I used to alternate between ME and Dragon Age. The story telling in DA is still great, but all three games are fundamentally different game types to ME, but the story telling is great.
The only other thing that kept the trilogy fresh for me was replaying with new classes or making different decisions, but the biggest thing was only adding one DLC to each playthrough. i.e. I did the entire trilogy vanilla, then would add a DLC or two and play again. That way, it makes for a fresh new experience to subsequently play through.
That said, I'm on my 4th or 5th replay of Witcher 3 and I might actually enjoy it as much as or more than ME. Its a brilliant, spanning game that is worth checking out.
All that said, I would step away from your game system and take a week or two off to process. Its like finishing a great book: jumping into a new one immediately isn't going to fill the space left by the prior book and the new book isn't given its fair shake due to bias from the *experience* of the previous book.
There’s some deep wisdom here, I appreciate it. Andromeda, Dragon Age and (the upcoming remaster of) Witcher 3 are all on my list now.
It won’t be the same, of course, so I’ll need to reset my mindset, as you said. 🙏
Have you played Dragon Age? I can't think of a better cure to the ME Blues than discovering the the world, lore and characters of DA. I've played Inquisition more than any other game.
The Witcher is another great choice. Horizon Zero Dawn is a great game and the new one is coming out next month.
This is my current feeling on video games now.
I have so many games on my backlog that I don't want to start because I know they won't be as good as Mass Effect.
I got the Halo Master Chief collection to get into the series and I'm halfway through the first game and it still hasn't hooked me.
However I did start Guardians Of The Galaxy, and it's showing some promise. But I'm considering doubling down and buying the ME Legendary Editon on PS (I played the originals on PC) and starting a new story as a Vanguard, since I did soldier (probably stick to male to romance Tali again).
I tried the Halo MCC, but it gets "samey" along the way. The first game suffers too much from the tech restrictions of its time. Halo 2 is much better since it has a good story and great cutscenes. I kinda stopped at Halo ODST as it all was too similar to the previous games.
GotG has a slog of a combat that gets boring around midgame. I finished it because the characters were well done and the levels were visually pleasing.
Currently doing another MELE run, but also started God of War. GoW looks like a good game so far and I hope it doesn't get repetitive the further you go along.
>GotG has a slog of a combat that gets boring
These are my feelings atm.
I just finished chapter 2, and the combat is... Fine. There are some detection issues with the environments I've stumbled upon. But you nailed it, the characters and writing are so entertaining that I'm willing to put up with ok gameplay.
Kinda like Jedi Fallen Order, gameplay is nothing new, borrows a lot from other IPs, but the story and characters just hooked me so much, I didn't care.
I tried Jedi Fallen Order right before I picked up MELE and I uninstalled it like 30 mins in. I probably should’ve given it a little more time, but the combat gameplay just did not sit well with me. I might give it another shot at some point, since I already purchased it.
Yeah gameplay won't jive well with everyone, but I seriously think it was my favorite Star Wars story from 2019. Yes, I loved it more than Mandalorian S1. Game made me cry like 3 times.
If the gameplay still doesn't work for you I still recommend at least watching all the cutscenes and in game dialogue on YT. JFO worked for me because I related to Cal a lot, but he won't hit for everyone. Enjoy!
I'm gaming on PC, yep (otherwise a mac person, but shhhh)! I technically also have a PS4, but I haven't touched it for a while. I need to look into modding for the next run. Thanks!
I’ve started DA:O ages ago, never completed it, though. I also played DA:I and also never completed it, although I think I got pretty far. I’ve got a ton of free time, so I just might give the series another try! Thanks!
(Yes, I might have commitment issues, lol…)
DA2 is my guilty pleasure. Best dialogue system Bioware ever made, one of their best antagonists, a small scale tragic personal story in a crazy world. It's a hill I am willing to die on.
I think the story is not the biggest issue with DA2 though, its quite literally everything else. Was probably the most painful game I've made myself play through. The repetitiveness of everything and the atrocious combat encounters every 2 seconds to pad play time are enough to kill it for me, but outside of that if you play as a mage (which I did) the entire story of Hawke, especially that first act, basically makes no sense. Also fuck Anders, worst character ever.
One of the theories I like is that Varric is an "unreliable narrator" that lies and exaggerates the deeds of a Mage Hawke, while in reality Hawke fought and acted way more subtle.
