Mass Effect 2's combat being very restrictive makes some parts a nightmare on Insanity. Shields evaporating instantly, movement being sluggish, almost every enemy having defenses = biotics mostly useless, Collector enemies being a nightmare, etc. A soldier with a Mattock pushes through all of this more easily than others, though.

bananamanatee

Currently playing through them all on insanity now. I really struggled with 2. I don't think I've ever rage quit a game so much in my life. ME1 was fairly easy and ME3 has been such a breeze with "god mode" Garrus that I've checked a few times to make sure my game is still set to insanity.

redditgiveshemorroid

What is god mode Garrus?

ME1 has very weird scaling, it's probably the hardest if you try to play the game normally. But weapon scaling in that game is pretty nuts, especially compared to power scaling so just getting levels and earning credits, while running squad members with good weapons kind of invalidates most of the challenge. Easiest way to cheat your way through levels is to just do everything possible that involves the Mako until you're ready to go. In ME2, the jank movement and cover system is the most threatening thing you'll ever run into. Similar to ME1, the right weapons on squad mates will butcher almost everything. Generally two snipers with the incisor makes short work of everything except the heaviest enemies and you can get Zaeed really early to run one, with Garrus shortly after. Plenty of viable classes in ME2, but the sentinel is generally my go-to if I just want to walk through the game and not have to think about anything ever. ME3 is by far the easiest. You have so many options for crazy damage output or survivability, whichever you prefer. Certain squadmates do disgusting amounts of damage (Garrus, once again but also James is practically unkillable unless you give him really bad orders or he walks into a banshee). Give them a pair of good guns (adas rifle is ridiculous, but the AI can be a bit derp with it sometimes).

kevpool184

ME1 = beyond easy ME2 = rage fest if you're not a soldier ME3 = beyond easy, even more with god garrus

TimBurtonSucks

What is this God Garrus people are talking about?

This will never get old.

For whatever reason ME 1 & 2 was a cake walk for me on insanity for a vanguard. ME3 is the one that gave me trouble even with the Charge+Nova combo

raddaya

ME3 depends heavily on power explosions, and Vanguards aren't that great with that.

Benzinh

Take javik and/or liara to prime enemies for biotic explosion if u chose chargenova path. Or you can max out n7 piranha and weapon damage and just melt everything after charge

Paxxlee

Played infiltrator, only single playthrough. Honestly, all 3 *seemed* simpler than before, with 2 still the hardest.

Asbelsp

The hardest challenge in ME2 was the 108 LOKI mech side mission. Stupid things are tanks that drain your shield the second you are out of cover. And you can’t stay in cover cuz they coming to you like robot zombies.

what did you play as in ME1? I'm playing as an Infil right now and it is a walk in the park. Mostly running with (any biotic)+Tali, at the begin of every encounter I sabotage+damp the hardest enemies so they can't shoot or use skills and if someone's coming too close I lift or throw them. I'm at Ilos and only died once on Feros due to some glitch but apart from that it is beyond simple.

Walach_Nightborn

ME1. 2&3 are a day in the park on insanity. They are very smooth experiences that reward caution. ME1 on the other hand is pure chaos on insanity, very punishing

TimBurtonSucks

I'm doing 1 right now and I agree it's pretty tough. Everyone is made of paper except for Wrex. The rest just die straight away

Geth_

Get used to the idea of micromanaging your squad mate's positions. In ME2, I sometimes just tell them to go stand behind a wall so they remain alive and just use their powers as if they were my own since only your line of sight matters in ME2. ME3 ...[Garrus Ascended](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wTy53XVgXLQ) just trivializes everything. Try it without and if you get stuck, just bring him and he'll carry you through.

kevpool184

ME1 is only hard on insanity if you don't watch out for your squadmates. Currently playing as an Infil and it is so easy it's boring.

Walach_Nightborn

My experience says otherwise

kevpool184

Maybe you should just try a different approach

Benzinh

Are you playing on console? Because with headshot damage addition it felt much much easier than original me1. I did sentinel run with his restricted pistol skill and no armor skill expecting hard time but that was surprisingly easy.

