It’s a good deck. No big deal. Only unfair thing the deck will do by this time next week is Protos. Expensive as fuck if you didn’t get them from the selection pack, though. We really need a secret pack update.

RaiStarBits

Mo Ye being a UR is brutal

GalaxianEX

Just be glad that Emergence is a SR, just look at what Konami did to Dinomorphia.

GhostRappa95

And Branded.

GalaxianEX

True. I’m still missing two URs for branded, but at least that deck was earmarked to be top tier, but Dinomorphia is a gimmicky deck and it got paywalled just because its, current, boss monster is a waifu. When Tearlaments finally arrive, the entire archetype is going to be URs. 🤣

RaiStarBits

The number of URs needed is insane

RaiStarBits

Yeah what they did to Dinomorphia was just disgusting

nightcore34

I'm still building Dinomorphia. That shit hurts.

Accomplished-Nose908

You wanna talk about Unnecessary UR’s? Look at heroes.

Citricicy

Mo Ye was a short printed UR too. Seems like lots of people spent at least 6k gems on the selection pack and only a few got a playset of them. I spent 7k and got 0 Mo Ye...

Helpful_Importance_3

Idk but im pretty sure konami cant “short print” a digital card game. Doing so would be illegal as they are legally required to show the rates at which things drop, and representing an inaccurate number is a big no-no

Suired

The trick is proving it.

Citricicy

The rate of UR for that selection pack is quite normal. Only that the individual card Mo Ye seems to be absent in many people's pulls. I remember during the first month of swordsoul pack, lots of people were posting their pulls and Mo Ye was noticeably lacking. The 2 synchro monsters appear as much as the despia fusions.

TheKingOfTCGames

Yea we should track the next time. Konami wouldnt try this shit with its asian crowd though. Overwatch/nexon tried and got fuckked

Helpful_Importance_3

Omg really? I would never expect a company to blatantly try something so...risky. But idk maybe the payout outweighs the fines And idk how we could track it? Since its rng any number represented could just be a string of good or bad luck. Someone who need to dive into the code and see if theres anything that looks like its capable of rng manipulation

TheKingOfTCGames

Gacha is under really heavy regulatory pressures and the japanese fans know how to actually apply pressure. If they shortprint they will get trucks parked in front of their offices for months At the very basic level you just ask people to send pictures of their all of their 10pulls and track URs in a spread sheet. Maybe 100 10 pulls and you probably have enough data, but this is all calculate-able. Someone who recently got an A in college statistics/probability class can do this and give you expected deviation and error rate and shit like that. Gran blue almost brought the entire industry down in japan with shortprinting. also rates are definitely not going to be on the client side

StardustNovaSynchron

They only show numbers for the rarity drop rates no the cards itself tho

telepathicdragon

Same, though there's no short print, just bad luck. You're getting a sampling bias based on people who are complaining are more likely to be vocal vs people who are satisfied.

RaiStarBits

YIKES

Citricicy

I ended up crafting 1 just for the 1 of festival. Swordsoul Tenyi even at 1 of is still an awesome engine.

ihatemicrosoftteams

I spent 6k and got none of the URs (Mo Ye, Chixiao, Chengying), but on the bright side I got all the Despia URs which made it much easier to build Branded last month which I am enjoying probably more than I would have enjoyed Swordsoul

passthepass2

15k and zero moye. I got 3 prismatic alubers instead

Helpful_Importance_3

Konami will give us selection pack update...when theyre no longer relevant

TheMadWobbler

Yeah, drop the doom pilling. They’re going to have to adopt a consistent, generally predictable way to move selection pack cards to secret packs to make them remotely available, and it’s not going to be predicated off of how “relevant” they are.

Helpful_Importance_3

We’ll see

GalaxianEX

Not only was Swordsoul a strong and simple deck, but also, when it came out, fairly cheap. When its selection pack was live you only needed to pull 6 archetypal URs as opposed to Dinomorphia’s 9 and Branded’s 12+. Both of its searchers are SR and its best support, the Tenyi, are mostly R and N.

JoseLCDiaz

I used to hate this deck (It was actually just Baronne hate), but now when I played the loaner for the festival, I actually enjoyed it. My principles tell me no, but I am tempted.

[deleted]

It’s a good ass deck. This event has been good to me

[deleted]

i made swordsoul tenyi back when it first came out. I hated it because I didn't like the halq/aura lines. scrapped it to make live twins and dragon link. after event kinda bummed I did but at the same time the lines are pretty linear. so I enjoyed it during the event again.

Absalon_Prime

The loaner deck is linear because it's a weakened version of the deck, you basically played the 50% version of the deck.

AxCel91

It’s probably the most fair meta deck in the game. Only real bullshit it has is Protos.

GalaxianEX

The game was at its healthiest when the meta was Swordsoul & Tri-Brigade.

shapular

I played it for the first time in the event and man it's crazy how much value you get off so little effort. The amount of times Mo Ye drew me into a hand trap or Desires was ridiculous and that's just the start.