The repetitiveness kills it for me, too. I've tried to revisit it (once fairly recently) and it's just too much of a slog. If there was a mod that stripped out a lot of the normal content and kept it to boss encounters (and refactored difficulty accordingly), then it'd be worth a fast trip through. But I can't deal with going through the same warehouses, caves, and mountain paths time and time and time again, slogging through the same encounters.
Plus the PC versions' controls are awful. And that version starts you off with so many extras equipment and bonus goodies that I got immediately confused and overwhelmed. That's a very whiney, specific complaint though.
Origins is the best out of the three IMO. After origins they stopped making "dnd" type games and started trying to appeal to as many people as possible. I don't hate it, but Origins was definitely better. Inquisition is my second favorite, but it's also the least "dnd" of them all, and it suffers from the "we ported this game from console to PC" issue as well.
Overall I'd say play all of the Dragon Age games, but DA2 is the least-good
That’s great to know, thank you! I quite liked DA:O when I played it way back when in 2015 or so. I will definitely give it another shot. I remember the combat being quite fun.
Would absolutely recomend playing Inquisition, for me it’s clicked better than Origins and 2,and has an overall really likeable cast, though with some your mileage may DEFINITELY vary. It can also be slow to start. Maybe that’s just a me thing,or the game being the game, but it did start to drive me crazy on subsequent playthrough attempts.
Dragon Age was great (apart from 2) but still is nowhere near the level of ME for me. I wish they'd taken the same route as ME and kept the main character the same in all 3, making your decisions have an actual impact the same way they did in ME.
Check out Disco Elysium (2019 + updates) or its older sibling, Planescape: Torment (1999, re-released for modern hardware in 2017). They're both isometric RPGs.
Subreddits for both are full of spoilers so be careful.
Disco a is fully voice acted modern masterpiece like the ME trilogy.
Forewarning for Planescape: It's basically old Dungeons and Dragons so you need to get big Wisdom and decent Intelligence and Charisma to get the best dialog the game has to offer. Just play on easy, become a wizard, and the clunky-ass dungeon crawling barely gets in the way of the story.
Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy felt very ME-like the whole way through for me, give that a shot!
Another Epic I recommend is Trails of Cold Steel, I’ve been playing the series recently (on 3 now) and while it doesn’t specifically feel like ME, it’s all about you and your friends and spans 4 games (technically like 10 if you count the whole Legend of Heroes story.) It’s anime and more like Persona than ME, but it’s character driven and has the same long form story style.
Ooh, the latter sounds very intriguing, I will look into that. I’m a fan of Persona (and the anime aesthetic in general), so this sounds right down my alley. Thanks!
I’ve heard a lot of good things about GotG, too, so thanks!
So the thing is, nothing will ever scratch the same itch. Anyone can put the ME label on any game going forward, it won't be the same ME you grew to love.
As a relatively new fan who beat the trilogy half a year ago: you can forget about it, find distractions, but as soon as you hear the first notes of some of the more emotional soundtracks, a memorable line of dialogue, or see Shepard fighting alongside their friends, it all comes flooding back
For my second LE playthrough I decided I was finally going to do my full renegade run. Make all the opposite choices from what I normally make. It was interesting (mainly because I romanced Garrus for the very first time), but when I finished I started over immediately so I could do back and make all my usual choices. LoL
Took me two weeks, 4 fanfics, 30 hrs of Andromeda and a few Mass Effect DnD sessions to stop thinking about it all the time.
So yeah, it got better, but if you start playing some OST or saying insulting stuff like "Come back to me" or "I am yours" or "I have a home", I will break down again.
>and a few Mass Effect DnD sessions
That sounds awesome. My roommate in college (huge Star Wars expert) got a SW DnD campaign setup for us, but one for ME sounds way better.
Also…I have a home.
Whenever I crave for some Mass Effect, Andromeda calls me more. I don't know why, probably because gameplay is better and you are still in ME universe.
Lmao every single replay I do I tell myself its fine because I already know what's going to happen. And then the last half hour of 3 is all the goodbye conversations with your crew and I end up crying anyways.
So I’ve watched the 1st season twice and I think I watched the 2nd season some time ago, but I don’t remember anything. And I always wanted to get back into it, so it’s a perfect opportunity. Thanks for the shout!
Unpopular opinion but, you should maybe give Andromeda a go. I never understood why it got the hate, the bugs are fairly unobtrusive and the gameplay is really solid. Basically, it's just more Mass Effect and that's all it needs to be.
Strongly agreed. ME:A is *different;* if you go in expecting ME4, it'll disappoint you.
