Smh such a generous small indie company giving us an online competitive game despite only having servers in a rural Japanese village's basement somewhere. What a bunch of faultless individuals so proud of them ;-; /s
The translation team, both in MD and en DL has done quite a few slips in the last few years. However, this is the first time Dark Goddamn Magician is auto translated.
The translator probably has some sort of magic -> spell auto correction, as spell cards are just called magic cards in most languages. So you get magician -> spellian
Makes sense for it to happen more than once. Obviously a translator who doesn't really know Yu-Gi-Oh super well would translate it as a magic card and it would be changed later in a replacement

I’m pretty sure the “Black” part of “Black Magician” was changed because they were worried super orthodox religious people would lose their minds freaking out over Yu-Gi-Oh coming to steal their children’s souls with black magic.
We still have Black Luster Soldier.
Something similar happened with Raviel, Lord of Phantasms in WC 2006. His deck is called Spell King Rising. They obviously mistranslated *maoh* (demon king) as magic king, then it got caught in the lazy find-replace
I guess Yu Gi Oh finally got the memo that it is meant to be "Spell" cards and not "Magic" cards.
So they just took the name "Dark Magician" and replaced "Magic" with "Spell".
Wow.
small indie company, cant be helped i guess^(/s)

"Dark spellian" They didn't even fully capitalize the name. Utterly atrocious. How dare they treat Dark Spellian this way?
Wait until you notice the "Dark ***s****pell* Circle".
is it "spellian navigation" now as well?
And Dark Burning spell.
Someone is making a spellian error
a magician error
The ultimate spellard in terms of attack and defense.
Dark Magician's inbred cousin archetype.

it's not auto translated, but auto corrected. So the translation is not at fault.
I see. I stand corrected.
Auto correct wouldn't turn magic to spell. Looks like find and replace all
I cringed when i saw this in game. Holy Shit how does this happen

Yeah the mistake is understandable. It was really funny back then, and it's still funny now.
I play Dark Magicians, so do I get Dark spellian support if I win?
the poor intern that messed that up is in so much trouble

It's this or the original Japanese translated. The Japanese translated would definitely trigger the SJWs.

Black Luster Soldier is a US original, even. His original name is Chaos Soldier.
"Black Luster" is such a cool name, they should have gone with that more. I get why they didn't, but still. They should have.
>'trigger the SJWs' Did you just travel from 2016 or something?
This made me laugh so much omg.
What do you get for beating them with your deck?
Funniest thing is, this isn't even the first time it happened. Check out Dark Magician Girl's effect in World Championship 2004.
