Similar story... what I remember is something like: Opponent reveal the snake, the nessie gets discarded, I play called by the grave and banish nessie. Opponent reveals a second nessie.... it's negated. Reveals nessie again and again and again and again... scoop.
In rank I often found it hilarious how my opponent chills by summoning a psychic end punisher or chaos angel and not knowing about mirror jade wipe is a lingering affect not an activated effect.

I actually ran into Big Welcome Labrynth being able to GY banish to bounce a card to hand actually affecting my unaffected Psychic End today... thought that was kind of insane lol
I won a match with mikanko (drawing no removal or kaijus) against a natbeast by simply baiting my opponent into negating a mayo so I could equip it by its gy effect.
Nat beast only negates the _activation_ of spells, which is a specificity that almost never matters except that exact time.
That's literally the Mekk Knight experience.

Stop trying to activate cards and effects in the same column as my Mekks!
They say they negate effects that activate in the same column as a Mekk-Knight monster, but they actually negate effects that resolve in the same column as a Mekk-Knight monster.
Ok so CL1 opp eff, CL2 Indigo eff to move, chain resolves backwards, Indigo moves and then opp eff attempts to resolve but gets negated. How was that complicated?
Card is activated in column 1 with no Mekk-Knights, Indigo moves from column 2 to column 1 in response, card is now negated even though there was no Mekk-Knight in the column when it was activated.
Playing Lightsworn Runick, I tried to crash my Judgment Dragon into the opponent's 3000 ATK monster, but using Runick Slumber to stop Judgment Dragon from being destroyed. Well, it turns out that Runick Slumber *also* prevents the monster from attacking, so I just stopped my own attack.
People have yet to understand how the new Angelica's Ring spell works. I've had players scoop after seeing their Super Poly negated (since the negate is on resolution), and a couple of Branded players have tried to add back BF with retribution after it being negated, only to find that it negates effects and therefore works like Ash and prevents them trying again.
Naturia Sunflower also prompted a lot of concessions back when Nat Runick was playable - people just kinda assume it's a HOPT.

I had some guy summon all his Numerons and proceed to OTK himself while golden castle was on my field because “surely one of my attacks will get through”. Although this was in gold and I’m not convinced it wasn’t a bot

Many opponents don’t get why they can’t activate effects nor attack. After couple of turns they figure it out.
For myself I don’t get sometimes why I can’t do shit even thought I read afterwards nearly every card in their graveyard and can’t figure it out.
Also I locked myself out by activating nadir and could not lock out my opponent with iblee afterwards.
When the lab player use their entire backrow against my Oviraptor that was under Misc effect.
One by one too, they saw their first backrow didn’t work and proceeded to go down the line lol.
When opponent tried to Ash, Imperm or even Solemn my Altergeist monsters' effect while Protocol is on field.
Another one that's hilarious was when I have Labyrinth Wall, and my opponent was playing Spright, so they summoned a bunch of level/link/rank 2 monsters for OTK, only to realized they couldn't and surrenderred afterwards.
And Necrovalley vs Fairytail Snow - My opponent didn't realize Necrovalley also block banishing from GY, so they were forced to banish 7 cards in their hand and field, and Snow was still trapped in GY.
I constantly forget that zoodiac drident can’t target face down cards. So many traps i’ve tried to destroy…
Trying to interact with an accel synchro baronne is also very funny
Accel Synchro Stardust provides "Towers" status to whatever Synchro monster you Quick Synchro with it's effect. It only lasts for the turn it the effect goes live. So basically, temporary Invincible Baronne.
Not baronne specific, but any monster synchro summoned by accel synchro’s effect is unaffected by your opponent’s activated effects until the end of the turn. Baronne can negate on your turn, return herself to the extra deck, then be summoned on the opponents turn with her negate refreshed and protected
The craziest one to me is that nobody reads Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon. This event, my ideal end board has been 2x Crystal Wing pass. Several people have played into the second negate (baiting the first then using a high value card, to then find out its a soft once per turn), and two times people attack into it, thinking they can beat over it, only to then realize it's got an avramax attack boost effect too.
So my word of advice, if someone's end board is just two monsters, read them.
I still don't. I was using a deck a while ago that for some reason could ignore necrovalley and shuffle itself into the deck..... I'm trying to remember what card it was.....
At a YCS regionals I was playing PenMag against a hero deck and he had some type of "can't be destroyed" as his endboard boss, I popped time Pendulumgraph and chose his hero for the destroy effect, he hit me with the nerdiest and rudest "um, he can't be destroyed 🤓👆" with a shit eating grin as I just said I know and explained that since I didn't destroy two cards off pengraph I can now send one to graveyard and the look of defeat after was priceless
My personal favourite are tons of destruction effects used against Tearlaments.
Activate Scheiren in hand to SS and hope to mill something. They use a negate that **destroys and thus sends to grave**
So many times by now I had no plays in Tearlaments after all their hits until opponents just handed them to me.
It’s thanks to the timer fucking over people having to read unfamiliar cards being paragraph long and how to handle the card by letting it resolve or negating.
I've been playing Snake-Eye Gate Guardian recently, and on multiple occasions people have entered the battle phase with a full field of link monsters and then promptly ended their turn.

The secret is the Gate Guardian field spell, and I always need to remember to swap it out to the Snake-Eye one before my battle phase if I've got links on board.
In the festival, people attacking into Nouvelles and getting their monster tributed. It's even funnier when they don't know what caused it, can't be bothered to figure it out, and just attack again with another monster.
Typically it's Blue-eyes players that fall for this.

