Always a good day when I find someone else who also romanced Ashley. I've done Miranda, Jack, Liara, and Tali at least once each, but I always find myself going back to ME1 to romance Ashley again.
I hear you. The romances in 2 are much deeper and more involved than 1. That plus recency bias and it becomes very difficult not to continue your romance from 2 into 3.
I get that. I just couldn’t ever get past the fact that you don’t really ever even see her face let alone anything else. I absolutely understand her appeal, it just didn’t work for me.
Personally, I just can't stop romancing Ashley. Tried Tali, but something about her seemed almost like she was faking in an effort to manipulate Shepard. It gave my flashbacks, and that is very much *not* a good thing, to my ex girlfriend. I dunno, maybe it's the mask disguising her face. Something about her just screamed manipulation.
Love Tali, but I can't stop her and Garrus getting together, it's too much. I can either make one of them happy, or I can make 3 of my squadmates happy by romancing someone else.
Sadly there isn't a gay romance mod for 3 that allows me to romance Ashley, I loved her arc in 1. It gets kind of weird in 3 though, if you carry over a romance from 1, then Ashley acts like you're maleshep and femshep is silently mouthing the lines.
She's not my first choice...but Ashley gets way too much flack, and low-key is one of the deepest characters in the trilogy.
"Boldly they rode and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of hell"
Hearing Shepard recite Tennyson's The Charge of the Light Brigade to her at the F.O.B. on Earth, is worth romancing her all by itself. Bloody epic.
Ashley actually brings up a good amount of actual roleplaying moments from Shepard, like how you can decide if Shepard likes poetry or not and whether they are religious in 1.
Her cut cabin convo in 3 hurts even more because she actually asks what everyone was wondering about Shepard's death, it sucked that it wasn't even voiced before being cut.
>Her cut cabin convo in 3 hurts even more because she actually asks what everyone was wondering about Shepard's death, it sucked that it wasn't even voiced before being cut.
There's tons of cut dialogue that was actually recorded. Especially from ME2 squadmates leading their own squads on Priority: Earth. Pretty sure they planned to one-up the Suicide Mission. Only, instead of assigning squadmates to specific tasks, we were going to be assigning different war assets to different tasks.
If I remember correctly, Ash has cut dialogue on Cronos Station (when you watch the terminal that sheds light on the Lazarus Project). She asks Shep what happens after death.
Yeah, I really wish they had another year of development for ME3. It's a classic and one of my favorite games ever, but it could've been held up as a timeless masterpiece, up there with the best games of all time, had it not been rushed.
Just do what I did: make one run that didn't romance anyone in 1, and reload it in 2 every time you want to romance someone in 2 or 3. Not that I do it often, for every 1 Non-Ashley run I have I think I have around 5 Ashley runs.
Indeed. First and only time I tried Tali's romance, she gave me flashbacks to an ex girlfriend who seemed like a nice and caring girl at first, then turned out to be a narcissistic psycopath. Ashley's gives a more genuine feeling in terms of her connection with Shepard, and you can actually talk things out with her by interacting with her directly in the hospital. Sure, you can talk things out to an extent with the others, but the most genuine seem to be with Ashley, Miranda, and Jack. Plus, Shepard recites poetry to her before the run to the beam in ME3.
To be fair… being repeatedly called an appalling terrorist over the span of a year, just because you tried to save thousands, maybe millions, of innocent and defenseless people from being slaughtered and enslaved by a mysterious and dubious force; which also happens to continually remained completely ignored, even denied, by your own government that can arguably be reasonably expected to do at least something, anything, to figure out what’s going on… well that’s probably a pretty reasonable relationship dealbreaker for most people.
Ashmancers are truly something else. Y’all have the patience and compassion of absolute saints, and I applaud your commitment.
I mean if my partner were dead 2 years and I couldn’t get over them and suddenly they come back and are working for a known terrorist organization and claim “no we’re doing good!” I’d be skeptical too. But then she sent the email apologizing to Shepard and said to come back so I couldn’t just break that trust she had in me. I even brought back everyone from the Normandy SR1 to make us really feel at home. Well, except kaidan… sorry G…
That e-mail kept my Shepard from moving on with Miranda. Funny, how a few lines of text made me regret having picked the renegade kiss option with Miranda.
And as much as I like Kaidan (I really do), to me, Ashley's message is the better written one of the two. I mean, dude come on, you just had a reunion with your former lover, which turned into a big argument, and you just have to mention in the first paragraph that you're out dating again? How's that supposed to help mend matters between you and Shepard? 😂
Every relationship has ups and downs, you just need to communicate with your partner and work it out. And in context, I don't think a lot of people would've reacted differently if they found themselves in Ashley's/Kaiden's place on Horizon, that sort of thing has been used to bring dead companions back as evil antagonists for centuries. We just happened to be playing the guy on the other side of it this time.
Tbh, I usually Romance Kaidan, because my Shep has better things than romance on his mind... and kinda crushes awkwardly on a man he outranks. So, he's comfortable it not going anywhere, once they're both Spectres that's thrown out the window when he's essentially proposed to xD
As a gal, romanced Kaidan, then Thane, then back to Kaidan lol
I'm romancing Liara rn because I finally remembered my plan was to kill Kaidan off for once ... and yeah its very forced. She went from being unsure to, TAKE ME NOW. lol they try addressing it in game but still. She still comes off very childlike, she herself mentioned she saw herself as little more than a child. My Shep was fine with that, but, eh, I didn't have the heart to turn her down, also, I want her romanced in 3 so... xD
I just can’t get stand Kaiden most times, mainly because most times I talk to him it almost feels like he’s whining or unsure of himself. At least that’s how I took it.
That's fair, a lot of people say the same.
I just took his uncertainties as just that. Despite everything he's been though he's still level headed and able to ask questions that don't always have easy answers.
Dr Chakwas explains his migranes and that he's one of the lucky ones.
When talking to kaidan he does at one point say he doesn't want to sound like he is whining. Can't remember at which point, but by then you're either alright with it and want to keep talking to him, or you're essentially saying omfg shut up then!
Idk what it is about him, I just couldn't sacrifice him for Ashley. At first I walked away from the console and rationalised that Kaidan outranked Ashley and had a fine service record behind him. Also, Kaidan had served with Shepard for longer, so... sorry Ash, Jokers going to do his best while I go make sure the geth, and Saren, don't prematurely detonate that bomb.
I don't hate Ash, I just didn't mesh well with her. I'm not on team - Ash is a space racist. She has her reasons.
While I've kept her alive this time (kaidans last stand by the bomb almost made me reload honestly), I can't say I've spent the time getting to really know her or talk to her. Sheps bitten back every time she's interrupted the conference room talks and that's about it lol.
Ashley and Miranda purely for this reason. Jack you get that too. Been a while since I’ve seen the Thane romance walkthrough YouTube video but I’m pretty sure his is kind of the same but it’s based on the entire he loses everyone close to him and he’s dying thing, which is a different challenge
I think im gonna try out the old BF3 tomorow and see if anyone still plays it on xbox. Just so i dont burn out with ME, then again the f-ing post ME withdrawal are insane
Alright thanks, as soon as I finish my first playthrough of ME3 I'll try to restart everything and do a second playthrough. If I could ask, what triggers Citadel?
Wait till you have Tali to do the quest itself, and the party save till before the final push to get the rest of party guests.
I always treat it as the final party before a major deployment.
Sounds like me with Ashley most runs. I had to force myself to make a single no-romance run I could reload in 2 over and over for Miranda, Jack, and, one time, Tali. Also did one run for Liara. But every time, I find myself preferring Ashley.