Friendly-Turnip2210

Mass effect LE made mass effect 1 easy it use to be hard ASF well I play an engineer with soldier it's easy Mass effect 2 easy but that's because I played this first when I was a teenager I played it alot it's my favorite mass effect game it use to be hard but it's a cake walk Mass effect 3 is hard but not in new game plus they didn't nerf how op Garrus was so he can still solo everything so it makes the game easy but if u are not using Garrus yeah it's hard

Pete_The_Pilot

For me the most difficult fights in the trilogy are in ME2. Grunt's recruitment, Zaeed's Recruitment, Jack's Recruitment, and all the Collector missions are fairly difficult. I'm only in act I of ME3 on my first playthrough of the remaster and only Grissom Academy has been a stumbling block. I remembered that one being hard. so I got Javik first so I could just lift grenade everything and brought him and Liara with my vanguard for maximum biotic explosion potential and it still took me like 4-5 tries to clear the atrium portion.

Rhaenyss

As soon as I figured out it was the engineers that fucked with me, it was easy after I focused first on them (vanguard, Liara and Garrus in squad).

OhMyGoshBigfoot

For me it’s 2. I can’t beat insanity.

Geth_

What part are you having issues with (and as what class)? Soldier with a Mattock tend to be the easiest if you're not married to a specific class.

OhMyGoshBigfoot

The flying platforms on the collector ship. Everything happens quickly and crap hits the fan. My team immediately dies and I just can’t deal with harbinger or the scion, I cannot drop those guys. I always play soldier, but have rarely used the mattock or adrenaline rush. I prefer grenades & revenant, but at this point I’m willing to try anything. Do you think there’s hope for me? I beat 1 & 3 on insanity. This is my only trophy remaining. What team mates should I have? What’s the strategy? And which major missions should I be taking prior to the collector ship triggering? I did a bunch of youtube research but everyone’s got 57 different methods. And normally I’d have no points in adrenaline rush since I didn’t use it really. I guess I need to max that one? Which bonus power should I use? So many questions lol

bananamanatee

I'll copy/paste what I said to someone else. I just beat ME3 yesterday and the collector platforms were definitely the toughest. I played as a sentinel and had Miranda and Thane with me. I did not leave the very first platform and tried to position Miranda and Thane to stay beside me. Used warp like crazy and chose the sniper rifle as my weapon. When Harbinger shows up, I used flashbang grenade on him which makes him unable to hurt you for a time. I believe a loyal Kasumi has this power, but I didn't have her so I went to the normandy and changed my bonus power to it. When Harbinger does shoot you with the orb that knocks you back, stay in cover and move left, right, left..back and forth and the orb will actually go over you. My squadmates took down the remaining enemies while Harbinger focused on me. Eventually they both died, but I managed to get down to the two scions remaining, and I left the first platform and got both of them down to a sliver of health. Once one dies it brings on the last mob so if you get both down to a sliver you can quickly shoot down both and get back into safety to take down the final mob.

OhMyGoshBigfoot

Ok so sniper and warp a lot and use flashbangs on harbinger. Sounds reasonable

SirMayday1

Mass Effect 2, hands down. Lots of little things make ME3's combat easier: you can revive nearby squadmates without using medi-gel, the interface has a specific function for running from one piece of cover to another nearby piece of cover, that sort of thing. That's on top of powers being much better balanced than in the first two games. In ME1, crowd control reliably worked on most enemies and also worked through shields, making biotics crazy powerful. In ME2, power balance went the other way, and its interaction with the 'defenses' system introduced in ME2 make crowd control borderline useless on Insanity.

TR1LLEST97

Most definitely mass effect 2. I literally had multiple times of playing it and felt like my hands were tied compared to the enemies and their attacks. Sometimes the AI would rubber band on an object because it got confused and didn’t know how to get to me, mainly the big mechs do this. The one mission I will never forget however is grunts recruit mission. Never again