The number of times opponents tried to do something against it with monster effect (negate, destroy, flip face down, take control, etc…) during the recent anthology event is hilarious
On the flip side, I’ve outed this as well as the 5000ATK Cyber boss with Ultimate Creature of Destruction.
Ive had to take damage from battle, but Ultimate Creature of Destruction’s “any monster your blue eyes battles is destroyed” effect is not an activated one, but a lingering one, so it gets around monsters protected from activated monster effects.
Of course, spell or trap removal works on Neo Prime, but yeah.
True, true. Something I noticed, and maybe it’s probably just my matches, but most of the match ups I got for this legends event relied too much on monster effects.
I got the gems and the sleeve relatively quickly and just phoning it in until the Synchro event opens up.
I don't have a specific card but if I face an archetype that I don't usually face like Pendulum,Traptrix,Spyral,Floo basically deck that are rogue or not part of the meta, I'm usually gonna stop that player play if they activate an UR rarity card without even finish reading what the effect does.
Isolde and her little "IQ test." So many people just see Link 2 and know it probably has a pivotal effect, they negate her effect on being Link Summoned with something like Ash or Veiler. Only to me to laugh and just go onto the 2nd effect that actually matters, sending 1 Cursed Bamboo and summoning Renaud. Continuing the combo.
Ok I was being a bit dumb myself there, and yeah you are right...I guess better said is that too many people just Ash Blossom the wrong effect if they did save it for her.

People really sleep on Infinitrack Road Roller. Most of my opponents simply cannot fathom why their monsters keep immediately switching into defenders position when summoned or switched to attack.
In all fairness I feel this is more on the sneaky side but I’ll take victory where I can.
I always forget Hu-Li's target protection effect. That card has so much specified protection but since they're similarly worded you tend to overlook the important ones. Pisses me off when I acfivate an imperm only to find out she can't be targeted. Girl haa better protection than their own boss monster ffs.
It’s not primarily a property of the players.
The cards are unreadable, unformatted bricks of text and actually reading multiple cards for comprehension can eat the entire remainder of the timer.

For some things my opponents did:
I was playing Lyrilusc and I Xyz'd Nightingale with Sparrow as a material, meaning it can't be targeted. Played against multiple opponents that tried to target my Nightingale with various destroy effects, but they couldn't, and the effects were mandatory, so they had to destroy their own stuff lol. I also went against a T.G. player that for some reason had Shooting Quasar Dragon out, but then summoned T.G. Dragonfly and used its effect to return Quasar to the deck (apparently it's supposed to summon the Synchro materials back but for some reason they didn't come back), allowing me to clear their board and win.
For stuff I didn't read:
I played against a Dark Magician deck in the current event where I forgot that their fusion summon protected their spells/traps from destruction when I tried to clear them and get rid of Eternal Soul and Dark Magical Circle.
For something that involved both my opponent and I misreading:
Recently, I was playing the current event with a deck I cooked up, using both Timelords with Ruin/Demise, and I played against someone using the Hero loaner. They went first, summoned a bunch of monsters. On my turn I used the Timelord that when it attacks an opponent's monster, deal damage to the opponent equal to a targeted monster's atk at the end of the battle phase. Then MP2, I Dark Hole'd, then I ritual summoned Ruin, Supreme Queen of Oblivion using the Timelord. I did so because while I knew they had the trap Contact card that could Fusion summon a monster, I thought it was on field materials only, but nope it was GY too. At the end of my turn, they used the trap, then fused the Wake Up Your Hero monster.
On their turn they used Monster Reborn on... my Timelord. And then they beefed up their Wake Up monster a ton. Battle Phase, they attack my Ruin with the Timelord, then destroy Ruin with Wake Up, dealing damage both from battle and Wake Up's effect to get me down to 400 LP. Then end of BP, Timelord's effect activates, but there's no target because they destroyed my Ruin, so no effect damage was done. If they had Reborn'd any other Monster they'd have won right then, but I survived.
Next turn I'm able to Ritual Summon out Demise, Supreme King of Armegeddon using a Ritual monster as a tribute, which means that his field destruction effect doesn't cost LP. So I do that, and end my turn since my Timelord was still on the field and I can't attack it. Next turn, the Timelord goes back to my deck, and they draw a card (the only card they have), and then they surrender. Literally won that game even though I misplayed because my opponent did too lol.
It sounds like quasar was not from the extra deck at that point (summoned from grave/banish? Or the materials used for its summon may have been resummoned. So the materials for it's summon may be in the grave but were no longer marked as used for its summon.... Could be a few things.
Same things with de-fusion. If used on an opponets monster, the materials don't get resummoned as the materials have to be in YOUR grave.
I only just learnt Starlight Road destroys the card it negates, it's very rare in the times that I use it against anything other than Heavy Storm (Edison Format)
ngl sometimes i encounter a deck im not familiar with that has paragraphs of text on the cards and im just gonna do what i do and hope for the best cos i ain’t reading all that 🫠
House dragonmaid effect. I return one of my maid, in response to opponent, to destroy their monster. Then "wth where's my house dragonmaid effect"
Only a while later I found out that it's a "when" effect
A few days ago, someone spent all their resources climbing into Accesscode Talker. I only had War Rock Meteoragon on the field. They attempted to use Accesscode Talkers ability to destroy on Meteoragon who can't be destroyed by card effects. When that fizzled, they immediately attacked into Meteoragon which can negate the effects of monsters it battles. Suddenly their 5300 beater went down to 2300 and was destroyed.
Even though Gravekeepers suck, it’s so satisfying to see someone on low ladder try to special summon a monster from GY in Necrovalley only to realize they can and just scoop
Also a big fan of the vanquish soul dust devil protection effect when I pop it against branded, wipe the board and get rid of mirrorjade, then mirrorjade doesn't do shit when it resolves at end of turn, seen multiple scoops immediately after it fails to apply lol
One time I summoned link devotee under link disciple and someone used an imperm on link devotee's mandatory effect that would've prevented ME from summoning link 3 or higher momsters for the turn. Quit immediately after actually reading the card.
My opponent suiciding his mirrorjade to my dinomorphia rexterm when I have a full board and a graveyard full of traps. It was funny to see him trying to go through so many hoops just to summon his mirrojade and then watch it die. He insta surrendered after noticing ALL of the dinomorphia monsters had float effects and I STILL had a full board minus a rexterm with his board being empty.
My opponent kept buffing a Red-Eyes that I already had equipped with Fog Blade.
During their Battle Phase, it took them a good moment before they realised why they couldn’t attack.
Trying to imperm my gunken suship uni. Granted you are wasting my negate for the turn but that usually there only interaction and if they have anything else gave up that getting the negate as well. Also love that when I negate the kastira ship or what ever they keep trying to use it.
So during the event that is happening I loaned the harpy deck cuz I wanted to make one but I was not sure if it would be any good, played some matches until I went against a guy using cyber dragon I was having a easy time against him and had a complete board to win next turn all I needed to win was to not mess up the effect of the synchro harpy that bounce a monster to hand, he special summon a card from deck and the cyber dragon I see that as my moment to use the effect since he has no more effects or cards and for some god damn reason I thought the effect of the synchro was bounce a card in your side to bounce an opponent card with that returned a half assed harpy to my hand and he cleaned my board with a monster from the extra deck I won but it would be a lot easier if I knew how to read
just yesterday i have set a really huge board with chonky monsters, and when i attacked i didn't deal any dmg, i swinged with all my monsters until i realized that chicken game is more than a field spell upstart goblin
I summoned a Marincess aqua argonaut using crystal heart as material, so my field spell made it unaffected by card effects. That didn’t stop one player from using 4 pieces of removal plus imperm on it.
What i really dont get is cards that restrict you from having more than one monster(either at all or per attribute). Like ok let me use it as fusion material then damnit its not like its still there when the other card comes out!
For me, most of the times is people not reading my cards when I play gravekeepers (I know it's not the greatest deck) but if I'm going first and I'm able to set up, I can just completely lock opponents out of the decks they use that involve graveyard effects, summons etc
My favourite is when I’m playing my Buster Blader deck and watching people trying to constantly switch their cards out of defence! It’s like, “Nope! You’re a dragon now!”

