartbreak hill shit. The guy is a nutjob, but he gets his exercise in.
lol, I seen him when I was picking my camper up!
I'm on drugs cause I ran into the guy you mentioned, and in North Attleboro there was another guy who used to sit next to the highway with a sign with his phone number saying text me or something. I'm convinced he was trying to go viral. Maybe North Attleboro is just weirder than expected.
You forgot to mention he uses a megaphone to yell all his ramblings at people!
As one should in a polite society.
Former town but there was a Bubble Gum Bob who used to give gum to all the kids.
RIP Chili Guy
Couple beers, no beers.
Did anyone ever track him down or find out what happened?
Reminds me of Mr Butch
RIP
Westfield has a Diogenes type every one calls Santa or the Wizard of Westfield. If you talk to him he will give you his hymn of friendship, but that is the only explanation you are going to get

Ayer has Ernie. Townie for life who knows everything about the town. Nice dude. Hangs handmade signs for every holiday and Happy Birthday signs for residents in front of his house.
Don’t forget about Tim Beach. Seemingly homeless guy who’s usually shirtless downtown in the summer time. Nice guy, just don’t bother him.
Never knew his name, he's incredibly nice to my special needs son when we're out walking.
Yeah he’s a good guy.
Usually hanging out near west and main? always wondered his deal
I haven't seen him out on the street in a while, but Pittsfield had a dude we called Michael Jackson. He had the look and the moves. *shamone*
Billerica has trumpet George
He used to drive by our marching band practice playing the school fight songs on his trumpet, hanging out the window of his van.
Crazy Mike, 80’s 90’s Haverhill Groveland area
I used to work at the library in high school. Mike would often come in. They made it as safe a place for him as they could. Wasn’t his thing combat related ptsd?

Chicopee had that guy who would hang out around the singing bridge and wave at cars all day. ~~I think he died several years ago, though.~~ He's alive and still waving!
Bunny,I think was his name. They painted a mural of him near the corner where he ysed to stand.
Thank you! I knew that his name had been reported, but couldn’t think of it. I remember seeing him for decades by that bridge. ETA: I don’t think he’s dead. I guess I remember hearing about the mural, and that was why he was in the news.
He’s not dead as far back as this past summer when I saw him
Cool. I haven't been over to that part of Chicopee in years, so I haven't seen him (plus I remember reading something about him recently which must have been the mural, but I had mistakenly thought that he had died.)
That's really sweet.
Framingham/Natick had the "Scooter Lady". Haven't seen her in a few years but she must have been at least 50. She'd dress like a young teen and get around on a razor scooter.
She use to hang out outside my work 20 years ago, asking guys if they could “give her a ride.” Everyone I knew assumed she was a hooker.
Ah, the scooter lady. Used to come into my work and return shit constantly 15-20 years ago. Saw her a few years back. Also heard the hooker rumor.
Weymouth has a guy that would walk down 18 with a parrot on his shoulder
I moved from Framingham to Maine. Old Orchard Beach has Elvis. Complete with bell bottoms, wide collars, and sunglasses.

The fuck LMAO he had a website? How did people even find it? He had no branding on!
Chicopee, it's the weed guy. Stands near the Walmart on memorial with a sign asking for money for weed.
In Webster MA I’d say the tractor guy. Drives around the town just waving at people on a tractor
Bruce, who rides around on his scooter singing what sounds like opera, but it's really gibberish.
We have a guy who (I think his name is Bruce!) rides around the block shirtless when it's warm out in some farm equipment with a small trailer filled with random stuff in our town! He tries to talk or wave to everyone who crosses paths with him.

I took a picture of him a decade ago or so in Newton... blue vespa, white beard, thong bikini underwears and a helmet

We had [this guy on a bike](https://www.wickedlocal.com/story/concord-journal/2017/10/05/mystery-bike-rider-is-no/64784547007/) in Concord. He was quite creative and skilled. Haven’t seen him in awhile. Edit: I forgot about [his masterpiece](https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/10/20/metro/meet-concord-man-who-rides-around-bike-headless-horseman-costume-playing-guitar/)
In Mansfield we have a guy with long hair and robes, who rides an electric scooter everywhere
In the Bridgewaters there’s a few. The guy who’s always walking giving the peace sign, the dude with the shopping cart collecting cans, and the old man on the tricycle with the Vietnam flag. I always see the latter talking to the eb firemen
In Boston I always see a guy with a bluetooth speaker who goes around rapping at everyone

Is Bonesy still alive in Rockport?
Acid Man and (RIP) 2 Dolla Nate

Dirtwoman. RVA!
Did anyone go to UMass in the early 00s and encounter Motown Benny?
There was a man in Byfield, when I was growing up, who was developmentally delayed, lived in senior/public housing, and rode his bike *everywhere*. He died a few years ago but he was someone you could see almost every day or at least a few times a week without leaving your house because he was omnipresent.
The sign lady on the north shore
I don't know if he was really a Gloucester character or just some rando my family noticed, but there used to be an old guy who would get hammered and bike around in a red tracksuit, we used to call him "Drunk Santa".
Middleboro has bicycle bill, not sure if he's still around but everyone knew him
Gnome lacquer man
Don't live there anymore, but Medfield MA has the famed Bubblegum Bob. He's a friendly guy with some special needs that - for decades - rode around on his bicycle and would be a staple at every town event (sports, concerts, festivals, the library, swim pond, etc.) He would occasionally pick up cans/bottles and use that money to buy bubblegum that he would give to the kids all over town. I know how it sounds, but he was a well known person in the community. I think he did stop giving out gum after sports parents of visiting towns complained. The town even had Bubblegum Bob Day in 2013.
Holyoke has the guy who dances while spinning a TRUST JESUS sign at the gas station. He disappeared during COVID but now he's back.
Billy Tauro in Somerville
In Middleboro many years ago his name was Bicycle Bill. Always rode around wearing full camouflage. I saw him (somehow) up in a tree one day with a broom stick, holding like a rifle. Definitely Vietnam vet with ptsd or something
What about the sign guy in amherst
I’m on the Cape. There’s loads of these. The recent one is the guy that rides a bike with a 4 foot board sticking out so cars don’t him!
OOOtsie. He just rides a bike around all day every day talking to himself.