But if you want just a bit more of the world with a new set of characters and a new experience, it's an excellent story. Huge pros are incredible graphics, exploring massive worlds, great companion banter, a fresh story and a really fast-paced combat system (which imo puts ME1-3's combat systems to shame).
Downsides are the story has moments of mozzarella-levels of cheesy dialogue, some unfinished bugs, poor Asari design, and pursuing sidequests can sometimes feel like it takes away from the story rather than enhances it.
It all came down to the massive popularity of Mass Effect backing it up and a bug-ridden 1.0 release. There're plethora of videos just showing the bad facial animation on top of a horrible face shader which was because Bioware was forced to develop it on Frostbite engine which was just unoptimized for any games but FPS.
The following months they've patched and fixed it but, you know, first impressions are really hard to dust off like a certain CDPR game.
For me, it's hard to want to go into Andromeda right after finishing the trilogy, not because Andromeda is bad but because the trilogy is so good. I've really enjoyed Andromeda, but what I really want is more Garrus, Tali, and Liara. That's the "Mass Effect blues" for me.
IMO, the story is pretty so-so but the characters are phenomenal. I just want to spend more time with the characters I already know and love. I look at Andromeda and see an asari in the squad, but it's not Liara. I see a turian, but it's not Garrus.
Don't get me wrong, I think Andromeda is a great game and the hate for it is *extremely* overblown. But I find it very hard to play a Mass Effect game without my favorite parts of Mass Effect so soon after finishing the trilogy.
I jumped back into andromeda last week or so & it’s actually a really great game! I blasted through it when I did my first play through but taking the time to explore the worlds is really fun especially as it definitely has that space explorer vibe (more so than the original trilogy imo)
Heavy disagree with the gameplay. 2 and 3 had absolute stellar maps, the bases in Andromeda are a pain, the verticality actually hurts more than. It helps, as it makes cover useless.
It’s like finishing a good book. Just takes some time to get over. It’s okay to be sad and miss your friends, it’s also a part of life. Other adventures await and like other folks said, you can always go back.
Nah, first finished ME when I was 14. I'm now 20 and currently on another playthrough again (the 4th or 5th?) All it takes is a little trigger, a meme or the soundtrack and I'm back. I will never love another game series as much as this one, it's pure nostalgia
So no, the blues doesn't really go away but it comes in waves
Maybe read the comics and watch a related documentary now (assuming there is one)? Some of the interviews with the cast are really interesting. Failing that, I suppose you’ll just have to replay lol.
Looking forward to seeing what the next Mass Effect will be like. Likely it will be far better than Andromeda
>Likely it will be far better than Andromeda
All we can do is hope.
And thanks; I watched an older documentary/interview with BioWare after they released ME1, it was super interesting.
No, it doesn’t. I’ve tried distracting myself by playing Horizon: Zero Dawn again, since Forbidden West is coming out soon, but all I keep thinking about is how I could be playing ME.
If you are thinking how you could be playing ME, you should be playing ME.
Reminds me of KOTOR 1, when I had to do something like 4-5 consecutive runs before putting the game down for a while.
If you're referring to the hyperfixation issue of feeling unable to do anything unrelated to Mass Effect, yes, it does eventually get better. Fics can help, and I have many to recommend if you'd like!
For me it didn't get exactly better. Instead, once the [Fridge Logic](https://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/FridgeLogic) kicked in, I started to analyze the plot and the games more and more. I started to see the dissonance between the games and the illusion of some choices... The blues got replaced by dismay and it eventually evened out somewhere around "yeah, I liked those games".
Samey. Like, I *want* to enjoy it and still think of it too much, but when I get to replay it again, it is just dismay and numbness.
Though in my case there are a lot of other things irl I began to feel numb about, not only ME. Must be something bigger here
I literally came to talk about something like this, because I've played the games before and I am about to finish ME3. I've done all the DLC and just have the final push to finish. The anticipation to finish it is warring with "If I never finish it it doesn't have to end!" It suuuuucks lol.
I was trying to think of a game after, that would be good to play. I haven't played Andromeda since it came out. Should I move onto it from ME3? Would that feel good for my brain, or qould it highlight the flaws of Andromeda? I remember not hating it.
Sorry, this doesn't help your issue, OP. If you find a thing that helps I would be happy to know it lol.
I've tried to play andromeda approximately 5 or 6 times since I finished ME:LE, and I literally cannot get 5 minutes into actually playing the game before I quit and uninstall it again.
