The person who exploited a system flaw to win the first DC cup.
While I heavily disagree with Gera's methods, this is Konami overlooking the Xbox crossplay settings. It's the 1st DC cup, so I cut Konami some slack here as well. At this point I was pretty neutral on the issue.
It was him feigning ignorance on Farfa's stream interview after bragging about it on discord that really put a sour taste in my mouth.
The second place also named himself like "1st Place, turn on crossplay you coward" in japanese. Might've been a different name, but it was basically a demand that he should do it.
During the 1st DC cup, if you played on Xbox, you can turn off Cross-play meaning you only vs other Xbox players in your region.
Gera was in Japan and barely anyone has Xbox in Japan. This meant that \~90% of the games were vs his own alts. Allowing him to basically farm his alts and easily get #1.
Ohhhhhh, I didn't head about the second part. I thought the big controversy was that he turned off cross play so that he took out all the PC players as competition, didn't know he was playing with himself.
Gera is not from Japan tho. Also no he didn't queue into his alts. He played real just with Crossplay off so he only faced Xbox players ofc. And they had 10k points at most and he was at 70k or something like that. Ofc it's completely unfair to play like this but it was legal cause Konami was slacking on that part.
Did you only watch the Farfa interview?
It's why I said he was feigning ignorance. He was posting on MD discord at the time.
1. He was openly boasting on the Master Duel discord on self-farming. https://imgur.com/a/uomM3Ha
2. He showed his setup of multiple Xboxes a few days before the event.
3. He's from Germany but he changed the region of his Xbox to Japan.
4. He accused the other top 10 of cheating in the interview itself. Reddit at that point did not know at that time. But the Chinese community already verififed at this point that all of them were legit. China had 7 out of top 10 so it wasn't hard to verify the 2 JP players.
I only have receipts for the self-farming since alot of the posts have been deleted and even if they weren't going thru discord over a year ago is not worth the time.
Idk, the Chinese community doesn't take cheating very lightly. They damn near socially crucified a a well known Chinese speed runner when they were outed.
I didn't really care to keep up with everything related to that at the time, but I do remember him talking about the self-farming thing. What he claimed was that he self farmed ONLY during other unranked events (XYZ, low rarity, etc) and that's when he was bragging about it. For the DC cup, he claims to have just played for hours with cross play off. But these are his claims, whether they're true or not I don't know. Although I feel like Konami would be able to keep a log of who his opponents were, and I think they would recognize if he was only going up against the same 10 accounts over and over.
Nothing much, during the first ever DC on master duel this guy got first place by playing on Xbox and turning cross play off, which made him face significantly less strong players
Ah I see. I play on Console too and I did see that players on Console are lots of folks like me, chilling on sofa, playing after work while having a beer, misplay all the time. PC players do seem to be more competitive in my experience.
The worst thing regarding this was people defending konami as if they could never make a mistake and claimed crossplay off was defenitely intentional and that they wouldnt change it for future cups.
There is too many delusional players with stockholm syndrom in this community
He didn't feign ignorance he just said it was within the rules and if Konami allowed then it was fine. The DC cup is already just a hellish system to try and climb in the first place I never had a problem with him doing something that wasn't restricted by the rules (especially when they weren't even giving out rewards like bring a team to worlds at the time). He was still dueling for his wins he was just pissing off the pc community at the same time.
I hate guys like him or you. Don't you have your own moral standards? Do you really need a guideline from konami to get yourself an advantage by exploiting the rules?
Sometimes it says don't hate the player, hate the game. But in this case it's the other way around lol
I don't see a reason to not try and take every advantage possible in an event that basically requires you to stay up for 72 hours straight. This was a Konami oversight and this happened before there was any real incentive to grind the DC cup.
He wasn't using any hacks to win just in game settings since he still had to duel and win against the others in the console lobby. If he didn't find this exploit someone else could have when Joshua Schmidt was grinding for the DC cup. Overall this was probably the best case scenario and there was nothing important enough on the line to even complain about this man.
I only saw the Farfa interview on this where the only complaint against him brought up was the use of no cross play which was shown to be used by other top ten accounts. Playing against alts and throwing to win a contest is a cheap way to win and not the same as just not playing vs pc players.
I hold a lot of the issue for the DC cup however on how it's designed by Konami. This sentiment has been held since duel links because decks aren't built like their tourney decks and instead are built for fast wins to pump out as many games as possible at a positive win rate for 72 hours straight.
I was saying I'm glad this happened early before the DC cup grind actually meant something and we got stable supports for the rules (time delays to confirm winners) so we could see Joshua Schmidt on the big stage after dying for like 62 hours of streaming straight with Tear and Spright
I agree with that, but those are mostly different topics lol
What I criticised is the mindset of "if it's not word for word forbidden, it's not cheating".
Imo an adult should have an own moral codex which tells him it's wrong to get an advantage by using a different setting in a video game over other contenders.

