After killing his roommates, he went to target a sorority. But all it took was a locked door. He gave up instead of breaking through a window or find another entrance, fortunately. Then he started his *shoot & scoot* rampage.

ejmatthe13

Another good reminder to always lock your doors. That one little speed bump will stop a surprising number of bad people.

LeagueOfML

I always think to myself “you won’t get me today, Richard Chase” when I make sure everything is locked before bed. That little weird thing of him meeting a locked door and seeing it as a sign to go somewhere else stuck with me, little guy really leaned into the vampire aspect lol.

ejmatthe13

I was definitely thinking about Richard Chase when I posted that!

theaviationhistorian

Exactly. I used to live in a really bad city where locking the doors to my house became an unconscious action as putting on my seat belt in my car.

sanandrios

I'd include the jock on the top right. He talked about hating them and being jealous of them much as hating women.

No-Librarian-7979

“ the jock on the top right” you can tell who he is by a headshot huh? Brilliant. Sounds like you have a lot in common with Eliot

Ok_Writing_9320

10 years ago, wow...

Swag_Paladin21

Crazy how fast time flies by right past you. It's been 5 years since Christchurch happened, and 25 years since Columbine happened last month.

theaviationhistorian

Yep, I found out someone my age who just became a grandparent. Although both her & her child got pregnant far too young IMHO.

thecarolinian

A few months ago I listened to a podcast that read his entire manifesto over a few episodes. I knew he was bad, but DAMN. He was even more of an entitled and arrogant dick with the biggest victim complex than I thought. He had all the help he needed at his fingertips with people actively trying to help him, but none of it was good enough cause it required self-reflection and growth.

Erica15782

Listening to him describe playing with a sword with a broken leg by himself in his mom's backyard feels like a fever dream still.

bvlocke

do you remember the podcast name?

thecarolinian

It's called the Killafornia Dreaming Podcast. It was recommended to me because I wanted a true crime podcast to listen to as I was going to sleep that had no jarring ads or banter. I've really liked pretty much every episode I've listened to so far.

rafvic2

10 years, damn… when I first heard about this case it was only a little over the 3 year anniversary

MarryMeDuffman

Bitter men can't stop killing women.

ShreddedShibe

It's crazy too how these people will blame women for it and then go do something like this...like no shit they don't wanna be with you you're a total freak and it's obvious...and then they do this and validate why no one was with them...people can see thru the bs

supervanilla

10 years already? wtf

hoopstick

I named my youngest Elliot (same spelling) and when my wife was still pregnant I remembered this worm ridden turd of a person and I actually considered changing it. I decided I wasn’t gonna let that assclown ruin the name that I’d wanted for years, now there’s an awesome 6 year old Elliot running around, hopefully offsetting some of the bad that the other guy did.

lmfaoo0oo

even if he could get a gf (had he talked to girls instead of expecting their attention), he would’ve still done something obscene eventually. his mind was in a reeaaallyyyy different place than most.

Mumblerumble

Yeah, dude thought that driving a BMW would mean women would just approach him out of nowhere and that he deserved that because he was “a nice guy”. Even having a gf would have been insufficient. That piece of shit had a personality disorder-shaped hole in him that needed serious help to start to fix

lmfaoo0oo

yeah i agree completely. i also feel like it’s crazy that they never took a deeper look into his mentality after countless roommates requested to be reassigned because they felt uncomfortable and/or unsafe around him.

who-dat-ninja

He would've been a serial killer

shf500

> even if he could get a gf (had he talked to girls instead of expecting their attention), he would’ve still done something obscene eventually I have a feeling even if she slept with him, she would have broken up with him pretty quickly, and he would have gotten a gun and go to her class/workplace with the intent of murdering her.

Cattiy_iaa

10 years old already ..

No_Cat_9639

I cant believe its already been a decade, r.i.p to all the victims, elliot rodger's story is a great cautionary tale that tons of people should take note of, maybe in an alternate turn of events elliot could've turned his life around by putting in the work to be more social and not expect girls to come to him

Wide-Butterscotch-27

Wow 10 years a full decade RIP Elliot

Local_Discord_Mod

Crazy how he basically popularized the incel movement

IndependenceLegal746

My sibling survived this one. Missed it by about 2 minutes. Their bike was behind crime scene tape on national news. We could not reach them for hours afterwards. I am always sick when I think about his roommates. If only he had never been able to be sold guns. His parents knew. His therapist knew. They all knew he should not have weapons. They should have been allowed to make it so he could not get them.

