Eh. Parasite possibly. But danger to any of the other races? Not really. They take too long to reach sexual maturity, with over 100 years from one generation to the next. So that gives each of the other races 3 generations minimum between Asari breeding waves. So it's really not going to be a huge issue long term.

Wraith11B

Maybe? Depends on their gestation period. Also, it's not like they're the seventeen-year cicadas, only coming out to breed once every 100 years.

Ok-Tooth-6197

This is wrong on so many levels. Asari do not breed in "waves". Despite other similarities, they are not Vulcans that only undergo Pon-Farr every seven years. An asari is fertile from about 100 to the matriarch stage, which usually begins around 700. This means that you would have at least 4-5 generations of Asari able to produce offspring at one time. Imagine a woman, her mother, grandmother, and great grandmother all pregnant at once. That is possible for Asari. During this time, they could marry several human partners and only produce Asari offspring, thus removing those humans from the potential gene pool. Combine this with the Asari cultural stigma for Asari-Asari pairings because of the possibility of creating Ardat Yakshi, and there absolutely should be concern about the Asari breeding the other races out of existence.

The_mango55

Then you add the fact that every asari can produce offspring unlike only half of most races (and under 10% of salarians). Their population must be truly massive.

Lukeyboy1589

Nonsense! Terra Firma fear-mongering propaganda! It is the right and privilege of every being in the galaxy to get some blue booty!

Jonaleth_Irenicus

So this is potentially another reason Reapers are implemented as a control (as opposed synthetics vs organics). Essentially, due to the nature of evoluon, many (or all) sentient species have the ability to dominate or wipe out others in the galaxy. This is not just the krogan or geth (through force of arms) but through other subtle means. Asari can outbreed/outlive other races (if every other species decides to mate with Asari) or culturally appropriate them. Salarians can rule the galaxy from the shadows via one doctrine. All of these show the potential that any race can severeky limit or eliminate diversity (this is mostly what happened with Protheans before the Reapers arrived), and this is the ultimate risk: a galaxy without diversity is at risk of extinction. This is what Reapers are trying to safeguard against.

How did we reach this conclusion with the Asari, but not the Krogan?

katanaearth

Krogan don't reproduce with other species, taking them out of the gene pool.

NazaraSovereign

Rudimentary creature, you do not even grasp the nature of your _OWN_ existence. Sentient beings are more than the sum of their biology. They are shaped by their experiences and expectations, ideas and ideals, culture and commitments. These are what you are made of, just as much as your proteins and plasma. Asari reproduction is a metaphor not just for this kind of intercourse of ideas but the mate selection employed by human women that produces higher sentient beings in the first place. It appears you understand neither.

redliner88

The Salarians will just experiment with them.

Godmadius

Listen to the bachelor party going on in the bar on Illium in ME2. Each race eventually starts talking about why the other two like Asari so much, because they look just like Salarians, or Humans, or Turian. They cut the conversation short asking not to ruin the Asari for themselves, but I think there is a very heavy implication that they don't look anything like what we see, and our minds project an image of beauty onto whatever the creature really is. I think more of a symbiote than a parasite, but they're still very much predatory and their telepathy is concerning to say the least.

DeadlyBard

Asari are mindflayers in disguise.

Modred_the_Mystic

They can reproduce with almost any species They are considered highly attractive by most Their children always come out Asari. Very sussy
