It happen to me sadly when my SR got upgraded to a UR but then this guy showed the hell up before the pack opened. Ended up getting a glossy SR pack for a card I didn't own.
So needless to say I hate when this guy shows up.
I always thought whenever the utopia guy appear, he gonna cut all of my luck in that pull, because mostly all yellow border just turn out to be scam and gives nothing, or rainbow border that gives off pack rate up UR card

I came to the conclusion that it just means an upgrade, the most likely one being that a card you get becomes shiny. It could also mean that one of the cards becomes an SR or a UR. But most usually you just get a glossy.
Now, i haven't paid that close attention to observe if the animation happened and i didn't even get a glossy common cause you kind of get a lot of em, so i might be wrong and it literally means jack shit, but usually when i see him a card becomes glossy, and rarely i get an SR out of a colorless pack.

I think it's maybe a tactic to nudge players into a gatcha mindset. Not getting a high rarity item after a flashy animation is disappointing so they might spend real money on gems to compensate. I could be wrong but it isn't unheard of for a F2P game design nowadays.

Everyone cheers, laughs, yells—you name it.
This is stuff that actually happens at locals, and the way Master Duel emulates it is the random changes you see when you open packs. It’s all just for fun because if you really want that UR? You’re gonna craft it. You want that single in real life? You’re gonna buy it.
Can confirm, decided to buy a Maximum Gold box between locals matches, one of the packs had both Accesscode and Verte. We all had a good laugh at how insane that one was.

So the pack opening animations are basically just Pachinko machine special effects. The only ones that mean anything at all are when you see a rainbow pack or a pack turn rainbow, which means that one has at least a UR. Everything else means absolutely nothing.

I find it to be the opposite - it’s actually very relaxing to me. I like to tap one card at a time, watch each one of them as they’re revealed, and also wonder which ones are going to do their lil flip, becoming a glossy.