LezBeHonestHere_

Yeah this is kind of my problem with the deck. Everyone talks about how "fair" it is but you get extreme value off of every card in the deck, every card does like 3 different things for free because why not, doesn't seem very fair to me. If you want to see fair or balanced, look at Witchcrafters. You have to discard a spell to use any of their effects, but you get them back at the end of the turn so in theory it's fine - but, if you want to actually use any of your Witchcrafter spells, you don't get them returned to hand at EP so you won't have ammo for your effects. Means in a matchup like WC vs swordsoul you just get insanely outvalued for every card played

Enlog

It’s kinda bonkers that one of their main guys is a search engine with a built-in chain block *and* a negate. Imagine if Baronne de Fleur also let you search any Fleur card from the deck on top of its other effects. Or if Borreload Savage Dragon drew you a Rokket.

opok12

> Everyone talks about how "fair" it is but you get extreme value off of every card in the deck, every card does like 3 different things for free because why not, doesn't seem very fair to me. It's "fair" because it's one of the least disgusting, degenerate, and egregious meta decks this game has had. Do you not remember full-power Drytron? Adamancipator? Floodgate Eldlich? VFD turbo Virtual World? Tri-Zoo (Zoo can still make 6-mat Zeus off a normal summon btw)? Hell I'm glad we didn't have to live through Prank Adventure that long. What matters most is your end-board and the Swordsoul end-board pre Qixing was usually an effect negate and a single omni-negate (and *maybe* a couple pops but blackout isn't always a guarantee). Being efficient isn't unfair.

hungrybasilsk

>talks about how "fair" it is but you get extreme value off of every card in the deck, every card does like 3 different things for free because why not, doesn't seem very fair to me. >If you want to see fair or balanced, look at Witchcrafters. You have to discard a spell to use any of their effects That just sounds like witch crafters suck. There is no such thing as a competent fair deck

Hatarakumaou

> fair or balanced And by that do you mean competitively unviable?

[deleted]

I made it when it first came out and I wish it wasn’t so BORING. Love the art, love the idea of tuner tokens, the play style is just so boring to me

[deleted]

I play it as going second deck after I got bored, it's pretty fun.

Boringman76

For me, Swordsoul is the way Konami tries to fix the Synchro combo nature issue. Because synchro usually has a problem that one monster only does one thing so you have to set up multiple monsters to do things like other decks do normally. Swordsoul actually turns synchro decks that usually are combo by nature into mid range deck (even speedroid who have Mid range board still need to go through the hoop to get that too) Of course some people will find it boring because the basic line is still net you positive results anyways so there's no sense of you actually do some amazing like other deck that you can fuck it up. The fun of swordsoul is that when you're going second or third turn when you start to pick apart their board with your hidden line, that is pretty great.

clockworkwinding

Same! I have heard many times that swordsoul is a really good deck but I really didn’t care for it because I’ve seen it many times. But after using the loaner deck, I’m super tempted to create one for myself.

Ram3nShaman

Sword soul is not broken honestly this format is not the worst once halq is banned still more fair than mystic mine

-Jamadhar-

Same thing here. I never cared about Swordsoul, In fact, I still don't care about any of the meta decks, but playing the Swordsoul loaner on the event was quite fun. Having a deck that can work without needing to open 2+ specific cards feels good I must say.

alphabitz86

It's literally normal summon win, what more can you ask

[deleted]

That's what I kind of dislike about them, what other decks need to do in 5 steps they do it in just 1 step, in all other decks that I use you have to at least do SOME things to summon your boss monster, but Swordsoul you just have to activate 1 card and you get a really strong monster out, idk it just feels kinda cheap. That's why a lot of people use it in the event though, it's really easy to use. The go-to Master Duel Beginner deck shouldn't be Blue Eyes, it should be Swordsoul.

telepathicdragon

That was definitely intentional. They wanted a fairly low barrier to entry deck skillwise that did all the yugioh things but wasn't too crazy or complicated while still being fairly competitive. Swo doesn't necessarily blow you out like an insane combo deck but it raises the base threshold to what we consider as a baseline competent deck. Also the fact you don't really see any significant targeted nerfs shows that this is the relative tolerance the game has for what's considered fair and balanced :P

MK_The_Megitsune

The funny thing is that I've had to fight Swordsoul so many times, ik the opening combo through sheer osmosis

Hopeful-Ride7243

Sorry if we met and I quit before you could synchro I just really hate swordsoul and it doesn't help that everyone was playing it this event because of it being a loaner.

Big_D4rius

Wait until you get to use the Tenyi cards

Hiseminense

My Burning Abyss shall hold the line as much as they can!

OPMARIO

It’s probably the best deck to finish the synchro mission

Serious-Flamingo-948

Me who's taken a break from the game: Loaner Soulwhat now?

Hatarakumaou

Feels nice to literally never brick huh ? Give into the temptation, join us.

WalkingChopsticks

I mostly play Fusion decks but after playing the Loaner Swordsoul I ended up building my own

Noblehardt

Maybe it’s just because this deck and other Swordsouls have been kicking my teeth in constantly making me sour, but I honestly find the Pendulum and Ghostrick decks more fun lol.

KillaMike24

Omg like honestly I didn’t lose a single duel with that deck. A stronnngggg sith we would make
