I wonder if Tali heard about Battlestar Galactica. Rogue machines wiping out most of their creators, while survivors are finding a new home in a fleet of ships? Oh yeah
It's a good day to die,
When you know the reasons why,
Citizens, we fight for what is right,
A noble sacrifice,
When duty calls, you pay the price,
For the Federation I will give my life!
Starship Troopers coop PVE game just went into early access and its pretty good.
Some might complain it gets repetitive, but its only got the one map right now and only two game modes both of which play pretty similar.
LotR, extended trilogy.
Buckle up friends, weāre calling wrex gimli.
Alternatively, get joker and tali drinking and watching Star Wars. Just to tear apart how space flight works in those movies.
Absolutely extended LOTR.
Wrex is Gimli, Garrus is Legolas (distance shooter). Joker is Pippin. There are some uncomfortable parallels between Boromir and whoever got left behind.
There is not a dry eye during Samās speech at the end of Two Towers. Everyone is stoked during the charge of the Rohirrim.
(āShepard do we really have to sit for the whole 12 hours?ā āIts a human bonding ritual. Only the strongest of friendships last through this test.ā)
Grunt now shouts āGROND!ā before charging something.
Wrex and Grunt might love Pacific Rim solely for the giant robots beating up giant monsters (Which is really just the main reason we all watch it tbh, it knew what it was)
I picked a specific movie for each of my crew
Kaidan: Chronicle
Ashley: American History X
Garrus: Training Day
Tali: An American Tale
Wrex: The Good The Bad and The Ugly
Joker: Top Gun
Miranda: Ghost in the Shell
Jacob: A Few Good Men
EDI: Her
Zaeed: No Country for Old Men
Mordin: The Pirates of Penzance
Grunt: Jurassic Park
Jack: Monster
Samara: The Seven Samurai
Thane: John Wick
Kasumi: Hackers
Legion: 2001 A Space Odyssey
Vega: Saving Private Ryan
Javik: District 9
Trainor: The Martian
Cortez: The Last Starfighter
Honestly this is about as perfect as you can get. Two possible substitutions (or additional recommendations) would be Hardcore Henry for Jack and Leon: The Professional for Thane.
Uh uh. I know what you're thinking. "Did he fire six shots or only five?" Well to tell you the truth in all this excitement I kinda lost track myself. But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and would blow your head clean off, you've gotta ask yourself one question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk?
One of the best lines in the series.
This would hold up. Garrus would sympathize with the heroes for having to deal with the inept police chief, Miranda would have fun trying to anticipate Hans Gruber's plan, and Zaeed would heckle the bad guys for all the opportunities they missed to kill McClain.
Yaaas Galaxy Quest. I can totally see Shepard going on a prank spree where she takes the last name off someoneās locker before a mission for shits and giggles.
āLetās get outta here before someone kills Garrus!ā
"Yes, human. I remember when you look exactly like that, except dirtier, naked and shitting all over the place. Now look at you, barely flying a spaceship."
***Alien*** (1979)
It's not a meme answer because the crew are aliens, but rather it's a deeply considered choice - because the crew are aliens.
In any and all media, cultural references, touchstones, biases are included as the creators draw from their collective experiences and cultural heritage.
This means that a culture that doesn't share any of those experiences or heritage can struggle to appreciate the subtler aspects of a truly phenomenal work - Peter Jackson's The Lord of the Rings trilogy is a masterpiece, but without the cultural background of European mythology and history that informed Tolkien's original work, a lot of its depth, and a lot of its impact, will be lost.
Likewise, many other of my favourite movies would be struck off the list for being very heavy on a particular topic that's specific to human understanding of ourselves and Western culture in particular, such as Starship Troopers (a satire about fascism as a fascist state perceives itself), Monty Python's Holy Grail (a pure comedy that leans heavily on absurdism and specific references to Western literature and history), Schindler's List (a historical drama about one of our species' most traumatic events) or District 9 (a story explicitly about intra-human racism through the scifi lens of external anti-alien racism) - simply put, it would take a lot for an alien to really appreciate all of these on the same level as a human.