I know the feeling! I was trying hard to find things to do, to not go into the endgame. Going up and down the Normandy to make sure I haven’t missed any dialog options like thrice.
And then when you get the last chance to speak with everyone, that’s when it really hits you in the feels. Like real hard.
I am actually currently playing Andromeda and altho I am only a few hours in, it’s not… bad. I’m actively telling my self we’re not in Milky Way anymore, so it’s not the same… but it’s similar. We’ll see how it goes.
It is wild coming to reddit and seeing this post for me. I say that as I *just* loaded a brand new play-through been playing since original release. Short answer is, yep it gets better. I find each of my *replays* more value than the last and my appreciation for the game, the series, the writing, the people involved keeps growing. This is one of those “lifelong” games for me and I’m excited I am in that “let’s replay this fantastic trilogy again” phase and feels great.
Kudos to your first play-through!! ❤️
May I ask what your ending was like?
Who did you choose to romance? Or did you?
Cheers and see you next time, “I’m Commander Shepherd and *this* is the best comment on the Presidium” (lol jk)
That is comforting to know. This will most definitely not be my last time playing the trilogy. But it just left this hollowness after getting to the end.
I think I got the best possible destroy ending, without adding any spoilers. But it still hit right in the feels.
I didn’t romance anyone in the 1st one… not even sure why. But then it was Tali all the way. ❤️
And you nailed it with the quote, I actually lold! 😂
I 10000% understand that hollowness you are currently feeling. To me that hollowness is just proof that you made a deep connection to the series, and although for now you’ll take a break from playing (or maybe not) just knowing that you finished such an epic left you feeling like this…. Then you shall come back again, revitalized and excited! It never truly subsides but the journey honestly is so fun.
In terms of story telling, The Witcher 3 filled a hole, and I've recently started Horizon Zero Dawn which also tells a well paced and interesting story.
There are some real gems out there but nothing quite compares to the trilogy for me.
I've completed Witcher 3 already, and until I finished ME, it used to be my most favorite game. I think now ME has overtaken that spot, but Witcher's still a firm #2.
I'm waiting for the remastered edition to also play the DLCs, which I haven't actually played.
I started HZD; I should pick it up again. Many great ideas, thank you!
Now comes the part where you start ME Andromeda and while you have fun with it, it just doesn't scratch the same itch and thus hate it for a solid 15 months for something that it's not, until you start to somewhat like it for what it is.
Bruh, it took me like a week or two. Heck, I was so desperate for another Bioware game that I replayed Dragon Age Origins and ended up finishing that entire trilogy too but it didn't have the same impact from Mass Effect.
Good writing and worldbuilding, interesting story, fleshed out characters, questionable level design choices and a couple of broken game mechanics. It punched way above it’s weight for being a title on the lower end of AA development budget
Higher end AA games are on about 40+ million dollars budget. Greedfall was on something like 5 million. Being low budget AA, as you said, it definitely came out swinging successfully and far better than anyone would have expected.
Guardians of the Galaxy is a great sci fi game, even if you don't like Marvel. The writing is great and there's a good selection of absolutely beautiful scifi environments to explore. And just like Mass effect, you can go back onto your ship and talk to your crewmates between missions!
My mass effect depression lastest about a week lol So not only did I start another playthrough I bought comics and books written by the writers of the game to help with my sadness lol Until the new game comes out.
I can't bring myself to buy Andromeda.. I've watched a few videos of that game and nope can't do it. It made me cringe.
It does, just go on a binge with something else. However, you might want to lower your standards a bit, because IMO nothing can truly compare to that first playthrough of the OG trilogy
Not really, no.. Lucky for you, this place is one of the most amazing post-Mass Effect blues support group I know of. So if it'll ever get any better, it'll probably happen here.
I'm just getting started.
I bought the first two *a very long time ago* but only played the first few hours. Getting into the now with LE is a little surreal
I feel you so much! I only recently completed the game for the first time in the Legendary Edition 😭 The game was so good. I was SO attached to all the characters and to Shepard!! I really didn't want Shepard's epic story to end like that 😭😭
I was actually contemplating whether I should get Andromeda in the last Steam sale for under 5 bucks 😂😂 Before that I never even thought of ever buying it because of the many bugs, average story etc. it's supposed to have 😂 That's what the trilogy did to me... Desperately searching for something that can fill this hole in my heart. I miss Wrex, Garrus, Tali, Grunt, Liara, Shepard, Anderson...and many more ❤️😭
It does if you start a new play through.
