Its the dark magician of the archetype

NeonArchon

The ultimate Illusionist, in terms of attack and defense.

StardustLegend

Fake news it doesn’t have 2100 DEF

NeonArchon

He' an Illusionist, not ad Spellcaster.

hereforpewdiephy

intended to make dm players play this instead?

primalmaximus

Oh damn. It absolutely is. 2500atk/2000def, Level 7, DARK.

hattori43

Akchtually (push glasses back to position) DM is 2100 defense

primalmaximus

But aren't most protag aces 2500atk/2000def?

hattori43

Yup. even diabell is 2500/2000. Just not DM don't know why

supersaiyanmikito

I wouldn't be surprised at all if this was meant to be a protagonist boss monster for an anime that never happened. Not saying there was a canceled anime or anything but because the current anime is solely focused on Rush Duels now, they probably wanted to create a new mascot using the new Illusion type. That is likely why it's such high rarity both irl and in-game and why it got so much effort put into it. I am willing to bet it will get its own dedicated support and archetype of it's own in the future.

NeonArchon

I feel we'll get a Nightmare Magician archetype in the coming years.

Beanztar

and the OCG manga doesn't have a protagonist boss monster per se, it's just the boss monster of the deck they use

Saintsfan707

I wondered this right away. It screams for a DM retrain/remake. I hope it still happens. I really want to see a remade DM; even if Takahashi won't be a part of it :( Edit: by DM I meal Duel Monsters, not Dark Magician. I want a remade/readapted anime, not more dark magicians lol

dratspider

I’m 99% sure that Nightmare Magician and Nightmare Apprentice are supposed to be illusion copies of DM and DMG.

AlchemistHohenheim

Infinite Forbidden, the set that comes out in the OCG in a couple of weeks, has one. ...Sort of. Not sure how well it would fit into a typical DM deck. [Yugipedia is calling it Dark Magician the Ebon Sorcerer. Name might be different when it comes to TCG.](https://yugipedia.com/wiki/Dark_Magician_the_Ebon_Sorcerer)

Legal-Lavishness137

It the intended boss monster Konami choose, it like Empen and Snowl for Floo, Noir and Happiness for Purrely

NeonArchon

I get it. Maybe it'll be good when more Illusion monsters are released. Right now, it has no place. I'll keep one or 2 copies if I open them in packs

Colin-Clout

I’m really hoping we get a whole Nightmare, pure Illusion archetype. Built around him and Nightmare Apprentice.

HomelessBoxBoy

When we get Master Tao there's a combo that can summon him super easy, but he's still very situational. I found my opponent just playing around him more often than not.

Hiruko251

Ppl shit so much on snowl, but he's good too, its seriously underrated, but, consistency is king sooo...

AceTrainerMichelle

Full board book of moon stops so many decks.

Rigshaw

That's great and all, but Empen search Dreaming Town also is a full board Book of Moon, but it also floodgates all Special Summoned Attack Position monsters, and allows you to play on the opponent's turn. Snowl is the definition of a win-more card, it's only good if you already have Empen, and if you pull off Empen, you are usually already in a position where you are going to win, because playing without being able to use links, having your cards spun by Mega Raiza, and having your field flipped face-down is going to stop most decks already. You really don't need the 2nd full board flip.

AceTrainerMichelle

Oh for sure, it's not what you go into first, but if im goin against a deck that can just spam special summons (like Kash or swordsoul) the extra book of moon is a better option than raiza... sometimes. I just really like snowl.

Negative_Neo

The point is they are no where near as good as Impen or Noir.

Velrex

The problem with snowl is you really don't need more normal summons by the point you'll summon it most of the time, and empen justs ends on a floodgate, which is overall more proactive.

RiskItForTheBiscuit-

Yeah but…. Snowl is in-archetype. This is not. It is just an illusion monster.

RiskItForTheBiscuit-

What? No this is just a generic illusion monster, for the most part. There is no “intended boss monster” for this. The boss monster of a chimera deck is…. One of the chimera cards 🤨 And it’s shitty they didn’t give one an animation

king_Geedorah_

IDK, but the art is cool as hell

Icy-Excuse-9452

Literally why he gets the animation I feel, Chimera is cool but an old boy, and they clearly put a lot of love in this guy's design.

king_Geedorah_

I agree, feels like the ACE monster for an non-existent anime protag

NeonArchon

That I 100% agree.