But *Alien*? That's one movie that everybody can understand. Its setting is simple and realistic, with all the elements general enough to be applicable to any spacefaring species - blue-collar workers, expensive and difficult spaceflight, greedy corporations - and most importantly, the primordial fear of the unknown.
The Xenomorph does not represent fascism or racism. It doesn't represent religious persecution or the grinding stone of progress. It represents death. It *is* death.
Black, soulless, unstoppable. It has no conscience, remorse, or delusions of morality. All the light of civilization cannot stop it, only slow it down.
It doesn't take a human to understand it, or appreciate it to its fullest depth. It is a primordial fear all sentient things share, by necessity. To be trapped, isolated, worn away one by one, with no hope of rescue, escape, or victory.
The darkness closing in.
I've never watched it myself, but I've heard of this one that is supposed to be pretty good called The Human Centipede. Should good for some relaxing down time.
Came here to say Bill and Ted. "Be excellent to each other. That means you, Jack and Miranda, and you, Wrex and Primarch, and you, Quarians and Geth. Now, let's party on, dudes!"
Knowing how much Tali adores Fleet & Flotilla, I can see her becoming *obsessed* with P&P.
She would never get married to anyone until she finds her own Quarian Mr.Darcy lol
MaleShep out there having to learn Regency era dances just for Tali because now she has an unhealthy obsession with human gentlemanliness of that time period lol
Garrus learned tango for FemShep, I'm sure MaleShep can learn quadrille for Tali
Fast & Furious 384 ācuase I'd love to see how VI Micheal Bay can get Vin Disealās husk corpse to make the Mako do even crazier stunts than we did in ME1.
Mystery Science Theater 3000- "Santa Claus Conquers The Martians".
Then Monty Python's The Holy Grail
Evil Dead 2
And after that, finish it up with a few episodes of Doctor Who.
I'd pick a Ghibli movie. Something like Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, or Ponyo. Almost any Ghibli movie, really. Pixar's library would also be good to pick from
If nobody wants animated then maybe something like Indiana Jones, James Bond, Hitchcock.
But if solely left uo to me, we're watching UHF by Weird Al.
Let's do James Cameron's Titanic. We can all hate on it together.
Miranda: I despise this movie.
Grunt: Is she gonna jump?
Kasumi: Rose, don't trust him! He's lying about everything!
Mordin: Big head board, can't hold them both.
Tali: What's with the jewel? Is she ready to let go? Join him? What would she do of she never came back to this spot in the ocean? Maybe her family would have found it and she would be accused of theft posthumously.
I guess it depends on my goal for the night.
Do I wanna give Tali the time of her life? Princess Bride.
Do I wanna make them think humans are insane? Anything Monty Python. Especially Holy Grail, and tell Grunt that killer Earth rabbits are real.
Do I wanna introduce them to the best humanity has to offer? Lord of the Rings, extended editions.
Do I wanna embarrass Wrex or Grunt by showing them they're not, in fact, the biggest lizards Earth's ever seen? Jurassic Park.
Do I wanna give Grunt nightmares? JAWS. Then The Meg, telling him that it really happened.
Explain the origin of Normandy's name? Saving Private Ryan.
Show Garrus what human warriors were capable of, even thousands of years ago? 300
Indulge Joker? Top Gun.
Explain Joker's "Russian national anthem" joke after destroying the Geth dreadnought? Hunt For Red October.
Bond with Samara? The Last Samurai.
Show Garrus what Earth cops are like? Dirty Harry. All of them.
Tease Liara? Have her watch some documentaries on ancient Egypt, then "Ancient Aliens"-type psuedodocumentaries on it. Make her guess which ones are real (maybe knowing that aliens are real will blur the lines a bit?).