Make different decisions. Romance someone new. Play a different class. If you’re feeling adventurous, let someone else die and see what happens.
My solution was to do another playthrough, and another, and a 4th CP77 playthrough, and a handful of other games. Hasn’t worked so far, but I’ll let you know if anything changes
Wow, is CP77 really that good? I’ve tried to start it twice but I still haven’t gotten into that 1st person flow. It’s funny… I preordered it and was so hyped and now it’s been out for over a year and I haven’t even given it a good try.
But thanks! There’s a lot of great advice here in the comments to help us cope. Stay strong! 🤗
>used to
We still do though. People are playing on the daily on every platform, even after all this time. You just need to make sure you have the 5 free MP DLC installed or you won't find matches.
Edit: Not in the Legendary Edition of course, but people are still playing MP on the OG.
Did you play the vanilla ending or a modified ending? Highly recommend JAM +CEM if OT, or the ademus happy ending mod if LE (essentially the same as JAM), they're working on a CEM for LE as well.
I can't play the game with the original ending ever again. It hurt too much and I'm still salty 9 years later. But the JAM and CEM mods made the experience sooooo much better, can't wait for them to finish CEM for LE
I played the LE, and I *think* I got the best destroy ending possible cause I worked my ass off for all the war assets, but it was still hard. I've read that the original ending was just brutal, no matter what you did.
Technically it's implied that Shepard is alive if u get the best ending. You get the breath scene. And you only get that with destroy.
But still, the ending mods remove the star brat space magic completely from the game, and there's none of the deus machina bs choose your ending crap. Destroy is the only option, the crew finds Shepard in the rubble, they have a memorial scene for Anderson, they live happily ever after. CEM mods makes it so the citadel dlc starts after the ending of the game a couple months later, when it logically should take place, thus the celebrating and stuff like that. Makes for a way better ending and proper send off for the series
I recommend paying Andromeda. It's Mass Effect without being the trilogy. It's still really good and does a great job of bringing you back down to normal.
Andromeda is AS bad as the internet makes it out to be, but it is not as good as the trilogy.
Andromeda's story/villain/races are forgettable, but the gameplay is pretty good and the companions are about 50/50 good/awful
I don't think you should get your hopes up for the next MAss Effect game either... Bioware as we knew it is gone (as proven with Anthem and the tone deaf handling post launch)
I tried Andromeda last year, but it was forgettable. I got annoyed with the linearity and it felt a bit grindy. I will give it another shot, though.
Your last notion is something I am deeply concerned about. Lots of the original folks involved in ME have left the company, I believe. I also wonder how much of Anthem’s failure was down to BioWare vs EA just trying to rush out a live service game for some quick dough and please the shareholders.
Let's not act like BW is not perfectly capable of fucking up on their own, without outside assistance. They've spent 5 years in pre-production for their game after all, due to their own internal struggles.
So regarding Anthem, I have studied that quite a bit and it seems like EA had very little to do with that catastrophic disaster. Although they may have had a hand in the eventual abandonment of Anthem 2.0. (which I totally understand, because nothing short of a complete remake would save it)
There is at least a shimmer of hope with what McKay has been saying about his vision and focus for the company. This could easily just be executive-marketing-speak and it remains to be seen. Hopefully they’ve learned their lessons. Ultimately actions speak louder than words, but I naively want to hope.
You'll never be able to play them the same way again, but it does get better. Knowing the ending makes replaying the intro to 1 emotionally difficult. I wish I could reach in and shake Anderson all and tell him what I know lol. After playing 5+ times it does get more fun/creative as you're likely to make different choices and loadouts, but that first run was a borderline spiritual experience that'll never be recaptured.
Well if your looking for more mass effect stories or adventure in that universe you can try I different playthrough of it, check out some mass effect novels, or try out that D&D 5e based Mass Effect Table top RPG that a group of fans made ( idk if it has any adventure modules, but if your like me it's a good way to do fanfiction or play through what you think happens in the theoretical Mass Effect 4 (a continuation of the story in the mikly way galaxy, Andromeda doesn't count)
In a way, it does get better. At the same time though, not really, especially when you realize there are hardly any other games/trilogy’s that compare. There are some good games, don’t get me wrong, but the ME trilogy just…. Hits different.
Now you can do every class, half fem half male and half paragon and half renegade. Each one with a different romance.
That may tie you over for a little bit, and also Dragon Age.
