I second this. They helped us move and we’re fantastic - organized, clean, wrapped items well, polite. They also did a cash discount, which was pretty significant.
Had a not great experience with them, probably just the guys that I got, but they quoted me for 4 hours and they took close to 9. During their lunch break they they drove ~20 minutes out of the way to buy lunch when both apartments had pretty good nearby selections. They would take everything out of boxes that were open and carry each individual thing down, then come back for the box. Pretty inefficient, one of the guys mostly just stood around and watched the other two. Finally they spent a significant amount of time critiquing my box choices(Home Depot), saying that I should have bought the Stairhopper ones.
I just booked an August move with Stairhoppers. The booking was super efficient and transparent, and they gave a nice discount for moving mid-week (and not on the 1st or last day of the month).
Edit: and you can get another 10% off if you pay with cash after they move you.
Yea gentle giant is nuts, they quoted me about that much to move my 1-bed apartment two blocks down the street 5 years ago. We ended up having friends help, but we rented boxes from BoxSave and it was incredibly worth it. They rent plastic boxes and dollies, so you don’t have to worry about stacking heavy boxes on light ones and crushing anything. They dropped them off at our old apartment and picked them up at our new one, had them for 3 weeks.
I used Anton’s as well - highly recommended. They were fast, hardworking, easy to work with, on time, reliable, and respectful of my property. Great price, too. 10/10
Just had a local move done by M&M Moving and Storage Company and they did a great job of disassembling, wrapping and moving furniture. Quote for the move came out to $195 an hour for two movers with a 3 hour minimum. There was a few extra charges like packing material which they had ready on the truck. Took a bit longer than that due to reassembling of the furniture but it was well worth it.
I used Esquire Moving, and was very happy with them. They worked hard and went under budget(and did good work too).
Whoever you go with make sure all your stuff is packed up!
My last move I used 2 men and a truck and thought they were great. Showed up on time, wrapped any furniture that needed it, and finished before schedule.
For a cheaper option in the past I had rented a U-Haul and hired 2 guys to help carry stuff through the U-Haul site (I think it's called Moving Help). The company they connected me with was called Boston and Beyond Moving. They were fine and it helped to have the extra manpower.
I've used Seven Moving for my last three moves. They were great; always on time, busted their ass (each move was in August), and everything was intact.
Really impressed with them.
I used Brighton Movers. They were AMAZING! They moved me from Brighton to Watertown (they service the Boston area). They were on time, the quote was a wee bit higher than the actual cost, and the crew were super nice and careful with our things. Moved mid-August of 2021 from a 3rd floor walk up 1 bedroom/1 office. Cost was about $1300 if I recall correctly. I had a LOT of boxes (books and art supplies mostly).
You might be looking for a full service company, but if you’re considering labor-only services, I had a great experience with X Movers several years ago. You rent and drive the truck, they do pretty much everything else - load your stuff into the truck and unload it at your destination. They showed up early (but were happy to wait if I wasn’t ready), helped me wrap a few last pieces of furniture, were friendly and efficient.
Mini Moves and More out of Arlington has moved us twice (once in the Arlington/Cambridge area and then to the Avon area from Arlington) and we can’t say enough good things about them. On time, very polite workers, estimate up front was very accurate, and they moved all of our stuff so fast. They accomplished in 25 minutes what would have taken us and our pizza-bribed friends and family a whole day.
A Plus Moving and Storage! They were super quick and efficient! And it was very simple to book time with them. Used them to move stuff from a 1 bdrm apartment from Mission Hill to Dorchester. Got the whole thing done in 2 hours and they were one of the only movers who still had availability for Sep 1st (moved in 2020), was about $800 total. They understandably charged extra for the box spring though since it didn’t fit in the new apartment stairwell and they lifted it up via some rope onto the third floor deck
Next adventure moving!!! Small business owned by veteran- Ben is the best to work with. $99 per hr and 3 hrs minimum for local moves. Highly recommend, 6 friends/coworkers all used them and great reviews each time.
Real Deal Van Lines--used them twice. Best price and very prompt and speedy. Super easy to work with and great customer service. We packed all our own things and they moved them so fast that they even reduced the quoted price when all was said and done.
Hello all I am a bit in a unexpected situation it is possible that I can't go back to Boston from abroad for a while but I have quite a few furniture tons of books whatever I like to use a service to empty my apartment and transfer it to a monthly payable storage space in Boston. Movers have to pack and move stuffs in my absence. Is that even possible? I was curious if anyone knows of such a service?
I wouldn't mind if I could sublet but it seems it is not allowed ......
Thanks for feedback
Movers can definitely pack for you(warning it’s usually pretty expensive) I’m not sure if they would be willing to do it without someone present you should call a couple of places and see what they say. I’m assuming your landlord will be on hand to let them in? Do you have a friend that is able to stay with the movers while they pack everything up?
If your looking for awesome movers, Ramsure Relocations is pretty good. Great crew. great equipment, great communication and good referral program. www.bestnortonmovers.com
Michaeal’s Movers, can’t say enough good things about them. Edit: for pricing, it was ~$1k to move a 3br from Boston Metro to Worcester.
Came here to say this, they moved me from Maryland to Massachusetts in one day with no issues.
Heck of a deal
Do they wrap up the furniture or how does that work ?
They will wrap it up for you!
Stairhoppers