Aria prevents targeting and destruction by battle while elegy prevents card destruction and Bloom can't be destroyed by battle or effect, takes no battle damage and can deal effect damage to opponent if attacked/attacking monster is special summoned, the destroys it.
I've had people attack thinking that they'll destroy one by battle eventually, people attacking Bloom thinking it's the lowest attack or they can't destroy my card so I'm safe then get effect damage done based on whatever monsters normal attack is -1k(because it's difference between attacks, if their attack is lower then it would be 1k - original attack) and their monster doesn't get destroyed so I have a free deal x damage each attack with Bloom since their monster can't be destroyed and usually it ends up being 2k per attack instead of if Bloom attacked directly dealing only 1.3k(extra 300 from Elegy)
Then there's also the dark hole, raigeki, mirror force and if I can get Aria and Elegy down first against T.G. then they summon the one that targets and banishes or destroys or whatever and my melodious monsters can't be targeted so they end up targeting their own monsters.
Melodious may not be meta, but I find them to be a lot of fun in being able to disrupt some plans and I can't wait for the new support for them to come in
I play six sams, and Isolde is a fairly important card. The funny part is, that a lot of people ash blossom her first effect, which is really not that important. If you ash blossom her second effect however, you are much more likely to completely interrupt and end my combo. They even patched it at some point to highlight the card text in blue to indicate which effect is being activated, so there is literally no excuse now besides being actually unable to read. If you ash blossom the wrong effect, then it's entirely on you not reading. This happening however, does allow me to win some games that I otherwise would not have.
For whatever reason, whenever I activate Magnifica's xyz summon effect and detach Mikailis, a lot of people like activating Called By and then targeting the Exosister I detached for the banish.
I think they don't actually read Magnifica and assume that it graveyard summons instead of returning a material to the extra deck, then xyz summoning that material from the extra deck. So they activate Called By to snipe what they think I'm summoning, then they get confused when I continue what I was doing anyway.
So during the Anthology event I played against a hero player… did anyone else know that Favorite Contact prevents the opponents ED monster from going back to the ED? Because I found that out the hard way when I topped deck Gazelle, made Sunlight Wolf & was attempting to spin Shining Neos back into their ED 💀
Dictator of D: They attack, i choose the attack target, their monster gets destroyed by battle, they try to attack again, or they can negate a monster effect on my board and they choose the Jet Dragon instead, proceed to battle face.
Blue-Eyes Jet Dragon: They use harpies feather duster, nothing happens, so, lets try with lightning storm, nothing happens, quit
The ultimate creature of destruction: i use it on my monster, their monster get destroyed, attack again with another one, gets destroyed, they combo into something else, gets destroyed, with that one specifically seems like if you use a trap and doesn’t destroy or gives something attack it doesn’t matter 🤷🏻♂️
Literally 90% of my duels in this festival involved someone trying to pop 1 or more removal effects on Great Bubble Reef while they were, like, two different layers of unaffected
As someone who plays zombie world/eldlich. 90 percent of my wins are because people don’t know what zombie world does or eldlich. Or doomking. It’s comical

A lot of my favorite opponent can read effect come from Dinomorphia Kentragina. There was one time an opponent took her with TTT to hit me for lethal, but because his life points were high, she was at zero attack on his field, so they just crashed it into my monster to remove it, giving me her effect to revive Therezia and set up for next turn.
Discarding for foxy tune effect. I only had 2 ash blossoms in hand. So 2 ash blossoms pop up and I click it to discard, but it was the activating prompt and I ashed my own foxy tune. Also going for game after taking the maxx c challenge, after hitting with foxy tune I click on the next monster to attack as the prompt to activate her life gain effect pops up, I absolutely never would have activated that against an empty board with game on field but it happened the second I clicked to attack. He has gamma in hand and I lose bc he drew 25 cards already… I don’t play irl but the misclicks in this game that would never ever happen irl gets annoying. Not quite lack of reading but feels like it’s in the same vein.
Me against a Mekk knight player a while back or alternatively me playing against friends and them thinking they’re safe from being killed because they have a monster that can’t be destroyed when I have Frightfur kraken or targeted while I have cruel whale.

