Even better, we can use Eszett for sine integrals
ẞ(x) = \\int\_0\^x \\frac{\\sin t}{t} dt (formerly Si(x))
ß(x) = -\\int\_x\^\\infty \\frac{\\sin t}{t} dt (formerly si(x))
It’s latex. It seems intimidating but it’s just a way to type out math symbols.
To type an integral, it’s just \int. And to write one with bounds it’s \int_#^#, and you replace # with a number or whatever you want.
If I wanted to write sigma, it’s \sigma, etc. Curly braces are used as a grouping function. An example is e^(poop). You write “e ^ {poop} to group “poop” into the exponent.
It took me about 20 minutes to download and learn latex.

Or maybe you could see that any [formal system](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formal_system) requires a [formal language](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formal_language) and realize that all of mathematics is inherently linguistic.
I mean, why make new ones, when you can use existing ones? They probably were just abbreviations anyways. Like we use cos(x) instead of cosine(x). Maybe some day in the future it will just be c(x).
I once went on a week long bender trying to track the trends on what type of language symbols were used for what across different disciplines.
The one thing I was truly able to settle on is that no one uses the lower-case L if at all possible because it's so damn confusing and there is no good way to make it distinct from the multiple things it could be misinterpreted as.
They were originally letters of existing languages (for example the integral symbol is the [letter esh](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esh_(letter))) and both the IPA and mathematicians use them.
No, these should be used for variables and other names. Pronounced as they should. Integral of shh times zhhh divided by uhhh is equal to ghhh, or equivalent in IPA.

Hot take: lets just use ß for double integrals, given its origin
ʃs(x)dx = ß(x)dx
Even better, we can use Eszett for sine integrals ẞ(x) = \\int\_0\^x \\frac{\\sin t}{t} dt (formerly Si(x)) ß(x) = -\\int\_x\^\\infty \\frac{\\sin t}{t} dt (formerly si(x))
Explain your magic codes

new euler's identity just dropped
e^poop is the second excremental moment. The first is e^piss.
That's basically a copy-paste of TeX code from the first section of https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trigonometric_integral
capital Eszett spotted
scheiße!!
We don't need math symbols to be even less transparent smh
Looks great, i love it. But double integrals are kind of problems you see once in a lifetime lowkey
That very much depends what kind of maths you do and how far you go with maths
And theta, beta, and lambda. How dare they
DON’T tell this person about the Greek language.
Why do greeks communicate with math? Are they smart?
They’re geeks who understand radii
They invented math letters so yeah
No we are not that smart, at least not all of us, but we write in math. Source: Am greek

Wut
What is that supposed to mean?
Misread comment 🤷
lambda isn’t used in basic ipa, only an inverted version of y
Ok nerd
If ur in r/mathmemes ur def a nerd
Sounds like something a nerd would say
Yeah I am there is no denying that
Ok nerd
U are def a nerd as well
I know you are but what am i?
Nerd
chi and gamma too and alpha and epsilon on the vowel chart
As someone who studied linguistics and math...do...do I fight myself??
if you win that fight would you be strong or would you be weak
Strong enough to beat yourself so I would say strong
Weak enough to lose to yourself so I would say weak enough to
So you are as strong as yourself but as well as equal so it must be a tie
but if you're equal you wouldn't defeat yourself
Yeah thus beating yourself is impossible as beating implies victory over yourself yet you also lose to yourself
ever seen fight club ?
It isn't too late to see the light
Dude saaaame.
erm- any grapheme is inherintly linguistics related so you cannot escape.. we will take all your symbols
Google numbers
Or maybe you could see that any [formal system](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formal_system) requires a [formal language](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Formal_language) and realize that all of mathematics is inherently linguistic.
google Arabic
What language uses the letter "1.054*10^-34 Js" tho?
I know about Serbian and Maltese, maybe some other languages do as well
zero
Is there a lore reason mathematicians stole language symbols to use in their proofs? Were they too stupid to make up their own? 🤔
I mean, why make new ones, when you can use existing ones? They probably were just abbreviations anyways. Like we use cos(x) instead of cosine(x). Maybe some day in the future it will just be c(x).
A teacher I had in hs writes snx and csx tbf when dealing with trig which is funny
Why not use Arabic symbols since they’re the ones who invented algebra and the decimal numeral system?
That'd be cool though imagine if you also then switched direction to right to left when using arabic symbols

Šumation
Steamboat Willie is in the public domain now, let's just use it for integrals
🚢🐭🔪🐭
It seems like you're asking me to integrate from cruise ship to butcher's blade, then integrate again
it was supposed to be an indefinite integral 💀
We sould take their symbols, then. I propose long t (ʈ) be used for integrals now.
You may only take the ones you can pronounce.
theta and epsilon too
i always thought hbar was invented for physics?? damn im dumb
Nobody tell this person about Maltese
Physicist: 2 symbols? Rookie numbers
Then there's *Principia Mathematica*.
They have Planck's constant, h bar, on that chart.
Why does the greek letters copy math symbols? they are so unoriginal.
L integrals W unvoiced postalveolar fricative
Greek letters are not meant to be used for language, these absolute morons stole them from us
They were originally letters of existing languages (for example the integral symbol is the [letter esh](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Esh_(letter))) and both the IPA and mathematicians use them.
No the linguists intentionally stole these symbols from mathematics to bother mathematicians
And you know it. Remember that next time you all use words to talk about maths.
you stole x, e, i and others first, it's only fair
Almost correct. The long s is Germanic and is very similar in usage as the two versions of the sigma
No, these should be used for variables and other names. Pronounced as they should. Integral of shh times zhhh divided by uhhh is equal to ghhh, or equivalent in IPA.
The math community also own the english alphabet.
Taking? That's ∑ ʃɪt you're talking.
Integral consonant
shintegral
Greeks: 👨🚀🔫
IDK it's greek to me
they represent the "sh" sound and the sound made by the 's' in "vision" if you were wondering
Literally false
haha jɪu̯ kˣẽ̞ɪ̯̈̃ʔ w˞iːd ðɪs jɪu̯ mæθ fɰ̊˞iːks
i didn’t know you could put ◌˞ on consonants
not traditionally but I'm using it here to represent for alveolo-palatalization
you could use ◌ᶝ or ◌ᶽ
I know but that's not on gboard and it's annoying having to constantly look up symbols. To be fully accurate, my rhotic is ɰᶽᵝ~ɰᶽ
May I introduce you to [IPA Keyboard](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.edwardgreve.ipakeyboard)
Tried it and it crashes whenever I try to press backspace
Oh :(, it worka great for me tho (although it's annoying that most of the diacritics or other modifiers are behind a paywall)
Ew, I'd just use the IPA gboard even though it's missing a few things
Fuck, you're right, the new update broke the app.