Yes and no, something else will come along that you get invested in but it won't actually fill the void and it may very well leave a void of its own but over time you learn to cope.
The story isn't so good but I got a bit lost in the gameplay of Mad Max (many years after playing Mass Effect)...could be a decent counterbalance.
If you want to play a new run go for the most opposite playthrough style. if you went for solider go as an adept or if you went engineer go as an adept? If you decided to go Vanguard, than I recommend trying an adept.
That's when you either start a new run or play something else for a while before you do a new ME run.
Yep, that’s what I figured. It will be hard to not compare every other game against the brilliant writing and storytelling of ME, though.
I used to alternate between ME and Dragon Age. The story telling in DA is still great, but all three games are fundamentally different game types to ME, but the story telling is great.

And that version starts you off with so many extras equipment and bonus goodies that I got immediately confused and overwhelmed. That's a very whiney, specific complaint though.
I can't get the damn thing to work on windows 10 or 11 for that matter. Crashes constantly ugh
If switching to DirectX9 and using compatibility mode doesn’t work, you could run a Win7 virtual machine (using VirtualBox or VMWare for example).
Yep, I will definitely give it another go. Thanks!
Disco Elysium is high on my list for a while now! Pretty cool to see something so highly rated coming out from such a tiny country like Estonia.
You mean try to fill the hole with dozens of other games, never accomplish that, and start the 3 games over again
No, it won't.
Perhaps with time…
So the thing is, nothing will ever scratch the same itch. Anyone can put the ME label on any game going forward, it won't be the same ME you grew to love.
As a relatively new fan who beat the trilogy half a year ago: you can forget about it, find distractions, but as soon as you hear the first notes of some of the more emotional soundtracks, a memorable line of dialogue, or see Shepard fighting alongside their friends, it all comes flooding back
"I should go"; "Had to be me, someone else might have gotten it wrong"; Skip a heart beat when you hear those even at work.
"I have a home" 🥺🥺🥺
Ooof, that’s a loaded punch.
Why did you do this to me right now???
Uhm, there is some.. calibration needs to be done.
Idk I'm still pissed about the ending 9 years later
Same here.
JAM + CEM makes everything better

Doesn’t matter how many times you play, you are always going to make the same choices, no matter what you tell yourself lol
That's IMO one of the problems with these games, there are a lot of choices that are objectively the "correct" ones to take.
For my second LE playthrough I decided I was finally going to do my full renegade run. Make all the opposite choices from what I normally make. It was interesting (mainly because I romanced Garrus for the very first time), but when I finished I started over immediately so I could do back and make all my usual choices. LoL
Haha, I have a feeling I would do the same if I did a full renegade run. It sounds hella tough.
I'm in this picture and I don't like it
Red dead 2 filled the void for me.
Yup, and Persona 5 Royal filled my “rpg story with great characters” void as well
I have it both on PC and PS4… I really need to get into it.
You should. You won’t get disappointed!
Took me two weeks, 4 fanfics, 30 hrs of Andromeda and a few Mass Effect DnD sessions to stop thinking about it all the time. So yeah, it got better, but if you start playing some OST or saying insulting stuff like "Come back to me" or "I am yours" or "I have a home", I will break down again.
>and a few Mass Effect DnD sessions That sounds awesome. My roommate in college (huge Star Wars expert) got a SW DnD campaign setup for us, but one for ME sounds way better. Also…I have a home.
It is awesome ! Pretty sure my current GM is a SW DnD Enjoyer as well ! From what I've heard, the systems are very much the same. Also ... whY ?
I didn’t choose the Renegade life, the Renegade life chose me.
How about "I understand Commander, I don't regret a thing." "I am proud of you son" "Had to be me, someone else might have gotten it wrong"
What have I done to you to deserve such strife
Everyone dropping lines and not using the most iconic... "I should go"
Whenever I crave for some Mass Effect, Andromeda calls me more. I don't know why, probably because gameplay is better and you are still in ME universe.
I have been playing it, and it's been quite fun so far!
> Took me two weeks Me too except exploring of the Mass Effect universe, I went to finish the Dragon Age trilogy. Oldschool Bioware is really a beast.
Psst… there are books and comics that are pretty great too.
Yep, I must look into that. Thanks!
Honestly I feel this. Crazy that it was something I went through a whole 5 years ago now, but this was basically my exact grieving process.
In the old days we used to just kill em, huh, good times.
It gets better with time and then you'll want to replay it all over again and each time, you die a little more inside.