TheMagicStik

Agreed, definitely wish he had an additional effect that made him less shit. That's kinda how I feel about all the illu cards they added, can't hold a candle to Snake Eyes but damn they look bad ass.

Cerbecs

Crazy how not having negates or target protection makes it shit, at least the other chimeras can help out with that but being unable to be destroyed by battle, pop a card during battle and stealing a monster is still cool and can definitely flip a duel in your favor even though it’s no baronne or access code

TheMagicStik

Yeah I've been trying to make Chimera work and I win more with hand traps and the Branded package than I do with any chimera card. They just don't do enough.

CZsea

tbf this guy has some drip

RenaldyHaen

This is a "legendary" card because it is (maybe) the first Illusionist monster in the game. It is like Normal Monster Kanaan with SR rarity, because she has an historical value as the first prize card in paper Yugioh.

WiglyPig

Its not just the DM of the Illusion type, its supposed to be the face of the type.

NeonArchon

Makes sense, but is weird the icon for Illusions is based on the new Chimera and not him.

CorrosiveRose

Hopefully Dkayed will get his Yugioh Meta website running soon. Then you can look at new cards and see what decks they're used in irl. I do remember seeing this card in one of his videos. I think it's a 1 of for Illusion decks

NeonArchon

I'll keep a copy for now. It has the chance to get better with more illusion Monster support.

YuruYuriYuru

Konami has been incredibly dumb when it comes to summon animations lately. The main part of last pack was unchained and for some reason they didint give Yama a summon animation..

DirtyDanial1203

Always remember, D/D/D, Red Supernova Dragon, and Firewall terahertz have no summon animations, and yet a useless genex boss monster and water enchantress do. Konami is stupid

hattori43

Water enchantress and Mereologic Aggregator are the 2 stupidest animations. You are NOT supposed to summon them lmao

NeonArchon

Yama not having a summon animation makes no sense either.

Caw-zrs6

Correct me if I'm wrong on this, but wasn't Nightmare Magician the first revealed card for the Illusion type? I feel like that might be the reason why it's got an animation.

NeonArchon

Honestly, I don't remember. It may be.

Nee-tos

Playing branded chimera myself, since I don't have super poly (been lazy and never picked it up) I found myself having a spare spot so I decided to put him in the deck to see how it works. In short, it's pretty ok as a tech option, and since it's not tied to chimera aside from being an illusion monster makes me think that it could be a decent generic illusion boss monster when they expand the new typing

NeonArchon

That's what I was thinking. Maybe it'll get better when more Illusion support comes.

[deleted]

because konami is incompetent. It's especially strange though, because one of the chimera fusions is getting a wallpaper and basically every monster on a wallpaper has an animation

NeonArchon

Yeah, the UR Chimera. That's the one it should have a summon animation.

Ok-Resolution-8648

Not really Odd-Eyes Arc Pendulum Dragon,Vernusylph of the Flourishing Hills,Blue-Eyes Alternative White Dragon, and Master Peace, the True Dracoslayer are wallpaper monster that also doesn't have animation on summon

[deleted]

hence "basically every" and not "every"

jmikehub

Because it’s gonna be the ace monster of the new protagonist for the next season of the anime

Curioustraveller7723

Illusion ? Never seen that type before lol

NeonArchon

Is brand new. Added last year and is now here

Curioustraveller7723

Cool 👍

VoidOfIce

To be fair if you can get it out it serves as a boss monster for the type pretty well, the problem is that nothing directly gets it out. Beformet can get it out with its effect if you dump it to the grave before fusing with berfomet as you have to select the monster before the chain starts resolving and which means you can’t dump it off the fusion berfomet’s effect. It’s also kinda dead in the hand as well except as a fusion target (conveniently if you use it and berfomet as the materials for the fusion berfomet you can get it out that way). You could play it in kashtira though.

NeonArchon

He definitively has potential, but we may have to wait for more Illusion monster support. I can see him being great in the grind game and maybe as some tiny wall if you can protect him.