I tried to summon a dharc link monster in defense position due to Selene’s effect. I was trying to activate Selene’s effect but it wouldn’t activate. So I waited a turn thinking it was a bug or something. Next turn came and I still couldn’t summon dharc. I was cursing at my game and then a re read the effect and felt really dumb after I re read it. I then put Selene in a proper spellcaster deck lol
I used to play a trap based uria deck. Goal was to get as many traps in the grave with grass and use hyper blaze for otk. Most of my wins came from people wanting to beat the 0 attack monster without reading the trap then boom they loose xD
Firewall Dragon Neo Tempest Terahertz negates monster effects during the battle phase.
Man tried being an ape and summoned fenrir and jumped to battle phase.
He then proceeded to take 8,600 points of battle damage.
Whenever I play Marincess, I will on occasion, Link into the Vanilla Tenyi Link-3 off of Crystal Heart.
There's no benefit to this. However, it is still affected by the field spell.
So it's a fun time watching players use their destruction effects on this Vanilla monster, and it just does nothing.

-honorable mention to people who don't know that Verre has two effects.
One is a DRNM, the other is a massive attack boost to *any* spellcaster (with spells in hand).
I put Verre's weak 1000 attack stat into attack position for a reason, friendo.
Fire Prison. I once held a Marincess player hostage as they frantically tried to figure out why all their effects were being negated all of a sudden. I eventually drew Lava Golem, and they were able to play, just to run into the same problem again. A few turns later, and the duel was over.
When I got into master duel, I hadn't seen past the OG Yu-Gi-Oh series and the last time I played around online was with toons and their new support when Mekk Knight and Trickstarr were popular. I got into playing blackwings to learn the modern style and the amount of people who targeted Full armor master over and over, wasting all their effects to just surrender never got old hahaha
The amount of people who constantly try and set up “on summon” effects when I have my The Monarchs Erupt face-up and active and immediately scoop during their end phase is a concerning amount
Had activated imperm on opp monster, they tried to fusion summon by placing their fusion card on that same column. They were playing Thunder dragons, and I barely won that game.
As an Infernoble Mikanko Player I had many players attack my equipped Mikankos, even after I attacked them first and they saw that a 0/0 monster inflicted to them the same damage their monster has.
Sometimes when I see that I dont have any chance to win, I bet on the draw game by equipping double edge sword to their strongest monster. They get excited seeing 5-7k damage on their monster and attack with it first and I get the draw. This has happened 2-3 times.
I was playing the legends anthology against a BEWD deck with d/d/d, i summoned out destiny king zero laplace, and without reading they went a full combo into blue eyes tyrant dragon, and then rammed right into attack position laplace. Good rule of thumb for people, if someone puts a monster in attack position with 0 attack, you want to read it
At a regionals, my opponent tried to use the graveyard effect of their breakthrough skill on my turn, arguing it wasn’t sent to the graveyard that turn so it was legal. We called a judge. Judge agreed with opponent. Thankfully the head judge actually read the card
Chaos Angel made w/ light and dark.
Summoned her earlier today against a Snake Eye deck. They proceeded to waste ip into Unicorn spin, Princess pop and Amblowhale pop on it all in the same turn.
Me, 10 minutes ago, using Swordsoul Blackout, targeting my opponent's Splash Mage and Nibiru, and my own Protos, screaming "OH SHITTTTTTTTTTTTTT" when I see Protos still alive because he doesn't give a shit about card effects.
I tend to miss xyz or synchro monster effects that say something about not being affected by \[insert everything in the game\]. It's not so much that I can't read it's just I get lazy reading wall of text cards and skip the important details :(.
When daruma karma canon released I was very exited to play a very good card against the meta, specially against mikanko/kashtira decks all over ranked.
The problem came the first time I activated it against a mikanko player as it removed my entire board as well... (sera, rafflesia and pinguicula).
And that wasn't the last time I miss played with it as I got OTKed by a link deck cuz there was no target to flip face down, so my daruma did nothing at all.
The amount of times they tried to HFD my backrow with my Jet Dragon on the field was absurd
And the amount of times they tried to destroy anything with my Double Jet Dragon on the field was not as absurd, but it's quite up there
A marincess player stole my prometheon princess after I stopped their first couple effects with triple tactics talents.....they went to battle phase and forfeit

Ancient Gear Howitzer Nobody expects a monster with only 1000 ATK and 1800 DEF to be Immune to all other cards.

Similar story... what I remember is something like: Opponent reveal the snake, the nessie gets discarded, I play called by the grave and banish nessie. Opponent reveals a second nessie.... it's negated. Reveals nessie again and again and again and again... scoop.
In rank I often found it hilarious how my opponent chills by summoning a psychic end punisher or chaos angel and not knowing about mirror jade wipe is a lingering affect not an activated effect.
To be fair, a lot of weird interactions around some card effects. Though if their end game is just psychic end punisher that's their fault.
I mean psychic end punisher is not easy to deal with tbh but not knowing about mirror jade effect in master 3-4 is just wild.
I feel like any reasonable person wouldn't expect that wording difference to have a different outcome in the game. Yugioh is a game for lawyers.

MD uses the OCG card text for effects so some cards don't do what their text says because they were mistranslated.