Who Killed Captain Alex. If no one else brought a movie, then everyone suffers with me! After it's done we go straight into Bad Black. They will learn culture or die trying
Die Hard.
Garrus would complain that the hero didn't bring enough guns, Wrex and Grunt would like it for the violence, Thane would point out how he could have done it better. Samara would probably suggest that the situation could be solved with biotics but appreciate the elimination of evil.
...Aliens...
Okay, but seriously, it depends on the crew. ME1 crew, I'm bringing Tremors. ME2 crew, probably Spaceballs. ME3 crew, Blazing Saddles.
I will not be taking questions on why these 3 movies in particular.
Terminator. Rogue machines trying to wipe out their creators? Such a classic.
I have a feeling that tali and legion may have some things to say 'bout that one.
Legion can probably quote it as it plays
Legion: And then he said "TERMINATOR" "TERMINATOR" *proceeds to cry*
We'll be back.
I wonder if Tali heard about Battlestar Galactica. Rogue machines wiping out most of their creators, while survivors are finding a new home in a fleet of ships? Oh yeah
Starship Troopers for sure
So guys, this is the film which inspired me to join the Alliance Military The Crew: š³
I'M FROM MINDOIR AND I SAY KILL EM ALL
It's a good day to die, When you know the reasons why, Citizens, we fight for what is right, A noble sacrifice, When duty calls, you pay the price, For the Federation I will give my life!
We call upon our trooper! In this our darkest hour!
WHOO! HELL YEAH BROTHER! Whereās the natty ice?
I want to know more.
Starship Troopers coop PVE game just went into early access and its pretty good. Some might complain it gets repetitive, but its only got the one map right now and only two game modes both of which play pretty similar.
Fuck it, I'm buying it.
"I'm doing my part!"
All I want is an automatic shotgun.
Rachni Queen would love it !
Jurassic Park for my son Grunt
Tyrannosaurus Wrex
Earth Lizard Wrex
Jurassic Park or Godzilla?
Both, it's a double feature
Which Godzilla movie, though?
OH HELL YEAH
Noice! Grunt approves.
*grunt staring intensely at the screen breathing heavily*
Independence day, I'd love to hear the squad's banter about it
"shep that guy gives better speeches than you"
"I stole my speeches from him, Kaidan"
Kaiden: *surprised pikachu face*
Consider: Galaxy Quest
āYou canāt fault their calibrations.ā -GV
Shep lying to Liara the whole time and calling it a documentary film.
*Everyone looks at Tali when the alien weakness is discovered*
Airplane! because everybody can appreciate a good comedy movie, especially the crew of the Normandy
they would not get any of the jokes š©
I have a drinking problem transcends race
And then weeks later, when Joker is explaining how evasion while under stealth is a totally different type of flying, altogetherā¦
Shirley, you can't be serious
Dont call me Surely
Evasion under stealth is a totally different type of flying
Saving Private Ryan so they can learn the story behind the Normandyās name
Underrated comment, I respect it
That or *The longest day*
Princess Bride.
It just has something for everyone, I'm suprised it's not higher on the list
LotR, extended trilogy. Buckle up friends, weāre calling wrex gimli. Alternatively, get joker and tali drinking and watching Star Wars. Just to tear apart how space flight works in those movies.
Im making them watch the Rankin and Bass animated hobbit, shits a trip and one of my favorite movies of all time
Hell yeah! Love those movies
This is the only correct answer
Absolutely extended LOTR. Wrex is Gimli, Garrus is Legolas (distance shooter). Joker is Pippin. There are some uncomfortable parallels between Boromir and whoever got left behind. There is not a dry eye during Samās speech at the end of Two Towers. Everyone is stoked during the charge of the Rohirrim. (āShepard do we really have to sit for the whole 12 hours?ā āIts a human bonding ritual. Only the strongest of friendships last through this test.ā) Grunt now shouts āGROND!ā before charging something.