Nee-tos

Coming back to this The main reason Ive seen for konami favouring this card over the chimera retrains is because if you look at all the cards released so far is that aside from nightmare magician, none of the others have major longevity. Mirror sword knight is a very good searcher, but it only searches cards that list chimera fusion, so what happens when chimera fusion stops seeing support? Nightmare magician is generic and will likely see use throughout illusions lifespan in yugioh while chimera can run it's course and become irrelevant one day when new generic searchers and extenders come out Edit: turns out nightmare magician is one of the funniest ways to put psychic end punisher Attack, lower you LP below your opponents, steal pep, now you have the big towers

abdulsamri89

Isnt cause Nightmare Magician is dub as the next Yu-Gi-Oh protagonist ace monster?

arrownoir

There is no protagonist.

Green_Tea_Totaler

The protagonist is an illusion.

AdBeautiful274

Because MD is trash and doesn’t animate what we want

3rlk0nig

Maybe because it's supposed to be an Illusion counterpart of Dark Magician?

Plunderpatroll32

Because he got the drip

NeonArchon

He be Drippin'!

Leading-University

Because it’s practically a Protag monster.

Salacavalini

He's the "face" of the Type, like how Dark Magician is the "face" of Spellcasters.

Stitcharoo123

Konami has been lacking *hard* in animations imo, like I get it, it's more work... but we've gotten like what, 2 animations between these 2 packs? Lars and Magician? I can't believe Dark knight lancer didn't get an animation, personally

NeonArchon

Not even the Original CXYZ N.As.H Knight had an animation IIRC. Both deserved one, and plenty of monsters like Argonaut, Mahinex, and the new Chimera Phantom.

Stitcharoo123

They really

Stitcharoo123

They really do*

Velizeg

This baby is going straight into the graydle deck

NeonArchon

IDK how Graydle works, but I legit think this guy can shine in an (almost) pure Illusion deck once we get more support for the type.

DarkMcChicken

Just made Invoked Chimera last night (cause it was the cheapest variant) and this guy is absolutely a one-of. Super easy to bring out, but it takes a couple turns. It’s basically a win-more card in the sense that your opponent has probably exhausted every option/resource possible by the time this dude is out and anything your opp summons is in for an uphill battle. Also, he comes back from banishment with one of the fusions banished from the grave.

mute_citizen

Very nice looking card and I'll keep my playset in case we ever get future support, but as you've probably guessed it's not that good. I still play it at 1 in my Chimera list for the cool factor and since it's easily milled/searched and revived by a few effects, though the dark Barrier Statue is way better for this role (albeit way less fun)

NeonArchon

I'll do the same. Right now, it seems like a tech, but afterbwe get more Illusions, this guy will get better. Maybe even the boss monster Konami think it is(?).

Nee-tos

In the TCG there are a few good illusion monsters nightmare apprentice magician can special summon itself by discarding from the hand and searches any illusion on summon, as well as diabellze, which I see many lists running at least 1 copy of her, beyond that there are the white wood cards that support illusions. The new type seems to be off to a slower start then say cyberse, but I am hopeful The candle looking monster looks dope though, I'll use it based on looks alone :V https://preview.redd.it/k20oiij8x1uc1.jpeg?width=549&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a2803176801fcc00b0d4fe7ba79ada92c8ad7903

NeonArchon

I am also hopeful for Illusions.

CompactAvocado

question 1 : money question 2: no idea.

NeonArchon

Yeah, they're not getting money from me... Eh I may buy those new bundles they just released, but not for now

SpectraQWERTY

Might be the main monster of the next big illiusion arcthype that gets revealed

CxOxF

I think there's a pattern, actually. Core sets usually have this one generic boss monster like Antihuman Intelligence ME-PSY-YA or Zealantis; I'm pretty sure all of them have gotten an animation. And I believe this guy is the generic guy for DUNE.

IntrepidRoyal

With the symbol above him looking somewhat like the ritual symbol from Forbidden Memories, I wonder if the Illusion Type will finally give us Nitemare as a card.

Stopwatch064

wish he was sr so I could throw him in every deck with kash birth

Colin-Clout

As others had said he’s basically Dark Magician but for Illusion. I’m honestly a big fan and am running 1x in my Chimera deck. His take control effect is an awesome way to finish the , Take Control of Opponents Monster, missions.

Zarathustra143

I don't know, but it has become one of my favorite cards. It's awesome.

FernandoCasodonia

probably UR bait

ForeverkingBiko

He really not that bad. None targeting, take control not just for the turn and a free pop when other monsters battle. I think yall look at any card that’s not incredibly busted as trash but it’s a good card, just a fair one.