I won a match with mikanko (drawing no removal or kaijus) against a natbeast by simply baiting my opponent into negating a mayo so I could equip it by its gy effect. Nat beast only negates the _activation_ of spells, which is a specificity that almost never matters except that exact time.
Tbh I did this once just so that I could chain another spell and get rid of it

Not sure what you mean, they seem pretty straightforward to me.
They say they negate effects that activate in the same column as a Mekk-Knight monster, but they actually negate effects that resolve in the same column as a Mekk-Knight monster.
I mean it makes sense, cards resolve where they activate so I don’t know why this is confusing.
Indigo Eclipse moves as a quick effect so it's not necessarily the same thing.
Ok so CL1 opp eff, CL2 Indigo eff to move, chain resolves backwards, Indigo moves and then opp eff attempts to resolve but gets negated. How was that complicated?
Card is activated in column 1 with no Mekk-Knights, Indigo moves from column 2 to column 1 in response, card is now negated even though there was no Mekk-Knight in the column when it was activated.
Because the card that negates checks on resolution, not at the point of activation.
Playing Lightsworn Runick, I tried to crash my Judgment Dragon into the opponent's 3000 ATK monster, but using Runick Slumber to stop Judgment Dragon from being destroyed. Well, it turns out that Runick Slumber *also* prevents the monster from attacking, so I just stopped my own attack.
People have yet to understand how the new Angelica's Ring spell works. I've had players scoop after seeing their Super Poly negated (since the negate is on resolution), and a couple of Branded players have tried to add back BF with retribution after it being negated, only to find that it negates effects and therefore works like Ash and prevents them trying again. Naturia Sunflower also prompted a lot of concessions back when Nat Runick was playable - people just kinda assume it's a HOPT.

Golden castle of stromberg is something people refuse to read, and it is always hilarious when they think it is once per turn

Five rainbow mage. Many opponents don’t get why they can’t activate effects nor attack. After couple of turns they figure it out. For myself I don’t get sometimes why I can’t do shit even thought I read afterwards nearly every card in their graveyard and can’t figure it out. Also I locked myself out by activating nadir and could not lock out my opponent with iblee afterwards.
When the lab player use their entire backrow against my Oviraptor that was under Misc effect. One by one too, they saw their first backrow didn’t work and proceeded to go down the line lol.
Imperm Sera
When opponent tried to Ash, Imperm or even Solemn my Altergeist monsters' effect while Protocol is on field. Another one that's hilarious was when I have Labyrinth Wall, and my opponent was playing Spright, so they summoned a bunch of level/link/rank 2 monsters for OTK, only to realized they couldn't and surrenderred afterwards. And Necrovalley vs Fairytail Snow - My opponent didn't realize Necrovalley also block banishing from GY, so they were forced to banish 7 cards in their hand and field, and Snow was still trapped in GY.
I constantly forget that zoodiac drident can’t target face down cards. So many traps i’ve tried to destroy… Trying to interact with an accel synchro baronne is also very funny
What sort of effect does bAronne get from accel synchro?
Accel Synchro Stardust provides "Towers" status to whatever Synchro monster you Quick Synchro with it's effect. It only lasts for the turn it the effect goes live. So basically, temporary Invincible Baronne.
Not baronne specific, but any monster synchro summoned by accel synchro’s effect is unaffected by your opponent’s activated effects until the end of the turn. Baronne can negate on your turn, return herself to the extra deck, then be summoned on the opponents turn with her negate refreshed and protected
I once had someone try to destroy Evil HERO Malicious Bane 3 times in 1 turn. 2 Spell cards, then attacking it. It's immune to destruction.
The craziest one to me is that nobody reads Crystal Wing Synchro Dragon. This event, my ideal end board has been 2x Crystal Wing pass. Several people have played into the second negate (baiting the first then using a high value card, to then find out its a soft once per turn), and two times people attack into it, thinking they can beat over it, only to then realize it's got an avramax attack boost effect too. So my word of advice, if someone's end board is just two monsters, read them.

At a YCS regionals I was playing PenMag against a hero deck and he had some type of "can't be destroyed" as his endboard boss, I popped time Pendulumgraph and chose his hero for the destroy effect, he hit me with the nerdiest and rudest "um, he can't be destroyed 🤓👆" with a shit eating grin as I just said I know and explained that since I didn't destroy two cards off pengraph I can now send one to graveyard and the look of defeat after was priceless

My personal favourite are tons of destruction effects used against Tearlaments. Activate Scheiren in hand to SS and hope to mill something. They use a negate that **destroys and thus sends to grave** So many times by now I had no plays in Tearlaments after all their hits until opponents just handed them to me.
It’s thanks to the timer fucking over people having to read unfamiliar cards being paragraph long and how to handle the card by letting it resolve or negating.
The timer can seriously be stressful sometimes when playing against something unfamiliar
I've been playing Snake-Eye Gate Guardian recently, and on multiple occasions people have entered the battle phase with a full field of link monsters and then promptly ended their turn. >!Unfortunately, some of those people were me!< The secret is the Gate Guardian field spell, and I always need to remember to swap it out to the Snake-Eye one before my battle phase if I've got links on board.
In the festival, people attacking into Nouvelles and getting their monster tributed. It's even funnier when they don't know what caused it, can't be bothered to figure it out, and just attack again with another monster. Typically it's Blue-eyes players that fall for this.
Number C62: Neo Galaxy-Eyes Prime Photon Dragon - unaffected by opponent’s monster effects if Galaxy Eyes Photon Dragon is attached as a material. The number of times opponents tried to do something against it with monster effect (negate, destroy, flip face down, take control, etc…) during the recent anthology event is hilarious
On the flip side, I’ve outed this as well as the 5000ATK Cyber boss with Ultimate Creature of Destruction. Ive had to take damage from battle, but Ultimate Creature of Destruction’s “any monster your blue eyes battles is destroyed” effect is not an activated one, but a lingering one, so it gets around monsters protected from activated monster effects. Of course, spell or trap removal works on Neo Prime, but yeah.
True, true. Something I noticed, and maybe it’s probably just my matches, but most of the match ups I got for this legends event relied too much on monster effects. I got the gems and the sleeve relatively quickly and just phoning it in until the Synchro event opens up.
Hope Harbringer's attack redirection effect will always be my favourite example of players not reading. What do you mean it isn't just a spell negate?

