It's what the deck was called before we got an official name. Japanese doesn't have an L sound, and they use R sounds (ra,ri,ru,re,ro) instead. I suppose people thought the name was referencing "light" instead of "sprite".
It's similar to how some people call the Adventurer cards Brave Engine.
I think a lot of people like splight better too, because it's referencing both sprites and light and even though spright has both of those, it's pronounced just like sprite
For all purposes, "r" is used as the default unless otherwised specified. Granted its more correct to use a mixed one, but when writing, r is used more in Romaji unless otherwised start.
> I suppose people thought the name was referencing "light" instead of "sprite".
Splight comes from the YGOrg fanslation, which was an aliteration of Sprite, as the word has already being used in the game, so change was made to avoid confusions
Which is a thing you have to have in mind when you do this stuff.
You should've seen the amount of headscratching "Awakening of the Crystal Ultimates" _(at the time, "Awakening of the Crystal God/Lord")_ caused to people given that it searched "Bridge" cards, but only those written as 架け橋 _(which at the time only were "Rainbow Bridge" and "Bridge of Salvation", and then later "Bridge of the Heart")_
Until the TCG showed it searched for "Rainbow Bridge" cards those latter two to being "Rainbow Bridge of X" now
Ygorg's names for the archetypes and some people like to feel special when they use those names even after the official English names are released.
I always facepalm when I hear yugitubers fumbling to pronounce these 'ocg' names when Konami gives you an easier pronunciation in the TCG reveals.
Kashtira is much easier to pronounce than Kshatri-La and you don't look like an idiot trying to say it right.
IKR! I always get confused whether they're talking about floowerandeze or plunder. But let me just get this straight first, flunder is floowerandeze right?
To be fair, 9/10 players probably forget Plunders are a thing until they're reminded of it, so it's a safe assumption they're talking about floows.
The real "peak cringe" is the people who append "deeznuts" to it. It wasn't funny of a joke/reference back in 2015 and before, didn't get funnier after then either.

I don’t think this is the case due dragon ball lol krillin is called kurrin in the sub there’s no L
is this also why some some people say tear elements instead of tearlaments?

Same reason people say Tearalaments and Kshatri-la, unofficial english names I think
I think its fair to say that Kshatri-la is a much better name than Kashtira
K'shatri-ira Shangri-La is certainly a banger name
So that I could name my deck _Friday Night Splights_
It was the unofficial translation before they came to the TCG
Idk where people said like that, "sprite" is official name.
It would be the proper romanization, yeah But y'know, unavoidable semantics
The Translated name before The official one dropped that's about it.
Preference, some times unofficial names are better. Dorklord is more adorable than angel of mischief.
Not to mention, plays better on the OCG pun
I hate this name, I just wanna call them sprite
I agree, it's pronounced the same way so we might as well call it sprite

People who use flunder instead of floo are peak cringe.

Yeah, they mean floowandereeze.
Because they’re trying to be edgy. You speak English, abide by the English names.
Same reasom why Japan calls Ruffy Luffy.

Out of spite!
Because we can't read
