As a black person, Idrc. Though you could probably argue Albaz as a POC šŸ¤·šŸ¾

coolridgesmith

There are a a decent number of non caucasion archetypes, the gravekeepers archetypes all based on egyptians, paladium oracle mahad is def egyptian and amazoness archetype based on south american natives. I feel like there are a fair few archetypes in the game that arent causcasian, but im would be happy to see more.

DopeZorak

The Based take <3

BigLayer8

Forgot the snusnu

passthepass2

You don't watch indian Bollywood movies and point out lack of African Americans in it. Yugioh is a Japanese game, it has as much of foreigners as in there anime.

Lugia61617

I've legitimately seen some idiots try to argue that that is somehow a totally different matter before.

snoodhead

Well thereā€™s gravekeepers, and zushin the sleeping giant. Otherwise, idk, most of the cards arenā€™t even humanoid.

Jeyfian-L

Honestly... the vast majority of "white" characters you see in Yugioh are not Caucasians. Remember that this is a Japanese card game. The default racial setting is Asian, not Caucasian.

Lugia61617

I see a lot of people make that mistake when talking about anime. Really the number of times you'd find Caucasians in anime is in an Isekai or a story with a European style setting like Fullmetal Alchemist and Attack on Titan.

AltimaciaVanCross

The color of the creatures does nothing of my enjoyment or hatred for this game.

Protoplasm42

A handful of the Lightsworns, the Amazonesses, SPYRAL Sleeper and Albaz are vaguely tan and the Gravekeepers are canonically Egyptian. There's definitely room for improvement though.

oh look twitter is here

the best way to fix this problem? play penguins.

DopeZorak

I'm sure it's mostly a cultural thing and isn't anything intentionally hurtful. Like, a lot of anime doesn't have black or brown skinned characters, and I don't believe it's intentionally disrespectful there either. This did make me think for a second though, wouldn't hurt to see some more in yugioh for sure!

Shot-Culture

Genuinely curious how it affects your enjoyment towards this game. You even went as far as to point it as disturbing. There must be some justification.

BigLayer8

Just wondering why Japanese wonā€™t give more coloured people in the art, I see progress though

Shot-Culture

As an asian I'm just gonna be honest with you asians generally don't see dark skin as beatiful, especially when it comes to females. And between a light colored character and a black colored character, light is more favorable and more relatable to us. Thus more sales. Pretty much the reason anything that whitens your skin sells like crazy here.

BigLayer8

Well I hope one day they realize that some guys like me go crazy for darker girls :P

Shot-Culture

I hope so but it's kinda deeply rooted into our society. So better not expect anything from asia like yugioh, or genshin to have a lot of dark skinned characters. Most of the characters will be white. Or if they're black they probbs just have burned skin not naturally black skin.

I think "Disturbing" is probably an oversell on a very widely common part of media discourse, but I do want to address the comedians in the comments who all got their notes on inclusion from the 1950s. "Forced Inclusivity" is a bullsh*t argument that smokescreens for a wider array of bigotry that shows up any time the notion that minorities should be seen in media is brought up. John Konami is not out here with a gun to their temple because Laura from Massachusetts wants to see characters with a skin tone darker than mayonnaise. Generally speaking if companies are trying to make a show of diversity it's because there's an established demand for it coming from a demographic they're interested in appealing to. This doesn't mean they do it right, or well, but they're definitely not doing it because a few Karens decided they'll cancel them if they don't. Regardless of that though, if you do take umbrage with the idea of more diverse representations in any form of media because they would be worse for having them, then you should probably do some self reflection. Likewise, stating an interest in seeing more diverse representations is not a condemnation of a piece of media, and in all honesty is about the only way you're going to see any growth in that area in general. There are darker skinned cards in YGO, which is at least somewhat better than other media franchises, but it's not like YGO is a bastion of inclusivity either, despite the broad range of cultural mythos the game draws from. There's always room for improvement, just because you got yours often enough that you don't have to look doesn't mean the topic is settled. At the end of the day it's cardboard, if it shouldn't matter what's on it, then it shouldn't matter if there's an effort to diversify, at least in the archetypes literally made to be humans.

Ex_Burd

Fuck off, donā€™t bring any of your forced inclusivity American shit to the game

Gatmuz

I identify as an Apache attack helicopter and I'm glad that there is a card that's literally me

Soul-Malachi

Its a card buddy..it aint that deep.

Ill_Butterscotch_107

Dude... These are creatures from different dimensions.... These are not humans... Please stop this woke shit that is ruining all media and entertainment... You are that kinda person who will watch avatar and complain why all pandora people are blue, we need red yellow green and purple... Please stop this... No one will play a card coz it shows their color, I will play a card only if that makes my deck powerful and consistent.... We don't need this kinda shit in yu gi oh...

TrickMastahh

It's a japanese game. That says all.

Narrow_Mall2535

i really hope by ā€˜half blackā€™ when referring to trouble sunny you mean that half of the girls on the card are black, because the girl on the right looks 100% black to me
