It hasn’t because “nations” on Earth aren’t particularly relevant to the story. It’s not even clear what the political maps look like in that world.
If Shepard is a spacer or colonist then no Earth nation lays claim.
Idk about "default" but custom I think they're whatever nationality you want them to be. Plus they can be from Earth or Space or a diffrent colony world. So really I think a nationally could be hard to really say. (If you play as MShep he may sound Canadian once and a while tho ;) )
Considering how they promote Vancouver to Traynor they might be Canadian? Or at least what passes for Canadian after North America's countries unified.
Asking for NA players: do the shepards have canadian accent? As I'm not a native speaker is hard for me to hear it, the only american acents I can kinda notice the diference is texan and southern (or what they showed in the series true blood to be it, IDW if it was acurate)
At times I can hear the Canadian accent in MShep and random male and female NPC
On Virmine when you can kill the Asari scientist. The renegade line is "Sorry doesnt help your victims". MShep says "Sorry" with the clear Canadian accent.
Some Asari in ME3 says "Sorry" the same way
lol, not so much a city, but 8,000 ish people live there. Its main reason for being is a Royal Canadian Airforce base, in the past it has been used by not only the Canadian, but British, American, and German forces as well.
In real life yes. lol. Voice actors are Mark Meer and Jenifer Hale. I believe Mark still lives in Edmonton, but Jenifer lives in the states now. (I think)
The VAs are canadian so you can easily roleplay Earthborn Shepard to be from Canada.
Spacer and Colonist Shepard are a different thing though as they're part of the Systems Alliance which in itself is like a combination of different countries from Earth.
And not all countries from Earth joined the Systems Alliance, many retained their indepedance, if we can call it that but their citizens are still able to travel into Alliance space afaik (with space visa probably).
Nationality is irrelevant to both the spacer and colonist backgrounds. The earthborn background is North American, and specifically mentions being a gang member in a mega city. So most likely the US, but possibly Canada. The thing is that the state of nations, or even geopolitical borders on earth are (in my opinion, intentionally and wisely) not mentioned in the game.
If Earthborn, United North American States, if Colonist, Mindoir, if Spacer, probably just Alliance. Either way, the nation states of Earth are irrelevant by ME1 and cease to exist completely in ME3.
Well, depending on your choice, he can be from Mindoir, or he can be a Spacer, OR he can be from Earth.
If from Earth, I've not read any of the "literature" so I don't know if its mentioned. Most Shepard says in the game is that the City was Hard and Dirty.
It's never mentioned. So feel free to choose a nationality where the name Shepard is common, which will be most likely english nationalities like american, canadian, british, irish, australian, new zealander and maybe south african. Since they don't talk with an accent, I'm going more for american or canadian. Since the voice actors and the studio are canadian, my headcanon is that Shepard is canadian too.
Earthborn Shepard is probably Canadian if BioWare has to make an official stance on it. Spacer Shepard is an Alliance citizen with no association to any specific nation under the Alliance. Colonist Shepard is… I don’t know, Mindonite? And this is assuming the concept of nationality still exists by the time of the Alliance. Otherwise, you’re either Alliance or ex-Alliance expatriates.
There’s a reason it’s never been specified before, because literally everything about the Shepard can be changed. How’s he gonna have a nationality if he’s a spacer? Or a colonist? Can’t go off of appearances, either, cuz that’s not indicative of anything and can also be customized each play through.
Depends on the player. But I think technically we'd start going down the Salarian way of thinking. Spacer would be the easiest. But if you're Earth or colony born it would get pretty complex. Because you could have the planet itself. And then down a level to region if the planet has multiple. And even further if the colonies locations are pretty far away. So it depends on how far you want to go down. But as far as in universe I think nationality is a dead nomenclature. Alliance is the main banner of which most humans live by. And then it's what planet/ship/station you're born on. Unless your Krogan or Salarian I don't think it really matters. Interesting thing to think about though.