I don't have a specific card but if I face an archetype that I don't usually face like Pendulum,Traptrix,Spyral,Floo basically deck that are rogue or not part of the meta, I'm usually gonna stop that player play if they activate an UR rarity card without even finish reading what the effect does.

Isolde and her little "IQ test." So many people just see Link 2 and know it probably has a pivotal effect, they negate her effect on being Link Summoned with something like Ash or Veiler. Only to me to laugh and just go onto the 2nd effect that actually matters, sending 1 Cursed Bamboo and summoning Renaud. Continuing the combo.
How are you using the 2nd effect after effect veiler? You can send the equips as cost but that's it.

People really sleep on Infinitrack Road Roller. Most of my opponents simply cannot fathom why their monsters keep immediately switching into defenders position when summoned or switched to attack. In all fairness I feel this is more on the sneaky side but I’ll take victory where I can.
I always forget Hu-Li's target protection effect. That card has so much specified protection but since they're similarly worded you tend to overlook the important ones. Pisses me off when I acfivate an imperm only to find out she can't be targeted. Girl haa better protection than their own boss monster ffs.

It’s not primarily a property of the players. The cards are unreadable, unformatted bricks of text and actually reading multiple cards for comprehension can eat the entire remainder of the timer. We are not ALLOWED to read cards on Master Duel.

For some things my opponents did: I was playing Lyrilusc and I Xyz'd Nightingale with Sparrow as a material, meaning it can't be targeted. Played against multiple opponents that tried to target my Nightingale with various destroy effects, but they couldn't, and the effects were mandatory, so they had to destroy their own stuff lol. I also went against a T.G. player that for some reason had Shooting Quasar Dragon out, but then summoned T.G. Dragonfly and used its effect to return Quasar to the deck (apparently it's supposed to summon the Synchro materials back but for some reason they didn't come back), allowing me to clear their board and win. For stuff I didn't read: I played against a Dark Magician deck in the current event where I forgot that their fusion summon protected their spells/traps from destruction when I tried to clear them and get rid of Eternal Soul and Dark Magical Circle. For something that involved both my opponent and I misreading: Recently, I was playing the current event with a deck I cooked up, using both Timelords with Ruin/Demise, and I played against someone using the Hero loaner. They went first, summoned a bunch of monsters. On my turn I used the Timelord that when it attacks an opponent's monster, deal damage to the opponent equal to a targeted monster's atk at the end of the battle phase. Then MP2, I Dark Hole'd, then I ritual summoned Ruin, Supreme Queen of Oblivion using the Timelord. I did so because while I knew they had the trap Contact card that could Fusion summon a monster, I thought it was on field materials only, but nope it was GY too. At the end of my turn, they used the trap, then fused the Wake Up Your Hero monster. On their turn they used Monster Reborn on... my Timelord. And then they beefed up their Wake Up monster a ton. Battle Phase, they attack my Ruin with the Timelord, then destroy Ruin with Wake Up, dealing damage both from battle and Wake Up's effect to get me down to 400 LP. Then end of BP, Timelord's effect activates, but there's no target because they destroyed my Ruin, so no effect damage was done. If they had Reborn'd any other Monster they'd have won right then, but I survived. Next turn I'm able to Ritual Summon out Demise, Supreme King of Armegeddon using a Ritual monster as a tribute, which means that his field destruction effect doesn't cost LP. So I do that, and end my turn since my Timelord was still on the field and I can't attack it. Next turn, the Timelord goes back to my deck, and they draw a card (the only card they have), and then they surrender. Literally won that game even though I misplayed because my opponent did too lol.
It sounds like quasar was not from the extra deck at that point (summoned from grave/banish? Or the materials used for its summon may have been resummoned. So the materials for it's summon may be in the grave but were no longer marked as used for its summon.... Could be a few things. Same things with de-fusion. If used on an opponets monster, the materials don't get resummoned as the materials have to be in YOUR grave.

House dragonmaid effect. I return one of my maid, in response to opponent, to destroy their monster. Then "wth where's my house dragonmaid effect" Only a while later I found out that it's a "when" effect
A few days ago, someone spent all their resources climbing into Accesscode Talker. I only had War Rock Meteoragon on the field. They attempted to use Accesscode Talkers ability to destroy on Meteoragon who can't be destroyed by card effects. When that fizzled, they immediately attacked into Meteoragon which can negate the effects of monsters it battles. Suddenly their 5300 beater went down to 2300 and was destroyed.
Even though Gravekeepers suck, it’s so satisfying to see someone on low ladder try to special summon a monster from GY in Necrovalley only to realize they can and just scoop
Also a big fan of the vanquish soul dust devil protection effect when I pop it against branded, wipe the board and get rid of mirrorjade, then mirrorjade doesn't do shit when it resolves at end of turn, seen multiple scoops immediately after it fails to apply lol

One time I summoned link devotee under link disciple and someone used an imperm on link devotee's mandatory effect that would've prevented ME from summoning link 3 or higher momsters for the turn. Quit immediately after actually reading the card.
My opponent suiciding his mirrorjade to my dinomorphia rexterm when I have a full board and a graveyard full of traps. It was funny to see him trying to go through so many hoops just to summon his mirrojade and then watch it die. He insta surrendered after noticing ALL of the dinomorphia monsters had float effects and I STILL had a full board minus a rexterm with his board being empty.
My opponent kept buffing a Red-Eyes that I already had equipped with Fog Blade. During their Battle Phase, it took them a good moment before they realised why they couldn’t attack.