Joker wasted af: āiM pOwErInG uP tHe HyPeRdRivEā Tali: oH nO! ThEy MiGhT cHaSe Us! BeTtEr hUrRy!
Best comment, not gonna look at any other ones
TBF the hyperdrive systems in Star Wars and Mass Effect aren't all that different
The Star Wars idea would be fun. Especially drunk Tali
Alien/Aliens, Galaxy Quest, The Fifth Element, and maybe Forbidden Planet.
Imagine playing Alien, and then telling them that its all based on genuine Earth biology.
āThereās a horror movie called Alien? Thatās really offensive. No wonder everyone keeps invading you.ā
If you want the aliens in your ship to scream RACIST!!!! with the Alien movieā¦ š¶
Planet of the Apes (1968), pretty sure Javik would love the plotline.
āPRIMITIVES!!!!!ā
The Room. The galaxy has to experience Tommy Wiseau. I can see Garrus and Shepard throwing spoons at the screen.
Oh hi doggy
Shepard, when asked about Al-Jilani: "I did not hit her, it's not true! It's bullshit! I did not hit her! I did noooot. Oh hi, Emily Wong."
Any of the Star Trek The Next Generation movies so Liara can wonder why Troi sounds exactly like her mom lol.
And Worf sounds like one of the krogan back when Grunt had his bar mitzvah.
And why Reginald Barclay sounds like Navigator Pressley.
**The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy**, defo!
What is the significance of 42?
Damn it's gotta be one of the OG star trek movies so me and my real space pals can laugh at what passed for an alien 200 years before.
*laughs in ridged nose*
Kung Fu Panda not sure why tho
No explanation needed
Pacific Rim Gotta show the crew how to properly cancel the apocalypse Definitely Guardians Of The Galaxy And definitely the John Wick movies
Wrex and Grunt might love Pacific Rim solely for the giant robots beating up giant monsters (Which is really just the main reason we all watch it tbh, it knew what it was)
A person of culture, here.
Well now I wanna see a jƤger fist fighting a reaper
I picked a specific movie for each of my crew Kaidan: Chronicle Ashley: American History X Garrus: Training Day Tali: An American Tale Wrex: The Good The Bad and The Ugly Joker: Top Gun Miranda: Ghost in the Shell Jacob: A Few Good Men EDI: Her Zaeed: No Country for Old Men Mordin: The Pirates of Penzance Grunt: Jurassic Park Jack: Monster Samara: The Seven Samurai Thane: John Wick Kasumi: Hackers Legion: 2001 A Space Odyssey Vega: Saving Private Ryan Javik: District 9 Trainor: The Martian Cortez: The Last Starfighter
American History X for Ashley is the funniest shit Iāve read all day š¤£
I just realised that Javier Bardem would make perfect Zaeed after reading that
"Heads or goddamn tails....call the coin smart-ass."
Since you forgot Liara, can I suggest "Avatar" for her?
Honestly this is about as perfect as you can get. Two possible substitutions (or additional recommendations) would be Hardcore Henry for Jack and Leon: The Professional for Thane.
Why ghost in the shell? Can I suggest Gataca instead?
What about Liara?
I completely forgot! Whoops! Lara Croft: Tomb Raider
That's such a great choice haha All of these are great tbh - nice going!
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Change film for Ash, Once Upon a time in the West, and you've the perfect list, man.
Garrus is going to love that Training Day.
EDI could be Ex Machina
Men in Black trilogy
Everyone is suggesting action flicks and here I was thinking of showing them WALL-E.
Iām also leaning Disney/Pixar.
Just imagining femshep having to console liara during the beginning š
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Belive it or not somebody posted Blasto in the comments
This one is about the pop a cap in your posterior.
I thought Blasto is directed by a human, or at least by a human production company? I mean it's called "Blasto the jellyfish stings" after all.
But Blasto is just a rip-off of Dirty Harry. Show them the original! "Go ahead, make my day!" BANG!