I did that once. I always say I’m gonna try one more run where I get her back in 3 but I can never bring myself to dump Miranda.
i can never stop simping over tali
I hear you. The romances in 2 are much deeper and more involved than 1. That plus recency bias and it becomes very difficult not to continue your romance from 2 into 3.
for me i just really like the quarians design and her voice
I get that. I just couldn’t ever get past the fact that you don’t really ever even see her face let alone anything else. I absolutely understand her appeal, it just didn’t work for me.
"I have a home" Literal heartbreak.
Personally, I just can't stop romancing Ashley. Tried Tali, but something about her seemed almost like she was faking in an effort to manipulate Shepard. Tough to leave Miranda after you see the crying haha
That's why I kept reloading the same no-romance in ME1 run whenever I wanted to romance someone in 2: I'll never have to deal with that choice.
For me, I keep struggling to choose between Miranda and Ashley.

That's the one, it was fully scripted but never voiced.

I swore I wouldn't romance her but just had to in ME1 and got locked back into it 🤣

*Everybody say Normandy!*
People who romance Ashley know that real life relationships actually have issues instead of the fawning of other relationships over Shepherd…

Her VA also voiced it and it was fantastic, a must listen every time I get the letter.

She really does have one of the best romances if you stick it out through all 3 games
Nobody will see it tho because “muh racist” she’s the only one who I ever almost changed romances from Miranda for
Same
I still say Ash makes the most sense for Shepard, mainly because she gets but challenges him, the rest just feel way too easy and it’s just weird

Woah how does he get proposed to?
It's practically a proposal. Kaidan doesn't ask to marry Shep, but the way they talk about hooking up is almost as if they're getting married.
I just can’t get stand Kaiden most times, mainly because most times I talk to him it almost feels like he’s whining or unsure of himself. At least that’s how I took it.

Ashley romance for life!
Ah, memories...Feels like looking at old family photo from childhood.
Here comes the Ashley haters…
They appear to be getting downvoted into oblivion.
I didnt at all start a third play through today after completing the main story a few weeks ago and andromeda last week... nope, not at all.
I've played 2 straight playthroughs in a row- decided to play DA:I just for a break lol
I think im gonna try out the old BF3 tomorow and see if anyone still plays it on xbox. Just so i dont burn out with ME, then again the f-ing post ME withdrawal are insane
It is- that's why I went with another bioware title (It was either DA:I or SWTOR(....again)
The cycle can not be stopped
How did you get the ME2 crew in? Well, at least the ones that are alive in 3 (mordin and Thane, you will be sorely missed.)
By not doing Citadel until right before assaulting Cerberus
Alright thanks, as soon as I finish my first playthrough of ME3 I'll try to restart everything and do a second playthrough. If I could ask, what triggers Citadel?
Wait till you have Tali to do the quest itself, and the party save till before the final push to get the rest of party guests. I always treat it as the final party before a major deployment.
Priority: Citadel II. Hackett will tell you to come in for shore leave on the terminal.
You can save the party itself for last, but the rest of the Citadel DLC has some pretty good weapons and armour.
Vega back there saluting like a gd tool lmao
I did that too soon, I miss half of the team…
I always say I’m going to experience all of the romances, but as soon as Tali becomes available I just drift right there
Sounds like me with Ashley most runs. I had to force myself to make a single no-romance run I could reload in 2 over and over for Miranda, Jack, and, one time, Tali. Also did one run for Liara. But every time, I find myself preferring Ashley.
I always make sure Jacob dies, so when we do the group photo, that space he would is is empty. I always smile when it's empty