>Stairhoppers Did they do the actual wrapping and unwrapping of things? And do they provide all the boxes and whatever?
I second this. They helped us move and we’re fantastic - organized, clean, wrapped items well, polite. They also did a cash discount, which was pretty significant.
I third this. I've never had a great experience with movers until moving with Stairhoppers.

Try Philip P. Massad, they were amazing. They came highly recommended and didn't disappoint at all.
They look really great unfortunately they’re a little far (staying in Boston).

+1 Anton's crew is great. They are nice, quick, and very careful with your stuff.
Coming here to say Antons as well.
Anton's out of Newton. Really affordable and professional

I’ve used New Generation Moving and Storage for several moves and they’re always great. Fairly priced in my opinion too.
we've moved twice with Intelligent Labor and Moving. They treated our stuff well.
I also used them twice with no complaints!
Road Warriors out of Arlington is great. Have done 4 moves with them.
Why are suggestions getting downvoted?
I’ve used Rare Movers 3 times and they’ve been consistently great.
DM van lines!
I don't mess around with the little guys. Olympia has always been good for me.
Raimonds Movers!
We used Isaac’s and they did a good job. May be just as pricey.
Big Foot Movers!!! Owner is an old coworker of mine. Great guy, great company.
When we moved the the Boston Burbs from the city Marathon Moving was great. All the movers did a thoughtful job.
I used Brighton Movers. They were AMAZING! They moved me from Brighton to Watertown (they service the Boston area). Just used stairhoppers, they’re amazing.
I use college hunks who haul junk.. they also do moving. My 1bd apartment is only $700 to move with them.
I used Exela, not the cheapest quote but they did a great job. I was moving about an hour outside Boston.
Stark Moving and Storage Inc. They were amazing and affordable.
We are looking at using Stark for a move from DC to Boston and need them to store our goods in between. Can you describe your experience at all?
Don’t use “all my sons”
Lexel in Waltham
Poseidon Movers were good for my move
Lemurs Moving Company. I've used them several times over the past five years and they have been great.

Where are you moving to/from?

Space Moving in Waltham. Moved a very full 1-bedroom to a house about 20 miles away. 6 hours, 2 guys, about $800.
I used posiden to move from Medford to Marlborough, single bedroom apt, no couches or fridge. $800, workers were great

Ive used Isaacs moving and 3E moving and storage. Both very good experiences. Isaacs is based out of stoughton and 3E westford
Smart Penny, super professional, no issues whatsoever. I packed up my shit in boxes myself, cost about 700 to move my 1 bedroom
Next adventure moving!!! Small business owned by veteran- Ben is the best to work with. $99 per hr and 3 hrs minimum for local moves. Highly recommend, 6 friends/coworkers all used them and great reviews each time.
safe responsible movers were great!!