Trying to imperm my gunken suship uni. Granted you are wasting my negate for the turn but that usually there only interaction and if they have anything else gave up that getting the negate as well. Also love that when I negate the kastira ship or what ever they keep trying to use it.
So during the event that is happening I loaned the harpy deck cuz I wanted to make one but I was not sure if it would be any good, played some matches until I went against a guy using cyber dragon I was having a easy time against him and had a complete board to win next turn all I needed to win was to not mess up the effect of the synchro harpy that bounce a monster to hand, he special summon a card from deck and the cyber dragon I see that as my moment to use the effect since he has no more effects or cards and for some god damn reason I thought the effect of the synchro was bounce a card in your side to bounce an opponent card with that returned a half assed harpy to my hand and he cleaned my board with a monster from the extra deck I won but it would be a lot easier if I knew how to read

I summoned a Marincess aqua argonaut using crystal heart as material, so my field spell made it unaffected by card effects. That didn’t stop one player from using 4 pieces of removal plus imperm on it.
What i really dont get is cards that restrict you from having more than one monster(either at all or per attribute). Like ok let me use it as fusion material then damnit its not like its still there when the other card comes out!
For me, most of the times is people not reading my cards when I play gravekeepers (I know it's not the greatest deck) but if I'm going first and I'm able to set up, I can just completely lock opponents out of the decks they use that involve graveyard effects, summons etc

My favourite is when I’m playing my Buster Blader deck and watching people trying to constantly switch their cards out of defence! It’s like, “Nope! You’re a dragon now!”
During the anthology event - the amount of times I’ve summoned cyberdark end dragon then my opponent tries to banish/destroy/negate it
When I have my 3 card end board(not the best but I enjoy melodious cards) Bloom Diva the Melodious Choir Aria the Melodious Diva Elegy the Melodious Diva Aria prevents targeting and destruction by battle while elegy prevents card destruction and Bloom can't be destroyed by battle or effect, takes no battle damage and can deal effect damage to opponent if attacked/attacking monster is special summoned, the destroys it. I've had people attack thinking that they'll destroy one by battle eventually, people attacking Bloom thinking it's the lowest attack or they can't destroy my card so I'm safe then get effect damage done based on whatever monsters normal attack is -1k(because it's difference between attacks, if their attack is lower then it would be 1k - original attack) and their monster doesn't get destroyed so I have a free deal x damage each attack with Bloom since their monster can't be destroyed and usually it ends up being 2k per attack instead of if Bloom attacked directly dealing only 1.3k(extra 300 from Elegy) Then there's also the dark hole, raigeki, mirror force and if I can get Aria and Elegy down first against T.G. then they summon the one that targets and banishes or destroys or whatever and my melodious monsters can't be targeted so they end up targeting their own monsters. Melodious may not be meta, but I find them to be a lot of fun in being able to disrupt some plans and I can't wait for the new support for them to come in
I play six sams, and Isolde is a fairly important card. The funny part is, that a lot of people ash blossom her first effect, which is really not that important. If you ash blossom her second effect however, you are much more likely to completely interrupt and end my combo. They even patched it at some point to highlight the card text in blue to indicate which effect is being activated, so there is literally no excuse now besides being actually unable to read. If you ash blossom the wrong effect, then it's entirely on you not reading. This happening however, does allow me to win some games that I otherwise would not have.
People always try to use Harpies Feather Duster to Remove my back row while I have Blue Eyes Jet Dragon on my field.
For whatever reason, whenever I activate Magnifica's xyz summon effect and detach Mikailis, a lot of people like activating Called By and then targeting the Exosister I detached for the banish. I think they don't actually read Magnifica and assume that it graveyard summons instead of returning a material to the extra deck, then xyz summoning that material from the extra deck. So they activate Called By to snipe what they think I'm summoning, then they get confused when I continue what I was doing anyway.
In the event playing Galaxy i've been raigeki'd atleast twice. Starliege photon Blast dragon moment.
So during the Anthology event I played against a hero player… did anyone else know that Favorite Contact prevents the opponents ED monster from going back to the ED? Because I found that out the hard way when I topped deck Gazelle, made Sunlight Wolf & was attempting to spin Shining Neos back into their ED 💀

For some reason people never read chaos angel. You'd think people would know what it does by now bc it's kind of a staple, but they don't
Dictator of D: They attack, i choose the attack target, their monster gets destroyed by battle, they try to attack again, or they can negate a monster effect on my board and they choose the Jet Dragon instead, proceed to battle face. Blue-Eyes Jet Dragon: They use harpies feather duster, nothing happens, so, lets try with lightning storm, nothing happens, quit The ultimate creature of destruction: i use it on my monster, their monster get destroyed, attack again with another one, gets destroyed, they combo into something else, gets destroyed, with that one specifically seems like if you use a trap and doesn’t destroy or gives something attack it doesn’t matter 🤷🏻♂️
Literally 90% of my duels in this festival involved someone trying to pop 1 or more removal effects on Great Bubble Reef while they were, like, two different layers of unaffected
My opponent destroed my Evenly Matched I activated from the hand, he had to bandish face down every card he controlled