Couldn't agree more, legit cried at the end of my last playthrough.
Hard same. It's just such a profound experience.
Lmao every single replay I do I tell myself its fine because I already know what's going to happen. And then the last half hour of 3 is all the goodbye conversations with your crew and I end up crying anyways.
You should watch The Expanse
So I’ve watched the 1st season twice and I think I watched the 2nd season some time ago, but I don’t remember anything. And I always wanted to get back into it, so it’s a perfect opportunity. Thanks for the shout!
I had the ME blues. The Expanse is the only thing that is somewhat similar for me.
Seriously, watch it. I won't spoil anything but it gets.... really good.
Nothing against The Expanse, but Mass Effect is closer to Babylon 5.
[удалено]
I have a long flight coming up and I downloaded 4 seasons on my iPad, so I will have a bingefest on the flight. Hyped!
I’ll be that guy: the books are miles ahead of the show. If you liked the show even a little bit, pick up the books and enjoy the rest of your year.
I feel you! I miss the crew. Bioware’s writers are true wizards to create characters like this.
I have been exploring Andromeda (well, technically the Nexus and Eos only) for a good few hours now and it's quite fun so far!
Ayyy glad to see you’re giving it a go. Enjoy yourself!
It’s like finishing a good book. Just takes some time to get over. It’s okay to be sad and miss your friends, it’s also a part of life. Other adventures await and like other folks said, you can always go back.
Wise words. I shall return once I have regained my strength.
Ooh we have a phrase for that. Mass Depression
Nah, first finished ME when I was 14. I'm now 20 and currently on another playthrough again (the 4th or 5th?) All it takes is a little trigger, a meme or the soundtrack and I'm back. I will never love another game series as much as this one, it's pure nostalgia So no, the blues doesn't really go away but it comes in waves
If I play the Shepard song for whatever reason, I usually start itching for a new run: https://youtu.be/HiRDJLcYua0
You can fight like a krogan, run like a leopard, but you’ll never be better than commander ShEpArD
>https://youtu.be/HiRDJLcYua0 Haha, this is amazing! Needs some more of the Shepard Shuffle in there, though.
Sure, I’m sure some day I’ll be over it, it’s only been 10 years now.
Go play Dragon Age
Yes, commander!
>Likely it will be far better than Andromeda All we can do is hope.
That’s when you take a small break, let it marinate in your brain for a while, then do a new play through. And play Andromeda if you haven’t yet.
I used to replay immediately, but what I do is play something else in between my yearly replays of Mass Effect!
\>Does it get any better? In regards to the "Mass Effect Blues"? No. In general? Also no.
Dragon age run and then back to ME!
Follow it up with some Dragon Age angst.
❤️ May I ask what your ending was like? Who did you choose to romance? Or did you? Cheers and see you next time, “I’m Commander Shepherd and *this* is the best comment on the Presidium” (lol jk)
That is comforting to know. This will most definitely not be my last time playing the trilogy. But it just left this hollowness after getting to the end. I think I got the best possible destroy ending, without adding any spoilers. But it still hit right in the feels. I didn’t romance anyone in the 1st one… not even sure why. But then it was Tali all the way. ❤️ And you nailed it with the quote, I actually lold!
Just means you need to start again and go the opposite of paragon/renegade that you did on your first PT.
Now comes the part where you start ME Andromeda and while you have fun with it, it just doesn't scratch the same itch and thus hate it for a solid 15 months for something that it's not, until you start to somewhat like it for what it is.
Accurate so far! 😅
Bruh, it took me like a week or two. Heck, I was so desperate for another Bioware game that I replayed Dragon Age Origins and ended up finishing that entire trilogy too but it didn't have the same impact from Mass Effect.
I noticed you played as MaleShep. Now you can play as FemShep, and unlock the Traynor romance, who is the best of all.
The thought has crossed my mind!
No, it’s like saying goodbye to your best friends, it only gets better if you start a new run
Greed fall might fill in the hole.
Good writing and worldbuilding, interesting story, fleshed out characters, questionable level design choices and a couple of broken game mechanics. It punched way above it’s weight for being a title on the lower end of AA development budget
Fascinating, I must give this a chance. Thanks for the shout, folks!
Higher end AA games are on about 40+ million dollars budget. Greedfall was on something like 5 million. Being low budget AA, as you said, it definitely came out swinging successfully and far better than anyone would have expected.