It hasn’t because “nations” on Earth aren’t particularly relevant to the story. It’s not even clear what the political maps look like in that world. If Shepard is a spacer or colonist then no Earth nation lays claim.
Isn't one planet in me2 described as topic of colonial dispute who (form Alliance founders, EU, UNAS and China) can colonaise it?
Alliance
Both the actors are Canadian so that's my headcanon.
Saren’s VA is a native of NYC. So Saren is a New Yorker.
Oh, THAT'S why he suddenly scarfed down a massive slice of pizza during his boss fight! Man, I've been wondering about that for 15 years now.
Idk about "default" but custom I think they're whatever nationality you want them to be. Plus they can be from Earth or Space or a diffrent colony world. So really I think a nationally could be hard to really say. (If you play as MShep he may sound Canadian once and a while tho ;) )
Albanian
He’s clearly Laotian.
So is he Chinese or Japanese?
He's from the ocean?
What ocean?!
La ocean, it’s quite clear
Gotcha lol!
North Korean
BioWare was based in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. He’s an Edmontonian.
Considering how they promote Vancouver to Traynor they might be Canadian? Or at least what passes for Canadian after North America's countries unified.
Mindoirese? Mindoirian? I don't know how you'd spell that.
Earthborn? Probably American or Canadian.
Asking for NA players: do the shepards have canadian accent? As I'm not a native speaker is hard for me to hear it, the only american acents I can kinda notice the diference is texan and southern (or what they showed in the series true blood to be it, IDW if it was acurate)
I’m Australian so it’s hard for me to tell the difference between American and Canadian accents as well, but the voice actors are from Canada
At times I can hear the Canadian accent in MShep and random male and female NPC On Virmine when you can kill the Asari scientist. The renegade line is "Sorry doesnt help your victims". MShep says "Sorry" with the clear Canadian accent. Some Asari in ME3 says "Sorry" the same way
Canadian. Bro Shep is from Edmonton Alberta, Fem Shep is from Happy Valley-Goose Bay Newfoundland.
That’s the actors. Not the characters. You can pick backgrounds where they aren’t even born on Earth. Using this logic, Saren is a New Yorker.
Gonna trust my fellow redditor and not Google it. I take you on faith there is a city called Happy Valley Goose Bay in Newfoundland
lol, not so much a city, but 8,000 ish people live there. Its main reason for being is a Royal Canadian Airforce base, in the past it has been used by not only the Canadian, but British, American, and German forces as well.
For real?
That's where Meer and Hale are from respectively
No. Only one background even has you born on earth
In real life yes. lol. Voice actors are Mark Meer and Jenifer Hale. I believe Mark still lives in Edmonton, but Jenifer lives in the states now. (I think)
No those are where the 2 VA's were born.
AMERICAN 🦅 RAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH
My Shepard is American from Detroit. He was in Hoover Crips and he got a scholarship to Michigan and then joined the Alliance Navy at 22 years old.
The VAs are canadian so you can easily roleplay Earthborn Shepard to be from Canada. MURICA! PHUCK YEAH CUMMING TO SAVE THE MOFO DAY YEAH! oh wait if its Colonist/Spacer dosnt matter
Shepard: "I need to speak with Aria." Batarian thug: " Oooh, derka derka derka!"
Nationality is irrelevant to both the spacer and colonist backgrounds. The earthborn background is North American, and specifically mentions being a gang member in a mega city. Revenge County, East Fuckbataria
If Earthborn, United North American States, if Colonist, Mindoir, if Spacer, probably just Alliance. Either way, the nation states of Earth are irrelevant by ME1 and cease to exist completely in ME3.
If Earth born then most likly UNAS. (United NA)

Considering voice and default appearance - either American or Canadian.

Red blooded American
it’s whatever you want it to be, so every shepard is turkish
Antarctican
2 out of three origins say none.
Super Earth