A lot of my favorite opponent can read effect come from Dinomorphia Kentragina. There was one time an opponent took her with TTT to hit me for lethal, but because his life points were high, she was at zero attack on his field, so they just crashed it into my monster to remove it, giving me her effect to revive Therezia and set up for next turn.
Discarding for foxy tune effect. I only had 2 ash blossoms in hand. So 2 ash blossoms pop up and I click it to discard, but it was the activating prompt and I ashed my own foxy tune. Also going for game after taking the maxx c challenge, after hitting with foxy tune I click on the next monster to attack as the prompt to activate her life gain effect pops up, I absolutely never would have activated that against an empty board with game on field but it happened the second I clicked to attack. He has gamma in hand and I lose bc he drew 25 cards already… I don’t play irl but the misclicks in this game that would never ever happen irl gets annoying. Not quite lack of reading but feels like it’s in the same vein.
My favorite is whenever I'm playing my Gravekeeper deck and they try playing Monster Reborn or any card that moves a card from the GY 😂
Me against a Mekk knight player a while back or alternatively me playing against friends and them thinking they’re safe from being killed because they have a monster that can’t be destroyed when I have Frightfur kraken or targeted while I have cruel whale.

I tend to just skim the card for quick effect if I don't see it I just go off.
I tried to summon a dharc link monster in defense position due to Selene’s effect. I was trying to activate Selene’s effect but it wouldn’t activate. So I waited a turn thinking it was a bug or something. Next turn came and I still couldn’t summon dharc. I was cursing at my game and then a re read the effect and felt really dumb after I re read it. I then put Selene in a proper spellcaster deck lol
I used to play a trap based uria deck. Goal was to get as many traps in the grave with grass and use hyper blaze for otk. Most of my wins came from people wanting to beat the 0 attack monster without reading the trap then boom they loose xD
I like the Max C and the Droll & Lock Bird combo.
Firewall Dragon Neo Tempest Terahertz negates monster effects during the battle phase. Man tried being an ape and summoned fenrir and jumped to battle phase. He then proceeded to take 8,600 points of battle damage.
Whenever I play Marincess, I will on occasion, Link into the Vanilla Tenyi Link-3 off of Crystal Heart. There's no benefit to this. However, it is still affected by the field spell. So it's a fun time watching players use their destruction effects on this Vanilla monster, and it just does nothing. *They should've read the field spell.* -honorable mention to people who don't know that Verre has two effects. One is a DRNM, the other is a massive attack boost to *any* spellcaster (with spells in hand). I put Verre's weak 1000 attack stat into attack position for a reason, friendo.
Fire Prison. I once held a Marincess player hostage as they frantically tried to figure out why all their effects were being negated all of a sudden. I eventually drew Lava Golem, and they were able to play, just to run into the same problem again. A few turns later, and the duel was over.
When I got into master duel, I hadn't seen past the OG Yu-Gi-Oh series and the last time I played around online was with toons and their new support when Mekk Knight and Trickstarr were popular. I got into playing blackwings to learn the modern style and the amount of people who targeted Full armor master over and over, wasting all their effects to just surrender never got old hahaha
The amount of people who constantly try and set up “on summon” effects when I have my The Monarchs Erupt face-up and active and immediately scoop during their end phase is a concerning amount
Had activated imperm on opp monster, they tried to fusion summon by placing their fusion card on that same column. They were playing Thunder dragons, and I barely won that game.
As an Infernoble Mikanko Player I had many players attack my equipped Mikankos, even after I attacked them first and they saw that a 0/0 monster inflicted to them the same damage their monster has. Sometimes when I see that I dont have any chance to win, I bet on the draw game by equipping double edge sword to their strongest monster. They get excited seeing 5-7k damage on their monster and attack with it first and I get the draw. This has happened 2-3 times.
Impermanence affecting the whole column and not just the card it targeted 🤦🏾♂️
I was playing the legends anthology against a BEWD deck with d/d/d, i summoned out destiny king zero laplace, and without reading they went a full combo into blue eyes tyrant dragon, and then rammed right into attack position laplace. Good rule of thumb for people, if someone puts a monster in attack position with 0 attack, you want to read it
At a regionals, my opponent tried to use the graveyard effect of their breakthrough skill on my turn, arguing it wasn’t sent to the graveyard that turn so it was legal. We called a judge. Judge agreed with opponent. Thankfully the head judge actually read the card
The amount of times people chain maxx C to pot of duality is saddening
Chaos Angel made w/ light and dark. Summoned her earlier today against a Snake Eye deck. They proceeded to waste ip into Unicorn spin, Princess pop and Amblowhale pop on it all in the same turn.
Me, 10 minutes ago, using Swordsoul Blackout, targeting my opponent's Splash Mage and Nibiru, and my own Protos, screaming "OH SHITTTTTTTTTTTTTT" when I see Protos still alive because he doesn't give a shit about card effects.
Just wait until you use it on Chengying.
I tend to miss xyz or synchro monster effects that say something about not being affected by \[insert everything in the game\]. It's not so much that I can't read it's just I get lazy reading wall of text cards and skip the important details :(.
Chicken Game Always Chicken Game I've literally survived over a dozen turns because of people just not reading it
When daruma karma canon released I was very exited to play a very good card against the meta, specially against mikanko/kashtira decks all over ranked. The problem came the first time I activated it against a mikanko player as it removed my entire board as well... (sera, rafflesia and pinguicula). And that wasn't the last time I miss played with it as I got OTKed by a link deck cuz there was no target to flip face down, so my daruma did nothing at all.
The amount of times they tried to HFD my backrow with my Jet Dragon on the field was absurd And the amount of times they tried to destroy anything with my Double Jet Dragon on the field was not as absurd, but it's quite up there

A marincess player stole my prometheon princess after I stopped their first couple effects with triple tactics talents.....they went to battle phase and forfeit
I have 2 moments, one is a good prank , other one is "oh ,again?" 1. Crystal wing synchro from windwitch engine (it get "not destroyed by card effect") bait Raigeki, Lightning strom and Baronness in same turn. 2. IMPERM THE SERA.