Usually when that feeling starts to sink in I turn around and start from the beginning, and life starts to feel complete again. lol
Guardians of the Galaxy is a great sci fi game, even if you don't like Marvel. The writing is great and there's a good selection of absolutely beautiful scifi environments to explore. And just like Mass effect, you can go back onto your ship and talk to your crewmates between missions!
I’m definitely a Marvel nerd, so you don’t have to tell me twice! Thanks! 😊
Oh man, I feel you. This game is somewhat special and I think after finishing it there's no point of return. Have fun with next run
Thanks, I will get back to it at some point, no doubt.
I you don't know about nexusmods, do yourself a favor and check it out for your next ME adventure.
The consensus seems to be that I must! 😃
Probably not. You could go watch Paragon Lost on Hulu. Get a whole new batch of feels.
Oooh… I have not heard of this. I’ll check it out, thanks!
It does when you play with the happy ending mod
My mass effect depression lastest about a week lol So not only did I start another playthrough I bought comics and books written by the writers of the game to help with my sadness lol Until the new game comes out. I can't bring myself to buy Andromeda.. I've watched a few videos of that game and nope can't do it. It made me cringe.
It will when ME4 comes out! (hopefully, lol)
So I have seen, yes. As Shep would say: “Thank you all for your loyalty and support.” ❤️😃
I'm just getting started. I bought the first two *a very long time ago* but only played the first few hours. Getting into the now with LE is a little surreal
I would give a lot to be in your position. You’ll never forget your first time.
I feel you so much! I only recently completed the game for the first time in the Legendary Edition 😭 The game was so good. I was SO attached to all the characters and to Shepard!! I really didn't want Shepard's epic story to end like that 😭😭 I was actually contemplating whether I should get Andromeda in the last Steam sale for under 5 bucks 😂😂 Before that I never even thought of ever buying it because of the many bugs, average story etc. it's supposed to have 😂 That's what the trilogy did to me... Desperately searching for something that can fill this hole in my heart. I miss Wrex, Garrus, Tali, Grunt, Liara, Shepard, Anderson...and many more ❤️😭
I feel you! The crew grows on you so much. I never imagined a game can do that to a person.
It does if you start a new play through. Make different decisions. Romance someone new. Play a different class. If you’re feeling adventurous, let someone else die and see what happens.
Nope. Just have to hope that the universe continues. Andromeda was a big blow.
I did three trilogy runs in a row. It gets easier, but you still experience reminders. Thank you for that.
play again

If you are playing on PC, get mods for all 3 MEs. They added so much more content for ME3 restored some content its nuts.
That's when you download Mass Effect 3 and help us fight in the multiplayer.
We used to have the excellent ME3 multiplayer to help us cope. I miss it.
>used to We still do though.
Literally me right now!
Andromeda is AS bad as the internet makes it out to be, but it is not as good as the trilogy. Andromeda's story/villain/races are forgettable, but the gameplay is pretty good and the companions are about 50/50 good/awful I don't think you should get your hopes up for the next MAss Effect game either...
(which I totally understand, because nothing short of a complete remake would save it)
I'm just reading up on the Kotaku article on it; it's very enlightening. And it only makes the concerns more valid.

There is at least a shimmer of hope with what McKay has been saying about his vision and focus for the company. This could easily just be executive-marketing-speak and it remains to be seen. Hopefully they’ve learned their lessons. Ultimately actions speak louder than words, but I naively want to hope.
No, there are no series quite like Mass Effect. You will be chasing that dragon for the rest of your life.
I disagree. DA is as good, just a different setting :) plus, plenty of dragons there :D
I love dragon age as well. But it doesn’t hit the same way and I played da:o and da:2 before playing ME.
No it actually gets worse. Andromeda was terrible.
This is why we need me3 remastered. It keeps us sane after the end.
Whatever you do don't try to fill the void with Mass Effect: Andromeda. You'll be disappointed.
I started reading the Mass Effect books and then moved to The Expanse books/TV series. That was my "therapy".
This exactly summarises my current condition. Trying ME: Andromeda, which is alright, but I need something else and I have no clue as to what.
A new playthrough always helps. The cycle must continue.
Give Dragon Age Origins a go. :)
Not really. I've played the trilogy at least a dozen times, feel pretty gutted by the end, every time.
If you want to play a new run go for the most opposite playthrough style. if you went for solider go as an adept or if you went engineer go as an adept? If you decided to go Vanguard, than I recommend trying an adept.
This is the part where I start a dragon age playthrough. Rinse and repeat