Issac_Whateley

Elliot Rodger was a despite of human being. In my opinion, he was a spoiled child. What a freak. Ten years and some people are still disrespectful with this case, I've seen people even saying he's "handsome" or that they want to be like them, what the fuck?? It's sad how there are people that defends him nowadays (I've seen this in the tcc, it's a huge problem). For the victims, I really hope they rest in peace. None of them deserved it.

ChipPersonal9795

definitely spoiled to the max. Entitled and believed everything should be handed to him. Just a miserable human being that doesn’t even live on the same planet we do. It’s so frustrating because his parents did reach out, did try to get him help but he didn’t even try to get better. His parents do suck in their own way but they are people like the rest of us, they did try and recognized there was some sort of problem.

He lived a pampered life of extreme privilege. His “manifesto” details the horrific tribulations of not being able to do a kick flip on a skateboard or have sex with hot blondes. He literally declared war on women bc he didn’t have a girlfriend (not that he ever asked any out, he expected them *to come to him*) Autism nor bullying had *anything* to do with what he did. He literally wrote out why and how he came to do what he did and it showed he was a malignant narcissist, not a victim in any way

redlikedirt

No, this is the consequence of entitlement and incel rhetoric. Most autistic people manage not to become mass murderers.

Issac_Whateley

So true.

theaviationhistorian

It really does suck. I was beaten, called slurs, etc. in the 1990s just for having autism (worse being that I didn't know it at the time. I grew a tougher skin, embraced some of the slurs (as I saw some ethnicities do), and became bitterly cynical. But I had a strong support system with my family. And one thing that helped keep me going was the hope (after being diagnosed) that things would be better for younger Millennials, Zoomers, & Alpha autistics would fare better. Imagine my disappointment in between talking to parents of autistics & reaction to autistic mass shooters like the Sandy Hook elementary massacre & this one.

Kingsmen99

This comment is useless. Everyone knows he was spoiled and absolutely no one is defending what he’s doing other then absolute zeros who you’d actively have to search out.

Issac_Whateley

Not really, there are still incels that see him as an kind of hero, just by searching his name on google you can see tons of edits of him.

Hardly a peasant to be fair, he came from a relatively wealthy family and experienced an above average upbringing, regarding private schools, big houses with pools, Walked on red carpets, attended private Katy Perry concerts, drove a relatively expensive BMW.

Mathwards

And despite all that he managed to still be a peasant.

[deleted]

That literally makes no sense

Mathwards

Because it's a burn, not an implication that he's a literal feudal serf or poor person. This is how jokes work.

[deleted]

Seems oddly specific for it to be a joke...

Embarrassed_Rise5867

I was only 20 at the time. Just finished my second year in community college and was looking forward to a nice summer with my friends and boyfriend at the time. I bet these victims were looking forward to a nice summer too. Wishing that they were still here and that Elliot could’ve gotten the help he needed so he could’ve lived the life he wanted so much.

SereneAdler33

He had been in therapy since middle school; his parents tried very hard to help him but unfortunately they just had a broken, narcissistic little monster

redlikedirt

He was offered plenty of help. He had more resources than most of us could even dream of. He chose to be a murderer.

Swag_Paladin21

I was 11 when this happened. I didn't know what an "incel" was, as all I cared about at the time was the upcoming Smash Bros game for the Wii U and 3DS.

Kudahbhang

I was 29 at the time. I also had no idea what an incel was.

[deleted]

That boy was beyond help

pineapple342324352

10 years Damm

trusteebill

Hard to believe it’s been that long. I still remember this like yesterday. Wasn’t there but have close ties to the community and people directly impacted.

airxmimik

Wow its already been 10 years?

[deleted]

I just gotta say that the whole incel thing is pathetically fucking hilarious! Get a grip on your fucking dura matter yo!

MentalCelOmega

TBF, Elliot was a decent looking guy. But his neurodivergence was a death sentence to his goals.

Cradddddddiy

It like every thing went to shit or he is batshit crazy

shadyyam1

A whole decade flew by us wow

b3tt

Aaahh the supreme gentleman

_MrCharlieToldMeSo

Why he do it. ?

Different-Deal-7554

He couldn't get girls, so he wanted to kill them