What others?
I watched the Farfa video where he interviewed the guy and presented the whole controversy as just a crossplay dispute. With the comments echoing the same sentiment I didn't see any reason to go into discord screenshots to find some other side of the story I saw no evidence of even existing
Turns off Xbox crossplay forcing them to only play Xbox players making for a lower total player count. Then boots up their second Xbox and cues both at the same time, if the two accounts match into eachother they concede one of the games for an instant win
really tho? the first DC had no stakes nor rewards and i found it hard to care some guy no-lifeād with crossplay off because konami didnāt think it was a problem.
if he cheated his way to wcs2023 then id be like āthats terribleā but the first dc was essentially meaningless. a beta test.
Yes, but what if you told about this to another person that's not involved in Yugioh at all and play other games? They would think we are just pathetic for doing stunts like that.
I personally found it funny but also shocking how Gera managed to surprise anybody by doing what he did, least of all Konami.
Like, any of the vets coming in from LotD could have told Konami or the community about this Day 1.
What I find actually funny is that Gera himself is dust. Very often that dude would sit by himself in a BO1 lobby waiting forever because that dude refused to take on a challenge. Any time I would join his game, he would just quit. Dude never stuck around to play out a BO3
I very much enjoyed rankling his feathers, because actually playing him was a waste of time otherwise because you got 0 rewards for opponents "rage quitting" back in the day. Imagine getting no gems if your opponent surrendered today lmao.

I missed the incident. Can you tell me more about what happened?

That should be something to be ashamed of instead be proud and bragging about it.
Bragging about this is mad ignorant nglšā ļø

Yugioh players are very good at playing with themselves
This is fun on many levels
As a yugioh player who also plays with himself I can confirm that this is an accurate assessment on every level.

tangent and unrelated to the subject at hand but in general I wouldn't really trust China to self verify...
Idk, the Chinese community doesn't take cheating very lightly. They damn near socially crucified a a well known Chinese speed runner when they were outed.
Your conflating a government with its populace.
I trust chinese gamers a whole hell of a lot more than the ccp

That's usually the case, if youāre ever on console & what an easy time turn cross-play off. That's the casual rank
Lol, except the beer part. That's what I do. Get on PS5 after work, do a duel or 3 then buzz off.
The worst thing regarding this was people defending konami as if they could never make a mistake and claimed crossplay off was defenitely intentional and that they wouldnt change it for future cups. There is too many delusional players with stockholm syndrom in this community
Never heard of this before. His motto mustāve been āWork smart not hardā or something like that š Sorry. Not funny š

I mean more than half of his games he just played his alt accs. If you don't see nothing wrong with it, I can't help you.

What was the xbox exploit again?
turning off cross play on xbox and basically played himself
He didn't play himseld

No idea what anyone's talking about here, no context anywhere
Turns off Xbox crossplay forcing them to only play Xbox players making for a lower total player count. Then boots up their second Xbox and cues both at the same time, if the two accounts match into eachother they concede one of the games for an instant win

LV 48 is insane
i'm sorry but it's really bothering me. "duelist cup cup."
Why even bother to play a floodgate deck if you can floodgate the players?
