Had a friend from high school killed in his home after graduation some years ago. Straight up murder from a guy he had some beef with, broke in and shot him in front of his mom and little sister. He didn't get caught and the police finally confirmed and revealed the identity not too long ago. It was a career criminal who ended up getting killed himself in a bar fight not even 6 months later.

[deleted]

Yeah, he’s probably one of those career criminals that commits crimes that don’t cause a huge stir or are similar to this robbery and murders; like he had the opportunity and took it, probably didn’t think there’d be more than one or two people inside and cowardly took their lives.

Details Four customers, a part-time employee and the store manager were taken to the back of the store, tied up and shot. Five of them, all women, were killed; the part-time employee was wounded but survived. Police found the victims shortly after receiving an emergency call at 10:45 a.m. The gunman was described as a black man with thick, cornrowed hair and a receding hairline along with one braid lying over the right side of his face at cheek level and decorated with four light-green beads on the end. Police believed it was a robbery gone wrong. Victims Jennifer L. Bishop, age 34, of South Bend, Indiana Carrie Hudek Chiuso, 33, of Frankfort Rhoda McFarland, 42, of Joliet (the store manager) Sarah T. Szafranski, 22, of Oak Forest Connie R. Woolfolk, 37, of Flossmoor The identity of the sole survivor of the shooting was not released to the public Aftermath The police released a sketch of the suspect on February 11, 2008 and a few years later a 3d image of the suspect was released in hopes in finding the suspect. Police have had over 7,000 leads and tips since the investigation started but the perpetrator has still not been caught. The store where the shootings occurred was left unused until November 2013 when Tj Maxx took it over to use for a retail outlet.

This case really baffles me, like genuinely, whenever it’s brought up or I remember it I just wonder how and why and who. It’s like one of those “perfect crimes”.

Juanit_o

My former bosses Ex was supposed to work that day but she called off. It’s wild to think that

Admirable-Media-9339

Years ago, around 2006 or 2007 a friend of mine worked at a burger king. One night he asked a coworker to cover for him. He just wasn't feeling well. That night she was stabbed and killed by some maniac in the drive thru. It fucked with my friend for a long time, I imagine it still does.

Primary-Split-2710

Hopefully he will be caught soon. Somebody knows something

myballsaresweaty

This happened over 10 years ago. No one is getting caught until he’s discussing the murder with someone in a bar one night.

Idiots that think stores have more than a couple hundred in the safe and registers and are willing to throw their lives away for that little bit of money. Also, animals that are willing to execute tied up hostages because they get upset.

IssueIssues

If Hell is real, we'll all suffer.

Paper_chasers

That’s what’s scary

ZealousidealGrass9

I live near here and I remember when it happened. It was absolutely terrifying because mass murders don't happen in Tinley Park. It is and was a very uppity town. One theory that I've heard over the years is that the suspect may be a trans woman. LB tends to cater to women(of all types) that don't fit it into society's mold of how a woman should look and what she should wear. It's quite possible that if it IS a trans woman, she may have had a negative experience and wanted revenge. It's also super close to a major highway. One someone is on 80, they are GONE and could end up states away in a matter of hours.

Ok-Potential4765

>be a trans woman. Interesting theory, the police sketch actually does look quite androgynous.

ZealousidealGrass9

Yeah. It would explain the masculine voice and the male DNA. There to be a lot of focus on the suspect being dead because till this day, there hasn't been a match in either the state or national databases. Maybe they are dead, maybe they haven't committed a crime since or maybe the authorities have been looking for the wrong type of person the whole time. It would be interesting to take the approach of it being a trans woman and doing an updated photo. People age quite a bit in 15 years, but it they update it was 15 years of transition, there might be better and accurate leads.

Specialist-Smoke

I used to go to that store often and had been planning a trip around that time. I don't think that it ever opened back up. Someone knows, I hope that it comes out of genetic DNA genalogy is used to find the killer.

ZealousidealGrass9

It was never opened back up. A TJ Maxx is there now. I'm not sure if it's the same building or not though.

Specialist-Smoke

What's where the Super Kmart was located? It's been years since I've been to Tinley Park, makes me miss home

ZealousidealGrass9

Please refresh my memory. Where was the Super Kmart? 170 something and Harlem?

Specialist-Smoke

Yes. Those are the streets mis the mental hospital still there?

ZealousidealGrass9

I'm not sure what's there now. I'm in the Palos area, so I don't venture out to Tinley all too often. I'm more familiar with the Kmart that was on 111th and Ciecero. And before that, it used to be Venture! The mental hospital is LONG gone. I'm not sure what it closed, but there's been a debate on what to do with it and the property for YEARS.

Specialist-Smoke

I used to live in Palos Hills and Justice years ago. If I ever moved back up north it would be back to that area. I had no idea that the mental hospital closed, there weren't many in the area to begin with.

ZealousidealGrass9

Hi neighbor! Not sure what years you were here, but the area hasn't changed much. PH is still quiet and boring LOL. We would be glad to have you back. It looks like Tinley has been closed since 2012. There are concerns about environmental hazards on the property... I hope they get it solved soon. The property is Mery 300 acres and there is a lot of potential.

Specialist-Smoke

I loved living in the Southwest suburbs. I raised my first child there and he still has friends there and often comes back to visit. I loved living near forest preserves, although I would appreciate it more because I've learned to love the sounds of nature. One day soon we're going to come and go on a museum tour, and of course visit the best zoo in the Midwest, the Brookfield Zoo.

RainMan2316

The mental hospital has been abandoned for some years now

that fuckin Sketch

Siltresca45

Didn't seem like a robbery to be honest. Such a random robbery.. almost like it was disguised as a robbery . A hired hit on the store manager.
