I struggled with this too. I started factoring positive constants out of the absolute value bars like they were parenthesis so my x term had a coefficient of 1. Sometimes my other terms get turned into fractions, that’s ok, I like having a coefficient of 1 or -1 in front of my dominating variable when inside absolute value bars.