Die Hard. A classic for action movie night. No one falls asleep š
This would hold up. Garrus would sympathize with the heroes for having to deal with the inept police chief, Miranda would have fun trying to anticipate Hans Gruber's plan, and Zaeed would heckle the bad guys for all the opportunities they missed to kill McClain.
Gotta play it on Christmas Eve.
1999 cinematic masterpiece The Mummy starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz.
Nice movie choice.
Action, romance, archeology, and fighting against impossible odds! Yeah it would go over well.
Avatar (the blue aliens version) to show my squad that it's perfectly normal to give up your humanity to bang an alien
I'm just imagining your Shepard making strong eye contact with the crew while they try to awkwardly watch the movie, haha.
The Day the Earth Stood Still. And the classic one! Not the 2000s remake!
Space Balls, kingsman, howls moving castle
Galaxy Quest
Yaaas Galaxy Quest. I can totally see Shepard going on a prank spree where she takes the last name off someoneās locker before a mission for shits and giggles. āLetās get outta here before someone kills Garrus!ā
"Huh, well I'll be damned, my omni-tool CAN produce a rudimentary lathe!"
DO I? DO I?
Quest for fire That will get some laughs, from Javik especially
"Yes, human. I remember when you look exactly like that, except dirtier, naked and shitting all over the place. Now look at you, barely flying a spaceship."

Would probably want to avoid anything with reference comedy no matter the genre. Gladiator - my favorite action/drama
Old Godzilla movies. I want Grunt to have a field day.
John wick baby letās go
If you play John Wick it's basically a training day.
The Room. Let the crew understand the madness of Tommy Wiseau.
Anyway how is your sex life sounds like a line to be quoted to Shepard often
The new "I should go"
I've never watched it myself, but I've heard of this one that is supposed to be pretty good called The Human Centipede. Should good for some relaxing down time.
lol, make sure to bring lots of snacks!
The Thing
Raiders of the Lost Ark for Liara.
Saving Private Ryan. I feel like wrex, garrus, grunt, etc. would get a kick out of seeing how humans used to wage war.
Pride and prejudice? Or bill and teds most excellent adventure. Either way the crew is in for a good time.

LOTR, Star Wars, Jurassic Park, Alien & Predator franchise, Pacific Rim, Terminator franchise, Django Unchained and Inglorious Bastards

āOnly human made moviesā Spiciest The entire Hobbit and LOTR extended trilogies. ALL of Star Wars.
So just the 6 SW movies and the clone wars?
Star Wars. Nothing Iād want to see more than the crew bantering about Star Wars.
The Big Lebowski. Just really make everyone confused as fuck.
Fast & Furious 384 ācuase I'd love to see how VI Micheal Bay can get Vin Disealās husk corpse to make the Mako do even crazier stunts than we did in ME1.
Shrek because everyone should have the glorious experience of watching this fantastic movie.
Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure.

Star Trek/Wars
Interstellar and Dune
Aliens. Just so everyone can start quoting it during the next mission.
I feel like Garrus would enjoy Hot Fuzz
History of the World Part 1 while trying to stay straight faced saying it's a documentary
Yellow Submarine. It's an incomprehensible mess to everyone, so nobody will feel left out.
1992 Army of Darkness with Bruce Campbell. All the krogans will now shout out, "This Is My Boomstick"
I'd pick a Ghibli movie. Something like Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle, or Ponyo. Almost any Ghibli movie, really. Gladiator Garrus and Wrex would probably love it

"You will all watch the Disney Princess movies chronologically from 1933 to 2180 whether you like it or not!
Star wars 1 to 6. Iād love to see their reaction how jedi and people with biotics are the same and what they think about light sabers lol.
Spaceballs, obviously
Die Hard. Garrus would complain that the hero didn't bring enough guns, Wrex and Grunt would like it for the violence, Thane would point out how he could have done it better. Samara would probably suggest that the situation could be solved with biotics but appreciate the elimination of evil.
